Chapter 15

Hard But Easy

Yuri's POV

'Why do I feel so connected to the song that Eunjin is singing?'

I thought to myself as my eyes travelled to where Jessica was seated. She was focusing on Eunjin who was singing, giving me the opportunity to stare at her without her realising it.

'Even though I don't know her well, I know that she has a beautiful soul behind those cold eyes that she potrayed.'

I was almost caught staring at her when Jessica suddenly turned to face me. Luckily, I managed to escape by pretending to rub my eyes. Sensing that she had looked back at Eunjin, I sighed and continued listening to Eunjin instead.

'If only she could see my true heart.'

Jessica's POV

'Why do I feel like someone is staring at me?'

I was busy concentrating on listening to Eunjin's performance when I felt that someone was looking at me. Trusting my guts, I turned slightly to my left where I had felt the stare was coming from. That was when I noticed Yuri rubbing her eyes.

'Was she the one staring at me? But she's rubbing her eyes. Maybe I was just being paranoid.'

I turned back to look at Eunjn and from the corner of my eyes, I saw Yuri stopped rubbing her eyes before she sighed.

'What's wrong with that girl? Is she not feeling well? Wait a minute.... Why am I concerned about her? I'm suppose to dislike her, right? And why did Soojung request for Eunjin to sing her an English song? This little sister of mine is weird.'

Tiffany's POV

'Eunjin likes Krystal. I'm sure of that.'

I smiled to myself suddenly before I felt someone tapping my thighs. Turning to my right, I saw Taeyeon looking at me with a concerned look.

"Ppany-ah, why are you smiling to yourself suddenly?" She whispered to me since she didn't want to disrupt Eunjin's performance.

"Taetae, is Eunjin into girls or is she straight?" I leaned in and whispered back to Taeyeon.

"Wae? Why do you want to know?" Taeyeon had a nervous look on her face.

"Don't worry, sweetheart. I'm not interested in her but I've got a feeling that Eunjin might be interested in someone." I said as Taeyeon started to look around. "Just observe where Eunjin will look at when she sings."

Taeyeon's POV

I almost panicked when Tiffany started to ask about Eunjin but after she explained her reasons for asking, I started to look around.

"Just observe where Eunjin will look at when she sings." Tiffany whispered to me.

Since Eunjin was playing the guitar, most of the time she would be looking at the guitar's chords but when she looked up once a while, I saw that her eyes only travelled to one direction. Towards Jessica.

'Jessica? Oh no. Yuri is not going to like this.'

I thought to myself and was about to tell Tiffany when I realised that it was not Jessica whom Eunjin was looking at. It was someone beside Jessica. To be precise, it was Krystal.

Sooyoung's POV

'Holy . She's good. Should I start a live band in this cafe and ask Eunjin to sing? Maybe we could have the live band over the weekends since that is the time when Eunjin is not working.'

"Thinking of starting up a live band in the cafe?"

I turned to the voice beside me where my girlfriend was seated. "How did you know that I was thinking of that?"

Yoona smiled and winked at me, causing me to chuckle at her reactions and I had a wider smile on my face when I heard her reply to my question.

"Because I'm your girlfriend."

Krystal's POV

'If you didn't give us that cheeky grin, I won't have asked you to sing an English song for us. But now, it seems to me as if my plan had backfired.'

I looked down to the floor even though my ears were listening intently to her singing. When she grinned cheekily after asking if there was any song request from us earlier, I thought that she was acting snobbish. Which was why I decided to test her by asking her to sing an English song. Furthermore, no one answered her question but I was really surprised when she could sing it and even did it so well.

"She sings very well. Don't you think so, Soojungie?"

Unnie whispered to me as I looked up and nodded my head. That was when I saw her looking at me while singing.

'Why are you looking at me when you sing? There's so many other places that you can look at instead of my direction.'

I thought to myself as I continued to have eye contact with her, giving her my cold glare but she seemed unfazed about it.

