It was another battle in PU. Chaeyeon was suiting up and looking at the little window of her waiting room. She was nervous and worried about herself. With every winning battle she had, she was losing control of her powers. Even if she was always driven to her practices, Chaeyeon underestimated what her powers can do to her.

“Heh. No wonder Eomma always told me to be careful…” Chaeyeon mumbled.

“Penny for your thoughts?”

Chaeyeon looked behind but the culprit was in front of her and stole a kiss on the cheek.

“A lot.” Chaeyeon spoke before facing her. “What brought you here, Eun?”

“To see you.” Eunbi answered. “I got Sakura to join me because she was visiting Kaeun on the other side.”

Chaeyeon nodded. It was still five minutes before the battle so they had the time to be close, holding hands and hugging each other tight.

“Eun...why do you…”

“There’s nothing wrong in loving you, Chae…” Eunbi cupped her cheeks. “We share similar powers, we’re both Top Quirks - “

“ - but I’m destructive, you’re not.” Chaeyeon interjected. “What if I get out of control and harm the others and you?”

“You won’t. I know you can control them.” Eunbi added. “You did so to me, remember?”

Chaeyeon gulped and was reminded of that day.

It was Eunbi’s battle against Bae Eunyoung; psychic versus ground. Eunyoung had fists as hard as rock that punched Eunbi, breaking her bones. During Eunbi’s downfall, she managed to use telekinesis and rained stones on Eunyoung. It would’ve only been to beat her but that incident almost killed her because Eunbi’s telekinesis didn’t stop. Eunbi lost control of that battle that the professors had to repel the stones away, even sector leaders Lee Kaeun and Kim Jonghyun had to interfere and alter Eunbi’s control.

None of them were able to stop her but Chaeyeon did through being by her side and checking her out.

“It was out of impulse, Eunbi. I never thought it would work.”

“Please have faith, Chaeyeon.” Eunbi begged.

“I’ll try.” Chaeyeon spoke before shutting Eunbi’s protests through a kiss.

Eunbi’s eyes went wide before kissing Chaeyeon back. She felt hot and queasy but Chaeyeon beside her was always good. Eunbi reached for Chaeyeon’s waist when Chaeyeon teleported away. Eunbi hissed and teleported close to her, losing their distance.

“I’m sorry…” Chaeyeon spoke.

“Don’t worry. I loved it.” Eunbi winked. “Can we have more of this after your battle?”

Chaeyeon nodded. Their names were called so Eunbi gave one more kiss before teleporting to her spot in the audience. Chaeyeon continued to prep herself and breathed.

She prayed she wouldn't lose control.

She teleported in the arena, seeing Kaeun teleport with her. The crowd cheered for Kaeun and Chaeyeon as the two prepared their stances for battle. Chaeyeon drew her fists whereas Kaeun’s brown eyes changed into red and she created a fiery armour for herself. 

Professor Lee blew the whistle and the two Lees clashed and teleported around the arena while delivering their attacks. Kaeun showcased all elemental abilities and Chaeyeon would throw them back, aiming successfully in countable times but mostly getting hit herself. The two got to different sides. Kaeun mellowed her armour down and Chaeyeon charged despite her bleeding mouth.

She did a telekinetic blast and threw Kaeun across the field. Kaeun teleported away and did the same thing, causing Chaeyeon to hit herself on the wall. Everyone cheered for Kaeun as Chaeyeon tried to get up. Kaeun noticed Chaeyeon’s look and her armour blazed again.

“Something’s wrong.” Eunbi spoke in her seat.

The other Top Quirks looked and noticed Chaeyeon’s eye color changed into gray. She also smirked and glared at Kaeun directly. She charged at Kaeun, using punches and kicks to fight her.

“Did her powers fade?” Yujin was shocked. 

“No…” Eunbi gulped. “She’s using telepathy. She’s controlling Kaeun’s mind not to make any moves, allowing herself to beat her.”

Chaeyeon chuckled as she threw Kaeun like a sack. Kaeun got up with a bloody head and mouth and everyone was torn. They were silenced in two ways because a sector leader was beaten by a Top Quirk and because an outcast was beating the life out of the lone yet most powerful students in PU. Amid that, Kaeun wasn’t giving up and charged, only to be frozen by Chaeyeon again.

She held Kaeun’s head and Kaeun struggled, her veins popping out. Kaeun was drawing more blood and tried to heal herself but Chaeyeon’s reflexes were faster. Kaeun was unable to make another move as she felt Chaeyeon’s telekinetic powers destroy her brain. 

