Chapter 30
Trapped.Now playing: Exo M - Moonlight
It was a little chilly as the air hit his face delicately while he walked starring up at the night sky. He was holding a few heavy grocery bags as he walked back to his apartment, chanting a melody to break the silence that the night offered. Suho’s steps came to a halt as he stared at a familiar figure seated on top of the stairs that leaded to his home, the figure’s head hung low in misery, his shoulders shaking, and faint sobs could be heard from where he stood.
Suho moved slowly towards the huge blonde, careful not to startle him, he eyed him curiously, a bit concerned and genuinely worried.
“Kris…” Suho’s soft voice echoed through the night air, hesitant and broken. The said boy raised his head to stare back him, eye deep red, and burning from all the tears that fell on his damp face. Suho’s heart broke painfully a million times at the sight, the bags fell from his hands, not even caring if anything broke, he rushed towards the blonde latter and pulled him into a tight hug.
Kris’s arms wrapped tightly around Suho’s small figure, he buried his face in the crook of his shoulder and sobbed loudly and uncontrollably as he trembled vigorously in the Suho’s tight embrace. The smaller latter shushed him, brushed his hair delicately and rubbed soothing circles on his back, trying to calm him down, but it was of no use, the pain in Kris’s chest was far from bearable, he needed to let this out or misery might eat him alive.
“Let’s go upstairs…” Suho helped the tall latter stand; he grabbed the bags with his left hand, and steadied Kris with the right.
Soon they were in his apartment. Suho put a black cover over Kris’s body to keep him from getting cold. He turned the heater in the house on, and walked to the small kitchen to make something for them to drink. When he got back, Kris has stopped crying, staring at nothing as he just lay on the blue sofa silently. He took notice of Suho stepping back inside the living room; he straightened up in his place as Suho sat beside him, a warm smile evident on his face.
“Here you go…” Suho handed him a blue mug that was filled with steaming hot chocolate, topped off with whip cream, cinnamon sticks, and a few pink scattered marshmallows.
“… I know you like the pink ones… I put extra in your mug.” He gave a wide, angelic grin. Kris stared at the mug, feeling his heart fall at that, his eyes rose back to meet Suho’s, tears forming again in them.
“You remembered?” His voice came almost like an audible deep whisper, hoarse and threatening to Suho’s heart. His eyes fell but his smile never faltered, he figured Kris wouldn’t be able to grab the mug just yet so he placed both his mug and Kris’s on the small coffee table in front of them.
“Of course I do… How can I forget?” His smile seemed pained; his heart ached upon the memories that rushed through his mind at that moment.
“I’m sorry…” Kris whispered, and Suho raised his stare back at him. When their eyes met, Suho felt all the pain in Kris’s eyes travel to his soul, he wanted to reach his hand and brush the tears that started to stream down the latter’s face away, but he was hesitant, hesitant that he wouldn’t be able to stop himself from showing weakness. The love of his life was seated in front of him, and he knew, he wasn’t baring the same emotions towards him; it pained him greatly how he still wished for him to be back.
“I know you are.” He just answered simply.
“You hate me…” Kris added again, his whispers broken, and the tears evident in his voice.
“I don’t…” Suho reassured. “… and sadly I never will.” He gave a smile back at him. Kris leaned closer and buried his face in Suho’s shoulder; Suho tensed t first, but soon relaxed and the blonde’s hair. Silence engulfed the room as Kris stayed wrapped in Suho’s arms, feeling comfort upon his touch.
“Why do you always have to be so good to me Suho?” Kris’s muffled voice broke the silence, Suho closed his eyes and urged himself not to reply to that.
*Because I love you, you idiot!*
Suho breathed his fresh musky scent, the scent he never got tired of over the years. Everything about him is still the same, his huge body, his massive height, his beautiful sharp, dark features, his loving dark eyes, and his scent, all the same as Suho remembered, the only thing that was different were the feeling his heard held towards him. Kris didn’t love him anymore, Kris didn’t want to stay by his side forever like he promised years ago, and Kris broke his promise, breaking Suho’s heart along with it.
He left him as a helpless man, pained by love, life chattered by a heart break, becoming a workaholic to bury his misery in his work and studies. Suho cursed himself for being this weak, why did his heart have to beat so fast whenever Kris was around him? Why did his heart give up so easily?
“I’m a horrible person Suho… a horrible, miserable, ing jerk, who’ll never be happy…” Kris began, his hands raised to Suho’s chest, resting at its left side, feeling his heart bit. Suho swallowed hard and tried to stay still, the touch burnt, but he ought to bare it a little longer.
“I broke your heart… but still… you treat me right, you always do…” Kris pulled away from the embrace to look into Suho’s eyes. “… Just hate me Suho. It’ll be better… I’ll feel less guilty… I’ll even hate myself less if you hate me… Don’t make me feel like a low life.” He pleaded. Suho kept an expressionless façade.
“I can’t…” He began voice barely ab
