Chapter 99

Hard But Easy

Krystal bit her lips as she clasped her hands tight. Her eyes continued to look around the cafe as she glanced over at her phone, once a while. She was about to stir her drink when she noticed the person that she was waiting for had just entered the cafe. Krystal raised her hand up slightly so that the person could noticed her and waited as the lady walked up to her table with a smile.

"I'm so sorry. Did you had to wait long?"

"It's okay. I was the one who was early. Why don't you place your order first, Jihyun-ssi?" Krystal asked, with a tinge of awkwardness.

"We've known each other for a while now and you still address me so formally. You could just call me Unnie." Jihyun smiled before excusing herself to make her order over the counter.

A few minutes after Jihyun left, the table vibrated due to an incoming message from Jihyun's phone that was left on the table. Krystal took a glance and noticed that someone, who was named as 'Woori' with a key symbol, had left a sweet message to Jihyun.

Enjoy your lunch. I'll see you for dinner later. Love you.

Krystal's attention was diverted when Jihyun came back to the table as she started to feel nervous. Two hours ago, she had received a message from Jihyun asking if it was possible for them to have lunch together any time she was free. Krystal, who was too eager to find out the reason for her request, then suggested for them to meet up on the same day.

"Sorry once again." Jihyun took her seat and pointed at the half-eaten cake on the table. "Are you planning to have that only as lunch?"

"I wasn't that hungry." Krystal replied quickly. She was getting more anxious as Jihyun didn't seem to have the intention to get straight to the point about the reason for the meet-up as she saw Jihyun smiling away after checking her phone. "Anyway...."

Her sentence was interrupted when the waitress came over to send Jihyun's order of a plate of pasta, a slice of cake and a cup of coffee. Jihyun requested for another smaller plate from the waitress who nodded her head.

"Let's share the pasta. I heard it's got good reviews."

"Jihyun-ssi... I'm not sure if you had noticed but this meeting is awkward for me. So please help me by going straight to the point. Why did you request to meet me?" Krystal was unable to hold back her curiosity any longer.

Jihyun looked a little surprised by Krystal's direct question but she smiled before leaning back against the chair. "Is everything okay between you and Eunjin?"

Krystal had expected that the meet-up was indeed had to do with Eunjin but the way Jihyun was mentioning it nonchalantly, caused her to irk a little. Jihyun seemed to sound as if she demanded to know about the situation even though her question doesn't sound like it.

"What do you mean?" Krystal tried to put on a confused look. "I'm sorry. I don't think I get your question. Furthermore, I don't think you need to be of any concern with regards to my relationship with Eunjin."

As she ended her sentence, Krystal's tone of voice reflected her firmness as Jihyun continued to smile, showing that she's not perturbed by Krystal's words.

"I know that I have no right to be concern about your relationship but that incident in front of the restaurant last week, made me feel like I've been unnecessarily dragged into your misunderstanding with Eunjin. The way your friend was glaring at me, didn't go unnoticed." Jihyun explained.

When Krystal was reminded of that incident, she immediately felt a little embarassed albeit being annoyed with Jihyun for witnessing it. Krystal was momentarily loss for words as she took a sip of her drink to cover it up.

"Look, Krystal. My intention to meet up with you is not to make things worse for both of us. Frankly speaking, I'm aware of your opinion of me. You don't like my presence around Eunjin and I can understand that. To be honest, I did took a liking to her and there were times where I had wished that Eunjin had chosen me instead of you. I was a little disappointed when both of you got engaged."

Krystal's heart skipped a beat when she heard Jihyun's confession. She was about to say something when Jihyun continued talking.

"But that was all in the past. I'm not sure if Eunjin is even aware about my feelings for her but I know that she had always treated me as nothing more than a business partner or maybe a friend." Jihyun gave a small smile as she let out a disappointed sigh.

"Did you ever tried to confess to her?" Krystal asked carefully even though she knew that she was afraid to hear the answer.

"Anni." Jihyun shook her head and Krystal asked for the reason. "Because I knew I would be rejected and I don't want to lose a good friend like Eunjin, or make things awkward between us at work. It's difficult to find a person who can understand your position as the CEO of a big company and the challenges that comes with it. "

"Why are you so sure that Eunjin would reject you? Both you and Eunjin are compatible in so many ways and are able to help each other out in times of need." Krystal replied with a heavy heart.

"Because I'm not you." Jihyun's reply caused Krystal to blush a little. "Initially, I don't understand why you would be jealous of me when it's obvious that Eunjin loves you a lot. Both of you are already engaged and most probably would have talked about marriage too, so why would you still feel uncomfortable with my presence. It was not until recently that I finally understood the reason as to why you could still feel all these insecurities."

