Chapter 97

Hard But Easy

I closed the thick file in front of me and let out a heavy long sigh. It was a proposal drafted by Uncle Park on measures that needs to be taken to salvage whatever that we could to recoup the losses for Hanjin Shipping. One of it was to start selling off some of our vessels to other shipping companies at a much lower price with lesser or almost to no profit at all. We had decided that maintaing the vessels would have cost us more expenses at the moment. Another measure was to downsize the company and also for the higher management to take a pay-cut, which I anticipated to be the most difficult measure to implement.

Leaning back into my chair, I clasped my hand and placed it above my head. I was about to close my eyes when I heard the sound of the door opening.

"Boss, there's someone looking for you."

I turned to my side as I saw one of the part-timers standing at the half-opened door. I straightened my back before telling him that I would go out in a while. Grabbing my phone, I noticed that there was a message. Since my phone was on silent mode when I was going through the proposal earlier, I had forgotten to check on it.

What did you had for lunch? - Krystal

I saw the time that the message was sent and it was about an hour ago. Typing a quick reply, I made my way out from the office to look for the person who had came to the workshop to look for me.

"Jihyun?"

The lady, who was leaning against one of the cars, looked up from her phone and smiled at me. "I like how you had decorated the interior of this workshop. It has a vintage feeling to it but the coolest thing has to be that." She pointed to the door where I had came out from, which by now was covered with the wall display of car rims. "Is that your office in there?"

"No. It's just a place for my staff and I to chill and relax. My office is upstairs on the second floor which you could access either from this door or through the cafe above. Anyway, what brought you here?" I asked but before Jihyun could reply, I suggested for us to talk it over at the cafe. "It's air-conditioned and I don't want your nice clothes to get dirty with all these grease."

We made our way up as I told Hyoyeon to prepare some drinks while Jihyun took a seat at one of the tables before I joined her.

"I went to the office to take the employees portfolio from Uncle Park. He told me that he had submitted the proposal, which both of us had dicussed together last week, for you to look through yesterday. Did you take a look at it?" Jihyun asked I nodded my head.

"I took the file from him yesterday but left it in the workshop. I had just finished looking through it about 5mins before you arrived."

"So, what's your opinion on it"

I was about to answer Jihyun's question when my phone rang. Seeing the name that appeared on my phone, Jihyun smiled and leaned back into the seat as I excused myself just at the same time as Hyoyeon, who had arrived with the drinks.

"Hi sweetheart."

"Why are you eating only sandwich for lunch and why did you take so long to reply my message?"

I chuckled after hearing Krystal's tone of voice as I could sense that she was sulking. I had already informed her that I had some documents from Uncle Park to look through earlier and would just grabbed whatever there was at the cafe.

"I forgot that my phone was on silent mode when I was looking through the documents earlier. Anyway, you called me at the right time. I want to inform you that Jihyun is here. She had just arrived about 10mins ago and before you have any funny ideas, she's here for work."

"Why can't I have funny ideas? Don't you know that I'm a funny person?" Krystal replied in a flat tone as I could imagine her rolling her eyes at me. "I shall not disturb you then since she's waiting for you. Will you be fetching me later though? If not, I can hitch a ride with Sica-Unnie."

"Don't worry. I will fetch you. We're suppose to have dinner with Harabeoji and Halmeoni, remember?" I heard a gasping sound as Krystal apologised quickly for almost forgetting about it while I just chuckled. "I'll see you later then."

Ending the call, I made my way back to the table and saw that Jihyun was scrolling through her phone.

"Sorry about that." I said as Jihyun replied that she was okay with it and understood. "So, where were we just now?"

Krystal's POV

I placed my phone on the table before folding my arms across my chest. A frown appeared on my head, along with a pout.

"Why does she still need to look for Eunjin? Shouldn't she be liasing more with Uncle Park about work? Eunjin is no longer actively a part of the company."

