Chapter 28

Hard But Easy

"What were you thinking, going to the meeting with your face like that?"

I pouted and slumped my shoulders as I avoided eye-contact with Halmeoni, who was seated opposite me. Uncle Park was seated at the couch, a distance away without looking at my direction. I knew he was listening to the conversation but he didn't want to get involved.

"If Uncle Park didn't arrive to your rescue earlier during the meeting, you'll continue to be ridiculed by the shareholders. How are they going to trust the company in your care if they think that you're involve in fights?" Halmeoni continued to nag as I listened quietly. "Now I want you to explain to me, how you got the bruise on your lips."

I took a deep breathe and explained what happened between me and Amber, 2 days ago at the basketball court. I admitted to Halmeoni that I didn't expect the injury to cause my lips to be bruised. When I went to the meeting earlier, the bruise was not as bad as it was when I came to work yesterday so I thought that no one would notice. During the meeting, the shareholders kept asking me about my injury and some even teased me about being in fights until Uncle Park said that my injury was due to a fall from my motorbike. After Uncle Park's remarks, no one dared to say anything further.

"You need to remember that you're the Director of Hanjin at the moment. There's a certain image that you need to upkeep. I hope this kind of incident will be avoided in the future." Halmeoni said as I nodded my head.

Our conversation was interrupted by the sound of the lift door. Ms Jeon Hae-rim, who was the Head of Secretary, walked in with a plastic bag in her hands. She was seven years older than me but had worked for Harabeoji for the past ten years. Even though she's older, she was still beautiful and looked younger than her actual age.

"Mdm Han, this is the medication that you had asked me to purchase." Ms Jeon bowed her head slightly and handed the plastic bag to Halmeoni.

"Thank you so much, Hae-rim. By the way, please cancel or reschedule all of Ms Han's appointments for today. She'll be going home to rest for now."

I just observed everything in silence as Halmeoni gave the instruction to Ms Jeon who just obliged before walking away. As I turned to look at Halmeoni with a blank face, she walked up to me and placed the plastic bag on the table.

"Go home and rest. Apply the cream to the bruise. Hopefully it'll go away sooner."

An hour later, I had just switched off the engine of my motorbike when two pair of arms engulfed me. I had to squirm my arms out before lifting the visor on my helmet.

"Yah!! Can't the both of you wait until I climb off the bike?"

Taeyeon and Yuri released their arms around me as they grinned dorkily. Removing my helmet and climbing off the bike, I made my way to the centre of the workshop as Taeyeon and Yuri followed from behind. As I slumped myself on the couch and placed my helmet on the table, another figure emerged from behind the main office glass door.

"Eunjin!!!"

Sunny literally skipped her way towards me and jumped on the couch before giving me a hug. Or should I say it's more like a headlock.

"How come you here? Don't you have to work?" Sunny asked as I pointed to my lips. it was then did she noticed the bruised as she gasped. "Omo, what happened? Did you get into a fight?"

"Amber punched her two days ago." Taeyeon replied on my behalf as she started to tell the story of how she and Yuri found me with my bleeding lips a few days back.

(Flashback 2 days ago)

"Oh my god!! What happened to you, Eunjin?"

Tiffany and Jessica walked into the living room, with Yuri and Taeyeon behind them. The four of them scurried nearer to me as Krystal stopped pressing the towel since the bleeding had stopped.

"She got punched in the face." Krystal replied.

"Yah, Han Eunjin. You better tell me who did this to you. Me and Taeyeon are going to find that person and seek revenge." Yuri immediately said with a tinge of anger as I shook my head.

"Are you a gangster? Can a problem be solve through violence?" Jessica looked at her as Yuri shook her head timidly.

Their attention shifted back to me as I told them about what happened at the basketball court earlier.

"Amber really did that? Wow... She must have been really pissed off with you." Taeyeon commented as I noticed Krystal sighing.

"This is all my fault. If I didn't continue to lead her on, this won't have happened." Krystal said as I wrapped my arms on her shoulders.

"No one is at fault. We didn't expect all this to happen, anyway." I said as I smiled sincerely at her. "Stop putting the blame on yourself, okay. I'm more worried about you since there's a possibility that you might meet Amber in school. She really seemed very angry at both of us."

(End of Flashback)

"I didn't expect Amber to be so violent." Sunny's remark caused me to reply that no one expected that too. "But still, how come you're here?"

It was my turn to tell them about what happened in the office earlier as they listened quietly.

"Have you ate your lunch yet?" Yuri asked as I shook my head. "Need me to order from Twin Towers?"

