Hard But Easy

Walking into my small apartment that I had been staying for the past 2 years, I placed my helmet on the table top before dropping my on the couch. Looking up to the ceiling, I couldn't control the tears that flowed down my cheeks. I've been holding back my tears since I met Yuri earlier. Being able to meet the Kwon siblings and also to make friends in just a day, I couldn't express the emotions that was running through my whole body system. The only thing I could do at the moment was just to cry.

It was like a miracle to me. Meeting the Kwon siblings whom I've missed a lot. They were the ones that I was ever close to since young and after my parents passed away, we lost contact. Sooyoung's question lingered in my head as I remembered the answer that I gave.

(Flashbacks)

"Why didn't you go out and look for them?"

I looked at Sooyoung's finger which was pointed at the Kwon siblings. I smiled a little  before taking a deep breathe.

"I couldn't. I was only 14yrs old when I came back to Seoul. I had no money and no place to stay so I depended a lot on Harabeoji and Halmeoni. Knowing how strained my relationship with my Harabeoji, I didn't dare to do anything against what he had planned for me. Neither do I have the courage to request anything from him nor trouble my Halmeoni. So I spent most of my time concentrating on my studies until I finished my masters." I explained as I noticed that Yuri had that disbelief expression once again.

Everyone seemed to just nod their heads along with my story except for Yuri who was looking straight into my eyes.

'She knows that I'm hiding something.' That was the thought that appeared on my mind but lucky for me, the other girls started to talk about random matters.

Back in my room, I wiped my tears aside and took a deep breathe.

"Mianhae, Yuri-ah. I didn't mean to hide things from you."

I mumbled to myself as my eyes wandered to my watch. Seeing that it was almost 11pm, I decided to take a shower. Just when I was about to stand up, my phone beeped to indicate an incoming message.

Hey Eunjin,

Drop by the workshop at 8am tomorrow and we can discuss your contract details. You've proven yourself for the past 4 days.

p/s: I'm not employing you because of Yuri or out of pity. It's a waste if I don't employ such a talented worker.

From: Sunny aka your new cute boss

I smiled to myself as I placed back the phone on the table before making my way to the bathroom.

"Yah, Jung Soo Jung!! Stop disturbing my sleep."

"But unnie... It's the weekend. You promise to bring me out."

Krystal pouted as she sat down at the edge of her sister's bed. Her one and only elder sister, Jessica, was still wrapped up under her blanket with her sleep eye mask still on.

"Wake me up later. Maybe around noon. I'm still sleepy, Soojung-ah." Jessica grumbled under her blanket as she tried to hug her pillow tighter.

"It's already 2pm, Unnie. Unless you want me to wake you up tomorrow at noon." Krystal replied with a flat tone as Jessica sat up straight.

Krystal laughed at Jessica's dishevelled hair as her sister glared at her. Using her toe to poke the sides of Krystal, Jessica started to grin as she watched how Krystal was trying to avoid her legs but soon, she started to regret her actions when Krystal grabbed her feet and started tickling her.

"YAH!!! Stop it. It's ticklish." Jessica shouted out loud as Krystal dropped her leg and meronged at her.

"I'm hungry." Krystal pouted as Jessica finally gave in to her little sister.

"Fine. Give me a minute to get ready." Jessica flipped her blanket aside and made her way slowly to the bathroom.

"Give you 2hrs, you mean?" Krystal folded her arms and pretended to frown as Jessica rolled her eyes at her.

Exactly 2hrs later, both sisters drove out from their house garage to the nearest shopping mall. They headed for a Korean restaurant since both of them had not eaten since morning. After their late lunch, Jessica and Krystal wandered around the mall doing their most favourite past time which was shopping.

"How's school so far?" Jessica asked while browsing through the clothes in the boutique.

"As usual. Boring." Krystal replied in a lazy tone. "Unnie, what do you think of these?"

Jessica turned around to see the black top that Krystal was holding. Shaking her head, she grabbed something before walking towards her sister.

"Don't you have other colors to choose from, Soojung? It's always either black, grey or white. You should wear something like this." Jessica pulled out the top that she's been hiding behind her back as Krystal's eyes widened.

"Oh my god!! Eeewww.. Not pink." Krystal pushed the top away from her as her sister giggled at her reaction.

"Tiffany would have loved this." Jessica said as her sentence caught Krystal's attention.

"When will Fany-unnie be joining us?" Krystal asked as Jessica shrugged her shoulders.

"She's still trying to convince her dad about coming to Seoul. But I think she should be coming soon. Knowing how stubborn that girl is, nothing is going to stop her from doing something she's passionate about." Jessica replied.

"What position will she be holding in your company?" Krystal asked as she walked towards the fitting room with Jessica behind her.

