A/N: Sorry I haven't updated in a while! I've been super busy getting settled in at college.

“Are you sure it’s okay? I mean, you haven’t even had a chance to go back with your group yet.” You looked to him with sympathetic eyes, not wanting to force him to spend the night with your newborn daughter before either of you had a full understanding of her voiceless needs.

“No, go ahead! You haven’t gotten away for a while.” Smiling gratefully, you kissed them both before leaving to meet with your friends for dinner. As the door shut behind you, he smiled to your child. She lay on the floor and stared back at him, her wide eyes marveling at the room around her. Together they sat for a while, his fingers marking quickly over a blank sheet of music. She watched her father composing, sticking a socked foot in her tiny mouth.

From time to time he regarded his daughter, watching and admiring every motion she made. She gurgled, a small smile forming on her toothless mouth. A few more moments passed, peaceful silence settled in the brightly decorated living room.

Soon, his daughter began to fuss, her hands grabbing aimlessly at the air as she reached for her father. He set aside his notebook quickly, scrambling to pick her up in his arms. He smoothed his hand soothingly against her fuzzy hair, but his embrace was hardly enough to stifle her developing cries. She wailed loudly, tears pooling in her dark, round eyes.

Hoisting her to his shoulder, he carried the crying baby to the kitchen, trying with one hand to fill a bottle of formula. He heated the bottle carefully, his other hand holding her protectively to his chest while she struggled in frustration. When the milk finished heating he pressed the bottle against his wrist, a few drops landing on his skin. The temperature was perfect, and he turned her around to help her drink.

Her cries quieted as she focused her attention on the formula, soft sounds of her drinking replacing the loud wails. He marveled at her determined belly, the bottle emptying quickly. She smiled comfortably and nuzzled against her father’s chest as she finished the drink.

She began to protest again, pushing the empty bottle away from her face with tiny hands. He lifted her up slightly and stared at her, perplexed by the vast range of needs in such a small person. Once again he leaned her against his shoulder, tapping gently against the back of her cotton shirt. To his surprise she burped loudly, a soft giggle escaping her lips afterwards. He set her gently on a blanket in the living room, a wide smile forming.

“How can someone so small make such a loud noise?” He tickled her toes playfully and continued to grin. She giggled again, kicking her feet wildly. “So noisy…you’re daddy’s girl, you know that right?” He moved his hands to her stomach, beaming at her precious laughter. They played together for hours, your husband trying eagerly to teach her about all of the books on her shelf. He held up colorful toys and explained everything to her excitedly. She stared back, studying her father’s face more than she did the objects.

When you returned from dinner, you shut the door behind you silently. You scanned the room, trying to keep quiet in case your daughter had fallen asleep.

“Is anyone home?” you whispered, smiling when you walked to the sitting room. Your husband lay on the soft blanket in the middle of the room, sleeping with one arm over your daughter’s tiny waist. They were fast asleep, breathing in harmony. You stepped quietly around the room, draping a yellow blanket gently over the both of them. Pressing your lips to your daughter’s head, you whispered quietly in her ear.

“Daddy’s girl.”