“She’s out of control again, Professor Kim!” Professor Bae spat.

Kaeun gritted her teeth and counterattacked Chaeyeon. It caused them to be thrown to different sides, coughing blood and gasping for air. 

“She’s going to kill Kaeun-unnie!” Yunjin spat and teleported to the arena.

She teleported towards Chaeyeon but suffered the same fate as Kaeun’s. The witnesses realized that battle will be merciless that Kaeun’s closest friends went to stop Chaeyeon with useless efforts. Kaeun managed to get up as Chaeyeon generated a large telekinetic ball to hit the witnesses who interfered. Kaeun teleported all of them back to their seats and imitated Chaeyeon’s power. The clash of the two balls would’ve blown up the arena but the professors protected the students and the infrastructure. 

The area cleared out after a few minutes and the professors cleared the protection out. Kaeun was standing while Chaeyeon was down, her face flat on the ground. Everyone cheered for Kaeun’s victory but with a glare, Kaeun shut them up. She looked back at Chaeyeon and prepared herself again. Chaeyeon rose up vomiting blood and smirked.

“Is this all you got, unnie?” Chaeyeon raised as a black energy surrounded her.

Kaeun spat blood and a mix of energies surrounded her; a manifestation of being a manipulator of all elements. Their energies roared like dragons and everyone was in awe and horror.

“Top Quirks!” Professor Kim snapped. “Engage!”

Forty-four students jumped out from their seats and faced Chaeyeon. Kaeun weakened and almost fainted when Sakura caught her. Three of them went to her side and Sakura lays her down gently, adding a caress on her face.

“We’ll take care of her, Miyawaki. Join with the others,” said Jonghyun.

Sakura sped towards Chaeyeon and pinned her on the wall. She had a menacing look, almost beating Chaeyeon’s. “She trusted you, Chaeyeon!”

Chaeyeon broke off and screamed, holding her head. Her subconscious was battling with her powers but she was losing it. She threw Sakura off and the latter hit a wall. The force was unbelievably strong that Sakura couldn’t get up. Chaeyeon used the same attack on the rest of the Top Quirks and they met Sakura’s fate. 

The third group of Top Quirks remained standing. Sakura got to join them for a while, holding her wincing waist. They cautiously faced Chaeyeon as she was holding her head again, screaming her pain. 

“Chae...please don’t do this…” Eunbi drew closer first.

“Be careful, Eun!” Hyewon spat as she prepared her fiery fists. “Especially you, Kkura!”

“I can still...fight.” Sakura huffed.

Chaeyeon growled and pushed them away with a telekinetic blast. They were tossed off but were quick to get up,

“Wake the up, Yeon!!” Chaewon blasted her light beam as Chaeyeon charged at her. “Min, you stay and heal Kkura!”

Chaeyeon punched Chaewon away. Nako and Hitomi get their turn to attack and Chaeyeon teleports their attacks back. Wonyoung freezes Chaeyeon but gets teleported to her own trap.

“Flinch, Chaeyeon!” Yena raises her hand up. 

Chaeyeon counterattacked Yena, throwing her frozen body towards Yuri, unabling the latter to do her wind attack. Yujin creates a huge water barrier and floods it towards Chaeyeon, with Hyewon zooming in to blast a fireball. Chaeyeon was hit with those attacks and was stuck in a heated haze, causing her skin to burn. 

“Now, Eunbi!” Yuri pushed her with her wind.

Eunbi got to a hissing Chaeyeon and held her head. Eunbi gasped at the immense power Chaeyeon had but she would never back down, even if it means killing herself just to bring Chaeyeon back.

“Chae...please…” Eunbi cupped her cheek. “Wake up…”

Chaeyeon’s gray eyes ablaze but as she saw Eunbi’s face, she remembered some things.

She remembered her family, especially with their training, their bonds…

...and the time Chaeyeon almost killed her family with her powers.

She recalled being young and the bodies of her family were on the grass. Her father huffed as he had baby Chaemin in his arms while her mother wept as she held Chaeryeong.

It was a manifestation of her uncontrolled powers, hence to why she was sent to PU.

Chaeyeon-ah…

"EOMMA!!" Chaeyeon screamed as Eunbi had to calm her down.

Eunbi counterattacked Chaeyeon's telepathy. Chaeyeon continued to scream and feel control take over again. Eunbi continued to counterattack as her nose bled. She ended up screaming with her, causing a great impact around the arena. Most of the students and faculty fell on their butts whereas Kaeun was protected by her peers, especially by Sakura.

