Enjoying Oneself on the Many Fishes in the Sea
Romantic Street: A Detour To Destiny
Yuri POV
*1st-of-August-2016*
7:00 PM. . I'm late. She's going to get mad at me.
I finally arrived in front of the restaurant where my girlfriend, Krystal Jung, just told me to meet her up through text message. I went inside and a waiter guided me to her table. She was situated at the farthermost side of the fine dining restaurant beside the glass wall. Yet, I couldn't see her face from my view as she's facing away. *Sigh*. I hope she's not mad.
Alright. Take a deep breath. Here it goes.
"Hey, baby." I greeted as I came closer. She looked at me like she was a little startled from seeing me.
She faked a chuckle, "Hey."
I leaned closer and kissed her cheek. I sat on the free chair opposite hers. We then ordered food. She was silent the whole time while we're waiting for our orders to arrive, though. It seems like something's really bothering her.
It was only until around ten minutes after we started eating when I finally asked, "So, what's up? Why did you want us to meet?"
She smiled awkwardly, "Well... I just miss you."
I chuckled, "We were just together last night, remember? It was even our anniversary celebration."
She faked a chuckle again, "Yeah, it might be because of that... our anniversary. Maybe that's why I miss you."
"I see..." Hmmm. There really is something wrong with her. Look at her eyes. She's trying to avoid my gaze throughout the whole time. Not to mention, she's pressing her lips most of the time too.
Maybe, she's hiding something. It's like she's guilty. What is it...?
She glanced at me for a bit then focused back on her food. Now, what's with that apologetic look...?
"Are you okay?" I asked.
She looked at me and stared for a while. She sighed and answered, "I need to tell you something."
"I really really really really like you? That Carly Rae Jepsen song?"
She finally sent out a genuine laugh, "Silly. Not that."
I chuckled, "Sorry. I thought you're gonna start a musical number."
She looked at me disbelievingly, still with a smile on her face, "Why on Earth would I? Seriously, Yuri..."
"Well... I was just trying to lift up your mood. You seemed to be really bothered by something."
And I didn't get another response. She just stared at me for a very long while. It wasn't just a normal staring. Guilt was all over her face. Then, after a few moments, tears have fallen from her eyes. She started to sob. "I'm sorry. I'm really so sorry."
"What are you sorry for?"
She reached for my hand and looked at me. "I know we've been together for a year already." Suddenly, she cried loudly, "Now, I feel much worse! It was even our anniversary yesterday!" She quickly covered her face with her palms as she banged her head on the table while crying.
I stopped her from hurting herself and calmed her down. But, yeah, I just don't want her to cause a commotion here. "Krys, relax. Tell me what is it about?"
"I'm..." she looked away. “I'm not being loyal to you..."
Oh.
"You see, four months ago, I downloaded this dating app on my phone." She pulled out her phone and showed it to me. "You know, I just did that because we were having a fight that time."
I chuckled, "It's just a social app. It's not a big deal."
"Yeah, but you see..." She paused then took a deep breath. "I happened to have chatted with this one guy for a week. Then, after a month, we met personally. It was an accident, though. I was buying groceries at the supermarket near my place that time and he happened to recognize me."
"Uhuh. So...?"
"And..."
"And...?"
"We started to meet up often like..."
"Like???"
"Like we're on the level of dating..."
"..."
"I'm sorry. I'm really, really sorry I cheated on you."
For real... I wonder what's with the Jungs and cheating. Jessica happened to do the same back then too... Hmmm... Was it hereditary...? No, no. I don't think so. Uncle Vincent never cheated on Aunt Anna. Wait. Krystal's not his daughter... Well, could it be Aunt Anna, though?
She continued, "Yuri, that is why... *sniff-sniff* I wanted to be fair on you."
"Err- okay???"
"Let's break up."
"Oh..."
"..."
"Do you... love him?"
She blushed as she looked away. "I think so..."
"I see..." I smiled faintly at her, "I understand. Yeah, I'll give you the freedom you need."
She looked at me with a hint of shock, "R-really? You're not mad or something?"
