Soondeok’s diary

Eun changed his mind and said he’ll go on the trip! Oh my gosh! I can’t wait! It’s been a long time since I left the capital, maybe I can hunt as well! The prince seem to really want to leave as soon as possible because he suggested leaving 3 days later. That means I have 3 days to work out a plan and pack things up – it’ll need to be light, since it’ll be just the two of us and there will be no one to carry our things around. He said he’ll just go wherever he wants and stop whenever he wants…so I assume we’ll need to bring a tent as well. Maybe some dry snacks too.

Gosh! I’m so excited about it! I know the mountains very well so we won’t need to worry about getting lost, father’s taught me well. Speaking of which, I think I should write a letter to father and tell him about it! He’ll be happy to know I’m sure. The prince is now in the library getting maps – you don’t see him in the library very often – he seems very into this trip. Ah! I’ll also need to pack my medication…just in case. Let’s just hope the weather will continue to be fine, rainy trips are not the best to offer.

Eun’s diary

I begged mother this morning to let me go – alone. I begged and begged, I even did aegyo to her, the type she loves the most, but she wouldn’t budge! I asked her why and she got serious, I hate seeing her being like that – like the time I broke her vase and the time I accidentally stepped on her painting…

She said she knew I haven’t been sleeping with Soondeok! She also said that she found it out herself and told me not to blame it on Soondeok since she’s such an innocent child and doesn’t know anything about it. ‘If the king finds out, what do you think will happen?’ was what she said.

I know what will happen…and I don’t plan on letting the king know – so I zipped my lips and gave up begging to go on the trip at all. But then mother said I need to go with Soondeok if I don’t want her telling father about it! Can you imagine? My mother is threatening me and wanted to force me into going on this trip with Soondeok!

And the nonsense she said was just mind-blowing! She said she wants to hold her grandchildren soon! Never! Never ever never ever! I didn’t want to hear mother nag on about it so I agreed to go on the trip and left. I hope she’s happy! The quicker we leave the better! Once I’m out of the capital I’ll slip away and get on a boat and travel to the west for good! There, I can build my own shop and I can decide when to open it when to close it, when to travel and when to stay. I’ll be completely free!

And the first thing I’ll do is change my name – I hate my name! ‘Eun’! Who will call their son ‘Eun’? It’s like calling your son ‘coins’ or ‘gold’ or ‘money’! Why not choose something nicer? Like ‘Hyun’ or ‘Soo’ or ‘Hun’, something like that. The ‘Baek’ of Baekah seems nice as well. Anyway, I’ll need to start packing things up and work out my escape route, and how to get rid of Soondeok in order to do so…
