It has been a month since Zelo asked Kang Haeyeon to be his girlfriend, but they were still as awkward as ever.
Zelo was just naturally the awkward type around people he wasn't super close with, and they were still on the "getting to know one another" stage.
Haeyeon, who was normally a cheerful, somewhat-talkative person, felt nervous because Zelo was her first boyfriend. Ever.
Today, they were walking home from school because their houses happened to be very close, and they were both silent. However, both were thinking up a billion worries and thoughts of "Should I say this?" and "Should I bring this up?" as they walked in a rather awkward distance apart.
"Uh.. How was your, uh, day today?" Zelo said, making very awkward pauses very often.
Haeyeon was shocked upon hearing his voice break through the awkward silence. "It was... good. A bit tiring," she said, adding on an awkward chuckle.
Zelo nodded. "I see."
They returned to their silent mode again, with only sounds of their shoes scratching against the pavement filling the air.
Suddenly, as if the heavens wanted to break their awkward moment, it began to pour. Both looked up, confused, because today was a moderately sunny day, and neither were expecting it to rain. However, both knew that they would get drenched if they continued to walk in this downpour.
Without thinking, Zelo suddenly grabbed Haeyeon by the wrist and dragged her to the nearest available shelter, which happened to be a small bus stop with a roof over the seats. He sat down and gently pulled Haeyeon so that she would sit down besides him.
"Where did this rain come from?" Zelo said, in a half-confused, half-annoyed tone. He used his free hand to gently separate the clumps of damp hair in his bangs without realizing that he still had his grasp on her wrist.
"I wonder..." Haeyeon said quietly. She was blushing furiously at the contact. This was their first form of "skinship", although it was almost accidental.
After Zelo arranged his bangs so that the wet pieces of hair weren't poking him in the eye, he put his free hand to rest on the bench they were sitting on. Just then, he noticed that his hand was still around her wrist.
"Oh! I'm sorry," Zelo said, quickly releasing his grasp. He awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck and looked everywhere but at her.
Haeyeon was slightly disappointed that he released his grasp, but she kept that to herself.
"I guess we have to wait here for a bit. Are you okay with that?" Zelo asked, still not looking straight at her.
Haeyeon nodded. "I don't mind."
Suddenly, the two of them chuckled at the situation. Afterwards, there was another pause, but it wasn't as awkward.
"So, do you like rain?" Zelo asked, shifting his sitting position so he was a bit slouching, because this was a more comfortable position