"Recently? What happened?" Krystal asked, sounding concerned for the first time.

"Because recently, I've started to learn the meaning of being afraid of losing someone you love."

************************

"Eunjin-ah, I make a move first. Fany is almost here already."

I felt light taps on my back as I nodded my head while concentrating on arranging the tools in the boxes. I heard the sound of a car horn and looked up. Tiffany's head popped up from the side of the driver's window as I saw Taeyeon making her way to the passenger's seat.

"Hi Eunjin."

Tiffany managed to greet and wave at me while waiting for Taeyeon to settle down. "Take care."

I chuckled at her loud voice while waving back at them as the car reversed out from the workshop. It was my turn to close it today as I looked up to the cafe to ensure that all the lights are out. Usually, the cafe will close the same time as the workshop but since there were not much crowd today, Sooyoung had decided to close it an hour earlier so that she could pick up Yoona at Twin Towers before going out for a date after that.

I still remembered the conversation I had with Sooyoung and Taeyeon earlier on.

(Flashbacks)

"I'm thinking of closing the cafe slightly earlier today since it's been quite slow the past few days. I can go and fetch Yoona, maybe catch a movie or get some supper together." Sooyoung said out her plans as Taeyeon and I rolled away the old tyres that we had changed for a car earlier.

"Movie? Hhhmmm... It's been a while since I last watch a movie with Fany too. Maybe I can suggest it to her when she comes over to fetch me."

"There's a new movie that came out which receive good reviews. You should definitely watch it with Fany-unnie then bring her out for supper at this place."

I continued watching as Sooyoung showed something to Taeyeon from her phone. Both of them started to get excited as I felt a little amused.

"Why do the two of you looked so excited as if you are planning a date? You are just going out with your wives." I chuckled at my remarks but looked surprised when I saw the two of them staring at me.

"What's wrong with being excited about planning a date with our own wives?" Sooyoung asked with confusion.

"That's right. Why can't we feel excited about it?" Taeyeon repeated the question as I blinked a few times.

"I mean... You see your wives everyday. Late night movie, supper... Isn't that a given? You can even do those things at the comfort of your own house." I gave a straightforward reply. "Which is why I don't see the reason for being excited about it?"

"When you are married, these little things are the ones that keep your love burning for each other. But you seem to have lost the touch and excitement of dating." Sooyoung smirked at me.

"You sounded as if it has been a long time since Krystal and you had went on a date." Taeyeon added on with a cheeky look as both of them started to laugh.

"I still don't get it." I said which caused the two of them to pretend to gasp.

"This is bad. Soo, we need to help her." Taeyeon had a serious look on her face as Sooyoung shook her head.

"Eunjin, when was the last time you had actually planned a date for Krystal?" Sooyoung asked as I opened my mouth immediately to answer but I realised that I couldn't exactly remember. So I ended up not answering. "You couldn't remember, right? The excitement of planning and thinking of things that both of you can do together outside of your house comfort zone. Do you remember that feeling?"

I looked at both of them while thinking through Sooyoung's words. I remembered how it was before I moved to the current house and before Krystal started staying with me. I was always excited and anxious about meeting her and spending time together. But now, both of us seemed to be contented with just spending time at home. At least, to me.

"I guess you are getting too used to having Krystal around you. At this rate, both of you won't even bother to be married." Taeyeon's remarks made me stared intently at her. "Wae? Was I wrong? Sooyoung and I are married but we still find it exciting to plan dates. We still feel the need to work hard to keep the passion alive. But you? You are not even married but you act like Krystal will never leave you. Just because you love her and just because everyone around you knows that you love her, it does not mean anything if you don't show it."

"I... I mean we both... had talked about marriage before."

"When was the last time you two talked about it?" Taeyeon questioned me as I softly replied that it was months ago. "And I believe that is when all the insecurities start to kick in."

My eyes widened as I started to realise the same thing. Taeyeon  and Sooyoung knew about the small arguments that Krystal and me sometimes had because both of them were mostly with me at work. So they were able to witness my mood swings which I eventually had to explain the cause of it.

"Frankly speaking, Yoona will sometimes get jealous or even a little angry when she finds out that some of our regular customers prefer to come over to this workshop cafe. Especially when she knew that it was those customers who always came over to look for me when I was still handling Twin Towers previously. Even Yoona who is married to me, can be like this. What more Krystal, who is going against a CEO and she's not even married to you. Imagine how worried she is about losing you."

"She's not going to lose me and she doesn't have to go against a CEO or even anyone." I answered with confidence but it deflated when I heard what Taeyeon said after that.

