*It's Pretty Like You

Adventures of Bangtan toddlers

Jin's birthday special? Using angelbtslover's prompt for the butterfly garden one :) but oops I forgot that it's supposed to be winter for this one...

Quick Question: Have you been to a butterfly garden before? I had when I was seven, but I really kind of forgot the experience...

Enjoy! Happy Birthday Jinnie! Can't stop listening to Christmas version for Awake! I'm sorry it's so short...

******************************************************

"Alright, today, let's go to the butterfly garden!" Seokjin announces happily.

"Cool! I really want to see the Danaus Plexippus," Namjoon grins, watching Seokjin's expression morph into one of confusion. "Monarch butterflies, hyung."

"I just wanna see butterflies."

"I'm allergic to pollen," someone supplies unhelpfully from the side. Yoongi.

"No you're not," Seokjin says. "You're just making that up because you don't want to go. Wow, Min Yoongi is scared of butterflies...Who knew...?"

"No I'm not!" Yoongi puffs up his cheeks. "Okay, I'm going! I'm not scared! I'm not scared of anyt-eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek!"

"Hyung!" someone slaps his shoulders from behind, causing Yoongi to screech and scream. Hoseok.  "Where are we going?"

"The butterfly garden," Seokjin says. "It's my birthday so I decide."

"You didn't let me decide on my birthday," Hoseok says, pouting.

"Nor mine," Namjoon pipes up, a grin plastered across his face when Seokjin shoots him a death glare, or something along the lines of: Don't you dare.

"Getting out for some air is good for you," Seokjin says, clearing his throat. "Anyways, LET'S PACK AND GO!"

***********************************************************

"Where are we going again?"

Seokjin slaps his forehead. He's answered this question at least a thousand times, but Taehyung seems to either have short-term memory or is trying to annoy Seokjin (and all the other hyungs, while he's at it) or has accidentally swallowed a broken tape recorder.

Other than Taehyung's incessant asking of the same question, the car trip is relatively quiet. Hobeom pulls into a free parking lot and Seokjin gets out first, wanting to see the garden for himself. He distinctly hears Namjoon and Hoseok tumbling out behind him.

"Wow!"

At least someone is impressed. Park Jimin is looking around excitedly, watching as butterflies flit to and fro, even from here.

"Alright, have fun, boys," Hobeom calls. "Call me when you're done."

"Okay!" Seokjin calls back and waves as the car drives off, leaving the garden.

"Let's get going!"

************************************************************

"Apatura iris," Namjoon points to the blue butterfly that has landed on a leaf. "Did you know that butterflies belong to the Lepidoptera order, just like moths?"

"What," is all Yoongi has for a reply, while Hoseok stares at him wide-eyed. "Really?" He peers up at Yoongi. "Hyung, what does Leh-pee-doe-per-ter-ra mean?"

"Lepidoptera...Good question. Why don't you ask Namjoon?"

"But you're older than Namjoonie, hyung. That means you're smarter?"

Yoongi sighs, offering no explanation to that.

They continue walking through the trail, making their way past copses of trees and many, many butterflies. Some of which land on Seokjin's head. Some of which is batted away by Hoseok with a battle cry, because let's face it--Hoseok is the one who's scared of butterflies. Seokjin happily snaps a shot of Hoseok's gaping mouth while desperately swatting at a cutesy butterfly.

"You're so pretty, hyung," Jimin says out of the blue. Seokjin has at least three butterflies donning his head: a blue one, a Monarch, and a yellow butterfly. He's like a butterfly magnet.

"Butterflies like prettiness," Seokjin nods. ("Like me," he adds under his breath.)

"Food!" someone suddenly yells. Taehyung. In the distance, there is a food stand. For hotdogs and the like.

"I want a Butterfly Bun, hyung," Jimin pleads, scanning the menu, Jungkook by his side. "Pretty please!"

"With a cherry on top!" Jungkook adds.

Those puppy dog eyes are one day going to be the death of Seokjin.

"Alright, alright..." he mutters, and the maknae line cheer. They run towards the food stand, with Seokjin in tow (because he has the money). They each order the most expensive thing on the menu ("I'm not made of money!") and proceed to sit down at a nearby picnic table to eat.

They are in a vast, open field, with flowers all around and most likely, thousands of butterflies. There are a few flitting about, fluttering their wings gracefully, as if dancing through the air. The flowers below complement the colors of the butterflies' wings, almost glowing iridiscently under the afternoon sun.

The boys finish their meal, and are just about to set off when disaster strikes in one, little drop.

Then comes another, and another.

"You've got to be kidding me!" Seokjin exclaims. It's his birthday! Why can't the weather cooperate?

