You Make Me A Good Man

(A day later)

Hyunseung poked Junhyung in the cheek, smiling in amusement when the younger merely groaned. Then, without warning, Junhyung rolled over with Hyunseung still in his arms. The elder squeaked in surprise and hit Junhyung on the chest the moment he was on the bed once more.

Junhyung smirked and cracked an eyelid open. “Was it fun poking my cheek?”

Hyunseung glowered. “Was it fun to lift me in the air so suddenly like that? You could’ve dropped me! What would’ve happened to Miracle if I fell?” Hyunseung demanded. Junhyung stared blankly at Hyunseung and realised, belatedly, that he’d accidentally angered his boyfriend. Sure, hormones did play a role in Hyunseung’s anger but Junhyung knew that Hyunseung was just worried about Miracle.

“Sorry,” Junhyung apologised immediately. “I wouldn’t have dropped you though,” he added.

Hyunseung sighed and snuggled into Junhyung’s chest. “I know. And yeah, it was fun poking your cheek. You shouldn’t lift me like that again though. At least give me a warning, Junnie,” Hyunseung said with a small pout, jabbing Junhyung’s chest softly with his finger.

Junhyung nodded and sat up, pulling Hyunseung up with him. “We should go get breakfast before we head over to the courthouse. The trial is supposed to end by noon, and it’s starting in less than an hour. We can still enter though,” Junhyung stated. Hyunseung stretched, yawned, and trudged to the toilet sleepily. Junhyung chuckled at Hyunseung’s back view before following him.

After washing up, Junhyung went to make some breakfast while Hyunseung turned the TV on to watch the news. It just so happened that the newscaster was reporting on Kangta’s upcoming court trial. Hyunseung turned up the volume and called out for Junhyung.

“We’re here today to witness the court trial of thirty-four year old Ahn Chilhyun, better known to his associates as Kangta. The man has been charged for nearly four hundred cases of making illegal licenses and identification passes. According to many lawyers, he faces at least ten years in jail.”

Junhyung stood behind the couch, watching the short section of the news, and sighed softly. He had expected as much, since what Kangta did was considered felony. Nonetheless, he did wish to see Kangta at least once before the elder was jailed.

“Let’s eat,” Junhyung said, walking back to the dining table. Hyunseung sat down across him and inhaled the heavenly smell of bacon and his cereal in banana milk. Then he furrowed his brows and got up once more, going to the fridge to get strawberry milk and adding it to his bowl. Junhyung stared as Hyunseung grinned and drank the mixture.

At least I know that strawberry banana milkshake tastes good. Thank god he didn’t add something weird into that, Junhyung thought with a mental sigh of relief. The couple ate their breakfast in comfortable silence, and Hyunseung offered to do the dishes despite Junhyung’s protests.

“I’m pregnant, not disabled. Besides, even disabled people can do the dishes,” Hyunseung reasoned. Junhyung shrugged and gave in, grabbing one of the pregnancy books and reading it while the elder washed the dishes. After Hyunseung was done, the couple went to change out of their sleepwear before heading out and going to the Subordinate Court.

On the drive there, Hyunseung asked what Kangta was like. Junhyung grimaced as he remembered how the elder would make him run errands such as getting the groceries. It wasn’t that he really minded, since Junhyung knew that he was indebted to Kangta. He probably would be in jail by now, had Kangta not made a new identity for him.

“He’s a little manipulative, I guess? He always made me do his housework when I wasn’t out on a job. Of course, I owed him so I just followed his instructions. Also, he had BoA noona backing him up,” Junhyung recalled with a sigh. Hyunseung laughed at this.

“He doesn’t sound like the big bad criminal that people make him out to be,” Hyunseung remarked.

Junhyung nodded in agreement. “He isn’t. He’s not the type of criminal who would work under BoA noona, and those are mostly assassins. He makes licenses and identifications for people, and apparently that’s a big crime in Korea. He’s never stolen or killed,” Junhyung said. “Unlike me.”