"It's okay. I was planning to just drop by for a while before heading home. Halmeoni might check up on me and if I'm not at home, she might scold me again." I pouted before sighing. "I miss this place."

Silence engulfed the atmosphere for the next 5mins before a beeping sound disrupted it. Taking out my phone quickly since I thought that it was from Halmeoni, I let out a sigh of relief when I saw that it was from Krystal.

I just read your message. Sorry for the late response. I was in the library earlier. How come you're going home? Have you had lunch yet? - Krystal

"Message from Krystal?" Taeyeon asked as she tried to steal a glance on my screen.

I nodded my head while typing a reply to Krystal.

Haven't eaten my lunch. Currently dropping by at the workshop to say hi to the girls. Was instructed to go home and rest by Halmeoni because of the bruise on my lips. p/s: I think I screwed up during the meeting today. :( - Eunjin

"Is it tough? At the new workplace?" Yuri asked as I took some time before nodding my head. "Too much work?"

"It's not really that. I just don't feel comfortable, having all that authority on so many workers. People coming to you for decisions, people treating you so differently from the rest. There are some who are even up to you. And it's only been two weeks." I sighed as I facepalmed myself. "Sunny, do you want to take over my place in the company? I think you would do a better job then me."

"Managing this workshop is already hard for me some times. I can't imagine myself in your situation. But there are people who are helping you out right? As in genuinely."

I nodded my head at Sunny's question as we continued to chat until it was almost 1.30pm. I excused myself and told them that I would be heading home.

"Come by whenever you're free. We should hang out some time." Yuri said.

"That's right. We can organise activities to help you to release your stress at work." Taeyeon suggested as she gave me a thumbs up.

"If you need any advice, you can contact me and I'll try my best to assist you in anyway." Sunny's idea made me nod my head as I waved to the girls before riding off.

************************

I stretched out my hand and yawned as I sat up from lying on my bed. Taking a glance at the clock on the wall, I noticed that it was already 6pm. I had reached home about 4hrs ago. After taking a shower, I had planned to order some food for lunch but had fallen sleep on the bed instead while looking through the phone directory book.

The small blinking light from my phone grabbed my attention as I shifted backwards to rest against the headboard. I saw a few messages from Krystal which she had sent when I was asleep.

Are you done with your shower? Have you called for food delivery yet? - Krystal

How long do you need a shower? It's been almost 2hrs since you've informed me that you're home and I have yet to receive any reply from you. - Krystal

Yah, Stupid!! Why are you not replying my messages? - Krystal

Fine!! Don't answer any of my messages. I don't care anymore. - Krystal

Han Eunjin!! Are you okay? You better make sure that you are because you're making me worried. - Krystal

I had to stiffle my laughter when I read through the cute messages from Krystal.

"Aigoo, this girl. Even when she's worried, she still wants to pretend to be cold." I mumbled to myself as I quickly typed a reply.

I'm sorry, Princess. I had fallen asleep earlier while looking through the phone directory book. Guess I had missed my lunch. I will try to eat more for dinner but I have yet to decide about what I'm going to eat. p/s: Sorry for making you worried. - Eunjin

Looking around my apartment, a sudden surge of boredom struck me as Yuri's and Taeyeon's words flashed through my mind. This was already the second week since I took over Harabeoji's position in the company which means that he had been in a coma for almost 3 weeks. Within that time period, I could count the numbers of time that I had went out with Krystal and it's less than the number of fingers that I have in one hand.

On the other hand, Krystal had been busy too with her school work since it's her final year. Even when I talked or messaged her on the phone, I would be mindful that it won't be too draggy until late at night since I knew that she needed her rest.

The stress from work was also adding a toll on me as I kept feeling lethargic easily. My appetite was also affected. I was lost in my own thoughts when my phone beeped.

Ms Han, I was able to cancel most of your appointments today. There's only two rescheduled meeting so far and both would be on Friday. The meeting with Hyundai's CEO would be at 10am, followed by the meeting with the managers from our overseas branches would be at 2pm after lunch. For your approval please. - Ms Jeon Hae-rim

I sighed again and was about to reply when the doorbell rang. Looking up, I scratched my head since it was rare that I would have visitors especially at this hour.

I was totally taken aback when I opened the door and found Krystal standing in front of me. She had an unreadable expression as she shoved a plastic bag onto my chest which I took from her.

"Dinner." Krystal said as I continued to blink my eyes. "If you're not inviting me in, I'll make my way back to the dorm."

The moment I heard that, I quickly grabbed her hand and pulled her in. I placed the plastic bag onto my counter top before gesturing for her to sit down at the couch.

"How did you know my address?" I asked as Krystal folded her arms and pouted.

