Chapter 66

Hard But Easy

"Eunjin!!! Are you still in the office?"

"Yes." I replied as I stopped in my tracks while trying to listen to an excited bunny rushing through her words. "Yah!! Can you slow down? I can't understand what you're trying to say."

"Can you accompany me to the pub today? I have a strong urge that she's going to be there today." Sunny repeated her words, slowly this time round.

"Are you sure about it?" I asked to reconfirm before pressing the button to open my car door. "I thought you had given up the idea after not seeing her even though you had been to the pub every day for almost two weeks."

"I did gave up. That's why after that two weeks, I stopped going to the pub for 3 days. But I don't know why, I have this sudden urge to visit the pub again." Sunny explained. "So?"

I glanced at the clock on my car dashboard and noticed that it was 15 mins past 6pm. "What time are you going to the pub?" Replying to me that she's planning to be there by 8pm, I agreed to meet her there.

It was almost 7pm when I reached home so I took a quick shower before grabbing anything comfortable to wear. Thinking that it'll be faster if I was to ride to the pub, I grabbed my helmet and left my apartment 45mins later. While making my way to my bike, I typed a message to Krystal to inform her about my whereabouts. I knew that she won't be replying to my message since it'll be 5.45am in New York at the moment so I kept my phone in my jeans pocket.

I arrived at the pub almost 30 mins after 8pm and saw Sunny from a distance. She seemed to be staring at her drink and didn't even noticed my presence until I patted her shoulder. She gave me a weak smile and asked me to place my order.

"Is she here yet?" I asked as Sunny shook her head and I chuckled when I saw her sad expression. "What if she's not here tonight?"

Sunny let out a sigh and shrugged her shoulders. "Yuri and Taeyeon are on their way here. I met them when I finished work earlier and told them about our plan to meet up."

I nodded my head and thanked the waiter who had sent my drinks over. We continued chatting and joked around until I saw Sunny's eyes widened. Since she was seated facing the door, I wasn't aware about what she saw but when I turned around, I finally understood. The girl that she had been waiting for had just walked into the pub with two other girls.

My attention turned back to look at Sunny, who had a huge grin on her face. We continued to observed the 3 girls until they sat down at a table just a few metres away from us. I was quick to tease Sunny and told her not to waste anymore time. She said that she would wait until the girls were settled down before making her move. I nodded my head and we continued our chat before Sunny finally stood up.

"Good luck." I wished Sunny who showed a thumbs up before walking towards the table.

I was smiling while watching Sunny introducing herself and I was really amazed at the way she was able to carry herself with so much confidence. I felt a vibration inside my pocket and was about to take out my phone when my eyes widened as I saw a familiar figure approaching Sunny. After the person tapped on Sunny's shoulder, I saw the surprised look on Sunny's face too.

"Oh man... Why is she here?" I mumbled to myself before I quickly turned my body away when I noticed Hyuna starting to look around. "Please, please, please.. don't come and bother me."

I silently prayed to myself but I guessed my prayers came too late when I felt a hand on my shoulder, along with the familiar voice of Hyuna greeting me.

"Hi Ms Han. It's a surprise to see you here. You must be feeling a little lonely since your friend had abandoned you to make friends with my friends." Hyuna laughed a little as she took a seat beside me. "You don't have to worry. I'll be here to accompany you."

I could only managed a nervous smile as I stole glances at Sunny. I could see that she was a little worried about me but it seemed like the girl that she was interested in was busy talking to her. Hyuna seemed oblivious about the fact that I was getting uncomfortable with her being touchy as she flipped her hair to one side and kept giggling while slapping my arms lightly. I was asking myself as to why she had to laugh at her own words when I didn't even find it funny at all.

"Hey. Sorry that we're late."

A big smile finally appeared on my face as Taeyeon and Yuri appeared to save me. Hyuna was slightly taken aback when they arrived as Yuri sarcastically told her that she could return to her friends and thanked her for accompanying me. Hyuna gave a bitter smile at us before making her way back to her table as I let out a sigh of relief.

************************

"I'm sorry. It was really something that I didn't expect at all." Sunny clasped her hands together to apologise as Taeyeon, Yuri and I just stood in front of her with our arms folded. "I wanted to rush back to our table but Hyomin was introducing herself to me and I was also waiting for her to give me her number."

"What if me and Yuri didn't appear on time? Did you see how Hyuna's hand was all over Eunjin?" Taeyeon started to nag again as I nudged her shoulder.

"Yah, it's not all over. She just hit me continously on my arm while giggling at her own jokes." I rolled my eyes at Taeyeon who just smirked at me.