Hyunseung frowned. “You didn’t just kill random people though. One could consider you an assassin too, right? You did work under BoA and I don’t see the problem with getting rid of bad people, Junnie. You were only hired to kill other criminals and bad people, weren’t you?”

“Well, yeah. I still killed though.”

Hyunseung looked up at Junhyung and sighed. “I suppose it’s still a bad thing, huh?”

------------------

The judge slammed his gavel down onto the table.

“I hereby pronounce that Ahn Chilhyun will serve a jail term of twelve years for his crimes.”

Junhyung turned to make eye contact with Kangta, biting his lower lip with a small sigh. Kangta shook his head and smiled softly. As everyone stood up and bowed to the judge, Junhyung didn’t break eye contact with Kangta. The man really was a father figure to Junhyung, despite being only nine years older than him. Junhyung felt a sort of connection with Kangta and it upset him to see the man being jailed.

Kangta was escorted out of the courthouse, to the police van, and all the reporters rushed out to interview him. Hyunseung shared a look with Junhyung and the couple headed out quickly, too. Hyunseung knew very well that this Kangta person was important to his boyfriend. He wanted to make sure that Junhyung could at least exchange a few words with the elder.

Once they got outside, Hyunseung and Junhyung realised just how many reporters there were. Nonetheless, the police prevented them from getting to Kangta. Junhyung and Hyunseung headed over and requested to speak with Kangta. The police had refused initially, but when Kangta told them that he’d like a few words with Junhyung, the police let him.

“Kangta hyung, I can’t believe that the next time I meet you, you’ll be in prison,” Junhyung said with a bitter laugh. He was thankful to Kangta for everything that the elder had done for him, but he’d never had the chance to thank him for it. “Thanks, hyung, for everything.”

Kangta smiled and ruffled Junhyung’s hair. “Anytime, kid.”

Hyunseung, standing by the side, scrutinised Kangta. “Say, do you know Zhoumi?”

Kangta blinked in surprise at Hyunseung. “And you are?”

Scratching the back of his head sheepishly, Hyunseung apologised for his lack of manners. “I’m Jang Hyunseung. Nice to finally meet you, sir. I’m Junhyung’s boyfriend,” Hyunseung introduced. Kangta raised his brow and smirked at Junhyung.

“You finally found someone right for you, huh? Good for you, Junhyung,” Kangta congratulated. He leaned in closer to whisper into Junhyung’s ear, eyes scanning the area and spotting a familiar figure in the distance. Kangta frowned. “I’ve heard that someone’s after you two. I tried to find out who it was but he’s fast and I couldn’t catch him no matter how I try. I can recognise his figure though. Be careful, Junhyung. He’s here.”

After saying his piece, Kangta straightened up. “Make sure to take care of BoA and visit me, alright? I’ll see you kids soon!” Kangta exclaimed, waving with a smile. “Oh, right. Zhoumi’s my maternal cousin!” Kangta added with a cheeky grin. He entered the police van and waved once more to the couple before the police van drove off.

The moment the van was out of sight, Junhyung turned around and scanned the area for the man that Kangta was talking about. He cursed silently when he realised that the man had escaped yet again, and subconsciously pulled Hyunseung nearer to him. Whoever it is probably knows that Seungie’s pregnant. I don’t think it’s safe to ever leave Seungie alone now.

“Junnie?” Hyunseung called out, noticing that the younger seemed to be deep in thought. Junhyung snapped back to reality and forced a smile. He was too unsettled about the situation at the moment. Kangta hyung is never wrong about these things. Damn it.

“Let’s go,” Junhyung suggested, eyeing their surroundings warily as he and Hyunseung returned to his car. When they arrived at the car park, Junhyung spotted a sheet of paper on the windscreen of his car. He snatched it up and read through the message.

‘Yong Junhyung, you and your lover will pay for what you did. I don’t have to time to entertain you today but mark my words, you’ll be meeting me soon enough. Enjoy the time you have left with your lover, because you won’t be with him for long.’