"Your words don't mean a thing if you don't show it."

(End of Flashbacks)

Taking out my phone, I dialled a number and waited for it to be answered.

"Hey sweetheart, want to go out for a night drive and supper?"

************************

"Don't you think that Eunjin is being too lenient to my sister?"

Yuri turned to her side and looked at her wife as she closed the book that was in her hand.

"Wae? Do you prefer them to fight it out instead?" Yuri asked with her fist clenched, showing the motion of fighting

"Anni... I mean, it was obvious that Soojung was in the wrong but Eunjin was the one who took the effort to find her and asked for forgiveness." Jessica frowned a little as if she was in deep thoughts.

"Maybe Eunjin felt that she was in the wrong too. Which is why she asked to be forgiven." Yuri's words caused the frown to deepen on Jessica's face. "Eunjin told me that it was all a misunderstanding. That should not even happen if she had done something a long time ago."

"Even if it's a misunderstanding, Soojung should have trusted Eunjin and not reacted that way. By the way, what do you mean by saying that Eunjin should have done something a long time ago. Do what?"

"Seems like you are only seeing things from an outsider point of view, Sica. Let me give you an example. Imagine, if you saw me talking to one of those girls whom you knew had a crush on me and when you call me, I told you that I was out with Eunjin. What would you have done or think?"

"That you were lying to me?" Jessica gave her honest answer. "Most probably, I would walk up to you to ask or question you about it when you are home."

"Exactly. Except that, in Krystal's case, Luna was the one who dragged her towards Eunjin and was also the one who questioned Eunjin. From what Krystal told me, she wanted to talk it out with Eunjin when they are at home."

"When did Soojung told you all that?" Jessica looked puzzled as she didn't remember if her sister had mentioned it before.

"The night when she came home with tears in her eyes and was scolded by you after explaining what had happened between her and Eunjin. I was actually surprised because you were not on your sister's side but instead, you took Eunjin's side. I found Krystal seated by herself in the living room around three in the morning and offered her a cup of warm milk since she said that she couldn't sleep. She told me that she's been messaging Eunjin to ask for forgiveness but she has yet to receive any reply." Yuri let out a sigh and shook her head a little. "In this case, I do agree that Eunjin was in the wrong. No matter what had happened between them, ignoring your partner without replying even once, is not the right thing to do."

It was Jessica's turn to sigh and she placed her head on Yuri's shoulder. The room was in silence for almost five minutes when Jessica suddenly bolted up as if she remembered something.

"Yah, Kwon Yuri. You still have yet to explain the part where you said that Eunjin should have done something a long time ago."

Yuri rubbed her shoulder after she was smacked by her wife as she chuckled a little. "Eunjin said that she should have made Krystal get to know CEO Kang better, at least as friends and also informed Krystal that CEO Kang is already attached."

"She's attached? Since when?" Jessica repeated Yuri's sentence.

"Yes. From what I heard, the guy was one of her close friends who had feelings for her since they were studying together but didn't have the courage to admit because he didn't want to lose her friendship. It was only after CEO Kang started to show signs of liking Eunjin that he decided to come clean. They started dating about two months ago. Even Taeyeon, Sunny and I were not aware of it."

"CEO Kang really had feelings for Eunjin? I thought they were only friends? No wonder Soojung felt insecure. If I was up against someone like CEO Kang, I would feel insecure too. Does Eunjin knows that CEO Kang likes her?" Jessica squinted her eyes, as if making sure that Yuri would give her an honest answer.

"I'm not sure about that. Eunjin tends to be a little slow when it comes to things like this." Yuri laughed at her own remarks but she gulped her own saliva when she saw how scary Jessica was staring at her."But.. but.. I know that Eunjin always treat CEO Kang like a friend or business partner.. nothing more than that."

"But why didn't Eunjin tell Soojung about the CEO being attached? It would have prevented many misunderstanding."

"Eunjin thought that it was not important because Krystal didn't really know CEO Kang and she thought it was not her place to inform others about it. I think that is where Eunjin did wrong. She knew that Krystal was feeling insecured about CEO Kang's presence around her but she thought little of it. I guess that's why Eunjin apologised."

"Hearing it out from you, makes it more clearer. Both of them are at fault and I shouldn't have scolded my sister so badly. Do you think Soojung is upset with me for not taking her side?" Jessica pouted as an expression of guilt appeared on her face.

"She will understand. Anyway...."

Before Yuri could continue her sentence, her phone rang as she stretched to her bedside table to grab it.

"Hey Eunjin. What's up?"