The 4 of us were now hanging out at my place after we left the pub an hour ago. Sunny had managed to get the girl's contact number and we found out that her name was Hyomin. Earlier on, after Hyuna left the table, I took out my phone to check and found out that Krystal had woken up. After reading her reply, I typed a message to her to inform her about what happened in the pub.

(Flashback an hour ago at the pub)

"Thank you so much for appearing on time." I grinned at Taeyeon and Yuri who just smiled at me before they called out to a waiter to make their order. Taking out my phone, I read the message from Krystal.

Morning, Love. I hope Sunny-unnie will meet the girl so that she won't have to visit the pub again and drag you along. Don't stay out too late even though it's the weekend tomorrow. Miss you so much. - Krystal

A wider grin appeared on my face as I quickly typed a reply.

Guess what? The girl is here and Sunny is already making her move on her. But the bad news is, Hyuna is here too. She saw me alone and had came up to sat down beside me. Luckily, Taeyeon and Yuri arrived just in time to shoo her away. p/s: I miss you too. - Eunjin

Before I could keep my phone in my pocket, a call came in from Krystal as I quickly answered her call.

"Is everything okay?" Krystal's voice was heard over the line as Taeyeon and Yuri looked at me.

Mouthing to them that it was Krystal, they nodded their head while I continued chatting with my girlfriend. I told her that everyting was under control even though I was a little uncomfortable earlier due to Hyuna's presence. Krystal told me to leave the pub immediately, once Sunny was back to our table.

Which was why we decided to head back to my place after Sunny returned to our table.

(End of flashback)

The girls drove their own transport back to my place and since I was riding, I was the first one to arrive so I ordered some fried chicken while waiting for them. When the 3 girls entered my apartment, Taeyeon and Yuri were already nagging at Sunny for what happened earlier. They kept making Sunny feel guilty about the whole situation by saying that something bad might have happened if they didn't arrived in time.

Which was why Sunny was apologising for everything while me, Taeyeon and Yuri pretended to be a little angry at her. We continued our pretense even though we saw her sad expression. The sound of the doorbell took our attention away as I opened it to collect the fried chicken that I had ordered earlier.

"We should stop teasing her. She's really feeling bad about the whole situation." I said as Taeyeon and Yuri meronged at her while Sunny pouted. "We should celebrate the fact that our dear Sunny had managed to get the contact number of her crush. Hopefully she's not someone like Hyuna. Chicken and soju anyone?"

"Call!!"

The 3 of them laughed as I placed the food on the table top. All four of us took our own plates and gathered at the dining table as we started talking about Sunny's crush.

"How is she related to Hyuna by the way?" Taeyeon asked as Sunny took a sip of the soju.

"They have been friends since high school, including the other two girls that were at the pub earlier. Seems like Hyuna is the only active one among them. Hyomin is more like a follower. That's what I observe." Sunny explained before a smile appeared on her face. "But she's cute though."

Yuri, Taeyeon and me laughed out loud when we saw how smitten Sunny looked at the moment. The teasing began as we laughed and chatted until the food finished. Since all 3 of them would be driving, I didn't allow them to drink too much. Sunny kept saying that she could hold her liquor unlike Taeyeon but I refused to give her more.

"You're already intoxicated from earlier." I commented, citing about the fact that Sunny was already feeling excited about getting Hyomins number. The other two girls laughed at my teasing while Sunny just meronged at me. "You guys should make your way home now. It's almost midnight."

"Why are you so worried about the night when it's the weekend? We don't have to report to work anyway." Sunny grinned at me. "Even this married person is not worried about going home early."

Sunny pointed a finger at Taeyeon who just smirked at her. "Fany's aware that I'm with you girls so she's not that worried. Furthermore, I had already messaged her when we were making our way to your apartment. Even if I was too fall asleep here, it shouldn't be a problem."

"It's going to be a problem if all 3 of us fall asleep here. There's not much space her. You should get a new place, Eunjin." Yuri pointed around my apartment before stopping at my direction. "At least bigger than this. And a new car. Stop using Sica's old car which actually belonged to Krystal."

I meronged at her as Sunny and Taeyeon started to nag at me. About how I'm not keeping up my image as the Director of Hanjin.

"I did thought of getting a new apartment and a new car but I decided to wait for Krystal to graduate before doing so. Like I said, that car means a lot to both of us. If I were to get a new car, I don't have enough parking space since each apartment is only allowed up to two space. I used the other one for my bike."

