Kyuhyun didn’t even try to avoid the hard punch that was directed to his jaw. He fell down the floor and didn’t dare to lift himself up. He just stayed there, lying on the floor with his eyes looking down, tears streaming down his eyes.

“You were supposed to take care of him!” Siwon yelled, rebel tears falling down his face. “YOU PROMISED TO TAKE CARE OF HIM KYUHYUN!”

Kyuhyun covered his eyes. He was exhausted, he was tired. Kyuhyun wanted to die just because Siwon was right. He promised to take care of Hyukjae, the love of his life. And yet, that perfect wife was just kidnapped in front of his eyes. He could do nothing to save him. Kyuhyun wasn’t enough.

Siwon grabbed Kyuhyun’s collar and lift him up roughly, landing another hard punch against his jaw, not having enough when Kyuhyun fell down again, blood dripping out of his lip already. “You only had to do that Kyuhyun, I trusted you the most precious thing in the whole world, you promised you would take care of him!”

Kyuhyun closed his eyes, waiting for another punch. He deserved it, he wanted Siwon to keep punching him. But it didn’t come and when he opened his eyes, he found Siwon on his knees, covering his face as he cried silently.

Kyuhyun looked up with his blurry sight and he could see Heechul being hugged by Hangeng, they were both crying and Kyuhyun looked down again, not even intending to stand up. He didn’t deserve it, after letting Hyukjae get away from him like that, he didn’t deserve anything good.

Siwon ran his fingers through his hair in frustration, screaming loudly as he hit the floor with his fist, not minding the fact that it was starting to bleed.

Heechul quickly ran to Siwon’s side. “Siwon, god… don’t hurt yourself like that…,” she took his hands and started cleaning the blood with a napkin.

Kyuhyun couldn’t help but chuckle bitterly. Deep in their minds, he knew, his parents blamed him too for that. And maybe it was like that, maybe it was Kyuhyun the guilty one.

Hangeng walked towards him and looked down at his almost lifeless body. “Stand up Kyuhyun,” he ordered and Kyuhyun let his head fall down in misery, not even being able to articulate a single word. “I said stand up Kyuhyun!”

Everyone went silent. Hangeng was furious and it was never a good signal. But Kyuhyun didn’t have the strength to do as he was told and he didn’t flinch when Hangeng lifted his body harshly by the collar, making him stand weakly on his feet.

“Do something Kyuhyun, don’t stay here crying because that won’t fix anything. Find Hyukjae, make sure he’s fine. If something happens to him Kyuhyun, I swear I won’t care about you being my son, I’ll ruin your life,” Hangeng eyes were serious, his gaze was piercing Kyuhyun’s soul.

Heechul and Siwon could only see the scene silently and anxiously. Siwon looked carefully how Hangeng let go of Kyuhyun and the other stumbled back, looking down and standing there weakly.

Kyuhyun had never seemed so vulnerable and fragile as that very moment.

“Ruin my life, you say?” It was a mere whisper. Kyuhyun’s voice was hoarse and husky from so much crying. He looked up and looked at Hangeng. “Don’t you think my life is ruined already? I would give everything I have just to have Hyukjae safe, I don’t even care if he’s not with me! I just want him to be fine!”

The tears streaming down Kyuhyun’s eyes made everyone know he was being death serious.

“You can’t ruin my life, father. Because I ruined it myself already,” Kyuhyun ran his fingers through his already messy hair and looked down, pulling his hair harshly, as if punishing himself. “As if I wanted this to happen…,” he mumbled, his voice breaking not allowing him to talk even more. “Hyukjae…,” it was a mere whisper, Kyuhyun only wanted to call for him.

Siwon stood up and dried his tears. “We can’t stay here forever,” he said determined. “I’ll find him, and when I do,” he looked at Kyuhyun intently, locking his gaze with the other. “I’ll make sure he never leaves my side, so prepare Kyuhyun, because if you can’t protect Hyukjae, I will.”

Kyuhyun’s body was shaking. The idea of loosing Hyukjae, of not being enough to protect him, broke him. It made Kyuhyun break down and crash into small pieces. He couldn’t stand it, the fact that he couldn’t protect the one he loved.

He realized, how weak he was in reality. Kyuhyun realized he wasn’t strong enough. It hurt. It hurt him to know that maybe Hyukjae would be safer with Siwon by his side. It hurt to know he didn’t fight hard enough. It broke him to realize that he, the man that swore to spend the rest of his life by Hyukjae’s side, was not worth such a blessing.

Siwon left their house without another word and Heechul walked towards her son, not being strong enough as to hug him. “Kyuhyun… this is not your fault,” she said in a soft whisper, barely touching her son’s arm to comfort him, even if it was just slightly.

Kyuhyun looked at his mother. The tears came out automatically and he looked down. He didn’t say anything and just let his father drag his mother away. Kyuhyun wasn’t sure. He didn’t know whose fault it was but he was going to find out. He couldn’t lose time like that. He had to do something to find Hyukjae.

It took Kyuhyun exactly a minute to realize he was alone in their house and he quickly grabbed his phone, making as many calls as he could that would be helpful.

It had been only five hours, but Kyuhyun felt like it had been an eternity already. He couldn’t help but feel like dying. He knew he shouldn’t be left alone, because he looked at the knives in their house and he couldn’t help but think about killing himself.

Shaking his head, Kyuhyun would make some calls to private detectives, the police, friends, anyone that could help him find his beloved wife.

