Growing up in a family of firefighters was never easy for Soojin, her grandfather had died when her father was still a teenager and her father had become a firefighter to honor him, her childhood was marked by her father's absence, as much as Mrs Seo did everything for her she missed her father a lot and Soojin grew up with the fear that her father would not come home one day, because that happened a lot. Being a firefighter's daughter meant spending a lot of time at the fire station and for that reason Mr Seo's co-workers ended up becoming a second family to her, Soojin grew up surrounded by those men and women and every accident, every fatality was painful for her, every time Mr Seo was late Soojin became anxious, waiting for the phone to ring or someone knocking on their door and telling them that something bad had happened.

Despite all the close calls and hospitals stays Mr Seo always came home with a tired smile and a rescue story to tell, Soojin was proud of him but she'd be lying if she said she never imagined what her life would be like if her dad wasn't a firefighter. She loved her father and the fire station family but loving a firefighter could be very difficult and tiring, that's why she promises herself that she will never get involved with a firefighter

Soojin and her mother parked the car and headed towards the fire station with several bowls and bags in their arms, it was Lieutenant Kim's birthday, Captain Seo's right hand man, and the fire station had a tradition of having a big barbecue on birthdays, Soojin used to help her mother with the preparations but she was really busy with work and hadn't had time to attend birthdays

A tall, bald man came out of one of the rooms and went towards Soojin and her mother.

-Uncle Kim, happy birthday

Soojin opened her arms to hug him but the man fixed his gaze on one of the bowls she was carrying.

-Did you bring it?

Soojin chucked seeing his childish face

-There's nothing here for you

Soojin smirked and he whinned

-Daeun nonna she is being mean again

-Kim Himchan you're a 50 year old man, act like one

Soojin smirked at him but uncovered the bowl showing the fireman the fish-shaped bread

-My Bungeoppang 

He grabbed a  bread and ran away before Mrs Seo could scold him.

They entered the fire station, greeting all the firefighters and employees they encountered.

-Captain, the girls are here

One of the firefighters screamed and Captain Seo appeared through a door with a wide grin

-You two arrived just in time, Soojin why don't you take those into the kitchen? The rookies will help with the dirty job while your mother helps me at the grill

Mr Seo asks Soojin and she goes to the kitchen with some bowls, as soon as she enters the kitchen she is startled to see one of the prettiest woman she had ever laid eyes on, a tall woman with shinning brown eyes, curly hair tied in a bun,  she smiles at Soojin while bowing with the other rookie

-Hello, my name is Seo Soojin, I brought kimchi and the ingredients for the side dishes

The woman gave her a shy smile and immediately took the things out of her hand along with the other rookie

-Thank you Miss Seo

Damn she has a beautiful voice, who the hell is she?

-That's Yeh Shuhua, our new recruit, graduated top of her class and every station wanted her

Lieutenant Kim said while chewing a gum

-And she chose you guys?

-Hey, we are cool alright

Soojin showed him the tongue and he smiled

-She is beautiful, isn't ?

Lieutenant Kim wiggle his eyebrows and Soojin rolled her eyes

-Don´t let your wife hears that uncle 

-I'm mad at her, she'd rather travel with her mom than spend my birthday with me

-Maybe if you didn't fight so much with your mother-in-law

-She is a nightmare

A fireman called Lieutenant Kim and he left the kitchen leaving Soojin with the rookies who approached her

-Miss Seo, we are here to help you

 Soojin smirked at them and started giving instructions, Jung Wooseok, the other rookie, started chopping the onions and cucumbers while Soojin made the ssamjang and Shuhua the pickled carrots and daikon radishes. While the three of them were cooking Soojin learned that Shuhua is fresh out of academy and a year younger than her, her family is Taiwanese and she decided to become a firefighter after she was saved from a fire when she was a child, despite not speaking much Wooseok let slip that Captain Seo seemed to like Shuhua a lot, which didn't surprise Soojin, in those few hours she spent with Shuhua she was impressed, she was an extremely talkative and fun person with an interesting sense of humor, Shuhua also seemed very interested in Soojin's life, asking about the school she works and her students, paying attention to everything Soojin said. Despite her strong appearance and the defined muscles in her arms, Shuhua looked like a child as she watched Soojin cook, they spent a nice morning together and when it was all done they joined the rest of the team around the grill and continued talking.

Wooseok wasn't lying when he said that Mr Seo liked Shuhua, despite all the jokes they made with the rookies Mr Seo looked at Shuhua with almost a proud face, her nickname was boss baby since she was the youngest but she fit well in that team, Shuhua had become friends especially with Miyeon and Soyeon, the station old rookies, and along with Soojin they spent the rest of the afternoon talking and joking. When it finally got dark the off-duty firefighters went home and Shuhua helped Soojin wash the dishes while Wooseok helped with the grill cleaning