"Because of you, I was teased by Yuri-unnie earlier. It's not my fault that you've never told me about what your address, right?" I could only nod my head subconsciously at Krystal's question. "By the way, I hitched a ride with Yuri-unnie earlier. My car's at the workshop."

"What happened to your car?" I asked as Krystal explained that it stalled after she went out to get some stuff for her school assignment.

"I called Yuri-unnie to help me with the car. She came with the tow truck and it was pulled away to the workshop. While waiting for Yuri-unnie to check on it, I received your message about just waking up and that you didn't manage to eat your lunch. So I asked Yuri-unnie if she could buy you dinner and drop by to see you. She suggested me to do it myself since it's better that way."

"And that was when she found out, you didn't actually knew where I live." I concluded Krystal's explanation as she nodded her head cutely. "Kyeopta."

I patted her head and stood up before making my way to the plastic bag which Krystal had handed over to me earlier. "So what's for dinner? Have you had yours?"

"I was actually planning to eat with you." Krystal stood up to join me at the counter as she took out the packed fried chicken and started preparing everything for me while I just observed everything with a smile.

As we chatted and enjoyed the dinner, my phone rang. Since both of my hands were stained with sauces, I gestured to Krystal to help me with it. I noticed the frown on her expression when she saw the screen before she slide the button and placed the phone near my ear.

"Yeoboseyo... Yes, speaking. Your message? Oh yah... My apologies. I had forgotten to reply to your message. I'm fine with the arrangement. Thank you for your assistance and sorry once again for not replying. Good night and have a good rest. I'll see you tomorrow."

Krystal took the phone away from my ear when she heard that the conversation had ended. Putting it on the table, she looked at me with a blank expression.

"Wae?" I asked since I knew that she had something in her mind.

"Who was that? Ms Jeon?" Krystal asked as I noticed a tint of jealousy appearing in her looks.

"Someone from office. She had messaged me earlier but I had forgotten to reply her. That's why she called." I answered with my poker face.

"She sounded like a pretty lady." Krystal's comment caused me to smirk and I had to stiffle my laughter.

"You could guess someone's appearance just by her voice? Woahh..." I pretended to be amazed but Krystal knew that I was teasing her.

"So was my guess correct?" I nodded my head to her question.

"She doesn't even look her age even though she's 7yrs older than me." I commented as Krystal suddenly folded her arms and glared at me.

"So you like older women who look young? Hhhmmm... I'm done with dinner."

Krystal rolled her eyes at me before she took her plate and brought it to the sink to wash it. Grabbing my plate and dumping the chicken bones into the box, I made my way to stand beside Krystal. She ignored my presence until I had to bump her shoulders lightly as she turned to face me.

"I prefer younger girls who gets jealous easily. Wait.. let me rephrase that. I prefer a young girl who gets jealous easily by the name of Jung Soo Jung." I chuckled at my own remarks.

"Stupid." That was Krystal's only remark as she took my plate and washed it for me while I washed my hands.

After clearing the leftovers from the table, Krystal followed me out to throw away the rubbish before I sent her back to her campus dorm. When we reached there, it was already almost coming to 10pm.

"Are you free tomorrow evening?" I asked as Krystal stood in front of me and I slowly removed the helmet for her.

"It's Wednesday tomorrow so I won't have classes after lunch. I should be free. Wae?" Krystal asked as she combed her hair with her fingers.

"Would you like to watch a movie with me?"

She tilted her head slightly while her eyes looked upwards as if she was thinking before Krystal nodded her head. She asked me about the time and place to meet.

"Since you don't have your car with you, I'll come over to fetch you at around 6pm. Once I'm done with work." I replied as Krystal nodded in agreement. "By the way, thank you for bringing dinner over tonight. I really appreciate the gesture."

"You're welcome. And please don't skip meals anymore. Don't forget to apply the cream that Halmeoni gave to you in the morning."

"Yes, Madam." I gave the salute gesture as Krystal rolled her eyes at me again before saying good night and asking me to ride safely home. "You take care too. I'll see you tomorrow. Good night, Princess."

Krystal's POV

I looked at my watch and saw that it was 10mins before 6pm. Eunjin had messaged me earlier that she had finished work and was making her way to the dorm to fetch me. Looking at the mirror to ensure that my outfit was fine, I walked out from my bedroom and saw Sulli and Luna sitting on the couch at the living room.

"Going on a date?" Luna asked as I nodded my head.

"Send our regards to Eunjin-unnie. It's been a while since we last saw her." Sulli added on.

"I'll do that. She's been busy lately. Taking over the company from her grandfather, who is still unconscious." I explained before saying my goodbye and made my way to wait for Eunjin at the lobby.

