Chapter 4

Hard But Easy

"Why do I have to tag along? I don't want to be a lamp post. It's your date." I said as Taeyeon pouted.

"It's not a date. Jessica will be there too." Taeyeon tried to change my mind.

"Then that will look like a double date. That's even worse." I said as both of us continued to pack the tools into their respective boxes.

"It's not. We're just going to bring both girls to the car showroom and give them suggestions on what cars to get." Taeyeon said.

"Girls? Did I just heard you mentioning about bringing two girls around?" Yuri appeared out of nowhere and smirked while walking towards us. "So, who is the girl who had succumbed to the great Kim Taeyeon?"

Yuri started to laugh but she stopped when a dirty rag landed on her face, thanks to Taeyeon who had thrown it.

"Don't talk about her like that." Taeyeon said in a serious tone as Yuri suddenly stared at her.

"Wait. Why do sound so serious? Don't tell me...." Yuri pointed her finger at Taeyeon who looked straight into her eyes. "You have fallen in love with her."

Both me and Taeyeon looked at Yuri with widened eyes as she made her way to one of the chairs and sat down.

"How did you know?" I asked as Taeyeon sighed.

"Taengoo had never once been angry about me teasing her with any girls. Because it doesn't bother her. Contrary with what I've always said about her being very popular with girls, she's actually a hermit." Yuri explained as Taeyeon threatened to throw another dirty rag. "What I mean is, she doesn't mingle around much. She's the type that stays home most of the time."

"I know about that. Sunny told me before." I said as I pushed the toolbox into the cupboard before locking it while Taeyeon made her way to sit beside Yuri. "What I'm curious is how you knew about her falling in love because Taeyeon did admit that she had fallen in love."

"If you had known Taengoo as long as I did, you could see it in her eyes. When she was being defensive earlier, you could see her desire to protect that person." Yuri explained.

All I could do was just to nod my head but I was surprised when Yuri suddenly pointed her finger at me.

"I can see it in your eyes too. If ever you fall in love." Yuri said before breaking out into a smirk. "Even though we've not seen each other for 14yrs, I know you well. Which is why I know that you're keeping stuff from me."

I noticed the confused look in Taeyeon's face as my mind started to look for ways to divert their attention away from me.

"Taeng. Why don't you bring Yuri along instead? For your meet-up with Tiffany and Jessica." I suddenly suggested as Taeyeon's eyes lit up.

"I'm cool with that too. At least I'm confident that Yul here knows how to handle the girls, if there's a need to." Taeyeon said as she explained to Yuri about the meet-up. "So we'll meet the two girls at the car showroom and bring them around while explaining the cars to them."

"This Friday huh? At 4pm?" Yuri rubbed her chin as if she was thinking. "I should be free at that time since my dad's worker will be back by Wednesday."

"Does that mean you'll be coming back to work here on Thursday itself?" I asked as Yuri nodded her head. "That's awesome. It's like our childhood dreams. Repairing a car together."

"Yul here will be busy flirting around with the female customers who came to the workshop. For the past 6 weeks that you were away, do you know how many female customers had turned up to look for you?" Taeyeon asked as Yuri shrugged her shoulders. "But don't worry. The moment they saw Eunjin, they were curious about her."

"Oh no... Don't tell me I've got a competitor in here?" Yuri pouted before she burst out laughing. "But I think Eunjin is more like you, Taengoo. The hermit type."

"YAH!!!"

************************

I had just removed my helmet and placed it on my bike after pushing it into the workshop when I felt a difference in the atmosphere inside. It was too quiet. Not as noisy at it was two days ago when me, Taeyeon and Yuri were joking around while working. I looked around and saw that Taeyeon and Yuri were doing work at opposite ends of the room.

"Hi. Good morning." I said as I dismounted from my bike.

Greetings were murmured out in reply as I arched my left eyebrows and leaned against my bike. Folding my arms, I continued to observe both girl's actions and after 5mins, I was assured that something was not right.

