*Hoseok's birthday: Cell Phone Adventures

Adventures of Bangtan toddlers

Happy (belated) birthday, Hopieeee my UB!

I'm probably going to end this fic soon, since I'm really running out of ideas I'm going to give it a maximum of 3 chapters...:(

*PS this doesn't really sound like a birthday chapter?

Adventure 1: Broken phone

"Yeow!"

That's the first thing that Hoseok hears when the door bursts open, accompanied by Hoseok's excited screeching. He races past Namjoon who is trying very hard to conceal his gift to his brother from his brother.

"Whoa, whoa, stay back!" Seokjin cries, using his body to shield the intricately-decorated cake from Hoseok's line of sight, which is not very easy, considering that Seokjin is not very tall. Hoseok is instantly followed by panting Jimin and Taehyung, who, obviously, has failed in their mission to keep Hoseok out of the kitchen.

Namjoon rubs the sore spot where the door has slammed into his elbow (that scream of "Yeow" belonged to Namjoon, by the way). He watches as Hoseok confronts Seokjin-hyung about whatever the elder is hiding behind his back, while Seokjin tries to talk his way out of the situation.

Meanwhile, Namjoon cradles the birthday present he's bought by pooling money with the rest of the boys whose names are not Hoseok (plus also being heavily subsidised by Bang PD-hyung). They'd managed to get Hoseok his own handphone. Namjoon doubts he'd use it other than to play video games, but still. Namjoon had been trusted with his own phone (since he seems to be the most sensible out of the lot of them) and Seokjin-hyung and Yoongi-hyung have both gotten their own phones.

"Where is my cake, hyung?" Hoseok asks, grinning and attempting to use his puppy-dog eyes on Seokjin, which, to Namjoon's dismay, is working.

"Uh...well..."

"You wanna open your presents first?" Namjoon asks, knowing that the cake that Seokjin is trying to hide hasn't had icing on it yet.

"Presents? Oh, okay," Hoseok's attention is immediately diverted towards the box that Namjoon is holding in his hand. Namjoon holds it out and grins, showing his dimples as Hoseok takes the box and heads on over to the living room, followed closely by Namjoon, Taehyung and Jimin who is still leaning on the other to catch his breath.

Well, Jungkook and Yoongi are enjoying their TV time, deciding to let the others take care of the birthday celebrations (not that Yoongi would do much to help anyways), so when Hoseok decides to rip his present open in the middle of the living room with loud screaming (the torn birthday wrappers thrown carelessly to the ground breaks Yoongi's heart--he worked on wrapping that present for close to three hours), Yoongi has to throw himself onto the couch and attempt to cover his eyes and ears with the cushion while Jungkook watches on in amusement.

"IT'S MY BIRTHDAY PRESENT!" Hoseok watches as the magical, tiny object tumbles out--it's black and looks very, very familiar.

"Is this an Xbox controller?" Hoseok picks up the smartphone and Namjoon and Yoongi have to restrain themselves to not slap their foreheads. "It's a funny shape, though."

"I'm taking that back if you don't know what it is," Namjoon mutters, reaching for the phone when Hoseok's eyes brighten and his mouth forms an "O".

"IT'S A PHONE!" he screams again, holding the phone tightly to his chest as he looks at it, wondering how to operate it, when he realizes that it works the exact same way that Seokjin-hyung's phone does (it's the same model, that's why). He unlocks it, and begins to swipe at it furiously, exploring the phone little by little. That is, until the finds the App Store.

"I found it!" The five other boys gather around Hoseok, wondering what he's found, when they see the familiar blue logo with a Pokeball in the middle. With Namjoon's help, Hoseok figures out what "Download" means and proceeds to do just that.

"What if I wanna talk to friends?" Hoseok asks Namjoon, deciding that Namjoon here is the smartest of the lot when it comes to technology.

"Then you press here," Namjoon says. He then teaches Hoseok how to create contacts, how to call and message and prays that Hoseok won't annoy his classmates by calling them too much (or calling them at all).

"It's done!" The download bar has finally filled up, and now Hoseok can finally head outside on his own Pokemon adventure.