"There!" Namjoon points out a place where they can hide from the rain--a greenhouse of sorts. They find the door open, and Namjoon holds the door open for the other six brothers to enter. It's only once they're all inside does Seokjin realize that this greenhouse isn't exactly a greenhouse. It leads them on to another part of the butterfly garden down a tunnel-like entrance at the far end of the house.

There are displays on the walls along the pathway leading them deeper into the exhibit.

"Eww," Taehyung and Jungkook are peering into a display with (faux?) butterfly eggs and pupa. There is also a display on caterpillars.

"This is how the butterfly reproduces--its life cycle stages," Namjoon explains. "See, there, the eggs hatch and become the caterpillar, and when the caterpillar eats enough, it becomes a pupa, then out comes the butterfly!" Seokjin doubts anyone is listening except himself out of pure politeness...he's learned this in school already too.

The boys continue looking through some more butterfly facts.

"MOTHS AND BUTTERFLIES ARE NOT THE SAME THINGS?!" Hoseok nearly yells at the top of his lungs when he comes to a giant message written on the wall. That 'butterflies and moths have distinct differences'.

"Yeah, they aren't," Seokjin affirms. "And yes, that is a moth that was living in your closet." Seokjin had to deal with a moth that had taken residence in Hoseok and Namjoon's closet because Namjoon had left a half-eaten sandwich there for an experiment that Seokjin has no idea what results are supposed to be obtained from that.

Yes, you would expect roaches or something, but no...it was a moth.

And it's not like Seokjin can stand sleeping with the moth in the same room anyhow.

"WHOA!" Jimin's voice comes from somewhere down the road. "BUTTERFLIES!"

The other six boys proceed down the pathway, where they come face to face with a giant glass display of butterflies. There are butterflies of different colors here--all in this glass case. Butterflies can come and go as they please from the top. Some are flying in from the top, while some are leaving, batting their wings beautifully as they fly upwards.

"Whoa!" Jimin touches the glass. "WHOA!"

As if on cue, the butterflies begin to circle upwards in a haphazard show of wings, black bodies, and antennae. The seven boys watch, entranced, as the butterflies fly upwards and out of the display tube.

"Let's go!" Taehyung and Jungkook bound towards the next part of the garden, where they arrive at another greenhouse. This time, there are people in the greenhouse, learning about the different types of butterflies with a tour guide. They make their way past the tourists and continue on with their journey of the butterfly garden.

The rain has stopped, thankfully, and they are able to proceed on.

"Look at that!" Hoseok points something out. It's a rainbow--albeit faint, but still a rainbow. Butterflies are flying in their line of vision, adding even more color to the already colorful rainbow.

Seokjin snaps a shot of the rainbow and the butterflies. After marvelling at the rainbow for a solid ten minutes, they proceed on.

They come to a place, not with butterflies, but with dragonflies and damselflies and whatever that lives in those giant ponds. Sure, there are still butterflies flying about, but Seokjin seems to be seeing more and more dragonflies now. The dragonflies are here one second and gone the next. Jimin and Taehyung rush along the boardwalk, trying to catch dragonflies in their tiny little hands. Hoseok is too busy hiding behind Yoongi, and Seokjin is listening to Namjoon rattle on about the differences between dragonflies and damselflies.

It isn't long until they find themselves near the end of the butterfly garden trail.

"Hyung!" Jimin points at Seokjin's head. "You've got a butterfly on you."

"It looks so pretty, hyung," Jungook grins. "The butterfly's almost as pretty as you!"

"Thank you, thank you," Seokjin bows. Yes, it feels good to be praised. Well, it's more of a fact.

"Let's go get you a butterfly hat, hyung," Namjoon suggests.

Seokjin whole-heartedly agrees...only because Namjoon is paying.

*************************************************************************

"The butterfly won't get off your head."

Seokjin sits cross-legged on the couch, watching television. As much as he likes butterflies, he doesn't like to have one sitting on his head for the past hour. The butterfly, a pink-colored one, doesn't seem to want to move from its spot, already having created a sort of nest on Seokjin's head.

"It may lay eggs on you, hyung," Namjoon says. "And you'll have a nest of caterpillars on your head soon."

"At least this means butterflies are attracted to me instead of you."

Chapter 38: Ah, so cute! I really enjoy your stories, ty!
I cook for a living, but since I grew up with western dishes and that's what my current clientele prefer I am proudest of my soondubu jjigae which my family have been the taste testers for. However, at work, my coworkers favourite is my macaroni and cheese while the clients prefer the sweet and sour pork.
Watching RapMon chopping an onion was truly entertaining!