"Head of Fashion Designer Team. I've kept it vacant since I started the company 3 months ago." Jessica answered Krystal's question as the girl disappeared behind the fitting room door. "Yah!! Didn't I tell you to get other colors for that top?"

It was almost 8pm when the Jung sisters entered the cafe as Krystal's eyes roamed around the area. When she found what she was looking for, a smile appeared on her face as she pulled her sister to an empty table.

"What's with that stupid smile?" Jessica asked as Krystal looked back at her with a poker face.

"Nothing." Came the short reply from the younger girl.

Jessica was about to push for answers when someone came to their table. Looking up, she saw one of the staff standing by their table while holding on to the menu.

"Hi Krystal. I didn't expect to see you here." Amber grinned as Krystal gave a shy smile. "I presume that this is your sister since she's as beautiful as you?"

Krystal just nodded her head as Amber handed them the menu before introducing herself to Jessica.

"I'll come back to get your orders once you're ready. Don't have to worry. There's no cucumber in our menu for this month." Amber smirked as she winked at Krystal before walking away.

"Did she just try to flirt with you?" Jessica, who was giving Krystal the cold glare, asked as she folded her arms.

"She's not. It's just her being friendly. She's my classmate." Krystal ignored her sister's cold stare since she was used to it. "She brought me here to eat before. The food is good."

"Brought you here? Just the two of you?" Jessica asked again.

"Sulli and Luna were here too. We had just finished watching Amber playing basketball when she invited us to have dinner together. Ailee-unnie was the one who drove us here." Krystal said as she explained that Ailee was their senior and a common friend.

The both of them became quiet as they were engrossed in looking through the food selections. The silence continued even after Amber came over to take their orders.

"Do you like her?" Jessica was the one to break the silence before taking a sip from the drink that had just been sent to their table.

"Who?" Krystal asked, looking lost since she was daydreaming.

"Your boyish-looking, overly-friendly and flirtatious friend. Ms Amber." Jessica emphasized the name as Krystal widened her eyes as she was afraid that Amber might be around them. "Don't worry. I just saw your friend walking to the kitchen. So, do you?"

Krystal looked at her sister as both of them stared at each other before shrugging her shoulders. "I don't know. Maybe. I'm not really sure about my feelings for her but she's grabbed my attention since our freshmen year."

"Maybe because of her character. I've only been in here for like 30mins and I saw how hyper she is throughout that period. It's difficult not to give attention to someone like her." Jessica commented as she suddenly smiled towards Amber, who appeared with their food.

"Enjoy your meal. Call me if there's anything else you need." Amber smiled again before walking away.

Krystal could only nod her head before turning to the food in front of her as her sister shook her head. They started to enjoy their orders and were almost done when Jessica suddenly tapped her finger on the table, causing Krystal to look at her.

"I can see that you like her more than a friend." Jessica said as both sisters placed their fork down. "I don't know her that well but please be careful. I don't want you to get hurt."

Krystal smiled as she saw the concerned look in her sister's eyes. "I will. Don't worry, I won't let anyone hurt me. Even if they do, they will have to face HellSica."

Jessica glared at her sister before both of them ended up giggling, making their payment and walking out of the cafe.

************************

An excited looking girl was waving her hands furiously when she saw the person she was looking for. Pushing her trolley of luggages, she continued smiling as she made her way to the two girls who were waiting for her. The moment she was nearer, she gave one of them a tight hug.

"Gosh, Tiff. Why are you alway so hyper?" Jessica mumbled before Tiffany released her arms around her.

"Oh my god, Krys. You've grown so much taller. Even taller than your sister." Tiffany commented as Krystal smiled shyly at her.

"Yah! Why don't you compare her to yourself? She's taller than you too and I'm even taller than you." Jessica smacked Tiffany's shoulder lightly.

"Only 1cm of difference, Jung Jessica. How long are you going to use that against me?" Tiffany pouted a little before breaking out into another eye-smile.

"For as long as I can." Jessica answered nonchalantly. "Come on. Let's go back. Mom and Dad are waiting for us."

Two hours were spent at the Jungs house before Tiffany followed Jessica who was going to send her younger sister back to the campus dorm.

"You'll be graduating next year, right?" Tiffany turned her head slightly to the back where Krystal was seated as the girl nodded her head to Tiffany's question.

"Fany-unnie, how did you manage to convince your dad about coming to Seoul? I asked Sica-unnie two weeks ago, on when will you becoming and she said that you were in the midst of changing your dad's mind." Krystal asked as Tiffany grinned at her.

"Well, I told him that no matter if he agrees to it or not, I'm still going to fly to Seoul. I told him that it's always been a dream of mine to work in a fashion company. Since Jessi had already offered me a place, I should not let go of the opportunity. It took him a week to finally accept my decision." Tiffany explained as the car slowed down in front of the university gates.

