Chapter 52

Hard But Easy

"Does this look familiar?"

I placed the file on my table as Yuri looked down and blinked her eyes rapidly. I could see that a lot of things was going through her mind and saw how she stared at the name on the front page of the file. I expected her to admit that it was her work but to my surprise, she shook her head.

"I've never seen it before."

I was stunned for a moment since I didn't expect Yuri to not acknowledge her hard work.

'Why is she lying to me?' I thought to myself as a frowned appeared on my face.

Sensing the silence from me, Yuri who had been staring at the file since I showed it to her, looked up and saw the look in my eyes. Letting out a sigh, Yuri leaned back  into the chair when she finally realised it.

"How did you know?" She asked as I just arched my eyebrow at her with a serious expression on my face. "How did you know that this file belongs to me?"

"I have my resources." I replied while putting both my elbows on the table top and clasped my fingers together. "Why did you have to lie to me?"

"I... I'm not sure. There's a possibility that Mr Choo took my idea and improvised it to be better so I didn't want to admit that it's mine." Yuri tried to find an excuse for her actions earlier.

"In that case, have a look at the project inside. See if you can spot anything different from the one that you had proposed to him." I pushed the file towards her.

Yuri took the file and flipped through the pages. She tried to hide her expression but I was still able to notice how surprised she was. As she came to the last page, Yuri took a deep sigh and placed the file on the table.

"He told me that it was not a good idea and it's just going to be a waste of time for him to present it to the upper management. I didn't expect this at all." Yuri finally let out her thoughts as she pushed back the file to me. "It seemed like the only think he did to this file was to replace my name with his."

"That was what I thought so too. So do you acknowledge that this is indeed your proposal?" I asked as Yuri nodded her head slowly. "Good. Now I need you to do something for me. This is what I plan to do."

A few hours later, I walked into Mr Song's office as he welcomed me in. I had informed him earlier that I was intrigued with the new proposal that he had submitted to me and would like to speak to the person who had came up with it.

Mr Choo was already seated on one of the chair when I arrived as he stood up and bowed his head to me. Mr Song gave his seat to me as he took a seat beside Mr Choo.

"Mr Song informed me that you were the one who had submitted this proposal to him. Am I right?" I took out the file as Mr Choo nodded his head. "I'm impressed with this proposal and if this proposal really goes through, it'll save the company a lot of money which is great. You will be applauded for your keen foresight and obviously the company will show it's appreciation for your hard work."

I saw the smile on Mr Choo's widened as he started to sit more upright, trying to show that he was proud of himself. Only God knows how much I was boiling inside to see how shamelessly he was acting in front of me.

"But before this proposal could go ahead, I have a few questions with regards to the proposal. Is it okay if you help me by elaborating more about your idea as I ask the following questions?"

I saw Mr Choo fidgeting a little by now as he started to look at Mr Song. He nodded his head nervously as I started to shoot him questions after questions with regards to the proposal. It was obvious that the old man was not that well-verse about the whole matter. He blinked his eyes a lot of times and looked lost with whatever that I was asking.

I tried to hide my smirk when I saw how clueless he was. Even Mr Song looked confused with Mr Choo's state as he looked unsure about his own work. He kept looking at Mr Song for help but the young man couldn't do anything since he had not read through the proposal before handing it over to me.

The questions that I had been asking Mr Choo was given to me with the help of Yuri. When I met her earlier and received her confirmation about her work, both of us had sat down together to go through the proposal. We looked for any pros and cons of the proposal and since Yuri was the one who came up with it, she was able to solve any problems that I had thrown at her.

But right now, it was obvious that Mr Choo didn't even understand the principle of the idea that Yuri had came up with as he tried to counter my questions with unrealiable answers.

"Mr Choo." I stopped the old man from his continuous useless blabberings. "Why do you sound so unsure of your own work? You did prepare all this right? So why can't you answer my questions properly? All you had been doing was to repeat the whole process of applying your idea into our repair system. Which I could easily read from the first few pages of the file. What I want is answers to back-up plans, replacement of products and the counter measures for all these."

"Ms Han... I.. I... I'm not ready to answer your questions. I mean.. I didn't think of all these." Mr Choo tried to come up with excuses as I gave him a hard glare before turning to face Mr Song.

"What is your opinion on this issue? Am I suppose to reprimand you for handing over a project that was not well-taught off? Did you, as the Head of Department, even ensure that such scenarios would not occur?"

"I'm sorry, Ms Han. I thought that Mr Choo was all prepared and ready for his proposal. It was my mistake for not checking on this. He makes it sound as if the proposal was not by him." Mr Song tried to joke around about it as I noticed Mr Choo becoming uneasy with Mr Song's words.