"BYE, JIN-HYUNG!" Hoseok calls from the door as he and his minions (Jimin, Taehyung and Jungkook) follow him out of the house.

The kitchen door suddenly opens and Seokjin pokes his head out, "Okay, the cake is done...where did they go?"

Namjoon points towards the ajar door and Yoongi has his head buried in the cushion, either asleep or very done with his brothers.

***********************************************************

Hoseok and his gang of minions walk down the streets, watching the phone intensely for any signs of Pokemon appearing. The first time Hoseok had played Pokemon Go, he had thought the phone would make Pokemon appear in real life, and had been watching the surroundings hoping to catch sight of a Pidgey or a Rattata, but to no avail, that is, until Yoongi-hyung helpfully supplied that "Pokemon don't exist in real life".

"I got something!" Taehyung immediately rushes to his hyung's side, followed by Jimin and Jungkook as they marvel at Hoseok's phone's screen, as the Charmander, Squirtle and Bulbasaur appear on his screen and is standing there rather cutely, along the road on the screen. The four of them tap on the screen frantically, and they enter the battle scene.

Being a veteran at the game, Taehyung manages to help catch the Charmander before it ran away.

Hoseok looks at the tiny Charmander standing in the screen, of CP 13. He'd registered his email just a few days ago, with Namjoon and Seokjin's help, and he finally has his own Pokemon Go account. He grins widely at his first own Pokemon and it fires him up even more.

"Onwards!" Hoseok cries and he and his gang of minions head down the street, the four pairs of eyes staring intently at his phone screen in case a Pikachu shows up or something.

The four of them continue to walk for a while, and in the end, turns a few corners and begin walking again.

"A Snorlax!" Jungkook cries, seeing the big, rounded silhouette on the "Nearby" radar screen. He reaches up to tap the screen, but lo and behold, Jungkook's hand moved a little too low and the phone flies out of Hoseok's unsuspecting fingers, landing on the ground with a giant crash.

"Nooooooooooooooooooo!" The four of them yell simultaneously, watching as the phone drops to the floor in slow motion.

"Jungkook..." the three of them turn to face Jungkook, who looks very apologetic, shocked, scared and sad and is on the verge of tears. "YOU DESTROYED THE PHONE!"

"S-Sorry..."

Hoseok bends over the phone, being about to cry himself. It was his birthday present...

"I...I'll get you a new one," Jungkook says, voice small. Hoseok tries to switch the phone on, only to be met by a blank screen, the hot phone stinging his palms a little.

Meanwhile, Taehyung and Jimin look around them. The people who had stopped to stare at the scene before them has carried on with whatever they were doing beforehand, and people are walking quickly in the cold weather, trying to reach their destinations, long coats and handbags brushing by the boys as the four realize that they are completely, hopelessly lost.

*******************************************************

"You mean the phone wasn't charged before?" Seokjin gives Namjoon an incredulous look.

"Well, Hoseok was back from his dance class like five minutes after I plugged the phone in to charge," Namjoon explains. "I doubt the phone would last very long outside."

"They'll be panicking," Yoongi comments, drinking his hot cocoa. Namjoon has his fingers wrapped around the other cup, blowing gently at the surface.

"Well, it's Hoseok's birthday, and the cake isn't going to eat itself," Seokjin says, putting on his coat. Yoongi and Namjoon down their hot cocoa and head for the door, decked out in all their winter gear.

The cold wind greets them, although it should be warming up around now. The three venture out into the busy streets of Seoul, wondering where to even start.

"Where would they most likely go--"

"Noooooooooooooooooooooo!"

"Found them," Yoongi shrugs as Seokjin chuckles, the three of them heading in the direction of the despairing scream.

************************************************************

"How are we going to get back now?" Hoseok asks, his legs already aching from walking so much. The phone is cold already, freezing his legs through his pants even through the long johns he's wearing. The cold wind bites at their exposed faces as the group stops just for Jimin to wrap his own scarf around Jungkook's neck, protecting the maknae from the cold. Hoseok has refused to speak to Jungkook, and Jimin had been the one to hold Jungkook's hand, taking care of him even as the four walk through the streets, hoping to catch sight of anything remotely familiar.