'She's the first person after Sica-unnie who is not bothered by my cold looks. Why is she still looking at me? Don't tell me she's singing for me?'

************************

Applause were heard after I ended my song as Seohyun, who was seated beside me, suddenly hugged me from the side. Yuri and Yoona started to tease us by saying that Seohyun, was fangirling over me throughout my performance. I could only laughed as I patted Seohyun's head.

"Hyunnie should performed together with Jinnie. She can play the piano and Jinnie can sing." Yoona said as she started clapping her hands, happy with her own suggestion. "Our maknae used to have a big crush on Jinnie since young. Everywhere Jinnie goes, she would want to follow."

"Unnie!! You don't have to tell everyone about that." Seohyun started to blush and covered her face while the rest laughed at her cute reaction.

Not everyone though since I saw, from the corner of my eyes, that Krystal was rolling her eyes. 'Why is she so cute when she's rolling her eyes?'

The girls started chatting away while finishing the food that was spread out on the table. Yoona was extremely close to Jessica which was not surprising since I've seen their interactions at the amusement park before. But I was surprised that Krystal was laughing and smiling at Yoona too,

"Yah!! Why are the both of you having the same blank expression?" Taeyeon suddenly voiced out as she pointed at me and Yuri.

Both of us turned to face each other without changing our expression and burst out laughing when we saw each other faces. Our laughter caught the attention of the rest as Taeyeon explained what she saw earlier.

"These two are always goofing around. Since young. Mischievous and always up to something." Yoona commented as both me and Yuri meronged at her. Seohyun and Yoona then started to tell everyone about how me and Yuri were always reprimanded by our teachers for things such as sleeping in class, playing with rubber bands or even skipping lessons.

"I thought Yuri-unnie is the same age as Sica-unnie? How come Eunjin-unnie is in the same class as her? Eunjin-unnie is younger, right?" Krystal suddenly asked a lot of question as Yoona explained about me being an early baby.

"If they had been close friends since young, how come Eunjin-unnie didn't go to the same school as Sica-unnie, just like Yuri-unnie?" Krystal asked further as everyone suddenly became silent.

The only people who were not aware about what happened in my past were Tiffany, Jessica and Krystal. No one answered Krystal's question as they waited for me to answer it myself.

"I moved to Japan when I was 10yrs old and studied there before returning to Seoul when I was 14." I replied with a small smile to Krystal who just nodded her head. I was about to explain further when her phone suddenly rang and she excused herself to answer it.

"Must be Amber." Jessica blurted out.

"Amber?" Victoria was surprised when she heard it. "You're not talking about the same Amber who is working part-time here, right?"

"Yes. It's the same Amber. She had asked my sister out on a date a few days ago and the two of them had been talking to each other on the phone almost every night." Jessica explained. "Krystal has been staying at my place since then so I was aware of it. She wanted some personal space to do her revision and assignments for her thesis this year."

'She went on a date with Amber?'

That question was left hanging in my mind as I felt a sharp jab to my heart. I didn't know how to react as my eyes tried to search for the person who had walked away from the table to answer her call.

"Gwenchana?" Yuri's voice entered my ears as she suddenly put her arms on my shoulders. "Maintain your expression. They can see your disappointed look."

I immediately grinned as Yuri ruffled my hair. Krystal came back soon with a smile, causing me to look down at the food on my plate.

'She looks so happy with just a phone call.'

Yuri's POV

"Must be Amber." I heard Jessica saying it, the moment her sister left the table to answer a phone call.

I could feel Eunjin tensing up beside me as we continued listening at the conversation between Jessica and Victoria. While listening, my eyes automatically turned to observe Eunjin's expression who was also listening in to the conversation. She was frowning a little and bite her lips at one point before she released a small sigh. There was an obvious disappointed look on her face as I leaned in closer to her.

"Gwenchana?" I asked before putting my arms on her shoulders. "Maintain your expression. They can see your disappointed look."