"I offered you the job because I know that you'll do well." Jessica commented as Tiffany thanked her for the compliment. "Take care, Krystal. Don't skip meals and rest well."

"Bye Sica-unnie. Bye Fany-unnie." Krystal waved at both her unnies before climbing out of the car.

"I wish I had a dongsaeng." Tiffany said as she waved her hand at Krystal until the girl disappeared behind the school walls. "Sadly, I'm the dongsaeng in the family and the most fashionable one."

Jessica rolled her eyes at Tiffany, who had started laughing at her own remarks. "Let's go back to my apartment. I'm feeling sleepy."

"You're not staying with your parents?" Tiffany was surprised since she was not aware of it. "Are you living with your boyfriend or is it a girlfriend now?"

A grunting sound was heard when Jessica punched Tiffany's shoulder. "I don't have a boyfriend and I'm straight. Unlike you. So no girlfriend either. I just started living by myself after my company was in operation. The apartment is nearer to my office."

"A girlfriend is way much better. She will enjoy shopping as much as you do. Anyway, nearer to office, huh? Which means you'll need lesser time to get ready to work, giving you more time to sleep." Tiffany added on as Jessica nodded her head and grin at Tiffany. "Lazy bum."

Just as Tiffany ended her remarks, the car came to a stop at the traffic light. Jessica was about to drive off after the lights turned green when white smoke came out from the hood, causing panic in the two girls.

"Oh my god. What's happening to the car? How come there's smoke coming out from it?" Tiffany asked as Jessica shrugged her shoulders.

Lucky for them, the road was quite empty and there was not much traffic at the moment. Jessica tried to jump start her car but it didn't seem to work. Both girls then walked out from the car to take a look at the car's engine.

"Do you know anything about cars?" Jessica asked as Tiffany shook her head, answering that she only knew how to drive. "I'm not that good either. Let me give Dad a call."

After about 20mins on the phone with her Dad, Jessica informed Tiffany that her Dad had arranged for a tow truck to bring the car to the nearest available workshop. Since it'll take some time for the two truck to arrive, both girls decided to wait in the car.

"What did Uncle Jung say? About the smoke coming out." Tiffany asked as Jessica switched off her engine and scrolled down the windows of her car.

"Most probably a leakage or something." Jessica sighed. "Looks like I need to get a new car."

"You've been using this car since you passed your driving lessons 7yrs ago, right?" Tiffany asked as Jessica nodded her head. "I guess you really do need a new car. Maybe we can go car shopping together. After you give me my first pay."

"Your first pay? Are you expecting me to offer you a salary that amounts to the price of a car?" Jessica's eyes widened as Tiffany gave her a totoro smile. "Dream on, Hwang Miyoung."

Tiffany pouted and was about to argue back when a knock was heard on Jessica's window. An elder man had arrived with his tow truck as the girls continued to stay inside while he towed the car away.

************************

"Eunjin-ah, I'm going to the bathroom for a while." Taeyeon informed me as I nodded my head before turning my attention back to the engine that was in front of me.

While turning and adjusting some of the engine parts, a loud horn was heard before my name was called out as I turned around.

"Eunjin-ah, can you help me to take a look at this car? The owner is inside. Maybe you can check with her." Uncle Park informed me as I nodded my head while he lowered the car down.

By the time I reached the car, two ladies had exited from it and were just waiting for me to walk up to them.

"Hi, my name is Eunjin and I'm a mechanic here. May I know what happened to the car?" I asked politely before walking to the front to open the hood, where I had noticed some white smoke coming out.

The lady in blonde hair started to narrate to me what happened earlier as I listened attentively. She had also informed me her name and that she was the owner of the car which she's been using for the past seven years.

"I'll take a look at your car first, Ms Jessica. Meanwhile, would you like to wait at our waiting area?" I asked as I showed them a corner of the workshop where there was a glass door. "There's aircon inside so it'll be much more comfortable for both of you. I'll inform you once I'm done inspecting the car."

The moment Jessica heard the word 'aircon', she pulled her friend to the area where I had pointed to. After they walked away, I turned back my attention back to the car in front of me. Looking at the engine for the next 10mins, I was already able to find the reason as to why the car had broken down.

I was about to push down the car's hood when I was startled by Taeyeon who had ran up to me, looking all flustered.

"Yah!! What's wrong with you?" I asked as I closed the car hood.

"I saw.. I saw... I saw..." Taeyeon kept repeating her words as I flicked her forehead. "Yah!!! That's painful."

"Mianhae. I was just trying to stop you from being a broken record." I grinned as Taeyeon rubbed her forehead.

"You do realise that I'm still older than you, right? You're not allowed to flick my head." Taeyeon pointed a finger at me as I kept blinking my eyes at her.

