Breakups~

The Emotional Roller Coaster I Call Life With Super Junior

Uki’s POV~

After I hung up on my mother, I called Troy. Maybe I should explain a little bit. Troy’s my boyfriend. We met while I was studying at Pepperdine as an undergrad student. And, well, I’d like to say that it was love at first sight. I mean, the moment I laid my eyes on him, with his brilliant blue eyes that mesmerized anyone within a mile radius of him, his flippy dirty blonde hair, his boyish, mature features, his very athletic build, and his charming personality. Anyone would have fallen in love with him, right? And well, that was the case. Every girl on campus was in love with him. And to think that someone of his stature would go for a freshman like me, who was only 16 at the time, was an absolutely preposterous thought, right? Well, it happened. And we’ve been together for the past two and a half years.

Until now.

“Hey, Troy,” I greeted sweetly when I called him.

“Oh, now you respond?” he asked with an irritated tone.

“Excuse me?”

“I’ve been trying to get a hold of you for the past three days.”

“Oh, I’m sorry. I’ve been in daze for the past two months.”

“Where are you at anyways?”

“I’m visiting my brother in Korea. I told you that already, babe.”

After hearing myself talk for a little while, I realized how foreign English sounded to my ears. Wow. It really has been that long, huh?

“Did I say you could go to Korea without telling me?” Troy asked.

Excuse me?! First of all, I don’t have to tell you anything. And second of all, since when did I need your permission to do anything?” Wow. He was really starting to piss me off.

“Uki. We’re a couple. I’m the boyfriend, you’re the girlfriend. The boyfriend knows everything that goes on in the relationship. It’s just how it works.”

“Troy Marcus Burchett! If I ever hear you say that again, I will disown you!”

Now I was officially pissed.

“Uki, who told you to go to Korea anyways? I certainly recall telling you how important it was that you be here for my mother’s birthday dinner. She was quite upset that you didn’t show,” he went on.

“You mother’s birth—Troy, I can’t believe how stupid you’re being! I’m here to visit my brother. My blood brother. I honestly think that he’s just a little more important to me than your mother’s birthday dinner is.”

“Well! If that’s the way you think, then why don’t you just STAY in Korea?!”

“Troy! What is the matter with you?!”

“What’s the matter with ME? What’s the matter with YOU? Did you think it’d be okay if you just picked up and ran off to Korea? Without even telling me? I thought you knew better than that!”

“Well obviously I didn’t, if I’m dating sucha rude, disrespectful, insensitive idiot such as yourself!” I yelled back at him.

“Well then, if that’s the case, then why don’t we just break up?!”

“Break up? You’re willing to throw two and a half years away because I didn’t pick up a phone call? Don’t you think you’re being just a little irrational?”

“No, Uki, I’m not. Because obviously your brother is more important to you than I am.”

“Well OBVIOUSLY. He’s my BROTHER! This isn’t like you, Troy. What’s the real reason behind why you’re acting like this?”

He sighed.

Then the story came out.

“I’m really sorry, Uki. I just love you too much to act like this toward you.”

“Now there’s the Troy I know and love. What’s this all about?”

“I just thought, that maybe if I acted like this, then it would just be a clean break, no questions asked. That you’d just hate me and hang up the phone.”

“I love you too much to do—did you just say a clean break?”

Silence.

“Troy…Answer me. What do you mean by a clean break?”

“I’m really sorry, Uki.”

“Troy! You’re scaring me! What’s going on?!”

“I…Well…I…Cheated on you.”

I was stunned.

And then—

“EXCUSE ME?! THIS IS HOW YOU’RE GONNA TREAT ME?! I GAVE YOU TWO AND A HALF YEARS OF MY LIFE, AND THIS IS HOW YOU’RE GONNA TREAT ME?!”

“Uki, I’m sorry! Please, just—“

“I don’t wanna hear it! You’re obviously not sorry enough not to do it! With whom?! Was it Samantha?! I’ll kill her!”

“It wasn’t! It was…Well, it was Michelle.”

“MICHELLE PARKER?! I’LL MURDER THAT STUPID !”

“Uki—!”

“And here I was, thinking that she was my best friend and that you were a faithful boyfriend. But OBVIOUSLY I was wrong on both accounts! How long has this been going on for, huh? C’mon, just tell me, since this is the night for the mother lode of all confessions.”

“…Six months.”

“SIX MONTHS?!” I screamed. Then I thought for a moment and something dawned on me. “THIS HAPPENED WHILE I WAS AT UCLA?!”