"Well... You can't really get mad at someone when she has fallen in love with someone else. It's not like that someone forced herself to feel that. It comes naturally, I think."
Now, she looked saddened. Okay, did I say something wrong?
I reached for her hand. "Trust me. It's all okay. I wish you all the best."
"Thank you, Yuri. Thank you very much for always being too good to me."
I smiled back. "So uhhmmm... who's the lucky guy?"
"I don't know if you knew him. He calls himself Kai at the dating app but his real name's Kim Jongin."
Kim Jongin? Taeyeon's older brother? Wow. She and Jessica are really sisters, no doubt.
"I see..." I smiled again. "Congratulations for your new love."
And she went back to looking guilty. But, really, my greeting was genuine, okay. I really want to congratulate her for it.
After our supposed-to-be dinner date which turned out to be about breaking up, I still insisted on walking her to, at least, the parking lot. When we reached in front of her car, she snapped, "So, I guess this is it?"
"Yeah..."
"Goodbye, Yuri."
I went closer. I reached for her both hands. "I'm going to miss you, Krystal." I leaned in and pecked her on the lips. And with that, she cried again. I consoled her into a hug.
She returned the embrace and hugged me tightly. I pulled her closer to me. "Hey..." I whispered.
"Yeah?" She faced me. I rested my forehead on hers.
"Can you... can you give me this night?" I asked with the saddest expression I could show her. "At least, for one last time?" I continued. She looked at me back sympathetically. opened slightly.
I made the tip of my nose touched hers. "Please?"
"Yuri..."
"Please...?" I uttered again.
She stared at my eyes then looked down to my lips. Soon, she closed her eyes and captured my lips.
Hmmm. And I take that as a yes.
---
I opened my eyes. It seems it's already morning as the daylight shines through the window. I noticed bare- Krystal trying to collect her clothes that were scattered all over the floor. Then, she started to wear them. For her not to notice that I'm already awake, I closed my eyes the narrowest I could, at least for me to take a peak, though.
I say, she really was fast. She happened to wear back all of her clothes and tidied up her face and hair in just two minutes. Afterwards, she silently went out of the room and closed the door back.
I went out of bed. Yet, before I could go to the bathroom for a shower, I heard my mom, Boa, greeted Krystal cheerfully, "Hello there, my future daughter-in-law!"
"I-- g-ggood m-morning, M-miss Sara." she said in a stutter. Hmm. Probably, she's shock from seeing her too. Well, my mom doesn't live with me here in my condominium unit. She just happens to drop by randomly and I think, this is one of those moments.
"Are you in a hurry?" Mom asked. "Why don't you stay for breakfast?"
"Err-- n-no, I'm r-really in a hurry. Kay-thanks-bye!" she responded. I then heard the front door shut loudly.
I went back to my original routine. I took a shower and fix myself up. I'm already late for work, though. I'll just make it a half-day leave from work. Besides, I'm sure since mom's here, we'll definitely engage into a lousy and long conversation again.
As I went out of my bedroom, mom cheekily greeted me, "Good morning, my most favorite son in the world!"
"Umma, I am your only son." I went to take a seat on the dining chair. I started to fill up one of the already set-up plates on the table with the food she prepared. "Good morning, by the way."
She sat down on the chair opposite to mine and started to stuff her own plate with food too. "I just saw Krystal earlier. She REALLY was in a hurry, I think, AND she looks weird. Did you two had a fight?"
"Well, we just broke up yesterday." I casually said.
She looked at me in so much confusion and disbelief, "And why did she still spend the night here with you?"
I chuckled, "Umma, do you really want me to tell you that?"
"But of course!"
"It's called uhmmm... farewell , break-up something?"
"What the actual fu--- we never had that in our time!"
"Hmmm. Probably, you were just not aware it was already being practiced during your time."
"Aisshh-- seriously, George Nicholas... How could you become so UNLIKE your father?"
"Umma, please, stop calling me by that name."
"So how do you want me to call you?" She then mocked, "YUWREE-YAH?"