"Did something happen on Friday?" I asked as both girls stopped doing their work and turned to look at me.

"Ask her!!" Both of them shouted out the reply at the same time, pointing fingers at each other.

"Okay. Stop." I said as I walked to the centre. "Can we talk as adults or do you both want to act like kids and fight it out? I don't mind being the referee for your childish fight."

Both of them didn't say a word but turned their bodies away instead. I sighed as I walked towards Yuri.

"What's wrong? What happened?" I asked as I placed my hand on her shoulder.

"I don't even know actually. She was acting all cold to me since yesterday." Yuri explained, citing that Taeyeon was fine intially until Jessica and Tiffany appeared at the car showroom.

"Did you do something that might have triggered that kind of reaction from her?" I asked again as Yuri shook her head. "Maybe towards Jessica or Tiffany?"

"She flirted with them!!"

The loud answer came from the other side of the room as I turned to an angry-looking Taeyeon.

"Yah!! I've already explained to you last night. I knew Stephanie from before." Yuri shouted back as she glared at Taeyeon.

"But still. Do you have to flirt with her? Even after knowing that I've got feelings for her." Taeyeon sighed and turned away, tilting her head to look at the ceiling.

"Guys... I mean girls. Can we all take a deep breathe and calm down for a second?" I said and was about to suggest for the 3 of us to gather at the centre bench when my words was cut off.

"What's going on in here? I can hear shouting from outside." Sunny walked in from the front of the workshop and placed both of hands on her hip. "Kim Taeyeon, Kwon Yuri. You both were fighting, am I right? The 3 of you in my office, right now."

5mins later, I stood in the middle between Taeyeon and Yuri, both with their heads down as I continued to look at Sunny with a blank expression.

"Kim Taeyeon, tell me your side of the story first."

Taeyeon's POV

"Hey, Yul. How do I look? Is it okay?" I asked Yuri as I bite my lips.

"You look great, Taengoo. Just relax. Be yourself." Yuri patted my back as I subconsciously nodded my head. "I know you want to impress her but being nervous is not going to help."

"I've not seen her since the last time we met up at the workshop about 2 weeks ago. Obviously, I'm nervous." I replied as Yuri giggled.

"By the way, you said that her friend is not bad too. Any chances we can double date?" Yuri rubbed her shoulders against mine as I rolled my eyes at her.

"If you're not going to be serious about being in a relationship, please stay away from Tiffany's friend. I don't want her to hate me because of you." I said as Yuri meronged at me.

From a distance, I saw Tiffany and Jessica walking up towards us who were standing in front of the car showroom. Since Yuri was facing me and had her back towards them, she was not aware of their presence. Seeing Tiffany waving her hands at us, I instantly waved back.

"Who are you waving at?" Yuri asked as she turned around.

"Hi Taeyeon. Hi... OMG!!" Tiffany's eyes widened when she saw Yuri. "I can't believe it's you."

I was shocked while Jessica had a blank expression as Tiffany gave Yuri a tight hug. Both of them were smiling widely at each other, behaving as if they've known each other for a long time.

"How did Stephanie becomes Tiffany?" Yuri asked as Tiffany giggled, explaining that she prefer the name Tiffany since it was a name chosen by her mother.

"Your mum must be smiling at you from above." Yuri said as Tiffany gave her eye-smile and nodded her head.

I must have looked very stupid at the moment as Yuri turned to look at me and closed my gaping mouth. Tiffany chuckled while Jessica had the same blank look as earlier. From then on, both Yuri and Tiffany were busy chatting with each other while I was so-called tasked to explain about the cars to Jessica.

"I've already explained to you when you pulled me to the Ladies while we were at the restaurant. I know Tiffany from way before." Yuri explained again as Taeyeon just rolled her eyes. "See? It's not my fault that she choose to be childish."

Yuri turned to face Sunny who seemed to be in deep thoughts. At that moment, I had already taken a seat across Sunny while Taeyeon and Yuri were still standing.

