Bangtan at a school play

Adventures of Bangtan toddlers

Response to lucinda818's request, in which Jungkook is acting in a school play (ft. Rapmon, Jimin, Hobi and Taehyung)

Hi, I'm back! Just a Quick Question: Who acted in a school play before? Was it fun? Lol, I acted when I was 8 years old as some flower girl and the story was about Tikki Tikki Tembo and we were forced to learn to speak his entire name in less than three seconds (well, at least the main characters, not me). It was like a crazy feat when I was eight years old. Not sure if this is what you're looking for but here!

Anyway, enjoy! Bangtan grows by one year after this play (Jin is Third Year, Yoongi becomes Second Year, Rapmon and Hobi are First Years, Jimin and Taehyung are six years old and Jungkook is four)

*******************************************

"Okay, recite your lines again," Seokjin says. Jungkook bites his lip, something which Seokjin's been trying to get him to stop doing. It's a bad habit, he said. You'll get a swollen and bleeding lip one day, Namjoon said. Though that second sentence was enough to get Jungkook to stop biting for a while, before he started doing it again.

"Uh...uh...I-I'm the TIN MAN! And I-I NEEDA GET A HEART!" Jungkook practically screamed into Seokjin's ear. Seokjin squeezes his eyes shut as he looks over at Jungkook, the innocent eyes staring up at him. "S-So I wa-wanna...follow...you..."

"I can't believe they called us back there for this," Namjoon mumbles from the opposite side of the couch. "I mean, I was supposed to attend my first Science lesson today!"

That's right. Namjoon and Hoseok have started Primary School for a week now, but Hoseok wanted to perform for the school play for the last time, because Yoongi wrote a song and Hoseok wanted to perform it, and the school allowed them instead of other professional bands and choirs out there, which Namjoon thinks is a little ridiculous. He and Hoseok have never ever performed in their lives...but well, nowhere better to start than a school play.

"Namjoonieeeee! Come practice with meeeeee!" Hoseok cries, running out from his bedroom to take a hold of Namjoon's hand and drags him towards the hyung's bedroom.

Seokjin watches them leave, before turning back to Jungkook. Jungkooks' getting the jitters--Seokjin can tell. Especially since the play is tonight. For their plot, they've decided on the classic: The Wizard of Oz. Well, Jungkook wasn't giving the leading role--nope, Jungkook can absolutely not be Dorothy, but neither is the scarecrow or the lion (not that Jungkook can ever fit the Lion's personality anyway).

"Alright, repeat the line again," Seokjin says, and Jungkook watches as Jjangu jumps onto the couch and snuggles into Seokjin's side, making Seokjin almost look like one of those princesses with her pet tiger...Jungkook just can't remember the name of the Disney movie at the moment. "But not like...so...nervous."

"B-But hyung...it's my first time!"

"And it's Tae's first time too," says Seokjin, eyeing at Taehyung, who's practicing with Jimin. Well, Taehyung's the Lion, if you can believe it. Not that it's much surprise anyway. Taehyung doesn't seem to be having much trouble.

"Right, let's go over that again."

*********************************************************************************

Seokjin looks at his video camera, making sure the battery's put in right, whether there's even any batteries in the camera, and whether there's enough space on the memory card.

"It'll be okay, hyung. Don't need to panic," Yoongi says.

"What do you mean no need to panic?" Seokjin's almost hyperventilating as he looks at Yoongi. "What if Taehyung slips? What if Jungkook gets stage fright? What if Namjoon forgets his lines? What if Hoseok messes up his dance? It'll be an absolute disaster!"

"Your big words come out when you're excited, hyung," Yoongi turns to face the stage, on some lollipop that he somehow magicked out of nowhere. "What's absolute? What's disaster?"

"Not important right now!" Seokjin hisses, readying the camera. It's going to start really soon! They're sitting at front row seats, because since there are four of them taking part in the play, they managed to save three VIP seats for their brothers.

"Stop scaring Jimin, hyung. He's nervous enough as he is," Yoongi nods towards Jimin, who's in their middle, and clutching at his jacket, trying to hide his face in it. "What if Kookie gets stage fright? Then Kookie will be so scared! I, as hyung, have to go save him!"

"Kookie doesn't need your help now, dumbo," Yoongi says.

"HYUNG! YOONGI-HYUNG SAID I'M A DUMBO!" Jimin screeches, pointing at Yoongi while looking at Seokjin, and Yoongi's just shooting Jimin a glare for tattling on him.

"Don't call Jimin a dumbo, Yoongi," Seokjin mumbles. He notices that it's starting when the lights dim and spotlights appear out of nowhere, focused on two tiny figures walking up the stage--one is Sungjae, Taehyung's close friend and Sooji from Miss A--whom Seokjin has only ever seen once in his life but the impression was deep as the first sentence she said to him was, "SEOKJIN-OPPA YOU'RE SO PRETTY!" And she practically screamed it in his ear.

"Welcome to our school play!" Sooji announces. "This year, we're doing the Wizard of Oz!"

"And the Wizard of Oz is a story where Dorothy finds her way through a magical place after getting lost because of a tornado!" Sungjae gives a brief overview of the play.

"Enjoy!" the two emcees/narrators bow down and the curtain opens.

********************************************************************

"Hyung! It's starting!" Jungkook cries, pulling his hyung away from the curtain as the red curtains open. They run backstage and hide. Jungkook's beginning to itch because of his outfit. The tin is really unflattering for him. Taehyung, meanwhile, just looks really cute with that lion costume, with whiskers painted on, and he has a mane on his costume, with fake, fluffy ears.

"Is that Hwa-noona, hyung?" Jungkook points to the girl on stage, singing some song that's supposed to open the whole play.

