I stood in the spray of the shower for a long time. I didn't have much of an appetite and left Sunggyu in the middle of the meal. He wanted to follow me, but I told him to leave me alone for a while. I needed some time to mentally compose myself. Pushing my hair out of my face, I shut off the water that steamed up my bathroom. "You're stronger than her." I told myself wiping the condensation off the mirror. "You can get them all out." But the question was, would I also be able to make it out?
Being an assassin for this long wasn't easy. I went to pieces after Mels died and I felt like I wasn't really fully back yet but I needed to be for the guys. I had given up pretending I didn't care for them. They had started off as a mission and now they became as important as my own life. I dressed and walked to Celestia's office again. "I need clearance to call outside of the compound." I said and she raised an eyebrow.
"Who are you calling?" she asked.
"Do you need to know?" I asked.
She shrugged lightly. "No. Go ahead." and she called for a guard to hand me a phone.
I went to the greenhouse because I knew no one was going to be there and made my phone call. After hanging up I felt a lot better about the mission. This was going to work out. We were going to be okay.
I walked back towards my room when suddenly Daniel appeared. "Don't sneak up on me like that. I will punch you next time." I said and he scoffed and held out his hand. "Phone." and my eyes narrowed at him. "Why, so you can check my calls?" I asked. "Celestia just wants her phone back. If she wanted to tap your phone call, it would've been easy. I'm sure you deleted the records anyway, right?" and I placed the phone back in his hand. "Minji." he called me as I walked away.
"Let me give you a piece of advice. Don't believe everything you see or even feel." and he walked away. I sighed. I had no time to deal with cryptic messages. Swinging by my room I checked the weapons I had on hand. Making a list, I went to the armory to get more magazines for my gun and a few knives.
I sat in my room afterwards glad that Sunggyu wasn't there and was polishing my weapons when there was a knock on my door. I didn't feel like I could handle talking to anyone right now so I didn't reply or make a sound.
"Can I come in?" Myungsoo's familiar voice drifted through the door. My eyes opened in surprise, he was definitely on my list of unexpected visitors. "I don't want to talk with anyone right now." I finally answered him after a minute.
"We trust you." he suddenly said and I felt a pang of pain in my chest. "Don't." I said softly. But he already left.
------The Next Day-----
"We hit them tonight, under cover of darkness. Driving up to their compound would be too obvious. We're going to find a safe spot to park and go the rest of the way by foot." I said as we gathered for our debriefing. "Bring whatever weapons you think you need and are most comfortable with, we're leaving as soon as the sun sets." Daniel walked in then. "Here. The blueprints to the old compound, as current as possible. You were seriously thinking about going into this without something like this?" he asked.
"No. I knew she would give them to me." and his eyes flitted in surprise. He sighed. "I would say god speed, but he doesn't exist for people like us. Good luck." and before he walked out the door. "The hiking supplies you asked for have also been prepared and put into the cars."I nodded a silent thank you before turning back to our task.
I scanned over the blueprints and laid them out for everyone to see. Sunggyu stayed to the side and quiet. He and Woohyun had been having a silent glaring match since I began laying out the plans. I would have broken it up, but they would just go at it again once my back was turned. I took a deep breath. "Study these. Tell me where you want to go in from. I'm going in here." I pointed to a spot on the blueprint.
"I'm going in there too!" Woohyun and Sunggyu said at the same time and I looked at them. "It will be better in pairs." I said. "Sunggyu will stay with me." and the hurt was unmistakable behind Woohyun's eyes. He didn't even try to hide it. "Fine." he finally shrugged off. "I'll take the west wing with Myungsoo." and Myungsoo nodded.
"Hoya and Dongwoo. Sungyeol and Sungjong." I marked off their spots on the layout. "This is where the heart of the compound is. I don't believe she would move it because why create more work for herself. She would draw too much attention if she remodeled the whole compound." I observed.
"She's right. We were blindfolded all the way there, but inside, I could see everything. Nothing has changed much from this blueprint. But she had a lot of new rooms. Locked and guarded. I have no idea what is in them because I had spent most of my time with them in a hospital bed." Sunggyu said solemnly. I patted him on the shoulder. "No one is blaming you for not knowing everything. She probably had no idea that we would get you back so fast." I said and he smiled slightly as he nodded at me.
"Okay it's settled then. Break." I left the room first because although I was playing it off, the tension in that room was enough to almost choke me.