I started to grumble to myself before an incoming message sound was heard from my phone. Grabbing it and tapping the screen on my phone, I saw that it was a photo taken of Eunjin, who didn't seem to realise that her photo was taken. In the photo, she looked very serious with a frown on her face and her arms across her chest.

'Why does it seems that both of us had the same pose?' I thought to myself as I chuckled after reading the message that appeared below the photo.

Don't worry. I'm keeping them under my watch. - Hyoyeon

Feeling satisfied, I put my phone aside before continuing on my work and looking forward to meet Eunjin in two hours time.

************************

"Oh my god. What a coincidence. Out of so many malls in Seoul and we are destined to bump into each other." An exaggerrated laughter was heard before it stopped. "Is that your car, Krystal? Wow, you must be doing very well right now. I know that it is not cheap."

Krystal rolled her eyes at the guy in front of her before letting out a sigh. "Yes. This is my car. Yes. I'm doing well right now. So, can you excuse me?" Krystal pointed to Jongin who was leaning against her car.

"Hey, what's the rush? It's been a while since we met. Why don't we go and grab some coffee? Maybe do a little catching up." Jongin tried to put on a pitiful look.

"I'm sorry but I need to fetch my fiancee so if you could move your away, I'm on a tight schedule."

Krystal replied and climbed into her car before putting on her seatbelt. Jongin was still in the same pose as Krystal started her car engine. Seeing that he was not even moving and was obviously teasing her while smiling away, Krystal slammed the horn which shocked him. The moment Jongin jumped to the side, Krystal drove off.

"What the hell?" Jongin grumbled before he quickly made his way to his own car. "You are not getting away from this, Krystal."

Meanwhile, at the workshop, two figures were fighting it out in front of the arcade box while another one was just laughing as she watched on.

"Yes, yes, yes... Take my final blow. And the winner is.... Me!!" Taeyeon clapped her hands and meronged at Sooyoung who was pouting. "I'm going to tell Eunjin about this."

"Yah...." Sooyoung stopped Taeyeon from leaving the resting area and gave her puppy eyes. "One more game."

"Nope. That was already the 3rd game that I won straight. How many more games do you need to lose to give up?" Taeyeon shook her head and her eyes widened when Sooyoung showed her 10 fingers at her. "What? I thought Yuri was bad at games but you are worse."

"At least, I could win easily against Yuri. So that makes her bottom of the pack."

The sound of laughter stopped as both Taeyeon and Sooyoung turned to look at Yoona who had stood up with her hands on her hips. Threatening to tell Yuri about what she said, Sooyoung had to run after Yoona who had made her way out of the room with Taeyeon following suit.

Eunjin's POV

I was just about to roll out from under the car when I heard the sound of rushed footsteps coming nearer and the sound of bickering. Deciding to stay a little longer underneath instead, I listened to what was being said.

"But I was telling the truth. Remember when we were at Twin Towers, I had defeated her a lot of times so that means I'm better than her."

"Even so, you shouldn't make her sound so bad. She is still my unnie and of course, I need to defend her." Yoona replied back in a firm tone as it suddenly became silent.

"Yoona, stop teasing her. She's already on the verge of crying." Taeyeon's voice was heard before Yoona's laughter filled the atmosphere.

"Aigoo, my baby Soo is pouting so much." Yoona placed her hands at Sooyoung's cheeks before pinching them lightly. "It's so fun to tease you."

I chuckled to myself before rolling out from under the car and stood up. "So, who won?"

Taeyeon quickly raised up her hand as I nodded my head and was about to close the hood of the car that I was repairing when I heard Taeyeon's comment.

"Eunjin, did you offend Krystal in any way?" She asked as I shook my head. "She looks like she's planning to murder someone."

I turned around and saw Krystal making her way into the workshop with a very frustrated expression. I was about to question her when I saw the person who seemed to be running after her, entering just slightly behind her.

"Hey, is everything okay?" I asked the moment Krystal stood beside me and faced Jongin who seemed to have stopped moving near the workshop entrance. If not because of my dirty hands and clothes, I would have hugged her the moment she walked in but all I could do was to look at her with a comforting smile.

