You Make Me A Good Man

(A day later)

Junhyung groaned in his sleep, tossing and turning in his car seat. Hyunseung stirred due to the noise and glared at Junhyung for a moment.

Junhyung? Oh right. He brought me home yesterday.

Hyunseung felt his lips curve into a smile and he stayed in his position, not wanting to wake Junhyung up. He frowned, however, when Junhyung began to mumble in his sleep and broke out in a cold sweat.

“Umma… No, let her go! Umma!” Junhyung called out, his voice sounding panicked. Hyunseung got up and looked at Junhyung worriedly. He looked around for something to wipe Junhyung’s face with, deciding to take the towel that he usually brought around with him.

Ugh, my left hand , Hyunseung thought as he tried his best to dab the sweat off Junhyung’s forehead. Junhyung started to toss and turn around again, and before long he was trashing around in his sleep.

“Let go of her! Umma, don’t leave… Don’t leave me alone…” Junhyung begged. Hyunseung bit back a gasp as tears began to make their way down Junhyung’s cheeks. Hyunseung awkwardly pulled Junhyung into his embrace, careful not to move his wrist.

“Shh, it’s ok. I’m here,” Hyunseung said, patting Junhyung’s back softly. He sighed softly in relief when Junhyung calmed down and stopped moving around in his sleep. Slowly, Hyunseung tried to move away from Junhyung, squeaking in surprise when Junhyung pulled him back.

“Don’t leave…” Junhyung mumbled, burying his face in Hyunseung’s shoulder. Hyunseung hesitated for a moment, ultimately giving in to Junhyung and nodding in compliance.

“I won’t leave,” Hyunseung promised, biting on his lower lip nervously.

What if Junhyung’s just playing with me? I can’t handle it if he’s toying with me. He probably has hordes of girls after him, with that face of his. Why me?

Hyunseung glanced down at Junhyung who was sleeping peacefully by then. Sighing, Hyunseung absent-mindedly Junhyung’s hair, playing with the wild strands of brown hair. Hyunseung stayed that way for another half an hour before he decided that he had to get up for food. He definitely needed to wash up too.

Gently shaking the other male, Hyunseung whispered, “Wake up, sleepyhead.”

Junhyung groaned, his head pounding from having that nightmare for the fifth time that week. And it was only Wednesday. Junhyung sat up straight, rubbing his eyes and stretching slightly. He opened his eyes to be met by Hyunseung’s worried gaze.

“Gah! What are you doing in my house?!” Junhyung shrieked. A look of hurt flashed in Hyunseung’s eyes, just for a mere second, and it disappeared as quickly as it had come. Hyunseung forced a smile onto his face.

“You brought me home last night, remember? I never did get home,” Hyunseung pointed out. “I fell asleep in your car and you let me sleep here.”

Junhyung took some time to absorb his surroundings before he remembered what happened last night. He didn’t remember what Hyunseung did to calm him down earlier though. Junhyung pretended to scoff at Hyunseung and he rolled his eyes.

“That’s because you looked so pathetic. Now get out of my car,” Junhyung told Hyunseung.

Hyunseung looked out the window, spacing out for a moment. Junhyung stared at Hyunseung’s expressionless face, suddenly feeling bad.

Why am I guilty anyway? It’s not like I care about him.

“Hey, do you want to go get some breakfast?”

Junhyung snapped out of his thoughts and looked at Hyunseung. “What?”

Hyunseung sighed in exasperation. “Do you want to get breakfast?”

Junhyung thought about it for a moment and nodded. Hara will probably come looking for me for breakfast. There is no way I’m going with her.

Hyunseung smiled, mentally cheering in victory. “Then I’ll go up first. I’ll meet you at… 10am here?” Hyunseung asked, checking the current time. He would have about an hour to prepare himself and look presentable.

Junhyung checked the time and nodded, ushering Hyunseung out of his car. He barely spared the elder male a glance before he drove off. Hyunseung resisted the urge to pout and stare after Junhyung’s car, instead settling for heading into his apartment.

“Doojoon-ah!” Hyunseung called out, looking around to find his best friend.

He isn’t home? But it’s only 9am. He doesn’t have soccer practice today.

Puzzled, Hyunseung went into his room to find some suitable clothes to change into. He noticed a blue post-it note on his bed and picked it up, smiling when he recognised Doojoon’s messy scrawling.

‘Hyunseung,

I went for practice already. Where were you? Call me when you see this.