"I had the same thought too." I started to look at Mr Choo, trying to show him that I was actually aware about what he did. "Anyway, I heard complains that there is harassment going around in this department, Mr Song. I would need to talk to you in private about it."

As Mr Choo excused himself and was about to walk out from the room, I told him to re-do his proposal and submit it to me by tomorrow so that I could present it during the Bi-weekly meeting on Wednesday.

"It shouldn't take a lot of time for you to touch-up on your proposal, Mr Choo and please be present during the meeting so that I can check with you if there's any further enquiries from the board of directors."

Mr Choo stopped momentarily before he nodded his head and left the room. The moment the door was closed, Mr Song turned to look at me with a confused look.

"Since when do the board of directors attend our meetings?" Mr Song asked as I just chuckled.

"Since I realised that people in the company are misusing the authority given to them."

************************

"How come you are here at this hour? Aren't you suppose to be at work?" Jessica asked with concern as she walked up towards Yuri who had been waiting for her since lunch in her office room.

"I just came back from the hospital. Doctor Ahn gave me two days of sick leave." Yuri replied as Jessica's eyes widened.

"Sick leave?! Wae? Which part of you is sick?" Jessica started to touch every part of Yuri who started to laugh out loud.

"The Director of Hanjin told me to get some rest so she arranged for me to seek medical attention from Doctor Ahn." Yuri explained but Jessica was looking more confused. "I'll explain further later. Can you please ask Krystal to come to your office?"

Without asking much question, Jessica did what Yuri had told her and summoned for Krystal to her office. The young girl was surprised to see Yuri there but when Yuri told her that Eunjin had spoken to her in the morning, Krystal suddenly nodded her head.

"I guess it's okay for me to tell Sica-unnie what I saw, right? I presumed you are aware that I knew about everything." Krystal asked nervously.

"Yes, I know. Eunjin informed me that both of you had watched the CCTV recordings and she told me that if you wanted to release your tensions over the matter, you can do so now. At the moment, Eunjin is taking care of the matter on the other side." Yuri explained as the 3 of them sat down before Krystal started narrating everything that she had seen that day to her sister.

As Jessica listened to the story, she couldn't stopped herself from crying because she couldn't imagine that her girlfriend had gone through so much mental torture at work all by herself. Yuri didn't expect Jessica to break down as she quickly went beside her girlfriend to wrap an arm around her shoulder.

"Wae-yo? Why are you crying? Gwenchana?" Yuri looked concerned as Jessica just nodded her head.

"Unnie is just upset that you are going throught all these torments by yourself. And she had accidentally accused you of something that you didn't even do. When in actual fact, you're just working hard for both of your future." Krystal explained on her sister's behalf since she's aware of Jessica's true feelings.

"Mianhae. I've not been there by your side to go through all this." Jessica said in between her sobs as Yuri just smiled.

"It's okay. Eunjin has promised to take care of the matter and I have faith in her. That poor kid was also blaming herself for such incidents to happen. She's putting too much burden on her shoulders."

Krystal agreed to Yuri's statement since she was aware about how Eunjin was feeling about the whole situation. The sound of Yuri's phone ringing, interrupted their moment as Yuri smirked when she saw the name on her phone screen.

Answering the phone and putting it on loud speaker while asking Jessica and Krystal to keep quiet, Yuri didn't looked surprised when the voice that came on was literally shouting at her.

"YAH KWON YURI!!! WHO ALLOWED YOU TO TAKE HALF-DAY LEAVE TODAY?!!! GET YOUR BACK HERE TO THE OFFICE!!"

"Mr Choo, I'm sorry but I'm on two days sick leave. I've already submitted the doctor's letter to HR for their approval."

"I'm going to ask them to reject your sick leave. You get ready to come back to work and do overtime."

With that last sentence, a loud thud was heard as a sign that Mr Choo had hung up the phone on Yuri. As she turned around to face both the Jung sisters, she was shocked to see them with angered face.

"Oh my god. That old man is so.... Errrghhhh.. I don't even know how to describe him. I feel like strangling him." Krystal said as Yuri just chuckled.

"Why are you laughing? You didn't seem affected with his words earlier though. He's planning to ask HR to reject your sick leave and even asking you to do overtime. And I still don't know why you are on sick leave when you don't even look sick." Jessica asked with a slight frown.

