Springfield

“Seriously, how long are we going to play this game?” You whispered angrily as soon as you closed the door.

Myungsoo absent-mindedly looked around your room, “I don’t know,” he lifted up a photo of you and your friends from back home off of your desk. He studied it for a moment before he turned back to you, “How long is the human life span again?” He sat down on your bed with the photo still in his hands.

You bit your lip to suppress smacking him outright. You walked over and snatched the photo from him, “You think I don’t know how much you hate me? I know better than anyone.” You growled. He glared and stood up from your bed. His face was so close your noses almost touched.

“I don’t hate you.” He said. It was enough to make your heart skip a beat if he hadn’t said it in such an “I’m going to kill you” kind of way. You looked down, away from his eyes. If you stared any longer you don’t think you would’ve been able to be mad anymore. He continued despite your reaction, “I hate what you’re doing to us. Because of you we get into unnecessary fights. Because of you we have to suffer. Because of you we had to make a deal with our enemies.” He took steps towards you, “Because of you I’m second guessing myself.” He whispered as his hand reached up towards you and his nose got so close it lightly brushed yours. You gulped down hard. You weren’t sure what to do. Weren’t sure what to think. Weren’t sure if you even wanted to think or do anything.

There was Myungsoo. The cold, pokerfaced Myungsoo. In front of you in all his glory. His eyes. His nose. His lips. His breath that you could feel on the tip of your nose. Everything went silent and you didn’t know why you were so focused on his back when obviously the real show was in the front.

His hand gripped the door handle behind you and you let out a breath you didn’t know you were holding. He pulled it open and left you there with your thoughts. You put a hand to your chest and calmed yourself. What were you thinking? Letting his werewolf charms get to you. You didn’t think you had to put up your guard around Myungsoo just as you did with the other werewolves. You always assumed your dislike for him would be enough though it seemed as though you were wrong. You would have to make sure not to let his supernatural charms work their magic on you again.

That was the excuse you used for now anyway.

“Are you satisfied?” Woohyun asked as soon as Myungsoo got back to the kitchen. Myungsoo rose an eyebrow at him. “Sneaking up from behind out of nowhere isn’t exactly your style.” Myungsoo’s eyes widened. Woohyun had heard. Woohyun had heard what he didn’t want anyone to know. There was no doubt now that Woohyun had figured out why Myungsoo acted the way he did.

Myungsoo his lips and ignored Woohyun’s comment. It was too early to reveal himself, “I’m not going to steal your play thing.”

“Play thing? She’s not a play thing, she’s a living breathing human,” Woohyun rose his voice a bit, offended, though he was immediately interrupted.

“That’s right,” Myungsoo growled, “She’s a human. What more reasoning do you need?”

Woohyun went silent. You were human. That’s why he had marked you in return for you helping him. He thought that would be the easy way to get out of feeling as though he owed you something. Since his scent was on you, he figured the hunters would back off, along with any other aggressive animal that happened to cross your path. Instead, it had the exact opposite effect. The hunters had grown interested in you all the more.

So what was the point of it all? He thought he’d never see you again but now you were in the thick of the dangers he and his friends faced everyday. Yet, here he was. Figuratively hand in hand with a human. As though you and danger were moths drawn to the same flame, you had taken his side. If given a second chance, he wondered if he would chose to mark you again. He had no answer to his question as he sat in silence.

You entered the kitchen quietly which made both of them look at you. “What did you come to tell me again?” You faked a laugh at your pathetic way to change the topic. You had heard Myungsoo call you a human as you had exited your room along with other mumblings you couldn’t make out but you knew that you probably didn’t want to know what else they were saying.

Woohyun gulped down and had to recollect his thoughts before he answered, “Ah right. We need your help with something.”

“House-sitting?” You questioned again for the umpteenth time. They could’ve just called you to do it. They didn’t have to visit to tell you to house-sit for them afterschool today. In fact, it would’ve saved you from seeing Myungsoo. You grimaced at the name and shook your head, “A quiet afternoon. Werewolf free thoughts.” You chanted as you flipped through the music magazine that Dongwoo had left on the coffee table before the werewolves departed.

You could’ve sworn you almost jumped out of your skin when someone suddenly plopped onto the couch beside you. You blinked a few times at the person who appeared. “You looked bored.” They mused at you.

