Anonymous Friend (친구) - Advice ColumnAnonymous: I am a terrible procrastinator, and I just want to stop doing it! Even when I'm procrastinating, I KNOW that it's wrong but I just continue to do it even when there's something really important that needs to be done. Do you have any tips to help me out?
Friend: Dear Anonymous,
We all have that guilt when it comes to procrastinating, saying things like we’ll do it tomorrow or cram it all in the next day, etc. It really when we end up lying to ourselves and giving up on that thing we promised to do, but there are ways to get over it(:
One thing you can do is to organize yourself and plan ahead. If you sort things out the night before, doing them the next day won’t seem as intimidating and it can help to not only keep you on track, but also help you execute the things easier. Having a check off list can help you carry out the things one by one and after seeing you cross off the things one after another, you’ll just want to finish the list before the day is done(:
Starting off the day with the hardest thing on your menu could also help ease the tension. If you finish the bigger task at hand, the smaller ones won’t seem like such a big deal and you might even be motivated to finish those as well. All it takes is some simple motivation and perseverance(:
And speaking of motivation, that’s also a key factor in procrastinating. If you aren’t pushed by something, like a prize or reward, then most of us won’t be willing to do such a thing we’ve been trying so desperately to put off. Setting up little goals can really help motivate you to put in that extra effort to help you finishing that annoying task that’s being nagging at you since day one :P If you push yourself into finishing it, the extra reward could just be that satisfaction of finally finishing it. You’re probably so used to putting things off that you forgot what it feels like to finish something for once! The minute you finish something and let it sink in, you’ll want to feel that moment of accomplishment and victory again and again. Soon enough, those thoughts of procrastinating should go away after some time(:
Hope this helps!