Jessica just stared blankly at Yuri who seemed to be listening to instructions given by the other person on the other line. She couldn't hear the conversation but the way Yuri was nodding her head and the small frowns that appeared once a while, showed that it  was a serious matter.

"Arraseo. I'll see you this weekend then. Take care and send my regards to Krystal." Yuri ended the call as she turned to face a worried-looking Jessica. "It's Eunjin. She was asking if it's possible for Krystal to stay at our place for the time being."

"Wae? Omo... Did they break up?" Jessica clasped as her eyes widened.

"Anni.. Eunjin said that she needed to improve her relationship with Krystal so she needed the time apart. She said to trust her and she will explain further when we meet up over the weekend. She also said not to tell Jessica." Yuri paused for a moment before her eyes widened as she turned slowly to her side and chuckled nervously while Jessica gave her a deadly glare

************************

"Are you sure that Krystal is okay with this arrangement?"

I turned to my side and stared at Yuri for a short while before nodding my head. "After what happened between us and after what Taeyeon told me last week, I talked to Krystal about it. Both of us agreed that we had taken a wrong step in our relationship."

"Wrong step?" Sooyoung asked as I turned to face her.

I was about to answer when Taeyeon shot me another question. "Was it that time when I said that you were getting used to having Krystal around you?"

Instead of answering her question, I just nodded my head to Taeyeon. Yuri started to ask question but lucky for me, Sooyoung and Taeyeon took the liberty to explain the incident that happned at the workshop last week. While waiting for the 3 of them to finish their conversation, I received a message from Krystal

I've reached Unnie's place safely. Enjoy your lunch. I love you. - Krystal

A smile appeared on my face automatically and it made me realised that it had been a while since my heart flustered.

"Oi, oi, oi.. What's with that silly smile?" Yuri smacked my shoulder lightly as I just grinned. "Anyway, what's with the wrong step?"

"The wrong step about jumping into moving in together. At that time, I wanted to kind of recover the time that we had lost being apart from each other due to Krystal furthering her studies overseas, by suggesting that we moved in together. I thought we would be more ready for marriage life once we start to live together and adapt to each other's living style. But both of us had things and dreams that we had to handle in between that period. It was a tough time for both of us but because Krystal has always been physically there for me during those times, it makes me feel like she would always be there. Like what Taeyeon said, I already felt like both of us were married and spending our lives together. But all these are actually just me rushing into things, taking advantage of Krystal's presence and thinking that there was nothing wrong with the relationship. I became too dependent on Krystal, expecting her to always understand every situation of mine."

"So you are saying that Krystal also agreed that you had rushed into things?" Taeyeon asked as I nodded my head. "But why didn't she say anything about it or tell you about how she felt?"

"Krystal couldn't find the right time to talk to me about it, especially with whatever that was happening to Hanjin Shipping. She didn't want to add on to my stress and she didn't really like the idea of me being alone at home by myself during those period. So she put the talk on hold until eventually everything became a routine. After we had a heart to heart talk that night about our expectations of the relationship, about our dreams and about what is best for us, I suddenly remembered that Krystal was four years younger than me. There was a lot of things that she had wanted to do before finally settling down."

"Now that you had mentioned it, I just realised that too. She's like the youngest among us but we had totally forgotten about it. Now I understand where all that insecurities are coming from. Comparing to most of us who are already quite stable in our worklife and personal life, Krystal is still a baby who's trying to learn more about the world." Sooyoung had an expression that showed as if she had said something very profound.

"But what has that got to do with Krystal moving back in with us?" Yuri asked as I gave her a small smile.

"We decided to 'reboot' our relationship."

"Reboot?"

Sooyoung, Yuri and Taeyeon said at the same time before the 3 of them started to bombard me with questions as I just chuckled away. Seeing how I was not answering any of their questions and was just laughing them off, they started to calm down and just stared at me.

"I know all of you have your concerns but it's a decision not solely made by me. Both Krystal and I made the decision together. Whether it's the right decision or not, both of us has no answer to it but we believe that it's the best decision for our relationship at the moment."

"You plan to reboot your relationship from the start?" I shook my head to Yuri's question and explained that we would start from the time she graduated. "Okay. I need to know exactly so that I can explain to your anxious future sister-in-law back home. But how long will this take?" Yuri asked.

"For now, we can't give you a definite answer. Like what Taeyeon said before, we need to find the missing passion in our love life and I want to make sure that Krystal has no regrets when one day I asked for her hand in marriage. So for the time being, I need your full support on this. You don't have to worry about Jessica. Krystal said that she will take care with explaining to her sister."

"Thank god for that."

Yuri's response caused laughter at the table as we started to talk about other matters.