"Obviously not." Krystal's tone of voice clearly showed that she was upset but it was not towards me. "Someone followed me all the way from the mall and kept asking me to treat him to coffee ever since I parked the car at the roadside."

I was about to say something when I heard a sinister laughter.

"Oh man... Really? A workshop? A mechanic? Don't tell me the car that you parked in front of my building while waiting for Krystal a few months ago, is one of those cars that you repaired? Are you even allowed to drive someone's else car? Does the owner knows about that?"

Jongin continued laughing out loud while bombarding us with questions after questions. I could sense Krystal tensing up beside me and I badly wanted to hold her to calm her down but I couldn't because of the grease on me. Luckily, Yoona came to my rescue.

"Jongin, am I right?" Yoona asked as Jongin suddenly shifted his attention. "You said you wanted to have coffee. Why don't you come up to my cafe upstairs to enjoy that?"

"Are you like Krystal's sister also?" Jongin asked as Yoona shook her head. "Well, I might consider having a cup of coffee in that air-conditioned cafe if Krystal accompanies me. Unless she wants to spend her time waiting for her greasy fiancee in this smelly workshop."

Krystal was about to rebutt when I saw Yoona linking her arms with her. "Krystal and I will accompany you to the cafe."

I frowned a little at Yoona's suggestion but I saw a smirk on Sooyoung's face which caused me to be more confused. Yoona whispered something to Krystal who nodded her head slightly, before the 3 of them made their way up to the cafe.

"What was that about?" Taeyeon literally took the words out of my mouth as Sooyoung walked up to us and placed her arms on our shoulders.

"Leave it to Yoona. She knows what she's doing, In the meantime, you need to shower and change." Sooyoung pointed at me while Taeyeon just nodded her head.

************************

"Are you sure he's not going to take any actions against you or the cafe?" I asked as I placed the cans of beer on the table before making my way to sit beside Krystal.

"Of course. He has no solid proof to push the blame on us. Besides, he can't complain or sue us because he's the only one affected." Yoona smirked while Sooyoung just nodded her head, "Trust me. Hyoyeon is good with her drinks and let's just say that Jongin is not the first person that we needed to get rid of from our line of service."

"Serves him right for acting that way towards Krystal and Eunjin. If Yuri and I were there earlier, he would have receive a earful from us." Jessica gritted her teeth as Yuri just her back to calm her down.

The 6 of us were hanging out at my house after we left the workshop about an hour ago. Earlier on, after I was done with my shower at the workshop, I was preparing myself to confront Jongin but I was surprised when I saw only Sooyoung, Yoona, Krystal and Taeyeon at one of table in the cafe. I was even more surprised when they told me that Jongin had left in a rush. No one wanted to explain further so I decided to just ignore the questions in my head.

Shortly after, Sooyoung and Yoona had requested to hitch a ride when Krystal and I decided to go home. Taeyeon, who was currently working with me at the workshop, would be staying behind to close it up while Hyoyeon would do so for the cafe. It was not until the four of us were in the car, that Yoona finally told me what happened.

It seems that while I was showering, Yoona had told Hyoyeon to prepare their special coffee for Jongin, which eventually affected his bowel movement. From what Krystal told me, it took only about 15mins for the effect to kick in.

"He was literally sweating like a burst pipe, trying to control his agony because Yoona-unnie told him that our restroom was under repair. Usually, we allow our customers to use the staff restroom if there's an emergency but because Eunjin was currently using it, Yoona-unnie told him that he needed to wait. After another 10mins, he excused himself." Krystal repeated what she told me earlier in the car to Jessica and Yuri.

Yuri had borrowed my Maserati to bring Jessica out for the day and would be dropping by my house to return the car. So I invited Yoona and Sooyoung over to my place instead of dropping them off at the mall so that we could eat dinner together. While waiting for the chicken and tteobokki to arrive, Yoona and Krystal were busy repeating what they said in the car to Jessica and Yuri.