Will be 5mins late. Sorry for the delay. - Eunjin

I smiled as I typed a reply to Eunjin, telling her that I was okay with it. Sitting on the bench at the lobby, I started thinking of Eunjin. Ever since she stopped me from calling her unnie, I would usually call her with 'Yah' or 'Stupid'. I knew that it was rude but Eunjin seemed to not mind about it and even felt that it was a special nickname for her. Just thinking of her, could make me smile on my own.

"Krystal?"

I turned behind when I heard my name being called. My eyes widened when I saw Amber standing in front of the lift as she made her way towards me. I automatically stood up and put a distance between us.

"Why are you moving away from me?" Amber asked as she stopped when she noticed what I had did. "Are you afraid of me?"

"What do you expect, after watching you punching Eunjin in the face." I replied as I saw Amber smirking.

"Eunjin? She's no longer Eunjin-unnie to you?" Amber asked in a sarcastic tone. "Not an unnie but a lover now. So is she your girlfriend already?"

I continued to glare at Amber who was standing with an arrogant pose in front of me. Suddenly, her attitude made me feel annoyed. "What do you want, Am?"

"Nothing. Just wanted to chat with you. I'm guessing that you're going out since you're nicely dressed up." Amber continued to smirk as I rolled my eyes at her. "You used to hate going out with me especially on weekdays as you said that you have classes the next day. Was that just an excuse?"

"I don't hate goinng out with you. I just don't like it if your friends are around. I'm not familiar with them. Most of the time, you would ask me to hang out with you and your friends." I expressed myself to her.

"How do you expect to be familiar with them if you didn't have the intention to meet them in the first place. You're just being arrogant and selfish who thinks that my friends are not worth your time." Amber started her accusations.

"Don't you realise that you priortise your friends more than me? Just a phone call or a message from them and you would even leave me behind to join them. When I told you that I don't feel like following you, couldn't you have stayed with me instead?" I questioned her back as Amber seemed to be surprised.

"If I had did that, would you have accepted me as your girlfriend? If I had taken care of you better, you won't have rejected me, right?" Amber's tone of voice was soft like how she would usually talk to me.

"I admit that I had a big crush on you since the first time that I saw you. But I'm curious about something. Did you asked me out because Sulli told you about how I felt for you?" Finally, I asked her the question that had been lingering in my mind since I found out about it.

"Sulli did told me about your feelings but I asked you out because I sincerely wanted to get to know you better, It took me a few months before I asked you out after that message from Sulli. I wanted to make sure that I'm asking you out because I really like you and not because of the message." Amber answered sincerely.

"Thank you for your honest answer." I smiled at Amber, who suddenly took a step forward, causing me to move back against the wall.

"I sincerely liked you, Krystal. We should have been more honest to each other about our thoughts and feelings. If we had done that, I don't think that I would lose you. I admit my mistake. But couldn't you give me a second chance?" Amber pleaded.

"Am, I realised that my feelings for you have changed over the years. I used to imagine about the moment that you would ask me out but when you finally did it, surprisingly I didn't experince the feelings that I thought I would have. Maybe we're more suited to remain as friends." I explained as Amber started to shake her head.

"It was because of her, right?" Amber asked as she started to show signs of anger again. "I remembered that you and Eunjin-unnie had gotten to know each other by the time I asked you out for a date. But I don't remember seeing you being close to her then."

"We were not close at that time. I didn't even like her in the beginning because of the first impression that I had gotten of her when she bumped into me at the cafe and spoilt my favourite shirt." I explained as I thought back about the first time that I had met Eunjin.

"So how did you end up liking her when you guys had just known each other for a few months?" Amber's eyes were full of  disbelief as if that she could never imagine that happening.

"When I needed you by my side, she seemed to be there instead of you. I don't know her as well as I know you since we've been friends for almost 3yrs but you don't need a long time to like someone, right?"

"You don't really like her. You're just feeling indebted to her. If I was there for you when you needed me, you won't even have feelings for her. Am I right?"

Amber's question caused me to pause as I started thinking about it. Just when I was about to answer, a voice interrupted me.

"What's going on in here?"

I turned to my side and saw Eunjin standing at the entrance with an unreadable expression as I finally realised the close proximity between me and Amber. With me leaning against the wall and Amber, less than an arm's length away from me, it was not a sight that I had wanted Eunjin to see.

I quickly pushed Amber away and distance myself as Eunjin walked up to us.

Amber was smirking at her when Eunjin stood beside me. "Nothing. We're just having a chat."

"I hope the chat has ended because me and Krystal has a movie to catch."