"It's all part of Eunjin's plan. I guess by now she must have interrogated Mr Choo about my project and asking him to re-do it. Since I was the one who actually did up the whole thing, Eunjin anticipate that Mr Choo would ask me to do it instead with some excuses that he would come up with. Which is why Eunjin asked me to see Doctor Ahn who would give me two days of sick leave on the basis that I'm overworked." Yuri explained further.

"Because in two days time, they are suppose to have the Bi-weekly meeting, right?" Krystal intercepted as Yuri nodded her head. "So now, Mr Choo is desperately looking for help for the project which is supposed to be presented this Wednesday. If he can't do a proper job on this, it's obvious that he's not the one who came up with the idea."

"But what if HR rejects Yuri's sick leave and she has to go back to work?" Jessica asked.

"That won't happen. It's the company's policy to approve all sick leave submission on the day itself. If HR found any discrepancy down the road, the worker will be dealt with accordingly. It was one of the new policy that Eunjin had came up with after she was introduced to the company as the successor of Harabeoji." Yuri informed as she frowned a little as if in deep thoughts. "Work is a neverending deal and health is a treasure that we always take advantage of. So when you're sick, get some rest and come back as a healthier person who can contribute better to the company. That's what I remembered from the email that she sent out to everyone."

Krystal broke into a wide smile as she suddenly felt proud of what Eunjin did but her smile disappeared when Yuri continued explaining that some of the older workers didn't really agree to what Eunjin had done.

"They think that by allowing workers to easily go on sick leave, it would delay a lot of work and create constraint on the manpower strength but generally the idea was accepted widely especially among the younger generation. What I heard from other workers, during the time when Harabeoji was controlling the company, taking sick leave was something that was frowned upon. But what Eunjin did is good since it actually minimise the spreading of virus among co-workers. Eunjin even ensured that healthier food are served at the staff cafetaria with fruits being provided freely. In a way, it showed that the management are helping out in taking care of the well-being of the staff."

"She's actually doing better than expected." Jessica commented. "For someone who is new in handling a big company like Hanjin, she seems to understand the priority of having the support of the workers. Some company actually looked down on sick leave and even penalised workers through their yearly bonus. Which I think is not the right thing to do. Of course there would be some who will be against the idea. These kind of people exists in almost every company. They would be against the company policies, instigating others to leave and seek better jobs elsewehere but would always be the one who stays the longest in the company. Which is why it is always important to remove such negative attitudes among the workers."

Krystal and Yuri nodded in agreement at Jessica's words before a beeping sound was heard from Yuri's phone.

Everything has been taken care of. Sorry for not noticing the problem much earlier. I'll make sure that such things won't happen again. Not to you or to anyone else. Rest well then since you're suppose to be on two days sick leave. I'll see you on Wednesday morning. - Eunjin

"Aigoo, this kid. Until when is she going to keep apologising to me? She has already done a lot on her part." Yuri mumbled to herself before she showed Eunjin's message to Krystal and Jessica.

"I think she will always feel apologetic until everything has really sorted out properly." Krystal said. "She's the one who put Mr Choo in-charge of you."

"I know. She told me before that it was because Mr Choo was the most senior of all the fleet manager. She wanted me to gain as much experience as possible. But I never blamed her for what happened. The reason as to why I didn't informed her about all the bullying was because I didn't want her to feel bad and at the same time, jeopardize Mr Choo's position. When I was studying this course at the University, I experienced the same kind of judgements from the other male students. Which is why I was immune to all his sarcasm. But I guess it became too much when he actually took my work and claimed it to be his. That is totally out of the line."

"I think Eunjin felt that way too. Which is why she decided that she needed to step in. If it was just because of the harassment and bullying, she could have easily transferred you to another Fleet manager." Jessica gave her opinion on the matter.

Another beeping sound was heard as everyone turned to look at Krystal.

I'll be heading over to Harabeoji's place after work later. Will it be okay if you stay at your sister's apartment for the night? I'm not sure how long I'll be there or if I'll be heading home tonight. - Eunjin

Krystal pouted which she didn't go unnoticed by Jessica. Asking her about it, Krystal showed the message to her sister and Yuri.

"She must be meeting Harabeoji to discuss about the matter. Eunjin informed me earlier during our discussion that she's planning to take some disciplinary actions against Mr Choo. It's her first time taking actions against a worker. She must be feeling stress about it."

Hearing Yuri's explanation, Krystal's expression changed into a concerned look as she bit her lips.

"Is the work really stressful for Eunjin? She rarely talks about work to me and usually appears relax when we're at home." Krystal enquired as a cheeky smile appeared on Yuri's face.