"By the way, who got to use Eunjin's car next?" Yuri asked as Sooyoung pouted while Yoona answered with a slight chuckle. "You lost to Taeyeon? 3 times straight? Wow.. Doesn't that makes me bottom of the pack?"

"That's what Sooyoung said," I replied nonchalantly as Sooyoung tried to cover my mouth.

"Sica... I told you we need to get that arcade box. I need to practice hard to at least beat Sooyoung." Yuri grumbled as Jessica just rolled her eyes at her. "Taeyeon must be practicing hard at the workshop."

"She only plays at it when she's free, which is rarely. Business is catching up. We've been seeing an increase in the number of cars coming to our workshop to get repairs done and the decals that Taeyeon created." I replied as Yuri just nodded her head." Anyway, how's the new workplace? Everything okay?"

"Everything's good. Thanks to Jihyun, who put in a good word for me, it seems that the company trusted her a lot. Which indirectly increased their trust in my capabilities but I'm not taking anything for granted so I'm still going to prove my worth." Yuri answered with a lot of confidence as I showed her a thumbs up.

We continued chatting and drinking for a little more before everyone decided to make their way home.

Krystal's POV

I flipped through the magazine but nothing seems to interest me as I heard the sound of gargling stopped. A minute after, Eunjin appeared from the toilet after brushing her teeth. She grinned while looking at me as if trying to show her perfectly cleaned teeth.

"Anything interesting?"

I must have looked confused when she pointed at the magazine in my hand. "Oh, nothing interesting."

Eunjin chuckled before she climbed on bed and sat beside me.

"I'm going to Head Office tomorrow to meet Uncle Park, then I will go over and fetch you for lunch before heading to the workshop. Is that okay with you?"

I frowned a little, tilting my head to the side as I tried to remember if I had any lunch appointment tomorrow. I was about to nod my head when an incoming sound was heard from my phone. Grabbing it from the side table, I tapped at the message.

Don't forget our lunch appointment tomorrow. P/s: I suspect that you will forget which is why I'm sending you this reminder. - Luna

"I almost forgot about my lunch appointment with Luna." I showed the message to Eunjin who chuckled. "Why don't you treat Uncle Park for lunch instead? I believe your meetings with him will usually be long and ends almost around lunch time."

"Well, I'm not sure if he has any lunch plans tomorrow but I'll try my luck. If he's not free, I'll just make my way to the workshop and see whoever is available to accompany this poor soul for lunch." Eunjin put her right hand on her chest and tried to dramatise her actions, which received a small smack from me to her shoulder.

"Taeyeon-unnie will be there and so will the other unnies. You won't be alone." I meronged at her as she continued to pout for a while before breaking into a smile.  "By the way, why do you need to meet Uncle Park? Is everything okay?"

"Everything's fine. I just need to sign some documents and discuss some matters with regards to the transition of our employees to other companies. I'm just checking if our former employees are settling in at their new workplaces." Eunjin replied as she changed her sitting position to a lying down position.

"Those like Yuri-unnie?" I asked as Eunjin nodded her head. "So your company has successfully downsized?"

"Well, I can't say that it was 100% successful as we did encounter some resistance but thanks to Uncle Park and Jihyun, we managed to achieve what we intended to do."

"Jihyun seems to be able to help you a lot in many things." I said my thoughts out but almost as if it was a half-whisper. "I wish I could...."

"She's helping the company, not me. Furthermore, she's gaining some benefit from it too. It's all business. Sweetheart, we've talked about this before, remember? What's wrong?"

I noticed Eunjin letting out a small sigh and she was about to sit up again when I stopped her.

"You don't have to get up. I'm fine." I noticed that Eunjin had a look that said that she didn't believe me. "Really. I am. We should get some rest."

************************

"Eunjin, I think I need to go to the restroom. I'll wait for you outside."