"Childish? Who was the one flirting with the girl that her best friend had a huge crush on? Betrayer!!" Taeyeon rebutted as it was Yuri's turn to roll her eyes. "How close are you with her until you even knew that her mom had passed away when she was only 15? Were you two in a relationship before?"

"You are over-thinking, Taengoo. We're just friends. I knew you like her. That was why I only spent time talking to her in the showroom, since you need to explain stuff to Jessica. When we were at the restaurant, I gave you the chance to interact with her. I even asked Jessica to accompany me to the buffet table. But what did you? You were literally sulking and pouting, keeping all quiet. Tiffany had to do most of the talking and even so, you only gave her short answers." Yuri tried to defend her actions. "I don't think you left a good impression on her though."

"Oh really? So did you leave a better impression then?" Taeyeon glared at Yuri who lifted up her hands in despair.

"Taeyeon, calm down." I suddenly said as everyone turned to look at me. "We've heard Taeng's side of the story. Maybe we can hear how Yuri actually got to know Tiffany."

Yuri's POV

"Yah, Choi Sooyoung. I shouldn't have listened to you earlier. It would have been better if I had stayed in the hotel room with Seohyun. No wonder Yoona didn't want to follow you too." I continued nagging at the tall girl in front of me who was pretending as if she was not listening at all.

"It used to be here though. I've only been here last year. How can the place change so fast? Shops in Korea will remain at the same location for at least ten over years." Sooyoung mumbled to herself as she shifted her eyes between the signboards by the roadside and her phone.

"Now what are we going to do? We are lost." Yuri asked as Sooyoung gave her the puppy eyes. "Stop acting cute. Go and ask for directions."

"Mworago? Ask for directions? We're in New York. Not Seoul or Busan. How do I ask for directions when I can only speak little english?" Sooyoung's eyes almost popped out at my suggestions.

"Let's call Seohyun and ask her to help us to ask for directions." I suggested another way as Sooyoung squinted her eyes, not understanding what I've just said.

I was about to strangle Sooyoung's neck when I heard a greeting so familiar that it sounded like music to my ears.

"Annyeonghaseyo. Are the two of you lost?"

I turned around and came face to face with a bright smile of a beautiful lady.

"And that was how I got to know Tiffany. Or Stephanie as what she introduced herself as during that time. She helped us a lot during our vacation in New York 3yrs ago. Seohyun and Yoona really liked her. She was very charming in her own ways. Helpful, kind and a little hyperactive. But!!!" Yuri paused when she saw the pout on Taeyeon's face. "I don't have feelings for her. She's like a sister to me. A great friend to have. I still keep in contact with her through emails. Not only me but Seohyun and Yoona do that too."

Silence filled the air as no one said anything. Even Sunny was lost in her own thoughts until I cleared my throat.

"I think Taeng is just jealous over the fact that Yul has gotten closer to Tiffany before her. She's not actually angry at Yul. Am I right?" I tried to guess as Taeyeon slowly nodded my head. "Knowing Yul's character, I think Taeng's afraid that Tiffany might develop feelings for Yul."

Yuri started chuckling as she told Taeyeon that Tiffany was actually interested in her and had been asking Yuri questions about herself. "Throughout the time we were in the showroom, Tiffany couldn't stop asking about you. Whether you're single, how long I've known you, what kind of a person you are and lots of other questions."

Taeyeon couldn't hide the grin on her face the moment she heard what Yuri had said. Suddenly both of them started talking to each other, placing their arms on each other's shoulders and were making their way towards the door when Sunny shouted.

"Yah!!" Both Yuri and Taeyeon turned around to face her. "So, what? Are you guys okay now?"

"We've always been okay." Both of them replied together and laughed out loud as they exited the office.

Sunny turned to look at me as I kept blinking my eyes and scratched my neck, confused at the sudden change of attitude from Taeyeon and Yuri.

"Eunjin-ah, get use to it. Both of them are bipolar." Sunny said as I just smiled at her words. "Please don't be influence by them. I need at least one of you to remain sane."