She immediately grinned as I ruffled her hair. 'This girl is very good at hiding her feelings. Her reaction was automatic, even though I could still see the sadness in her eyes.'

Eunjin suddenly looked down at her food and I realised that Krystal had came back with a smile on her face.

'You must be very disapppointed, Eunjin-ah. I can understand what you're feeling.' I thought to myself as I stole a glance at Jessica who was busy talking to Yoona and Krystal.

"You wished you were Yoongie, right?" I heard Eunjin's voice as I turned to face her. "I guess both of us are just not as lucky as Taeyeon.'

I chuckled a little and nodded my head as both of us gave each other a high-five, grabbing the attention of the others but we maintained our poker faces.

Tiffany's POV

I smiled when I saw Eunjin and Yuri suddenly giving each other a high-five. I've been observing their interactions since Krystal left the table to answer her call. Initially, I was just concentrating on Eunjin's expression especially after Jessica blurted out about Amber asking Krystal out. It was very obvious that Eunjin was trying to hide her true emotions but I caught sight of the slight frown and how she bite the corner of her lips.

Then Yuri suddenly leaned in and placed her arm on Eunjin's shoulders. She whispered something to the girl beside her and a grin appeared on Eunjin's face. I've got a strong feeling that Yuri knew about Eunjin's feelings for Krystal.

Just at that moment, Krystal came back with a smile as Eunjin started to look down at her food while I noticed Yuri stealing a glance at Jessica. It was Eunjin's turn to whisper something to Yuri who chuckled, before they gave each other a high-five.

'These two girls have feelings for the Jungs. I can't really help Eunjin much since Krystal is with Amber at the moment. But Yuri... I really hope she will end up with Jessica.'

"Is there something in your mind?"

My train of thoughts was disturbed by Taeyeon's concerned voice as I turned to my side and smiled sweetly at her.

"There's something that I need to talk to you about, Taetae. But not here. Maybe when there's only the two of us." I replied as I leaned in to kiss her on her cheeks, causing her to blush.

************************

"Why do you want to follow me home?"

I folded my arms and frowned at Yuri who had a cheeky grin on her face.

"Because I left my car at the workshop. I came with Taeyeon earlier, remember?" Yuri answered as I squinted my eyes at her.

"You can hitch a ride with your sisters. You stay at the same address with them, right?" I replied sarcasticly as Yuri started to chuckle.

"Soo's car is already full. Besides my two sisters, Victoria and Hyoyeon are hitching a ride with them too. By the way, why can't I stay the night at your place? We can go to work together anyway. Furthermore, I know that you carry a spare helmet with you nowadays." Yuri smirked at me as our conversation was disrupted by the sound or f the other girls coming out from the cafe.

"Hey, Yul. Is it okay with you if I send Ppany home first before dropping you off?" Taeyeon asked but she pouted when Tiffany told her that she could hitch a ride with Jessica.

"It's okay, Taetae. I'm staying with Jessi so I can take her car. You can go home faster if you only have Yuri to send home." Tiffany replied.

"I think Taeng wants to spend more time with you, Fany-ah. No worries. I'm not going home tonight. I'll be staying over at my girlfriend's place." Yuri chuckled as she pointed at me, who was standing beside her.

"YAH!! Since when am I your girlfriend? Idiot." I smacked the back of her head as Yuri rubbed her head and gritted her teeth at me.

"YAH!! I'm still your unnie." Yuri nagged while the rest of the girls started to laugh except for the Jungs.

"Childish." Jessica's comment caused everyone to stop laughing as the atmosphere seemed to drop to an icy temperature. "I'm going home first. Bye, everyone."

Jessica waved before walking away as Krystal just bowed her head and followed her sister to the car. The rest of us just observed until their car zoomed off past us.

"Cold like an ice princess." Yuri commented before sighing.

