Only A Dream

Dear Donghae

Hate U Love U - Super Junior

Donghae's POV

Sleeping was my only escape. All I had to do was close my eyes and dream of everything that was supposed to be happening. I just go with wherever my subconscious would take me.

Waking up was the worst part. It was when the truth comes crashing down on me, slapping me with reality. I sat up and scrunched my eyes, adjusting to the bright sunlight flooding through the window. I dreamt of the same thing for the past few days.

But everything was left in vain. My hopes came tumbling down like Lego bricks, like cards on a deck. Here I was, feeling bitter about my imaginary baby, the baby I had thought was true, the baby I had began to love. But then I realized the baby was unexisting. Keep yourself together, Donghae! It's not the end of the world.

My thoughts were disturbed by loud clanging outside. What were the members doing this early in the morning? I stood up and walked carelessly to the door, my blanket trailing behind me.

"Oh! There's Donghae!" Eunhyuk pointed to me. He held a girl with his other hand, assisting her as she walked. "Ya, Monkey! Min Yu's not paralyzed. She can walk," I scolded while descending the stairs step by step.

"She can say my name already!" Eunhyuk ignored my statement and almost cried with his discovery. "She's just recovering from a trauma, not amnesia," I grumbled.

Heechul thumped my head from behind. "She can hear you both you know," he commented. "When will she go back to normal?" I asked. "As soon as she snaps out of her little trance. She's undergoing medication, but it's still better if we treat her like what she used to be," he explained.

"But she's starting to respond again. She called me by my name a while ago," Eunhyuk pushed me aside and scooted closer to Min Yu.

"What about Min Young?" I demanded and stood up to walk over the kitchen. "She talks to her sister like nothing's wrong," Siwon replied. I opened the fridge and checked the contents if something appeals my tastebuds, but all we have is water...what a sad life.

I took the pitcher out and filled a glass to the brim. "Hyung, I'm just gonna go back to sleep," I heard Eunhyuk excuse himself from Heechul.

The springs of the couch squeaked after Eunhyuk has left. "I'll head to the gym now," Siwon stretched and took his shirt off slowly, in any way possible as long as his six-pack was showing.

I heard mumbling, and Heechul let out his signature hyena laughs. "WHAT'S SO FUNNY?" I shouted from my spot. My question was buried under Heechul's boisterous laughter.

I walked out of the kitchen, still holding the half-empty glass of water and repeated my question. "What's so funny?" Heechul pointed weakly at Min Yu, who remained composed as ever, but her eyes slowly retained its meaning.

"What?" I turned to Siwon, who also snickered...shirtless of course. "She mumbled the word star," Heechul said in between pants.

I laughed together with Heechul, and the living room was filled with uproars of happiness, even for just a few moments. I almost lost my balance and had to hold on to the door frame for support.

"Just go to the gym already!" I scolded Siwon and he went to his room to change. I resumed his previous position beside Min Yu by the sofa. "Do you think she'll really go back to normal?" I asked, voicing out my frustration.

In response, Heechul smacked my head. Hard. "OW! What's that for?" I whined, wincing in pain and irritation. "DON'T TALK LIKE THAT! She WILL get better. She WILL," he replied as if convincing himself.

I sighed and stood up to return the glass back to the kitchen, when a hand stopped me from doing so. Min Yu looked up at me innocently, tugging at my arm to pull me beside her. I turned to Heechul and we both had the same expression.

I sat back down and flashed her a genuine smile. "Do you want anything?" I asked. "Are you hungry, what do you want to eat? I could cook for you if you want," Heechul blabbered out all at once.

"Coffee...please?" she replied, her hand still holding mine.

"I'll make five cups," Heechul stood up and volunteered to fulfill her request.

Narrator's POV

"It's nice to be outside, right?" Chunji spread his arms out wide against the strong, cold winds. "But you're shivering," Min Yu commented, trailing right behind him.

"You know how I've always liked coldness," he pouted and sat on a lone bench. He patted the space beside him, motioning for her to sit down. "Last Christmas, who caught a cold because he went out of his dorm underdressed?" she teased and he raised his hand.

They laughed slightly afterwards, remembering each other's silliness. Min Yu rested her head on his shoulder, clutching his arm tightly. "Remember when your mother was about to give birth, and you ran around the house just panicking?" he reminded.

She sat up straight and punched his arm lightly. "I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO!" she defended and stuck her tongue out.

"What about Teukie hyung, hmm? He panted and cringed in pain together with your mother, as if he was the one about to give birth," Chunji added, chuckling at the memory.