I won’t be back till night because I have morning practice and I’m working the afternoon shift. I’ll be back with dinner, so don’t worry about starving XD

If you’re going to stay out next time, at least inform me, sheesh.

Love,

Doojoon.’

Hyunseung shook his head even as an amused chuckle escaped. At least he still cares.

Hyunseung dialled Doojoon’s number, managing to type the numbers down with much difficulty. He set the call on speaker and changed while waiting for Doojoon to pick up.

“Hyunseung?”

“Yeah, it’s me. Sorry for not getting back earlier,” Hyunseung apologised, groaning when he couldn’t remove his shirt properly.

“Are you ok? Where did you go?” Doojoon questioned, worry etched into his voice.

“I fell asleep in Junhyung’s car. I’m fine, but I can’t get my shirt off!” Hyunseung whined. He heard Doojoon’s laughter over the phone and pouted.

“How about asking Seungho to help? He’s at home now,” Doojoon suggested. Seungho was their neighbour and he lived together with his boyfriend, Byunghee. Hyunseung’s eyes lit up and he nodded, momentarily forgetting that Doojoon couldn’t see him. “Seung?”

“Oh, right. That’s a great idea! Thanks, Joon! I’ll drop by later for lunch,” Hyunseung told his friend before hanging up, pulling his shirt down before running out of the house. He rang his neighbours’ doorbell frantically and grinned when he heard the door unlock.

Seungho glanced at Hyunseung sleepily, obviously having just woke up. He raised a brow at Hyunseung as he rubbed his eyes groggily. “Yes, Seung?”

“Can you help me change?” Hyunseung asked, puffing his cheeks up. Seungho widened his eyes, suddenly feeling wide awake.

“What?!”

Hyunseung smiled sheepishly. “I didn’t mean it like that. I fractured my wrist yesterday and I’m having issues changing. Doojoon’s out, so I have no one else to help.”

Seungho nodded in relief and let Hyunseung in. Hyunseung greeted Byunghee who looked just as drained as Seungho, and the latter stared at Hyunseung questioningly.

“What are you doing here?” Byunghee asked with a yawn.

“I need someone to help me change. I fractured my wrist and can’t do it on my own,” Hyunseung explained. Byunghee nodded and, without a word, took Hyunseung’s shirt and pants off. Seungho gaped at how quickly Byunghee managed to help Hyunseung change.

“Done,” Byunghee said as he pulled Hyunseung’s jeans up. Hyunseung declined Byunghee’s help when the younger male wanted to pull up Hyunseung’s zipper for him. Hyunseung had turned red and hastily thanked the couple before running back to his own apartment.

-----------------------

Hyunseung checked his appearance for the last time, wanting to look good for his breakfast date with Junhyung. He sighed when he heard Junhyung honking the horn and he grabbed his wallet and phone before walking out of the apartment.

He waved to Junhyung briefly before quickly opening the door and sliding into the seat beside Junhyung. Hyunseung unconsciously heaved a relieved sigh when he didn’t see Hara in the car. When he realised what he did, Hyunseung felt bad instantly.

I shouldn’t be so mean… After all, she knew Junhyung first.

“Hey. Where do you want to go?” Junhyung asked, snapping his fingers in front of Hyunseung when the elder didn’t respond. Hyunseung jumped in shock and held a hand over his chest, trying to calm his racing heart.

“Head over to Konkuk University,” Hyunseung decided. Since his visit to Mouse Rabbit Coffee with Jungsu and Youngwoon two days ago, he had wanted to go back and visit the friendly hyungs there. Of course, the food played a huge role in him back to the café.

Junhyung raised a brow but didn’t say anything. He began to drive to the said university, occasionally glancing over at Hyunseung. The elder male was engrossed in reading something on his phone and he let out a shriek at some point in time.

“What happened?” Junhyung asked, slightly worried about Hyunseung.

Hyunseung began to chew on his lower lip nervously as he continued staring at the screen of his phone. “My results are going to be out next week. I didn’t even think about checking the school website. I’m screwed!”

Junhyung let out a small chuckle and immediately stiffened. He had chuckled twice because of Jang Hyunseung. Am I going mad? I never chuckle because of anyone other than Seob!

Hyunseung momentarily forgot about his panic as he squealed in his head. If it had been Yoseob beside him, he wouldn’t have hesitated to pinch the other’s cheeks. But this was Junhyung and Hyunseung wasn’t quite comfortable with touching Junhyung yet.