"I'm sorry. I.. I.. I didn't mean.. to go overboard with my actions. " I quickly apologised before I heard a laughter from Taeyeon.

"You look funny when you panic." Taeyeon said as I squinted my eyes at her to show my annoyance at her teasing. "By the way, I saw an angel when I left the bathroom earlier. She was at the waiting area."

"An angel?" I asked as I made my way to a corner of the workshop to grab a drink from the water dispenser.

"I think I'm in love." Taeyeon suddenly said, causing me to spit out the water that I was drinking, directly at her face. I was totally shocked with her sudden confession as both of us looked at each other in awkwardness.

"You're in love?" I repeated her words as Taeyeon nodded her head while taking a cloth to clean her face. "Really?"

Ever since I've been working at the workshop for the past one month, I've heard a lot of stories from the other girls about Taeyeon. It seemed that Taeyeon was the type of girl who preferred to stay at home during her free time. She's not the type who socialise much and would avoid parties or functions unless she was dragged to it by her friends. But even so, Taeyeon seems to have a lot of admirers. Without trying to do anything, Taeyeon was able to attract attention of others, making her quite popular especially amongst girls. She's got the aura to charm even without her realising it.

"Have you introduce yourself to her?" I asked her as I saw Taeyeon's eyes widened.

"Are you crazy? How am I suppose to do that?" Taeyeon looked at me as if I had just told her to do something crazy.

"Wait. Which girl are you referring to, since there are two of them?" I asked as I told her that the one with blonde hair was Jessica. "She's the owner of that car."

I pointed to Jessica's car which was parked right outside of the workshop.

"It's not the blonde hair. The other one with black hair. The one with the eye-smile." Taeyeon grinned dorkily before she turned to look at Jessica's car. "By the way, what's wrong with the car?"

"Cylinder head cracked. I presume it's from overheating. She's been using that car for the past 7yrs. I might have to suggest to her to get a new car instead." I explained as Taeyeon nodded her head. "Follow me. I need to explain to Ms Jessica about the engine's condition."

"It's okay.. I'll just.. just stay here. I need to finish up that car." Taeyeon pointed to the car which I was inspecting earlier.

"That's mine and it's almost done, anyway. No more excuses. Follow me." I said as I hooked my finger at the corner of her collar and pulled her along.

I knocked on the glass door before pushing it as Jessica and her friend turned around to face me. I released my finger from Taeyeon's collar and I smiled at the two ladies who were seated at the round table while browsing through some magazines on the table.

"Ms Jessica, is it okay if you follow me to your car so that I can explain the problem in detail?" I said as Jessica nodded her head before she stood up along with her friend. "Maybe your friend here, Ms....?"

"Tiffany. My name is Tiffany, Eunjin-ssi." The girl smiled at me as she stretched out her hand for a handshake.

After shaking her hands, I introduced Taeyeon to Tiffany and Jessica since that short girl seemed to have lost her voice after we walked in. I suggested for Tiffany to just wait at the waiting area since the explanation won't take long. I almost giggled when I saw Taeyeon's eyes widened a little when I said that she would be in the waiting area to keep Tiffany company.

"Don't worry. I won't take long. Furthermore, you can ask Taeyeon any questions about cars since she's very knowledgeable about them." I said as I bowed a little before making my way out from the waiting area as Jessica followed suit.

"Is it that bad?" Jessica asked as we made our way to her car.

"It's not really that bad, Ms Jessica. But repairing it might be costly." I replied, before opening the car's hood and pointed to the affected engine part. "The cylinder head had cracked. Can I just ask you something? How often do you go for car maintenance?"

Jessica looked at me and I saw an awkward smile from her. Understanding her gesture, I pushed down the hood before turning back to face her.

"May I suggest something?" I asked as Jessica nodded her head. "Get a new car. I manage to check through the other parts of the engine and I have to say that it's about time for you to change a new car. But if you really love this car, I can also repair it for you. I think this car still has about one or two years in it."

Jessica looked at me with a blank expression and I almost thought that she was sleeping with her eyes opened until she blinked.

"Actually, I did thought of getting a new car before my car was brought here. This car has been with me since I passed my drving license. By the way, do you have any recommendation for a good car?" Jessica suddenly asked me as I gestured at her to walk back to the waiting area.

"You could ask my friend, Taeyeon, for recommendation." I said as I pushed open the door and Taeyeon looked at us since she heard me mentioning her name.

"In that case, help me to repair my car and also recommend a new one for me. I might want to give my old car to my little sister, once she pass her driving test." Jessica explained further. "At least if she wrecks that car, it won't really caused so much heartache."

I chuckled at her remarks as I brought Jessica to Chorong's counter to settle the documentation needed while my eyes were observing the interaction between Taeyeon and Tiffany.

'That stupid girl doesn't even know that Tiffany was practically swooning over her.' I thought to myself.