"Sica-unnie is not that bad. She has a warm heart actually. I think you got on her wrong side, Unnie." Yoona replied as Yuri pouted. "By the way, are you sure you want to stay over at Jinnie's place? Has she agreed to it?"

"No."

"Yes."

Both of us looked at each other and I was about to start nagging when I saw something in Yuri's eyes than prevented me from doing so. I finally agreed to let her follow me home as all of us parted ways. Sunny had went off much earlier since she had a meeting to attend tomorrow morning. After giving Yuri the spare helmet that I took out from my top-box, we rode back and were safely home in less than an hour. As I keyed in the password for my apartment, Yuri was busy looking around the corridor before both of us walked in.

Placing my bike keys on the table, I asked Yuri for the helmet that she was holding on.

"If you need the toilet, it's here." I pointed to the door with black frames that was beside my couch before walking to another white door where my walk-in closet was situated. "Do you want to shower before you sleep?"

I was confused when Yuri kept her silence since she had arrived at my apartment area. I placed the two helmets inside my closet before grabbing a new towel for Yuri. She had taken a seat on the couch beside my bed as her eyes kept moving around to observe every corner of the apartment.

'There must be something in her mind.' I thought to myself as I handed her the towel, shook my head and walked to the fridge that was near to the main door. Taking a bottle of mineral water, I gulped down half of it before placing it back to the fridge.

"How long have you been staying here?"

That was the first question that came out from Yuri's mouth since she arrived. I replied her that I've been renting the place for the past two years, right after I finished my degree.

"Rent? This place is on rental?" Yuri's disbelief look was apparent as I nodded my head. "But you were still studying for your Masters when you started staying at this apartment, right? How did you manage to get money for rental? Your grandparents?"

"Part-time jobs." I answered before taking a seat on the edge of my bed. "I'll never ask for any money from them. Even if they want to give it to me."

Silence filled the room as both of us were lost in our own thoughts. Yuri sighed and threw the towel at me before she started crying.

"Wae, wae, wae?" I asked as I scooted closer to Yuri. "Gwenchana?"

I rubbed Yuri's back as I frowned at the rapid changes of her behaviour. 'What's wrong with this girl? Is she having her mood swings?'

"Why do you want to trouble yourself, Eunjin? You could lead a more relaxed lifestyle without having to work part-time while studying. How do you even manage to do both at the same time? Doing a degree is  already hard enough for me but you did your Masters while working. That's tough, man." Yuri sniffed out the remaining tears in system.

"Relaxed lifestyle? By using the money from my grandparents?" I asked as Yuri nodded her head. "I rather be poor and lead a difficult life than be indebted to that man."

Yuri turned to look at me as I clinched my fist and took a deep breathe. "I went to meet Halmeoni recently. Because she said that she missed me and also because Harabeoji requested me to come over for dinner. Seems like the old man wants me to take over the company as he's getting older."

"Take over his company? As in Hanjin Shipping Corporation?" Yuri's eyes widened as I nodded my head reluctantly. "That's... that's...a huge responsibility."

"I know. He asked me to resign from the workshop and take over his place but I rejected his suggestion, causing him to be pissed off." I explained before I continued to tell Yuri about what happened at my grandparent's house.

"What the hell? What's his problem actually?" Yuri started to be agitated, the moment I ended my story as I blinked my eyes repeatedly at her. "If I was there when he commented badly about your parents, I would have punched him in the face."

"Are you having your menses?" My question made Yuri looked at me as if I had just said something weird. "First, you were all quiet. Then you started crying and now you're being violent."

It took Yuri, 5 seconds to process what I've said before she grinned and started to laugh. Both of us ended up laughing at each other because of the situation.

"You don't have to worry about me. Whatever Harabeoji throws at me, it doesn't affect me even a bit. I'm used to his sarcasm. Furthermore, I'm not going to take over him. Let him find someone else to do that." I said as Yuri nodded her head. "By the way, there's something that I've wanted to ask you since we arrived earlier. Were you affected by what Sica said in front of the cafe?"