************************

"Hey, have you decided what car you wanted to buy?" Tiffany asked as Jessica just stared blankly at her,

"Unnie, you are getting a new car?" Krystal walked in with a tray of cupcakes which she had just baked. "Try this, Unnies."

Tiffany thanked her as Jessica just continued to lie down on her couch.

"Maybe I'll get the white BMW. I've not really decided yet." Jessica replied.

"Do you need to meet Taeyeon to ask her more about cars? I think she'll be more than willing to meet us again." Tiffany asked eagerly before taking a bite off the cupcake in her hand.

"Are you sure? Or you are the only one who seems eager to meet her?" Jessica rolled her eyes at Tiffany who was giggling. "By the way, you seems close to her other friend. The tanned one. What was her name again?"

"Yul.. Yuri. I knew her when we met each other in New York 3yrs ago. She was lost then, along with her sister's girlfriend, Sooyoung while searching for a restaurant at Soho. We became close after that and I also got to know her younger siblings, Yoona and Seohyun." Tiffany explained further. "I heard that Sooyoung and Yoona had opened a cafe together. It's called..."

"Twin Towers?" Krystal completed Tiffany's sentence, surprising the girl who nodded her head.

"How did you know?" Tiffany asked as Krystal explained that one of her friend was working part time at the cafe, introducing her to the owners before.

"Ahh... I see. Such a small world." Tiffany said with a smile.

"She's talking about her crush." Jessica commented, causing Krystal to glare at her sister while Tiffany looked confused. "The girl that's working part time there. It seems that our little Soojungie likes her a lot."

"Really??!!" Tiffany exclaimed, causing both the Jungs sisters to close their ears. "Oh my god!! This is great news. Our Soojungie is into girls. Unlike her sister who pretends to be straight when she likes to oogle at girls and until now, she has yet to have a boyfriend."

"What the..? Shut up, Hwang Miyoung." Jessica threw a pillow at Tiffany who was laughing out loud. "I don't do that. And I'm straight. It's just that I have not found a guy who is really sincere about me."

"And what if there's a girl who is sincere about you? Are you going to reject her because you think that you're straight?" Tiffany asked as Jessica just stared at her blankly. "Love is love, Jessi. It doesn't differentiate the genders."

Jessica sighed as Krystal continued to just observed quietly.

"And you, Soojungie. Just because you feel something about this girl, it doesn't mean that you love her or you need to be in a relationship with her. Get to know her better. Don't rush. You're still young. I don't want you to get hurt." Tiffany continued talking before finishing up her cupcake.

"I know, Fany-unnie. Sica-unnie said the same thing to and I said that the person will have to face HellSica if that happens." Krystal replied with a smile.

"Well, it'll be HellSica and HellFany at the same time." Jessica added on as Tiffany nodded her head furiously, before they all started to laugh.

"By the way, who is Taeyeon? I heard you mentioning that name earlier." Krystal asked as she turned to look at Tiffany.

"Just someone that your Fany-unnie seems to have an interest in. Someone that looks underage." Jessica intercepted before Tiffany could say anything.

"She's not underage. She's the same age as us. It's just that she's extra cute." Tiffany giggled to herself while Jessica shook her head. "Especially after Yuri told me that she was jealous of my closeness with Yuri."

"Wow. You look like you've really fallen for her, Fany-unnie. Your eyes are literally glowing when you were talking about her." Krystal commented as Tiffany continued to smile and giggle at the same time. "Is this how love is?"

"Love is a hassle. Waste of time." Jessica  said as she turned her body sideways and faced the couch. "Sleeping is so much better."

"What's wrong with your sister?" Tiffany asked as Krystal shrugged her shoulders. "By the way, I can't confidently say that I'm in love with her. I mean, I've only met her twice."

"But there's love at first sight, right?" Krystal asked with a curious look.

"There is but it's always better to get to know the person more before you get let her or him into your heart. Love is not that simple but it's not that complicated either."

Krystal frowned ast Tiffany's explanation as the bubbly girl continued to giggle while she disturbed her bestfriend who was trying to fall asleep on the couch.

