Inhale.

Exhale.

Adrenaline pumps into her vessels as her heart contracts to accommodate more blood volume. Her breathing speeds up, growing harsher as she struggles to take in more air into her hungry lungs. She wants to scream, but she cannot. Her vision blurs as her body goes on autopilot, compensating for the exhaustion that begins to cripple her senses. And despite a losing battle, she urges on with the performance.

They are outnumbered and yet, here she remains with her team, fighting her own weaknesses to cope with the task. She manages to follow along with her teammates, who despite their hectic schedules, remain in manageable shape – unlike her. ‘I can still do this!’ she tells herself as her body maintains its limbo, her arms and legs moving along with the choreography despite having her mind locked in a breakdown. It is a trait she has learned since young, a trait she follows through as her group performs before thousands of spectators screaming each of their names.

She feels everything around her numb as they hit the notes of the chorus. Her vision worsens as her heartbeats pound, threatening to burst from her ribcage anytime. She thanks her angel for the tinted glasses, at least it keeps her from squinting too much because of the blinding strobe of lights that flicker an annoying dance.

As the pace of their music begins to pick up, she finds herself unable to cope. Inhale. Exhale. ‘Breathe, Soojung. Breathe.’ A voice inside her tells her. ‘Breathe. I’m here.’ A