I nodded my head to Taeyeon as I took the bill from the cashier. Just as I was about to sign, I heard Taeyeon talking to someone.

"Oh, hi Jihyun. What a surprise. Sorry, I wish I could talk longer but I really needed to go to the restroom. I'll see you later okay."

After signing the bill, I looked up to see Taeyeon rushing off while waving her hand at Jihyun who was standing at the entrance of the restaurant, that Taeyeon and I had our lunch. Making my way towards her, I noticed that she was talking to a lady whom I recognised was her secretary. As I walked past her secretary, the lady bowed her head at me before making her way to one of the table inside.

"Late lunch?" I asked the moment I stood close to Jihyun.

"Yes. I had a meeting earlier which got dragged longer that expected. My secretary recommended this place and since I was already too hungry, I just agreed to her suggestion. I didn't expect to see you and Taeyeon here though." She chuckled a little and smiled.

"This place is nice. You should try their sashimi. It's really good. Taeyeon's stomach must be bursting right now since she ate quite a lot." I laughed at my own joke as Jihyun continued to chuckle.

We chatted for a while, laughing at certain topics when my phone rang. Seeing Krystal's name displayed on the screen, Jihyun stopped laughing and distanced herself a little to give me some space.

"Hi sweetheart... Me?I'm at the mall. I... I thought I told you I was going out for lunch with Taeyeon earlier... What do you mean by that?... Mwo?... Yah, what's that even suppose to mean?.."

I was surprised when she hung up the call on me as I turned to look at Jihyun. She had a confused expression and I wasn't sure if she overheard the phone conversation earlier but I could feel my face burning up.

"Are you okay? You looked a little.. flustered." Jihyun asked and I was about to answer her when I heard my name being called.

"Han Eunjin."

Krystal's POV

"I'm seriously proud of Sulli for sticking to her decisions to go abroad. She will have a lot more opportunities overseas rather than staying here in Seoul."

I nodded my head in agreement to what Luna said as we continued walking. Both of us had just finished our lunch and were just wandering around the mall while talking about Sulli who was miles away from us at the moment.

"But I still miss having her around. We should plan a gathering soon. Either here or there. Whichever." I suggested as Luna agreed.

We were about to enter a shop when Luna suddenly grabbed my arm, causing me to stop walking.

"Isn't that Eunjin?" Luna asked as I tried to look at where she was pointing. "In front of that restaurant. Talking to that lady in red. Wait, is that the CEO? Didn't Eunjin say she was lunching with Taeyeon-unnie?"

The moment I heard the word 'CEO', I knew who Luna was referring to as my eyes stopped at two figures who seemed to be chatting. I didn't know why but I was suddenly filled with anger at the sight of them laughing together.

Taking out my phone, I dialed Eunjin's number.

"Hi Sweetheart..."

"Where are you know?" I didn't even bother to reply to her greeting.

"Me? I'm at the mall. I.."

"What are you doing there?" I interrupted her sentence with another question.

"I thought I told you that I was going out for lunch with Taeyeon earlier.."

"Are you sure it's with Taeyeon-unnie?" I continued to stare at the two figures from a distance.

"What do you mean by that?"

"Since when did you start learning to lie to me?" Another question shoot out from my mouth without me thinking it through.

"Mwo?" There was a change in Eunjin's tone of voice.

"You don't have to go to the extend of lying to me. I would be happier if you just told me the truth." I tried to control my tears but was surprised when Eunjin sounded angry as she replied.

"Yah, what's that even suppose to mean?"

I decided to end the call and wanted to walk away when Luna pulled my hand.

"Is she cheating on you with that CEO? I'm not going to let you just walk away like that. You need to confront them."

"Luna, stop. It's okay. Maybe it's not what we think it is." I tried to wipe away the tears but Luna shook her head and continued to pull me forward.

"It's not okay if you are crying like this."

By then, we were getting closer to where Eunjin was and I was surprised when Luna shouted out Eunjin's name.