"Mwo? What are you talking about? I don't understand." Yuri pretended to look confused as she avoided eye contact with me.

"You were looking upset after Sica said that we were childish. Then you called her an ice princess which Yoona rebutted, saying that you got on Sica's wrong side. I saw the disappointment in your eyes." I expressed my thoughts to Yuri.

"I... I don't know." Yuri took a deep breathe before letting out a sigh. "She... She's always on my mind. Even when I meet up with other girls, at the back of my head, the thoughts of her lingers. Lately, I can't enjoy myself like how I use to. Subconsciously, I kept thinking about how it'll be if Sica knew what I was doing or with who I was hanging out. She's not there physically but I'm always trying to behave around other girls as if Sica was there to watch me."

"This is bad. What happened to the great Kwon Yul? Has she been defeated by the Ice Princess?" I said with a straight face before both of us broke out into laughter. "Can the great Kwon Yul melt the heart of the Ice Princess?"

"Only if she allows me too." Yuri replied before she leaned back on the couch, placing her arm on her forehead. "Do you think it's even possible?"

"If you're sincere about it, I believe that it's possible." I said as I patted her thighs and told her to shower.

************************

Jessica's POV

'Does Yuri really have something going on with Eunjin? Both of them are really close with each other. Too close.'

These thoughts are troubling me and making me lose my sleep as I finally sat up after turning and tossing around on my bed.

"Stupid Kwon Yuri. Messing up with my head even when she's not around." I mumbled quietly. "I think I need a warm glass of milk."

I slipped down my bed, tighten my robe and walked out from my room. I was surprised to see that there was lights coming from the kitchen area. Stealing a glance at the clock in the living room, I saw that it was already 2am.

'Did I forget to switch off the kitchen lights earlier before going to sleep? Or is someone in the kitchen?'

From a distance, I saw a figure standing in front of the fridge with the head leaning inside as if she was looking for something.

"Krystal?"

Krystal's POV

'Stupid Han Eunjin. Why do I even care if there are other girls fangirling over you? And why do I have to feel uneasy when Yuri-unnie mentioned that she was her girlfriend even though I know that it's not the truth?'

"I need a glass of milk to sleep. Hopefully it works." I leaned further into the fridge to look for the bottle of milk.

"Krystal?"

I banged my head against the fridge when I heard Sica-unnie's voice calling me. Turning my head around while rubbing it, I was confused to see my sister wide awake at this hour.

"How come you are awake at this hour, Unnie?"

"I can't sleep. Seems like there's a lot in my mind. What about you?"

"Same." I replied, taking the bottle of milk and showed it to her as Unnie nodded her head. Pouring two mugs of milk and placing it inside the microwave oven, I turned around to face my sister. "What were you thinking about? Work?"

"What are the both of you doing up so late?"

Tiffany's POV

I had just finished showering after returning home 45mins ago. I had spent an extra hour, talking with Taeyeon in her car after all of us went off on our separate ways from the cafe. When I returned earlier, both Jessica and Krystal were already in their own rooms so I didn't want to disturb them. Just when I was about to switch off the lights in my room, I heard voices outside,

Walking out towards the kitchen, I was surprised to see both Jung sisters talking to each other.

"What are the both of you doing up so late?" I asked as they looked at me in shock. I was about to ask further when the microwave stopped and Krystal took out the two mugs of warm milk. "Milk? Both of you can't sleep?"

The two of them nodded their heads while sipping their drink. I just observed for a while, waiting for them to tell me the reason as to why they couldn't sleep but they were just keeping quiet so I took the initiative to ask them.

"Thinking about work, I guess." Jessica replied.

"I must be worried about my thesis." That was the reply from Krystal.

"I think both of you are thinking about someone. Anyway, good night." I said as I waved to them, hiding my grin when I saw the guilty looks on their faces.