When the cold gets too much for them, they decide to take refuge in one of the train stations, where the wind does not reach. Peak hour is over, so the number of commuters hanging around in the station is much lesser than it would have been an hour ago.

The four sit on the seats in the station, wondering what in the world they should do, when Jimin's ears perk up and he looks around. Three pairs of footsteps that sound all too familiar.

"There you are," someone says, and Jimin immediately jumps up from his seat, bounding over to Seokjin's opens arms, followed by Taehyung, Jungkook and Hoseok (which definitely led to Seokjin's toppling over).

"Seokjin-hyung!" Taehyung cries. "Jungkookie broke the phone!"

"I-I didn't do it on purpose!"

"The phone didn't break," Namjoon says, fishing a portable charger out of his pocket ("When did you even buy that, Joon?" Seokjin asks) and holds out a hand. Hoseok digs into his pocket for the phone and hands it to Namjoon, who plugs the charger into the phone's charger hole.

The screen lights up a little, before the familiar battery sign shows up, indicating that it had zero battery.

"Plus, Pokemon Go takes up a lot of battery," Yoongi states as a matter-of-factly.

"So Jungkookie didn't break the phone?" Hoseok turns to stare at Jungkook, who looks just as shocked as he is.

"Uh, no," Seokjin shakes his head. "Anyways, we'll have to wait for your phone to charge up before we can use it again...so...let's go back and eat in the meantime!"

Adventure 2: A ghost in the phone!

"Helloooooo! Yoongi-hyuuuuung!"

Yoongi growls a "Shut up!" at the phone and slams it down on the bed, grabbing his head. He's going to really hurt someone if Hoseok gives him another call from that phone.

It's just been a few days and Hoseok has been calling Seokjin, Namjoon and Yoongi for at least once a day, and because Yoongi is easy to irritate, Hoseok has been finding it particularly fun to call Yoongi and hear his reaction. It's because Yoongi hears his and Taehyung's howls of laughter as Yoongi hangs up.

When Yoongi watches Namjoon walk into the room with his phone in his hand, looking very tired.

"Why did we even get that phone for him?" Yoongi mutters, watching as Namjoon plops down on his bed.

There's a moment of silence until Namjoon grins and says, "You know what? I've got a plan!"

"What?" Yoongi asks, genuinely interested. Anything to end all of this.

"Alright, the plan goes like this!" Namjoon grins. "We'll keep him off his phone forever!"

************************************************************

Hoseok goes about his daily task of annoying his hyungs. He has just finished calling Seokjin-hyung and it had ended in his exasperated voice. If any of hte maknae line had owned a phone they'd be on the receiving end of his playfulness too. He immediately dials Namjoon's phone directly after that.

He is greeted with a silence after three rings, and Hoseok immediately begins to suspect that there's something wrong. It's not a second later that he hears two high-pitched shrieks and followed closely by a third one (Hoseok's own of course), and Hoseok slams down the phone. He hangs up, pressing the red button with shaky fingers.

The door opens harshly and Seokjin stomps in, watching as Hoseok jumps again in fright and hurls a pillow in Seokjin's face, hitting him square on the nose. Seokjin yelps and wonders just what is wrong with him when Hoseok points to his phone, scared and crying.

"There's a ghost!" Hoseok screeches. The phone is lying on the ground, screen showing the four contacts saved into Hoseok's phone.

The door opens again soon after and Seokjin watches as Yoongi and Namjoon step in, devillish smiles on their faces as Yoongi climbs up to the top bunk to flop onto the blankets and sleep. Meanwhile, Namjoon is playing some English game on his phone.

"I don't think there's a ghost in your phone," Seokjin says, picking up the poor phone from the ground. This phone has had gone through many hardships ever since it has come into Hoseok's hands. The phone looks completely fine. "What happened?" He knows Namjoon and Yoongi have been up to something, but, well...

Hoseok explains what happened, how he'd called Namjoon's number just like how Namjoon himself has taught him to and suddenly, there were screams and Hoseok had hung up straight after that. Seokjin sighs, thinking about how to lecture and punish the two for traumatizing Hoseok like that.