His heartbeat didn’t stop and when the clock hit midnight, Kyuhyun was still going out to look around by himself. He couldn’t waste any minute. Everything could go for the worse any second that he spent without finding Hyukjae.

No one had called him yet to ask for money, and he was pretty sure Siwon didn’t either. Kyuhyun was sure he could give his life in exchange of seeing Hyukjae free.

“Hyukjae…,” he would whisper like a mantra, groaning lowly because he was too tired and his sight was so blurred that he couldn’t drive anymore.

Hours passed and Kyuhyun couldn’t even dare himself to close his eyes and sleep. He was tired, exhausted, his body hurt and his head felt like exploding. But Kyuhyun couldn’t sleep. He couldn’t stop thinking about Hyukjae. Every time he closed his eyes, the image of Hyukjae asking for help came in his mind and the tears would stream down his face.

His eyes were red and swollen. They hurt so much and Kyuhyun couldn’t do anything, he didn’t want to do anything to get it better. He didn’t deserve it.

“You can’t do anything anymore, Mr. Kyuhyun, Just wait and let us do our work,” the police had told him and Kyuhyun hated the fact that they were right, that Kyuhyun couldn’t do anything but wait.

Useless. Kyuhyun was completely useless.

He walked into Hyukjae’s room and laid down that bed he had never been on. He closed his eyes and cried silently, covering his eyes with his arms as he smelled Hyukjae’s sweet scent. He hated it. He hated not being able to do anything to protect the love of his life. “Hyukjae…,” he sobbed, letting the tears stream down his eyes mindlessly. “Hyukkie… please be alright… please…”

Kyuhyun screamed, noticing how that didn’t help at all. He kept on screaming, covering his face with his hands to try to stop the tears. Why was this happening to them?

Was it Kyuhyun’s fault? Was it because of him?

The mere thought haunted him down. What if it was someone taking revenge on Kyuhyun?

If only Kyuhyun could be worth enough to protect Hyukjae…

He didn’t mind listening the door of their house opening. He didn’t care. If the kidnappers were behind him, he would go without fighting, as long as he were by Hyukjae’s side, then he would be happy for that. How much Kyuhyun wished for him to be kidnapped by the same persons in that very moment.

But it wasn’t the kidnappers and Kyuhyun didn’t mind taking his arm away from his eyes. He didn’t have any motivation to look at someone else.

There was a new weight in the bed by his side and he couldn’t be more disappointed knowing it wasn’t Hyukjae’s.

“I hired private detectives…,” a manly voice sounded and Kyuhyun did nothing. “They say I can’t do anything else…,” the voice broke and it reminded so much of himself that it hurt.

“I should die…,” Kyuhyun suddenly whispered and even him was surprised he said it out loud.

The weight was lifted and the next thing Kyuhyun knew was that he was on the floor, panting harshly and with blood flowing down his already broken lip. He stayed there, closing his eyes and enjoying the pain. He didn’t dare to see Siwon’s face. He didn’t want to because seeing Siwon was a reminder of how useless he was as a husband. It was a reminder that he didn’t fulfill the promise he swore he would.

Kyuhyun came back to break promises once again.

“Say that again and I’ll make sure you die in my hands Kyuhyun,” Siwon threatened with a husky and broken voice, him too, had been crying ever since he knew what had happened.

It was already morning of the next day. Hyukjae’s father’s body would be buried in a few hours but Kyuhyun didn’t dare himself to go there. Not when he promised that man to protect the most precious thing he left behind. Kyuhyun couldn’t face Hyukjae’s father like that.

“Kill me… please…,” Kyuhyun whispered, not opening his eyes and letting the tears stream down endlessly. He closed his eyes, waiting for Siwon to fulfill his promise.

His body was thrown to the wall and Kyuhyun smiled bitterly, waiting for more pain. It made him forget slightly how much he was dying inside.

A hard punch landed on his stomach and he flinched, covering it with his hands by reflex before falling on his knees, coughing because he lost his breath. “I TOLD YOU TO SHUT UP!” Siwon yelled, also falling on his knees in front of Kyuhyun; his hands covering his face as his tears streamed down along soft sobs. “What will I do then, Kyuhyun? If you’re gone…,” he whispered lowly. “I’ll lose everyone… I’ll be alone… My family rejected me… My father is gone… my other half has been kidnapped… What will I do if you also die? Kyuhyun… you can’t…”

Finally Kyuhyun dared himself to look up and he couldn’t stand it anymore. His loud cries and sobs were the only noise that echoed through the entire building. A man was crying; crying for the love of his life that had been taken away, that could be suffering. “I can’t Siwon…,” he whispered in between sobs. “I can’t protect him… I can’t…”

Siwon’s eyes were as swollen as Kyuhyun’s, his hands were also shaking, his clothes were as misaligned as Kyuhyun’s, his body was as exhausted. “If you can’t…,” Siwon whispered. “Who will? I’ve proven myself I’m also not enough… You have to be strong Kyuhyun… because we’ll find him… and you have to fight against me to take him back…,” he ran his shaky hand through his hair in frustration. “We’ll find him safe… and we’ll fight... we’ll prove we can protect him… we can do that Kyuhyun… you have to live…”

Kyuhyun’s body couldn’t take it anymore. It had been days without sleeping, without eating. He had run for hours before, he had been through so much that he couldn’t take it anymore.

It was Siwon who had to call for an ambulance when Kyuhyun fainted, his tears still streaming down his face; his face contorted into a painful gesture.

Kyuhyun was suffering. He was dying without Hyukjae.