You frowned, “Dongwoo, you could’ve at least not jumped over the back of the couch to sit down.” You turned back to the magazine and shook your head, “Almost gave me a heart attack.” You mumbled that last bit under your breath. After a moment, you eyed him, “Didn’t you werewolves have somewhere to be today?” You asked without looking at him.

Dongwoo sighed heavily, not a good sign at all, “Yeah. It’s the anniversary of the old man’s death.”

Your eyes widened. You looked at Dongwoo, “Old man?”

Dongwoo shifted in his seat towards you, “Sunggyu’s grandfather.”

Your eyes traveled down in reflex. Dongwoo couldn’t help the smile he was getting on his face. He was definitely grateful that he had helped Myungsoo save you that day in the rain. Of all humans the pack could have started to believe in, he was glad it was you. You weren’t superficial and he liked that. From what you wore yesterday, though it was a bit funny looking, he could tell you were sincere in your intentions.

You made eye contact with Dongwoo to find him staring at you. He looked away and pretended it didn’t happen. You ignored it and continued on with your thoughts, “Why did you come back so early?”

Dongwoo let out a laugh though you could tell it was fake, “I was stubborn back then. The others always had a good relationship with him but me, well I never even tried.” He saw the look on your face and immediately shook his head, “Don’t get me wrong, I went to pay respects. It’s because of him that I’m here today. Just, I’m not into standing in front of a grave site for hours on end thinking about the past. The old man always thought about the future and that’s what I plan on doing too.”

You couldn’t help but admire Dongwoo’s train of thought. He was definitely more mature than you had made him out to be. He blinked a few times at you, not getting why you were giving him wide flattering eyes. He laughed at your expression which made you look away.

“Man I’m starving,” Dongwoo got up from the couch and went to go to the kitchen. You quickly got up to go with him. You hadn’t eaten breakfast and though it didn’t seem like the werewolves exactly ate healthily, at least it was food. When you stood up you attempted to grab onto his arm to ask what he was going to eat.

Unfortunately, you did not forsee the fact that Dongwoo was an immovable wall. In your attempt to pull on him a bit, all you did was end up having your hand slip from his shoulder. The support you were using to stand from the couch was gone and you went tripping backwards. You cursed inwardly at your bad luck. How could you forget he was a supernatural wolf man?

Though what happened was unfortunate, it was fortunate that Dongwoo realized what you were trying to do. As your heel gave in and you went falling backwards, he grabbed onto your arm and yanked you up. You could’ve sworn you were on an amusement park ride with the amount of backlash you had gotten from him pulling you. However, he pulled you a bit too hard and you smacked your face right into his chest. Though from any other girl’s standpoint this was a lucky break, you couldn’t help but pay more attention to your now sore nose. It didn’t help that your head spun like crazy now either.

“Ah, my bad.” He apologized as his hands hovered over your frame. He wasn’t sure what to do. Whenever he pulled on Sungjong or Hoya, they never flung at him with such force. He needed to get used to the fact that he was stronger than you and could break you with a single finger if he wanted to. “Did I hurt you?”

You shook your head no, not wanting to make him feel bad. It was your fault for not thinking first after all. “I’m fine.”

A loud sound, like that of an earthquake, made the two of you look around cautiously. You grabbed onto his forearms to keep from falling as a rumble shook the whole house and caused the lamps and books to jiggle in place. You heard glass somewhere in the house break. After it subsided, you looked back at Dongwoo for an explanation. “What was that?” You asked.

Dongwoo narrowed his eyes as he monitored the surroundings, “I don’t know.”

You got goose-bumps. If a werewolf didn’t know something about his own den then it only meant more trouble for you.

A/N:

Another chapter is now up :)

I got a lot of comments this time (wow, you guys are awesome) so I have to address them now~

First off, the whole "marking" situation is explained in the chapter. Secondly, I had to google roman numerals and was just as surprised to find that 30=XXX. Thirdly, seeing you guys start to take sides (MyungsooxHyunjoo) is simply mindblowing to me. I love it!

So, I'm leaving you with a question based off of my third point. Who do you ship with Hyunjoo so far?

Don't be a silent reader~
