Mi Sun’s POV

She stood , staring at herself in her bathroom vanity. Wondering if she was pretty, wondering if her body was the kind men liked.

There was nothing wrong with her that could be seen, but she was becoming more and more annoyed with the amount of guys that hit on her daily. She’d received three phone numbers yesterday, two cat calls, and one old man that tried feeling up her on the bus.

It was going on three years, this new allure she had towards men. It was getting out of control she thought. Maybe I should get plastic surgery. Can they dim down peoples looks? She laughed at her sudden arrogance. She didn’t really mean it in a narcissistic way, but she couldn’t think of any other reason for getting so much attention.

Throwing out such ludicrous thoughts she walked into her small bedroom and started getting ready for work.

Barely 4 a.m., it was still dark outside. She had only gotten three hours asleep last night, having returned home around midnight.

Such long hours and such a short sleep schedule was starting to get to her she noticed. Her bones ached daily. She often had to apply hot & cold patches on her tender muscles.

It couldn’t be helped though, she was still new to her job. It’d only been a month since she started her on sight training. She needed to work at the park to get the last few credits to graduate. It was a tiresome gig, but she was happy to be able to work doing what she loved; working with nature.

She lathered lotion all over herself then got dressed in lacey underwear and the Nature reserves customary uniform of fitted tan shorts that hit just past mid-thigh; a matching tan button up shirt with a bunch of logos about the park, her employer, and her school; a plane tank under; she lastly pulled on matching work boots.

She wasn’t a fan of the shoes, they were a bit too manly for her taste. She did however like the rest of the outfit. The shirt fit just right letting her curves show while leaving just enough to the imagination, the shorts were long enough to not be ty and just short enough to let her long creamy legs breathe easy.

After applying a bit of BB cream and bright green eye shadow, she grabbed a brown over the shoulder bag and headed out the door. A few meters from the apartment she shared with her dad she stood waiting for the next bus to come. On time as usual she got on and sat next to a window getting comfortable for the hour drive to her destination.

She looked out at the dark sky, noting a bit of orange on the horizon. She smiled. Getting to watch the sunrise everyday was another reason she was thankful for her job.

With the last bit of free time she had before she got off of work, she couldn’t help but let her mind wonder to the night before.

Flashback

She was just relieved of work. Taking off her work shirt, she folded it and stuffed it in her bag. It was a little earlier than usual; about two hours earlier than normal. She decided she wasn’t ready to go home just yet. She’d rather spend her time with nature.

Even though it was what she did all day, she was usually too busy with tasks to freely enjoy her surroundings. Hoping to do the opposite on her time off, she trekked into the darkness only using the moon as her flashlight.

Some women, and even men would have been scared doing this, but to her it was like walking through her own house. Of course that’s pretty much what the park was; her second home. She spent so much time here, even before she got the gig as an ethology trainee, her father had brought her countless times as a child.

Following a path she had discovered on her first week working, she was led through thick foliage only to be let out in a more open area in the shape of a circle. It was slightly cooler than the rest of the forest; something she found interesting. She’d have to look into it she thought.

The cool air rolled and enveloped her body causing goose bumps to rise on her arms. She hugged herself wondering if she should have left her shirt on. Shaking her head she looked toward the stunning pond the coolness was coming from.

The water was a deep blue from the dark sky. During the day it was crystal clear, but she couldn’t help but like its night look more. It was romantic and mysterious. Straight out of a fairy tale.

She had come here planning on sitting at the water’s edge to admire its beauty, but actually being there she felt this undeniable pull. It was as if the murmur of the waterfall hitting the pond was calling to her.

Without realizing, she had pulled off her shoes and socks. Throwing her tattered watch on top of her shoes, she patted into the surprisingly warm water.

She had been here a few times since discovering it, but had never actually entered. The warmness of the water and the coolness of the air caught her of guard. I hope I don’t get sick. Yet even with this worry on her mind she couldn’t pull herself away. Instead she kept going deeper, getting closer to the waterfall.

When it was in reach she lifted her arm letting the water flow through her open fingers. It was also warm. Smiling she looked up at the round moon wondering who else was looking at, and if they were experiencing something as magnificent as she was.

Pleased at having touched the white water cascade, she dipped down letting the pond flow over her head. Even with the moonlight lighting up the area, it was too dark for her to see far into the water. Kicking her legs around, she explored with her hands. The pond wasn’t very deep, but it did reach up to her bust. And that was saying something seeing as she’s 170cm.

Starting to run out of breath she kicked upward, breaking the surface crown first. Still facing the waterfall she gulped in air greedily. Then she swam toward some jutting boulders to her left. Pulling herself up, she plopped onto one of the rocks letting the waterfall hit her right shoulder.

She ran her hand through her short hair trying to shake off excess water. A cool breeze hit her, making her hug herself in an attempt to hold in warmth. Then the waterfall hit her again quickly warming her up.

She smiled, but was caught off guard again by what sounded like a low growl. It sounds close. Her eyes widened at her stupidity of venturing into the dark forest alone. Even if this is a reservation there are still dangerous animals about Sun Mi!

Cursing herself she looked around worried. Not finding anything out of the ordinary she sat back once more comfortable. Lifting her head, eyes closed, she let the moon immerse her in its light. Her peace was soon i