She resumed her position with her head on his shoulder, snuggling closer to him. Whenever they were together, she can't help but sympathize with the wind, as if they were the same, bitter and guilty.

Min Yu's gaze scanned the surroundings, the clear skies, flying leaves, and trees swaying with the direction of gust of air. But her eyes dropped to her right hand, the silver bracelet locked around her wrist, and the ring fitted perfectly on her finger.

It was a proof of love, but by two different people. "Chunji?" she called out, closing her eyes and savoring his scent which hadn't changed since they first met, and which she hadn't got tired of even after a long time.

"Yeah?" he responded. She filled her lungs with dry air and breathed it out, repeating the process for a few times before she answered. "I'm sorry," she rested her chin on his shoulder and looked up at him.

Chunji smiled to himself, anticipating the two words coming out from . "I know," his eyes met hers and he leaned closer to give her a kiss.

"So I found something on the internet..." she started after they pulled away. Min Yu felt Chunji's muscles and facial expression tense, bracing himself for whatever she might say.

"100 questions for Teen Top: Question number 12: What's your favorite animal?" she recalled what she had read and he turned to face her. "Ya! Not everything you see on the internet is true!" he fought back.

"Your favorite animal is a human...especially a girl..." she put a finger to her chin as if pondering deeply. "That was right after we debuted!" he protested. She gave him a knowing smile and moved on.

"Question number 22: What is your cellphone background screen? And you answered...?" she cued for him to finish her sentence. "Park Min Yu," he mumbled, trying to get himself out of the situation.

"Really? I thought it was Wonder Girls?" she raised her eyebrow with a confused look. His cheeks flushed red and he looked away. She can't help but laugh at how cute he acted.

"Question number 32: What 3 things would you bring with you on a deserted island? You answered water, food, an--" "AND GIRLFRIEND!" he exclaimed and kissed her cheek.

"Not so fast," she held her finger up and pretended to wipe her cheek from his kiss. "What was that for?!" he whined. "Question number 33: What are you into lately?" and with her previous sentence, he stood up and grabbed her hand.

"Do you want to eat? I'm hungry," he managed to pull out his aegyo. "I think you answered Wonder Girls..." Min Yu said with a serious face.

"THAT WAS YEARS AGO! If they asked me those questions again, my answers would have been a hundred times different," he boasted, sitting right back beside her.

"Really? So if you were asked what are you into lately, what would be your response?" she cocked her head on one side, listening attentively. "It wouldn't be Wonder Girls. That's for sure," he nodded to himself. "Then what are you into lately?" she repeated.

"SNSD," he winked and ran off before she could comment. His feet had taken him a few good feet away from his girlfriend, and he stopped when he realized she wasn't after him.

Chunji walked towards her, still sitting on the bench. She gave him a smirk and left him speechless. "Hey, I was just joking," he followed in front of her. His face turned from playful to serious.

Min Yu ignored his frantic efforts to catch her attention and started walking away. "I know," she smiled, but he wasn't convinced. Chunji eyed her suspiciously and stopped in front of her way.

"What?" she asked coyly, holding his hand and intertwining their fingers together. "Fine. To be fair, asked me what I'm into lately," she suggested.

"What are you into lately?" Chunji demanded.

"Infinite~" she twirled on the soles of her feet like a ballerina. Chunji dropped her hand and glared at her. "So mean," he complained and pouted. "Come on. I was just joking too," she ruffled his hair and led him back to her apartment.

"Remember the time when we were watching the late night news at your living room?" he started as he grabbed Min Yu's swinging hand. "Why?" she asked.

"The reporter talked about a wide range massacre of journalists on a random town?" he steered the conversation back to the past. She cringed at the words he used, knowing where this was leading up to.

She kept silent, staring at both their feets and matching with his footsteps. "I got scared of what awaits you in this kind of job. What if you got ambushed, or belonged to one of those massacres? Then look at what had happened," he looked at her, but she didn't return the gaze. "I had ignored your calls for a week, and a day after, your face was on the news."

"I regretted about giving you the silent treatment. If I hadn't, then maybe you wouldn't have left. Maybe you wouldn't be missing for a month, and show up badly hurt afterwards. I knew you were just honestly telling me what went wrong. Maybe I was just too stupid to get ahead of myself," he confessed.

"It's cliche, I know. But everything happened for a reason. I deserved it, all the torture and physical injury. Period," she replied, ending the conversation abruptly.