Junhyung crushed the piece of paper and threw it into the nearest bin, narrowing his eyes. Hyunseung looked at Junhyung worriedly, not having had a single glimpse of what was written on the sheet of paper. “…Junnie, what was that?”

Junhyung’s gaze softened. “Someone wants to break us up. I don’t know what I did to anger this person or who this person even is, but I won’t let him hurt you or Miracle,” Junhyung said truthfully. He didn’t want to lie to Hyunseung and besides, the elder had a right to know.

Hyunseung bit his lip, tearing up slightly. Who would want to break us up?

Upon noticing this, Junhyung squeezed Hyunseung’s shoulder.

“Let’s head to the store.”

-------------------

Junhyung glanced outside the store, a frown set on his face as he scanned the area for the nth time that day. He was extremely tensed up because of the note and what Kangta told him. Apart from that, he could sense that he and Hyunseung were being watched, and he just couldn’t seem to spot even the person’s shadow.

The moment it hit seven in the evening, the four employees went to change and go for dinner. Jungsu had left work quite some time ago, due to Youngwoon’s overprotective nature. In his place was this guy called Kim Heechul, who would slowly be taking over most of Jungsu’s work until the elder male gave birth.

“Heechul hyung, we’re going for dinner! Are you going to come with?” Doojoon called out. Both Doojoon and Hyunseung had met Heechul before on various occasions, since the man was a close friend of Jungsu’s and would drop by every now and then. Yoseob and Junhyung had just recently been acquainted with the man, what with Heechul having given birth not too long ago and staying at home to take care of his daughter.

“It’s fine. I’ll have dinner at Hannie’s restaurant. You guys want to try his famous fried rice?” Heechul asked, emerging from the staff lounge with a wink. Yoseob and Hyunseung gave each other a similar look that screamed ‘Beijing Fried Rice. Must eat Beijing Fried Rice.’

“Sure,” Junhyung replied for all four of them, already having noticed the looks on both pregnant males’ faces. Heechul grinned and beckoned them to follow him after he locked up. He met up with his husband, Hangeng, outside the store and tiptoed to give the man a peck on the cheek.

“The kids want to try your fried rice, Hannie. Lead the way! I’ll take Heekyung for now,” Heechul said, taking the two-month-old girl from Hangeng and cooing at her fondly. The four employees greeted Hangeng before getting into Junhyung’s car. As Hangeng drove, Junhyung followed behind, his eyes unconsciously scanning the area time and again.

After a ten-minute drive, they arrived in front of a restaurant. Junhyung nearly slammed his forehead onto the steering wheel when he recognised the restaurant. Dear lord, not again. Why do I always rob from restaurants? It’s no wonder that Hangeng guy looked so familiar.

The four clambered out of the car and Heechul gestured to the restaurant proudly. “Welcome to Heestory. It used to be a merchandise store and a café but we decided to make it a restaurant, four years ago,” Heechul told them. Junhyung groaned inwardly. Maybe it would’ve been better if you left it as a merchandise store.

After they were seated, Hangeng went to the back to prepare food for the four and Heechul. The moment Hangeng was out of sight, Junhyung sighed. “Heechul hyung, I need to tell you something.”

Hyunseung raised a brow. “Don’t tell me you robbed them too, Junnie.”

Yoseob snapped his fingers, as if he recalled something. “Right! Three years ago, when I needed money to pay for my rent since I ran out, Junhyung hyung brought me here, and told me to drive off once he was in the car with the money,” Yoseob remembered. He looked at Heechul, then at Junhyung, Doojoon and Hyunseung. “Oops.”

Heechul glared at Junhyung. “You were that person?”

Scratching the back of his head sheepishly, Junhyung nodded. “Yeah, sorry I injured Hangeng hyung back then. I’ll pay you back, if you want me to. Besides, I’ve changed my ways,” Junhyung assured.

Heechul narrowed his eyes further before sinking back into his seat. “Sure, whatever. It isn’t as if I’m prejudiced against criminals.”