The girls left my place half an hour later as I took a quick shower before climbing on my bed. Grabbing my phone, I scrolled through the messages from Krystal. Just a few basic messages on her daily routine. I did message her earlier to inform that the girls and I were making our way back to my place to chill. She was more than happy to know about it since she wanted me to stay away from Hyuna.

It's been almost 3 months since Krystal left to further her studies. Initially, we did gave each other a call almost every day but after the second month onwards, the calling had reduced a lot. One reason was due to the time difference and another was because both of us were getting busier with our daily stuff.

Krystal had started to adjust to life as a student there. It seemed like she's making a lot of friends, might be due to the fact that she's more comfortable conversing in english and also because she did grew up in California when she was younger. Krystal said that Luna and Sulli reminded her of the time when she went over to Korea, because both of them were still trying to adjust to the culture there.

Things were getting less hectic for me at work even though I still faced some discrimination from the older workers in the company. It was the same with the shareholders too but I didn't bother myself much with their antics. There were times after work when I would stay behind in the office and just stared out of the window. Honestly, I missed having Krystal around, I missed hearing her voice and feeling her warmth near me.

We used to say how much we missed each other through our frequent calls. But when the calls became lesser, we continued expressing our feelings through the messages. We used to be able to message each other almost every hour but just like the calls, the messages started to become lesser too. Nowadays, we would usually message when we both had woken up and just before going to bed to inform about what happened during the day. Like a daily report. There were times when we still called each other which was on the weekends but the conversation won't be too long. Maybe about 1 to 2 hours due to the expensive call charges. Krystal didn't want to burden her parents too much even though I did volunteer to pay for her phone bill.

I was about to doze off to sleep when my phone rang. Stealing a glance at my clock, I was surprised to see Jihyun's name appearing on phone screen.

"Hello?"

"Eunjin. It's me, Jihyun. I'm so sorry to be disturbing you at this hour. Are you already asleep?"

"Not really. I had some guests over at my place earlier which is why I'm still up. By the way, why are you calling at 2 in the morning?"

"My car broke down. I had just arrived back from Japan after a meeting and was on my way home from the airport when it suddenly jerked before stalling. I tried calling my driver but he's not picking up his phone. I remembered you told me before that you took automotive engineering so I presumed that you would know something about car engines."

"Well I did worked at a workshop before. Text me your location and stay inside the car. Locked the doors and don't come out until I'm there. It's dangerous to be alone at this hour."

After ending my conversation with Jihyun, I grabbed a jacket and typed a message to Krystal to inform her about the situation. Just after I sent the message, Jihyun's message arrived with location of her whereabouts. Keeping my phone in my pocket, I grabbed my helmet and my bike keys before heading out.

************************

Krystal's POV

I was making my way to the cafetaria with Sulli and Luna when I felt a vibration from my phone.

Jihyun's car broke down and she asked for my help to look at it. So I'm going out for a while to help her with it. Will be back as soon as I'm done. - Eunjin

I stopped in my tracks and stared at the message. As I mentally calculated the time difference, Sulli and Luna had made their way to my side.

"Wae?" Sulli asked as I turned to look at her before asking her what time it'll be in Seoul. "It should be 2.15am there. Did something happen back home?"

I showed them the message on my phone before Sulli and Luna looked up to face me.

"Who is Jihyun?" Luna asked but before I could reply, Sulli had already answered her on my behalf. "Oh, that airline CEO. The one that came to the wedding with Eunjin-unnie. The one that made you...."

Luna paused her sentence as she grinned dorkily at me. I knew what she had wanted to say even though she didn't complete her sentence. Letting out a sigh, I typed a quick reply to Eunjin.

Message me once you're home. - Krystal

"Let's go." I said to Sulli and Luna after keeping my phone back in my pocket.

We continued to make our way to the cafetaria and queued for the food before making our way to an empty table.

"Are you okay?" Sulli was the first one to break the silence the moment we sat down as I nodded my head. "Are you sure? You've been really quiet ever since that message from your girlfriend earlier."

"There's nothing I can say or do any way. She's already on her way to help that girl in the middle of the night." I replied with a little tint of sarcasm.

"If you're in Seoul right now, will you stop Eunjin from helping her out?" Luna threw a question at me and I was about to rebutt before I paused and slowly shook my head. "If you really did stop her, I don't think it'll reflect good on you anyway."

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"I can understand that you're jealous of the situation but put yourself in her shoe. Her car broke down in the middle of the night. Try to imagine how she's feeling at the moment. Alone and scared in the car. She tried to call her driver but he's not picking up so she had to turn to Eunjin-unnie for help." Luna elaborated further. “If you had stopped Eunjin-unnie from helping her, you’ll only create more friction between the 3 of you.”