After making sure that Hoseok would be fine playing with the maknae line (and promising that he'd get the phone checked), Seokjin puts his hands on his hips and confronts the two.

"You shouldn't have scared Hoseok like that," Seokjin scolds, holding up the phone for emphasis.

"B-But...he keeps calling us," Yoongi whines.

That's true too...he needs to learn a lesson, Seokjin thinks, and is suddenly conflicted with who he should side with. But being the good boy he is (not necessarily a good hyung), he still enforces the punishment of "no cookies or ice cream after dinner" on Namjoon and Yoongi.

"Go and apologize to him and I'll get him to apologize to the two of you too," Seokjin says, sighing. "Anyways, come down for dinner soon!"

With that, Seokjin sets off to find Hoseok.

***************************************************************

Chapter 3: Hoseok learns

"What's that?"

"It's called Mario," Seokjin says, looking through fanart of Mario on his phone. He watches as Hoseok settles down next to him.

"How do you do that?"

"Do what?"

"Find Mario on your phone?" Hoseok asks. "I want to find Zelda!"

"Then you do this," Seokjin says, opening up Internet Explorer on his phone. He presses the search bar and types "Legend of Zelda" in the search engine before pressing enter. Immediately, a lot of results come up, and Seokjin flashes a satisfied smile at Hoseok's stunned face as the familiar green clad warrior also known as Link and Princess Zelda appear under "Images for Legend of Zelda".

With an amazed cry of "Zelda!" Hoseok lunges towards the phone and begins scrolling through the pictures. Seokjin returns to his Mario when Hoseok manages to get the hang of searching on the Internet.

******************************************************

"What are you doing, hyung?"

"Taking pictures," Yoongi says. It's been a long time since they were at the park, and Yoongi is busy snapping pictures with his phone.

"Why don't you use the camera?" Hoseok asks, confused.

"Because the phone is easier to use," Yoongi says. Not that he won't consider taking up photography in the near future, but still.

"Can I take pictures with my phone too?" Hoseok asks, looking down at the relatively new device.

"Yeah. See that?" Yoongi says, indicating the camera app on his phone. "That's your camera." Hoseok touches it once, tentatively.

The camera boots up and Hoseok immediately sees the ground beneath the phone through the phone screen itself, and gives a cheer of delight when he takes his first picture--of Yoongi no less.

********************************************************

"That looks so cool!"

Hoseok is peering over Namjoon's shoulder at the music app he's using, where he scrolls up and down Namjoon's playlist, which all consist of English singers and names he cannot read.

"It's music," Namjoon says. "You can listen to music from your phone. You didn't know?"

"No," Hoseok shakes his head. "How?"

"Alright, come with me."

Namjoon leads him over to the computer and starts it up. "What song do you want?"

"That's a good question," Hoseok says, frowning. "Hmm...how about Ice Cream Cake?"

Namjoon downloads the video into an MP4 file, and proceeds to open up a music encoder. Hoseok watches, although his attention strays a little, but eyes remain glued to the screen. The encoder changes the file from an MP4 to an MP3 file, and Namjoon uses Bluetooth to transfer the file over to Hoseok's phone.

"There," Namjoon says. He turns to Hoseok and holds out his hand. Hoseok hands him the phone. Namjoon presses the music app and the music is there! Hoseok presses the music file's name, and the music begins playing. Clearly excited by this, Hoseok asks for Namjoon to show him again, and proceeds to rattle off a list of songs that he'd like on his phone.

*************************************************

"Glad he likes it," Seokjin says, sitting down comfortably in the armchair in the living room, while Namjoon is taking a nap on Yoongi, who's flipping through the channels.

"We shouldn't get Jimin and Tae a phone on their birthdays this year," Yoongi says absentmindedly.

"But they need it one day. They're starting elementary school!"

Yoongi just groans as he hears his phone start to ring.

Chapter 38: Ah, so cute! I really enjoy your stories, ty!
I cook for a living, but since I grew up with western dishes and that's what my current clientele prefer I am proudest of my soondubu jjigae which my family have been the taste testers for. However, at work, my coworkers favourite is my macaroni and cheese while the clients prefer the sweet and sour pork.
