Golden Quill - The Legacy (GQ2)Sung-kyung stared out the window of her bedroom and thought about how quiet her life had grown. Emi was gone, her parents were burying their grief by working long hours and in the café and she had nothing to do but contemplate her life. It was unclear whether she would return to school. Her parents wanted her to keep busy and out of their way. It felt like they wanted her gone. That losing one daughter made them want to forget she even existed. At least they had forgiven her for running away to Seoul. They forgave her because she had found Emi. Sung-kyung still carried guilt over the whole situation. There was no way she could even begin to tell her parents the truth. They lived in a bubble. They didn’t know how much darkness there was in the world. They had believed the medical report that stated Emi had died from pneumonia because they didn’t want to face the alternative. If she was truthful then she’d admit how bored she was. What was he doing? Did he think about her still?
“Agassi?” someone called out.
Sung-kyung was shaken out of her thoughts and looking around, she saw someone she didn’t expect to see. Not in her wildest dreams. “What are you doing here?” she demanded
“Come out here and I’ll tell you,” Kris said and shoved his hands into his pockets. He had come into their small yard and looked around with interest. Sung-kyung hurried to the front door and flung it open. “You look like you’ve just seen a ghost.” Kris offered a tentative smile, “Are you happy to see me?”
“Wu Yifan…”
“I prefer if you just call me Kris. When you call me Wu Yifan it feels like you’re trying to put distance between us. Only the elders call me Wu Yifan.”
Sung-kyung held the door open, “You better come in. In that suit, you’re going to have the neighbours talking.” She could already see the curtains twitching and the nosy ajumma who lived next door had come out to stare openly at Kris.