Junhyung smiled genuinely, glad that yet another person had accepted him.

“Thanks, Heechul hyung.”

------------------

Their dinner was spent with mindless chatter, and Yoseob chiding Doojoon for not asking Heechul and Hangeng about how to handle a pregnancy. While Doojoon was somewhat glad that Yoseob was back to himself, instead of crying every night, he couldn’t help but sigh inwardly at the same time.

Hangeng had apparently forgiven the robber from three years back, so Junhyung was able to heave a sigh of relief. He didn’t want people to shun him. After years of living a lonely life, Junhyung wanted out. He wanted to make more friends and to be with the people he’d come to love.

The four employees bid goodbye to Hangeng and Heechul after dinner, thanking them for the meal since Hangeng simply refused to accept their money. They then returned to the store to work the night shift, rushing slightly since they’d taken a bit too long eating dinner.

While working, Hyunseung noticed that Junhyung was simultaneously looking at his phone and looking out of the store. Of course, he did that when there wasn’t anyone in his lane at the moment. Nonetheless, Hyunseung couldn’t help but be curious. He knew the reason for Junhyung looking outside the store, of course. The note from this afternoon… it’s got Junnie really worried. However, he did want to find out what Junhyung was doing on his phone.

By the time it was nearing one in the morning, Hyunseung and Yoseob were pretty much dead on their feet. Doojoon and Junhyung told them to rest for a bit in the lounge while they cleaned up. Obviously, neither of them had the energy to complain and they were soon asleep in the staff lounge, managing to both fit on the couch by hugging each other.

Junhyung and Doojoon walked into the staff lounge, sighed in unison, and pried their boyfriends apart. They ended up carrying the two to the car since Hyunseung and Yoseob were too tired to want to walk to the car on their own.

Junhyung and Hyunseung had already decided to sleep at Junhyung’s apartment for the night so, after sending Doojoon and Yoseob home, Junhyung bid them goodnight and drove to his own apartment. Throughout the entire journey, Hyunseung was fast asleep, even snoring lightly.

Junhyung parked his car, carried Hyunseung out and locked the car. He got into the house with ease despite the fact that he was carrying Hyunseung, because he’d gotten used to it. It wasn’t the first time that he’d had to carry Hyunseung into the house, and it wouldn’t be the last either.

Hyunseung was forced to wake up to shower and brush his teeth since Junhyung knew that he would have to wake the elder eventually. After a half hour of washing up and preparing for bed, Hyunseung and Junhyung were in their sleepwear and had collapsed on Junhyung’s bed. Before Hyunseung had a chance to doze off, however, Junhyung opened a webpage on his phone and showed it to Hyunseung.

Blinking sleepily and yawning, Hyunseung stared at Junhyung. “What’s that?”

“I was searching for an apartment earlier on since we did mention moving. Well, I’ve actually been searching for the past week or so. I just found an apartment that’s right above yours and Doojoon’s. It’s probably some miraculous of luck but should we get it? I have the money and I’m sure BoA noona wouldn’t mind lending me some money if I need it. We can move in within a month and get everything set up!” Junhyung exclaimed. Hyunseung smiled, but his eyelids were fluttering shut and he yawned yet again.

“That’s great, Junnie. I don’t mind at all. You can handle the papers by yourself, right?”

Junhyung smiled and nodded, placing a soft kiss on Hyunseung’s lips.

“I’ll handle everything. Let’s sleep.”

Hyunseung couldn’t object to that, and he fell asleep right after saying a soft “Good night, love you” to Junhyung. After Hyunseung fell asleep, Junhyung turned the lights off and hugged the elder, feeling Hyunseung snuggle into his chest.

Junhyung knew that they needed a bigger apartment to make a nursery for Miracle, but there was another reason why he was so hasty about getting a new apartment. His district wasn’t safe in the least, and Hyunseung could easily be exposed to danger either by strangers, or by the mysterious man who was on their tail.

Seungie, Miracle, please be safe. Umma, Hyuksoon, make sure they don’t get hurt.
