"Why did we break up?"

Soojin looked surprised at Shuhua

-How did you find out?

-I'm not dumb Soojin and I know you, I know you've been avoiding me the most since I came from the hospital

Soojin rubbed her head and sat on the armchair next to the sofa looking at Shuhua

-Yes, and in the beginning it was okay, but I started working a lot and you were not so lucky, we didn't see each other as much but it worked because we were living together, until you got a big chance in Taiwan, you started doing a series there then we only talked on the phone but the time zone and our working hours didn’t match

- Didn't we see each other?

-Very little, I went to Taipei more because you amended one job after another, but even when I went there we hardly saw each other because of your work, which caused many fights, awful fights and one time I even accused you of being selfish

-For what you're telling me, it seems I was

-But it wasn't just you, we both focused on our careers, when you came to Los Angeles it was no different, we became strangers

-We never talked about it?

Shuhua asked, she was so ashamed wondering how either of them could have let their relationship end up like that

- We fought more than we talked, in the end, we were so angry at each other, both too proud to assume they were wrong

- How did we get to this point? My last memory is of us decorating this apartment together and I suddenly woke up in a hospital in a world where you don’t love me anymore

Shuhua rested her head in her hands

- My therapist warned me that forcing my memories could cause some

-Shuhua this is not an easy situation for me too

Shuhua looked at her surprised

-Really? I didn't find anything in the suitcase

-I took them out of the suitcase because the doctor had asked me to act like we were still married

Shuhua snorted

-You were never a good actress, and what do we do now?

-I don’t think it’s safe for you to go back to Taipei now and stop the treatment you’re doing

-But?

- Friends is all I can be right now

Shuhua looked at her feet

-My head hurts when I try to remember things, my therapist suggested that I watch some of the films I made to see if it helped me remember things

-And did it work?

-I have some sensations, I felt joy watching the first films but then a feeling of sadness, perhaps because of the emptiness that I see in my eyes in the scenes,I’m scared about the possibility of never remembering Soojin

Soojin took Shuhua's hand and

-I know it is not an easy situation, but you have me, your family and your friends, I know that with time you will improve

-What if I don't get better?

-We will cross that bridge when that day comes, you are not alone

Soojin hugged Shuhua and they stayed for a long time in that hug, both allowing themselves to appreciate each other's presence

After the conversation they had Soojin stopped avoiding Shuhua, after all she had promised that they would be friends, right? She was still working hard but she had made a commitment to herself to have dinner with Shuhua every day, at first things were still kind of weird between them, Shuhua had reduced her pda but was still extremely affectionate with her, they talked about the rehearsals and Shuhua´s doctor's appointments, Soojin even offered to go with her to remove the cast from her leg and when Shuhua was finally free from the cast they went to an ice cream shop to celebrate, Soojin would not admit to anyone but for years she didn´t smile that much

Shuhua tried to find out more about her version of the divorce, she asked her mother and sisters but they just said that she didn't talk to them about it, in fact they didn't see Shuhua often either, apparently she lived on the movie sets. When she asked Yuqi what she knew about the divorce she was not much help either

-I knew you two were having problems, but I only found out the real extent when you told me you were going back to Taipei once and for all

-Did I said the reason?

-You just said you wanted to see Soojin happy and knew you weren't doing her any more good

Shuhua was quiet for a moment on the phone

-Your divorce was a wakeup call for all of us, at least in our case it made us reevaluate our relationship so that it didn't happen to us too