************************

"Hey, what's wrong?" I nudged Yuri's shoulders when I saw her daydreaming at the corner.

"Huh?.. Oh, nothing." Yuri answered as she scratched the back of her neck and pretended to concentrate on the toolbox in front of her,

"Don't lie. You've been daydreaming for the past two days. I noticed it started after you left Sunny's office with Taeyeon that day. Are the both of you really okay?" I asked while leaning against the tabletop.

"We're fine. I can see that Tiffany really has an interest in Taeng, I'm happy for her." Yuri answered as she tried to avoid eye contact with me.

"You don't sound sincere when you said it though. Don't tell me you have feelings for Tiffany?" I tried to guess as a surge of pain was felt on the back of my head, thanks to the hit that Yuri had given me.

"Are you crazy? I've already said that I don't have feelings for her." Yuri nagged at me with a stint of anger in her voice.

"Mianhae. I was just trying to guess what's in your mind. If it's not about Tiffany, then maybe it's because of Jessica." I covered my head quickly, anticipating another hit from Yuri but to my surprise, she just stared blankly at me.

"She's different." Yuri sighed after making that remark before walking away from me.

Yuri's POV

'Why do I keep being reminded of her cold stare? It's been two days already and I can't shake her off my mind. Damn it. I need to stop thinking about her, especially since Eunjin had managed to guess correctly.'

"Hey, Yul. What do you mean she's different?" I saw Eunjin walking towards me after I had tried to walk away from her.

"It's nothing." I answered as my mind tried to find ways to stop Eunjin from asking further. "Where's Taeng?"

"She's on the phone. Chorong said that Jessica called in to look for her." Eunjin answered and I quickly regretted my mumbled response to her.

"Taeng is not the only one who is knowledgeable about cars."

I saw Eunjin squinting her eyes at me as I quickly continued talking by saying that both she and I also knew a lot about cars.

"You're jealous." Eunjin pointed her finger at me. "There's something about Jessica that is bothering you. Am I right?"

I faked a quick laugh. "Bothering me? Why would I even be bothered? She's just another girl. I'm the great Kwon Yul. It's not a big deal to me."

"But you're still a human. Who can fall in love when the right person appears. And I think someone has manage to ruffle your feathers, Ms Kwon Yul the Great." Eunjin smirked at me as I rolled my eyes at her.

"Whatever. Stop trying to guess what's in my mind. Love is a hassle. Waste of time. Flirting around is so much better, with no strings attached." I tried to act nonchalant.

"I'm not trying to guess, Yul. Frankly speaking, I'm a little disappointed in you for treating love so lightly. Especially towards those girls who have been coming here to look for you. Don't play with their heart if you're not serious about them." Eunjin sighed.

"I don't love any of those girls and they know that I'm not serious about them. It's a mutual understanding." I answered but I didn't know why I felt a sense of guilt when I said those words.

************************

I was about to say something to Yuri when Taeyeon appeared with a grin.

"Guess what? Jessica will be coming to collect her old car tomorrow and she wanted to treat us to dinner after that. She wanted to thank us for helping her out." Taeyeon's grin became wider.

"I'm guessing that Tiffany will be there too?" I asked as Taeyeon nodded her head eagerly. "That explains the stupid smile on your face."

Taeyeon was about to give me a fake punch when her actions stopped, after hearing Yuri's response.

"I'm not free tomorrow. I've got a date. You both can go ahead."

I continued watching Yuri's back as she made her way to the staff locker room where the 3 of us would usually shower before heading home.

"Please tell me that you're free tomorrow. Because if you're not, I don't think I'm going either." Taeyeon pouted as I could sense the disappointment in her tone of voice.

"No worries. I'm free tomorrow but I'll be riding my bike to the place." I said as Taeyeon didn't wait another second to agree to my request.

As Taeyeon skipped her way to the locker room.,I stared at Jessica's old car that was still in the workshop.

'Jessica Jung, I hope you are the one for Yul.'