The smoke faded again and everyone saw Chaeyeon collapsed in Eunbi's arms. Eunbi continued to pant, just like how her nose continued to bleed.

"Yoo Yeunjung, Ha Sungwoon, Kim Minju, and Lee Eunsang!" Professor Kim yelled across the arena. "Heal your respective Top Quirks!"

The four nodded and went to their members. Minju rushed to her own, even sparing to go to Sakura to heal her.

"Love." Sakura stopped Kaeun from healing her. "You need to rest."

"It's okay, Kaeun-nim. I'll heal her," said Minju.

"Come on, Kaeun. Don't be stubborn." Jonghyun spoke. "Listen to them."

Kaeun nodded and slumped. Minju rushed to Chaeyeon and Eunbi, healing Eunbi first before using her full powers to mend Chaeyeon. Eunbi remained by Chaeyeon's side and held her hand, praying for her recovery. The rest of their fellow Top Quirks gathered and checked on Eunbi and Chaeyeon.

"Done…" Minju huffed as Chaewon consoled her.

"Yeon?" Chaewon flashed a light from her finger and checked Chaeyeon's eyes.

Chaeyeon blinked and everyone collapsed in relief before gathering to her. She had a distressed look upon seeing her fellow Top Quirks, the arena, Kaeun…

...and Eunbi.

"I lost control, didn't I?"

They nodded lightly. Chaeyeon sat up as Eunbi hugged her.

"It's okay. Your powers made you do it so it's not your fault." Eunbi whispered.

"Eun...did you…" Chaeyeon spoke.

"I did. I had to counterattack by transferring your powers to me because you couldn't control it anymore." Eunbi spoke. "I'm sorry. It was the only way to save all of us."

Chaeyeon was teary. If Eunbi had taken her powers, she was now completely powerless. She would have her miserable life return. She had gotten used to it but the thought really hurt her.

"So I'm out of this university now? I don't have powers anymore."

"No." The professors got to their spot as Kaeun and her fellow sector leaders were with them. "You happened to develop a power of your own."

Chaeyeon was confused. It was then that Kaeun drew closer and created a dark ball in her hand. Like a puppet, Chaeyeon managed to mimic her.

"B-But...isn't this a bad thing?" Chaeyeon asked.

"Despite the negative connotations, darkness has a powerful and positive spiritual aspect. It has gifts for you...if you're willing to explore it." Kaeun spoke.

"That's my line, Lee." Professor Kim chuckled then approached Chaeyeon. "But Kaeun's right, Chaeyeon. Darkness is infinite fertility. Everything that has not yet come into being is held in darkness; the seed that will become a flower, the child who is not yet born…" She held Chaeyeon's shoulders. "...and the Top Quirk that will have infinite possibilities in mastering her powers and more."

Chaeyeon teared up and her fellow Top Quirks gathered around to hug her, consoling her off of her fear about the future.

The battle was a draw. The casualty was severe but to the least they resolved it for trainings to come.

"Unnie! Come see!" Yena pulled Kaeun towards the field.

Kaeun calmed her dongsaeng down as they reached the field. The other Top Quirks of their sector were there as Chaeyeon was in the field, practicing her dark powers to good use.

"Love." Sakura went to hug Kaeun.

"Hi." Kaeun grinned as they looked at each other. "How's training?"

"Great. Kwangbae wanted you to bring Chowon, though."

"She'll catch up. She'll assist me in teaching all of you since the professors are having their meeting."

Sakura was giddy and pulled Kaeun to join with the rest of the Top Quirks. Kaeun managed to greet them and got hugs, kisses, and hi-fives from them.

"She's doing well." Kaeun spoke. "Get to the field in ten seconds and have a friendly spar."

Everyone nodded and went to their spots using their powers, just in time for Chaeyeon to finish her training. She looked to the side and saw Kaeun nod but she froze as Eunbi placed her hands on her head.

"Cheeky." Chaeyeon grinned the blasted her with a dark ball.

Chaeyeon and Eunbi are reunited with the rest of the Top Quirks, who were always doing their best in their training, indicating their determination to continue being the Top Quirks of their sector. For Chaeyeon, she gained confidence and continued to maintain her character. Despite her dark powers, she was willing to learn many things in PU. 

These 12 members of the 3rd sector may have differences but they aim for teamwork and they will continue to train their best as Top Quirks.