"Someone seemed to be very eager to call Eunjin's apartment as her home." Yuri teased as Krystal blushed before sticking out her tongue at Yuri. "Eunjin usually doesn't want others to feel overly worried about her. She's used to handle things by herself. It has became part of her habit as she grew up alone. So give her more time to open up herself. But I think besides work, she's becoming more open about her feelings, right?"

"She does. She's usually more clingy when it's just the two of us." Krystal blushed again as Jessica and Yuri chuckled at her. "But I want to be there for her always. No matter it's about work or daily matters, I want her to share everything with me. Furthermore, she did promised me before that she will always bring me over to her grandparent's house if she's visiting them. I guess she had forgotten about it."

"Well, nobody is stopping you from going to their place. Am I right?" Jessica smirked and wriggled her eyebrow at her younger sister.

************************

Removing my helmet, I looked at the car that was already parked in the garage. I had noticed it when I drove my bike inside but I wasn't that certain. But now that I'm actually standing in front of it, a frown appeared on my face.

"What is Krystal doing here?" I mumbled to myself before making my way to the side door that would lead to the house.

"Annyeonghaseyo Harabeoji, Halmeoni." I bowed my head at the two elderly person who were seated at the living room.

Harabeoji was busy looking at the newspaper while Halmeoni was reading a book. Both of them had a big smile on their faces as Halmeoni spread out her arms to welcome me with a hug. They were aware that I was coming so it didn't came as a surprise to them. But my eyes were roaming around the living room, looking for that person whom I knew was there.

"Looking for your girlfriend?" Harabeoji literally took my thoughts out of my mind as I grinned at him. "She's at the kitchen with Aunt Nancy, helping her out with dinner."

"Why is she here? Did you ask her to come over?" I asked bluntly as Harabeoji chuckled before Halmeoni slapped me lightly on my shoulders.

"What do you mean by why? Does she need a reason to come over to my place? She can come and go whenever she wants, without us asking her over." Halmeoni nagged at me as I pouted.

"Am I not welcomed here?"

A soft voice was heard from behind as I turned my back and saw Krystal holding on to a tray of drinks but her expression appeared to be upset. She walked up to us and placed the tray on the table before excusing herself, citing that there was still some work left in the kitchen. Before I could say anything or reply to her question earlier, Krystal left for the dining area.

"See what you've done. You hurt her feelings with your words." Halmeoni pulled my ear for a moment while Harabeoji just shook his head.

"I didn't mean it in such a bad way. I was just surprised to see her here." I tried to explain myself.

"Surprised? She told us that you had informed her about coming here. So why are you surprised to see her?" Harabeoji asked.

"I did told her that I'll be here and asked her to spend the night at her Unnie's place since I was not sure if I was even heading home for the night. I didn't want her to sleep alone tonight." I explained my message earlier.

"She was worried about you. She told me earlier that there was something going on at work and she's just concerned that you might be too stressed out about it. Furthermore, you didn't say that she couldn't be here anyway."

Halmeoni's words caused me to bite my lips as I felt a little guilty for my blunt words towards Krystal earlier. Before I could say anything further, Aunt Nancy appeared to inform us that dinner was ready so the 3 of us made our way to the dining area.

Krystal was already seated along with Uncle Park, whom I immediately greeted. He was busy cleaning the garden earlier so I didn't manage to greet him yet.

"Today's dinner would be very delicious since I had a beautiful helper with me. She was very eager to know more about Eunjin's favourite food and kept taking down notes on how to prepare them." Aunt Nancy informed us with a cheerful tone but it made me felt more guilty towards Krystal.

"Krystal-ah.... I.."

I didn't manage to complete my sentence when Krystal ignored me and started to invite Harabeoji and Halmeoni to start the dinner. She kept herself busy with helping to get the food for my grandparents and continued chatting away with them. I ended up looking a little sulky but no one seemed to be bothered about me.

"Krystal, will you be spending the night here?" Halmeoni asked and just went I was about to intercept the question, Krystal shook her head.

"I'll be going home later after helping out with the dishes."

"Wae?" I suddenly blurted out in a panic tone as Krystal turned and glared at me. "I mean... you can stay here if you want to. Or we can go back together later."

"It's okay. I don't want to be a hindrance to whatever plans you have tonight. Since it's obvious that I'm not part of it and you don't seem to welcome me around here anyway."

I swallowed my saliva at Krystal's words as I saw Harabeoji shaking his head while Halmeoni's expression didn't seemed like she was pleased with whatever that was going on. I let out a deep sigh when I realised that I had made Krystal upset.

Silence filled the atmosphere before Krystal excused herself since she was done with dinner. I looked at Harabeoji and Halmeoni but both of them only shrugged their shoulders as I pouted.