"But why Eunjin of all people? She's a CEO. Don't tell me she's got no other friends beside Eunjin." I replied, getting a little defensive at the moment.

"What if that is really the case?" Sulli took the opportunity to question me. "Maybe because of her status, she didn't really have a lot of friends. I've heard people say before. The higher you climbed, the lonelier you'll be."

Both me and Luna turned to face Sulli, who seemed to be in deep thoughts at the moment before she grinned dorkily at us.

"Just don't think too much about it. Furthermore, there's nothing going on between the two of them. Eunjin-unnie even messaged you to inform about what she's planning to do, right?" Luna reassured me as I just nodded my head before the 3 of us started on our meals

"By the way, how come I don't seem to see you talking on the phone with Eunjin-unnie anymore?" Sulli asked when we were almost done with eating. "I still remembered how diligently both of you would call each other every night."

"We've stopped calling each other that often. Because of the time difference. When I'm awake, she's most probably be sleeping and vice versa. There were times when we called each other and she was busy with work while I was busy with classes. Another thing was because of the expensive call charges. You both should know that my parents are already paying a lot for my studies and my accomodation. So I didn't want to add burden to them with my phone bills."

"Didn't Eunjin-unnie offer to pay for your phone bills?" Luna asked as I nodded my head before explaining that I didn't want to burden her too. "But you guys still call each other, right? Or you're only messaging?"

"She will still call me, usually on the weekends." I let out a sigh after saying that as Sulli and Luna waited for me to continue my sentence. "Everytime I hear her voice, it makes me miss her so much. Which is why I would not prolong the conversation so much because I was afraid that I would cry and make her worry."

"So, basically all that explanation about time difference and phone charges are just excuses that you use to justify your actions of reducing the phonecalls. When in actual fact, you were just afraid that you'll miss her more after each call." Luna said as I bite my lips and nodded my head slowly. "Aigoo, Krystal-ah. Why are you so cute?"

Luna poked my cheeks as Sulli giggled at us while I just pouted at the teasing.

"You should tell Eunjin-unnie the truth. I got a feeling that she missed talking to you on the phone. What if she thinks that you don't really care about her anymore?" Sulli threatened me with her words as a frown appeared on my face.

"I don't think she will think that way. Right?" I asked both of them with uncertainty as they just shrugged their shoulders.

"Who knows? What if she thinks that you found someone new here and is slowly trying to let go of her?" Luna added fire to Sulli's words earlier.

"Yah!! I love her a lot, okay." I said quickly before a pout appeared from me. "Maybe I should tell her the truth. I really do miss talking to her though."

The two girls laughed at me as I just stuck my tongue out to them. We finished our food in 30mins time and were making our way back to our next class when I felt vibrations from my phone.

I've finished checking the car. Something wrong with it's spark plug. I've already called a 24hr tow-truck service on her behalf, since Jihyun does not have any contacts of such services. I'll just wait here until they arrived and will go back home straight after that. Have you taken your lunch yet? - Eunjin

By the way, don't worry and think too much. I would not allow anyone to share rides with me. I'm keeping my promise to you. - Eunjin

"Not allow anyone to share ride?" Luna's voice was heard over my shoulders.

It seemed that the two of them had took a peek at my messages by sending behind me.

"Wahhh.. Krystal Jung. I knew you were clingy but I didn't know you were so overprotective. And I didn't know that Eunjin-unnie is so whipped." Sulli commented before both of them started giggling while I rolled my eyes at them.

"I just told her not to have anyone that I'm not familiar with, riding on her bike or car. I'm fine if it's Taeyeon-unnie or Yuri-unnie or whomever that I know of. I just don't like the either of some girls trying to get close to my girlfriend. You should know how kind-hearted she is."

"But you've met that CEO before and it's not like you didn't know her either. Furthemore, how sure are you that Eunjin-unnie was being truthful? You're not there to check on her." Sulli continued to tease as I shook my finger at her.

"I'm not familiar with her and I know that Eunjin won't lie to me." I folded my arm and pouted.

"Arraseo, arraseo... Don't be angry. Didn't Eunjin-unnie told you not to worry too much?" Luna placed her arm on my shoulders and smiled. "Sulli-yah, stop teasing our dear friend here. You're just going to make her worry more and think of unnecessary things."

Sulli laughed out loud and skipped away as Luna told me to ignore her while we continued on our journey back to our respective classes.
