“Why are you so happy?” Henry spoke in a low tone, since he wanted that their conversation to be private, yet Amber could totally sense the anger in his voice.

“Why are you always with your friends as if you are not even affected?” Henry forced himself not to swear in front of Amber, so he chose to just clench his jaw.

Amber moved closer to him, her lips just above his ear, “Not even affected? Happy?” She was as mad as he was. He felt his heart jumped the moment he felt her breathe on his ear. “You think I am so happy.” She held onto his shirt, venting her anger of what she heard from him on it, and then rested her forehead on his chest.

“You are always out with friends as if you are not even sad.”

“I am far from being happy, Henry.”

“Really? It is not that obvious.” He had even have the courage to mock Amber. He was that mad and hurt.

“I always go out with my friends because,” She paused, and Henry could hear her sniff. She was about to cry. “Because I don’t want this to happen,” she was referring the conversation they were having. “I really don’t want this to happen. I really don’t.” He felt her tears falling on his shirt.

“I am always with them, because I don’t want to feel that I am all alone.” Amber sniffed and wiped the tears on her cheeks.

Henry couldn’t find the right words to tell her. He was shocked because of the words he heard from Amber.

He took a step away from her and saw Amber still crying, her eyes closed, and the back of her hand above and nose. “I wanted to avoid the times that I will be alone.”

She wanted to stop crying, but at that moment, she couldn’t. She didn’t want Henry to see her that weak, but there was a part that wanted Henry to see how affected she was of all of these, proving him wrong.

All Henry could do was to hug Amber, and once again, she cried on his chest.

“When I am alone, all I could think was you and what happened to us, to our relationship. And that made me even sadder.” And she pushed Henry away and letting him see how sad she looked. “You don’t want me to hang-out with my friends. You want to be sad.” She pointed at her face. “Is this what you want, huh? Is that what you want?” She shouted, stepped away from him since he wanted to hug her again.

Henry the just bowed his head, and sighed. “I chose to be sad, to be affected.” He looked at her. “I chose to be left alone, away from everybody else, because at least when I am alone, I could relive in my mind what happened when we were together. I will always remember our memories, good and bad. I won’t let myself forget you. It hurts so much, when I see you, when I hear your voice, your laughter, how happy you are, and most especially when I remember you. What am I supposed to do to change my mind, to choose not to be alone, not to remember you?”

Amber wiped the tears that had fallen on his cheeks. “What happened to your cheeks, Mochi?” She laughed, yet her tears kept falling. She tried to lighten up their mood, especially Henry’s. She didn’t want to see him that sad especially if she was reason behind it.

“I love you. I will always love you,” his hand above hers that was touching his cheek, and stepped closer to her.

“I know. I love you too, so much.”

“I will try not to miss you anymore. I’ll try to forget about you.”

“I guess I will try that too…” She chuckled and they held hands. She definitely missed holding his hand. “But not today. Tomorrow?”

“Tomorrow then.” He was definitely not sad anymore. Finally, he wouldn’t be, he realized, as their lips met.

Actually I wrote this one-shot in Filipino first, then decided to write it in English. Later on, I just continued what I have started (I am taliking about the Filipino version of this one-shot).

Title: Mag-isa
 

"Bakit di apektado?" Tanong ni Henry.

"Apektado?" Tanong din ang sagot ni Amber.

"Bakit ang saya-saya mo?" Ginamit ni Henry ang pagkakataong ito na ibuhos ang inis niya.

"Masaya? Tingin mo masaya ako." Pikon na pikon si Amber sa mga naririnig niya mula kay Henry.

"Lagi ka lang lumabasa kasama ng mga kaibigan mo. Na parang hindi ka man malungkot." Tinitigan ni Henry si Amber, na ngayong ay kaibigan na lamang niya.

"I am far from being happy, Henry."

"Talaga? Parang di halata." Nakuha pang barahin ng binata ang napikon niyang kaibigan.

"Sinasadya ko na lumabas na lang palagi kasama ng mga kaibigan ko dahil ayaw ko ng mangyari 'to." Ang tinitukoy ni Amber ay ang mag-usap sila ng sarilinan. “Ayokong ayoko.” Napabugtong-hinginga siya.

“I am always with my friends kasi ayoko ma-realize na mag-isa na lang ako.”

Napatameme si Henry sa mga salitang narinig nito mula sa pinakamamahal niya.

“I wanted to avoid the times that I will be alone.”

Nakita ni Henry ang namumugtong mga mata ni Amber, ang pagtulo ng mga luha ng dalaga.

“Kasi kung pag nag-iisa ako, naaalala kita. Naaalala ko tayo, at kung ano ang kinahinatnan ng relasyon natin. Lalo lang ako nalulungkot. So gusto mo lagi na lng akong malungkot? Ganun ba?”

Tumungo ang binata dahil nahihiya ito sa kinahinatnan ng magtatanong niya kay Amber.

“Malungkot ako. Mas pinili kong maging malungkot dahil at least, I could still remember what happened when we were together. I will always remember our memories, good and bad. I won’t let myself forget you. Alam ko sobrang sakit pag nakikita kita, pag naririnig ko yung boses mo, your laughter, kung gaano ko kasaya, lalo na pag naaalala kita. Ano ba yung kailangan kong gawin para magbago yung isip ko, to choose not to be alone, not to remember you?”

Hinawakan ni Amber ang pisngi ni Henry, wiping off his tears. Ano na ang nangyari sa Mochi cheeks mo?” Tumatuwa siya, yet tumulo pa din ang mga luha niya. She tried to lighten up their mood, especially Henry’s. Ayaw na ayaw niyang ganito kalungkot si Henry lalo na kung siya ang dahilan.

“Mahal kita.” his hand above hers that was touching his cheek, and stepped closer to her. “I will always love you.”

“Alam ko na yun e. Mahal din kita. Mahal na mahal.”

“I will try not to miss you anymore. Susubukan ko na kalimutan ka.”

“I guess I will try that too…” She chuckled, and they held hands. “But not today. Bukas?”

“Sige, bukas.” He was definitely not sad anymore. Finally, hindi na siya magiging malungkot, he realized that as their lips met.
