Kai and Rinyeon had been very close childhood friends. Their parents were best friends, which automatically meant they would be friends. Kai was a sweet friend that Rinyeon appreciated, and Rinyeon was super caring and nice. Even if they had their own set of friends, they would sometimes choose to hang out with each other during breaks in middle school. Kai loved her as a friend and would always protect her. He would be the one who would stand up for her when a girl made a mean comment about her. He would be there for her when she was crying because she got rejected by the guy she liked in elementary school. He would always keep her company whenever she was bored. And she would do the same for him. They were thankful to have each other.

Along the ways, they had fallen for each other. It wasn't unusual, considering that these two had a really close relationship with each other and they had just entered high school. She would join Kai to eat during lunch, which meant that she also sat with his guy friends, Exo-K. They all love her because of her sweet and caring personality. Who wouldn't love someone like that?

At first, the couple was very sweet and lovey-dovey. He cared about her and was besides her even more. She was the sweet girlfriend that every guy wanted, and he was the cool but caring boyfriend that every girl was looking for. They were perfect... but sometimes things don't stay that way.

And over time, Exo-K's popularity began to rise as their faces became more good looking as they were almost at the last stages of puberty. For Kai, his popularity got to his head. When they were eating lunch, he would not pay attention to what Rinyeon would be saying, while the rest of the boys actually had the manners to listen. Whenever he passed by her in the hallways, he would just nod in reply to her wide smiles and big waves before walking away.

But Rinyeon, being the loyal and kind girlfriend she was, never said anything. She was too nice to. Still, she continued to show how much she cared by always sending him texts of encouragement when they have big tests, or little reminders. She would call as well, trying to keep their relationship together, but Kai, being a total jerk now, sometimes even ignored those texts and calls.

One Friday, Kai was over at his friends house hanging out. They were playing sports, computer games or video games. After many hours, they decided to rest a bit. They laid down on the couch and Kyungsoo brought some snacks for them to snack on.

"So do you guys think that new chick is cute?" Chanyeol asked.

"I heard that she transferred from Seoul! And that her dad owns this big company," Baekhyun, the social butterfly, said.

"She's cute, I guess," Kyungsoo said, nodding as he munched on a chip.

"What do you think, hyung?" Sehun asked. They were all hoping he would say something related to Rinyeon. Something along the lines of 'I only look at Rinyeon,' or 'She's nothing compared to Rinyeon'. However, the reply they got was completely different from what they wanted to hear.

"She's really pretty," Kai said, reaching out for another chip.

The rest inwardly sighed. They have been trying to bring the old, caring boyfriend Kai back. They pitied Rinyeon, who was too nice to be ignored by her boyfriend.

"But don't you guys agreed that Rinyeon is the prettiest?" Suho said, and the rest nodded. They honestly thought that was true because Rinyeon was hands down the nicest and selfless girl they knew.

"But the new chick is prettier," Kai said, slouching on the couch in a relaxed position.

The rest of Exo-K sighed. Kai, you jerk.

Just then, his phone vibrated. He checked to see that a text had come from someone.
