Miyoung’s heart pounds a deafening rhythm as she reaches out for Sooyeon. Times seems to slow as she closes in on the fragile figure. Arms wrap around a petite waist and Miyoung finally lets out the breath she is holding when she manages to keep Sooyeon from falling to her untimely death. She clutches onto the older woman like her life depended on it.
“Sooyeon, don’t.” Miyoung mutters against Sooyeon’s ear, “please don’t do this. Let’s talk this out, please.” She waits for the older one to respond, react, but finds silence in their company instead. Sooyeon merely stays still as a statue, unmoved by the younger woman’s pleas.
“Can we talk this out? Back here?” Miyoung negotiates, hoping that Sooyeon would relent and turn away from this dangerous position they are currently in. “Please?”
Sooyeon finally moves, eyes locking with Miyoung’s imploring orbs. The Tigress’ piercing gaze does not look intimidating this time as Miyoung stares back. Then, Sooyeon turns to face her and Miyoung is quick to help her back into safety with Sooyeon clutching Miyoung’s shirt as she climbs over the railing and onto solid concrete.
“Talk to me?” Miyoung asks, her voice almost a whisper as she cups Sooyeon’s cold face. The hands clutching Miyoung’s shirt tightens as the Tigress evades the younger one’s gaze. “Sooyeon, please, tell me what’s on your mind.”
“I want to die…”
Miyoung almost misses it, for the response was so feeble it almost got lost in the howling wind. Heartbeat throbs as she takes in the Tigress’ resolve, but thoughts of a little cub slumbering in a room downstairs prompts Miyoung to intervene.
“What about Soojung? And y-your child? The one growing inside you?”
The first tear falls, running a trail down Sooyeon’s cheek until it ended up on Miyoung’s hand that was still cupping the Tigress’ cheek. A sob follows and more tears begin their journey down Sooyeon’s face, wetting Miyoung’s hands. Sooyeon’s grip on Miyoung’s shirt trembles as her sobs grow louder.
Gentle hands caress the tears away before they move to pull Sooyeon in a tight embrace. Miyoung allows the Tigress to soak her shirt with her tears, hoping that the older one’s catharsis would help relieve the disturbing thoughts plaguing her.
They end up sitting on the cold tiled floor of the rooftop after some time; Miyoung cradling a sniffling Sooyeon who burrows herself into Miyoung’s shoulder, her body straddling Miyoung’s lap. Hands run soothing circles as Sooyeon slowly succumbs to exhaustion. Miyoung engulfs her in a protective embrace from the cold winds as Sooyeon drifts back into slumber.