Junhyung cleared his throat, trying to forget the fact that he had chuckled because of Hyunseung. “So what did you study?”

Hyunseung looked at Junhyung as if he had gone mad. He never expected Junhyung to ask about his school life or interests. Heck, he hadn’t even expected Junhyung to agree to breakfast in the first place!

Junhyung, on the other hand, tried to ignore Hyunseung’s gaze on him. “So…?”

Hyunseung snapped back to reality and turned to look outside the window. “Dance.”

“Are you serious?” Junhyung asked. A mocking tone was evident in his voice. Hyunseung felt insulted, and it was worse because Junhyung was the one mocking him.

“Yeah. I’ve always enjoyed dancing and I’m amongst the top in my class. I want to be a professional choreographer in the future,” Hyunseung replied proudly, trying his best not to let his voice crack. It really when your crush makes fun of your interest, as Hyunseung just found out.

Junhyung didn’t say anything then, and Hyunseung started to get worried. Did I do something wrong?

After another few minutes spent in silence, the two arrived at Konkuk University. Junhyung parked his car carefully before Hyunseung began to lead the way to the café.

“I used to study here,” Hyunseung said, tired of the silence that threatened to consume them both. Junhyung stopped dead in his tracks, making Hyunseung stop as well. “Junhyung?”

When he realised that Junhyung wasn’t going to move anytime soon, Hyunseung sighed and walked back to the other. He had been ready to pull Junhyung along with him when he heard Junhyung murmur something.

“What?” Hyunseung asked, moving closer to Junhyung to hear him.

“I never got a chance to study,” Junhyung repeated in a whisper. Hyunseung caught the hidden note of sadness and his heart clenched in pain for Junhyung. Hyunseung patted Junhyung’s back softly and grabbed his hand, walking to the café with Junhyung in tow. Surprisingly, Junhyung showed no signs of resistance.

The two entered the café and Hyunseung greeted Jongwoon. “Hyung, can we go to the back?”

Jongwoon nodded and pointed to the private room before turning back to the customer in front of him. Hyunseung thanked Jongwoon and entered the private room with Junhyung, still holding onto the other male’s hand. When he finally realised what he was doing, Hyunseung blushed and dropped Junhyung’s hand.

“Hyunseung!” Ryeowook chirped. Sungmin and Kyuhyun were there as well, and there were another two males in the room. Hyunseung frowned at one of the males, swearing that he knew him. Hyunseung gasped in realisation as he recognised the other male. Lee Hyukjae.

“Junhyung, has anybody ever seen your face when you attacked them?” Hyunseung asked under his breath. Junhyung looked at Hyunseung and shook his head slowly, not understanding what Hyunseung was asking. Hyunseung sighed in relief and sat beside Ryeowook. Junhyung automatically followed and sat beside Hyunseung.

Ryeowook happily took their orders and left quickly, leaving the two alone as he got their food. Hyunseung glanced at the unusually quiet Junhyung. On normal days, Junhyung would find a way to annoy Hyunseung.

What did I do? Hyunseung thought for the second time that day.

“Junhyung, are you alright?” Hyunseung asked worriedly. Junhyung raised his head and looked at Hyunseung. The elder male had to bite back a gasp as he saw how lost Junhyung looked. Hyunseung hesitated for a moment before hugging Junhyung, just like he did earlier in the morning.

“I miss my umma,” Junhyung admitted, finally showing his weak side to Hyunseung. Hyunseung shushed Junhyung and just patted his back comfortingly. He was confused about why Junhyung would miss his umma though, but he figured that Junhyung would tell him when he wanted to.

Hyunseung sighed and ran a hand through Junhyung’s hair. Junhyung seemed to enjoy it, or at least he didn’t dislike it. Ryeowook returned to the table minutes later with the food in hand. At the same time, a very certain Lee Hyukjae walked over to them.

Hyunseung immediately released Junhyung, wincing when he accidentally jarred his wrist.

“You look familiar. Have I ever seen you around?” Hyukjae asked Junhyung. Hyunseung knew that Hyukjae was a policeman, and that he might very likely arrest Junhyung. But he also knew that Hyukjae was a good friend of his.

“Hyuk!” Hyunseung exclaimed, successfully getting Hyukjae’s attention. Hyukjae turned to Hyunseung and the latter quickly struck up a conversation. He noticed Junhyung’s grateful expression and merely smiled at the younger.

Junhyung, you owe me big time.