“I’M SORRY!”

“NO YOU’RE NOT! DON’T YOU DARE TELL ME THAT YOU’RE SORRY! YOU ARE NOT SORRY!”

I flipped the phone shut and hurled it across the room, straight at the wall. It shattered into seven different pieces, all falling onto my bed. I was a mix of emotions.

On the one hand, I was so angry, I could barely see straight.

On the other hand, I wanted to burst into tears.

And on the third hand, I just wanted to crawl in a hole and die.

Two and a half years…I can’t believe that he did this to me after two and a half years! AND WITH MICHELLE!

At the thought of her name, I grinded my teeth. I quickly stood up and threw a punch at the wall. A chunk of the wall went flying. I threw open the door and went straight to the living room. I noticed the guys looked terrified.

“Can I please borrow someone’s phone for, like, two seconds?” I asked, calm feebly coating my voice.

Donghae pulled his phone out and timidly handed it to me. I blinked at his extended hand for a second then looked to his face. His adorable little face. I smiled gently at him and took the peace offering.

And then I dialed Michelle’s number.

~~~~
I’d like to tell you that she and I began recalling all the happy memories from when we were five. And that we laughed it all off. And that I forgave her. And that we lived happily ever after. But that is not the way I handle things when it comes to backstabbing traitors such as herself.
“Hello? Who is this?” her voice sounded.
“Oh, hi, Michelle!” I greeted with false cheer in my voice.
“Uki? Is that you?”
“It sure is, best friend.
She laughed. “Well hi there! How goes things in Korea? How’s Siwon and everybody?”
“Siwon’s good, everybody else is good, I’m good. Ya’ know, things were great over here, UNTIL TROY CALLED ME AND TOLD ME WHAT YOU TWO HAVE BEEN DOING FOR THE PAST SIX MONTHS!”
There was a moment of silence before she said, “Oh my God.”
“DON’T YOU DARE ‘OH MY GOD’ ME, YOU BACKSTABBING ! YOU JUST WAIT! THE MOMENT I STEP FOOT ON AMERICAN SOIL, I’M GOING STRAIGHT TO YOUR HOUSE AND KICKING YOUR SORRY !”
“Uki! I’m SO sorry!”
“I DON’T WANNA HEAR IT! IF YOU WERE REALLY SORRY, YOU WOULDN’T HAVE DONE IT!”
“Uki! I’m—“
I hung up the phone with more ferocity than necessary. Then I turned and handed the phone back to Donghae who looked up at me timidly. Everyone was in shock. More so Alex than anybody, seeing as how she could understand fluent English.
“A—are you okay?” Donghae asked me meekly.
I smiled gently at him. “Yes, Donghae, I’m fine. I just…Ya’ know, found out who my true friends were today.”
He looked at me with a confused expression then turned to Alex. Alex laughed and said, “Uki, you speaking in English is confusing my poor brother.”
I smiled widely and winked at her. “Let’s keep it that way.” Then, turning to Siwon, I reverted back to Korean. “Oppa, how long am I expected to stay here?”
Siwon blinked a couple times. Then enlightenment filled his expression. “Oh~ Um, however long mom and dad want you to stay here I suppose.”
“Aiyoo~” I pouted and blinked for a couple of seconds. “I suppose Cambridge and Harvard will just have to wait.”
Siwon immediately looked surprised. “Cambridge?! Harvard?! My baby sister got into Cambridge and Harvard?!
I laughed at him. “Siwon, there’s a reason why I was chosen to study in America when I was ten.”
“But Cambridge?! And Harvard?!” Yesung exclaimed. Whoa. He came outta nowhere.
“Uki, that’s a HUGE accomplishment!” Ryeowook also complimented.
Aish. I had been so caught up with my own life that I forgot there were fifteen other guys that lived here! Aww. Now I feel horrible.
“Uki, which one are you going to?” Kyuhyun asked me.
I looked at him and smiled a bit. Did I mention that he was very, insanely cute? “I’m not sure yet. I mean, both have asked me to go on full scholarships, but I mean…Cambridge? That’s so far away from home, and I don’t think I’d be able to come here for my yearly visit.”
“It doesn’t matter. Get yourself a good education, baby sister, then when you come back here, with your own law firm open and everything, I promise that the boys and I will hold a HUGE surprise party, just for you,” Siwon said, with one of his infamous smiles that ‘makes girls’ hearts swoon.’
What is it with girls? I’ve seen better. But then again, it is my brother, so I suppose I’m biased? Lol.
“I promise, Siwon.”