"Yeah, Jiminnie's girlfriend!" Taehyung whispers in a somewhat high-pitched voice.

Jungkook watches as Hwa prances about, her pigtails swishing in the air (though he doesn't know how that's possible) and as the song reaches the , Jungkook can find himself humming to it too. After that, cue the Grandma and Grandpa--Gaeun from Afterschool and Yugyeom from Got7, who pretend to hobble onstage. There's the usual conversation, before his hyung's appearance, along with Mark and Jackson from Got7 and Momo from TWICE. Hoseok leads the group, all of them dressed up to represent strong winds--essentially, the cyclone that hits Dorothy's house in Kansas.

Hoseok dances skilfully, as Namjoon's voice rings out through the auditorium.

"Y'don't mess with me, I'm a tornado
Crashing through the house, just leggo
I'm gonna huff, huff, puff and blow your house down
Just like the big bad wolf and three little pigs
It'll be all over for you
Just watch 'cos you'd never even know
Just what hit you hard till the end
When you gasp for your breath and you hear the scream
The wind just hits with no mercy, never!"

Jungkook has to quieten Taehyung down while the hyung just tries to belt out Namjoon's rap too although he has no idea what he's saying.

*******************************************************************

"That's your song, Yoongi?" Seokjin looks at Yoongi in disbelief. Usually, Yoongi never uses such big words in his everyday life. Seokjin wonders if Yoongi has had a teeny bit...never mind, a lot of help.

"Yeah, it's my song!" Yoongi grins.

"It's really good, hyung," Jimin's eyes crinkle up into a smile.

"It is, isn't it?" Yoongi looks smug as Seokjin shushes them.

The scene then changes to that of Kyungsoo and Minhyuk run up the stage to place the cardboard standees of a giant house, and Hwa runs behind the house, appearing from the door. "Where is this?"

A song breaks out again, and this time, a few children run onstage--half of whom Seokjin don't recognize except for probably Hyunsik from BtoB and Jiyeon from Lovelyz--and start dancing. Seokjin watches as they form a circle around Dorothy and start singing some other song about the witch being dead. In which Hwa looks down at her house, and notices a pair of drawn-on legs sticking out from underneath the house, which Yoongi actually finds laughable. It's drawn so badly that...

"Jungkook drew that," Seokjin hisses, almost as if he knows what Yoongi's thinking about.

"I know that," Yoongi nods. I didn't know that. "Did you know I wrote half the songs for this play?"

"You did?" Seokjin looks straight at him. "You have so much time on your hands?" Looks like his dongsaeng is more talented than he gave him credit for.

"Yeah," Yoongi shrugs. "No big deal, really."

Impressive, Seokjin thinks, as he looks straight at the stage, as the "munchkins" have finished dancing and are now "questioning" Hwa about her being in the Munchkin land, before Yerin from G-Friend walks on stage, clad in a blue dress that makes Seokjin think of Elsa from Frozen, but the costume was otherwise not really badly chosen.

"I'm the Good Witch of the South!" Yerin grins, "And you've managed to defeat the Wicked Witch of the East! I'm so proud of you!" She moves over to give Hwa a hug, before saying. "Who are you, girl? And how did you end up in the Land of Oz?"

"This is the Land of Oz?" Hwa looks at Yerin disbelievingly. Seokjin must admit, her acting skills are no joke. He'd have to work harder if he were to try to beat her.

"Yeah," Yerin nods. "Where did you come from? And what's your name?"

"Uh, uh..." Hwa suddenly looks panicked, before straightening herself, and saying, "I'm Dorothy, from Kansas!"

"Kansas? Never heard of a Kansas," Yerin scratches her head. This girl's acting is great too. "Maybe you need to go see the Wizard of Oz! He'll help you!"

"Yeah, maybe," Hwa nods, before she gives Hwa a pair of shoes. "This is a flying shoes! You may need them!"

"Thanks!" Hwa nods, before heading off into the makeshift Emerald forest.

***********************************************************************

Jungkook watches as Hwa comes across to the backstage, and she hurriedly cues Kyungsoo and Minhyuk to change the scene and for Bambam to get ready. Bambam's in a scarecrow outfit with a few straws poking out of his collar, sleeves, and his overall pants.

"Why's his name so weird?" Jungkook asks Taehyung. "Why's it called Bambam?"

"But you wouldn't want to call him Kunpimook, right?" Taehyung reasons. Jungkook must admit his hyung looks kind of cute with those lion whiskers painted on his face and his mane around his head with the fluffy ears on the Lion onesie that is his costume.

"Kunpimook? That's his real name? It doesn't sound Korean..." Jungkook comments.

"Because he's a Thai!" Taehyung grins excitedly. "And he's sooooo cute!"

Jungkook doesn't like that. He doesn't like his hyung saying another maknae is cute (not that Bambam is the maknae of Got7 anyway--that's Yugyeom's place). He doesn't like his hyung saying anyone else is cute except himself.

"But you're cuter, Jungkookie!" Taehyung grins, knocking the tin helmet that's part of Jungkook's outfit. "No one's cuter than you!"

Well, that kind of makes Jungkook's day.

***********************************************************************

"JUNGKOOKIE!" Jimin cries, hollering Jungkook's name as he watches Jungkook emerge from the curtains, walking towards Hwa and Bambam with his clanking metal-like outfit.

Seokjin's already aimed the camera at Jungkookie, looking almost like a proud mom, Yoongi would say.

"Who are you?" Hwa looks over at Jungkookie, though through prior knowledge, she knows exactly who he is.

"I-I'm the TIN MAN! And I need a HEART!" Jungkook screams the final words of the sentences. He moves towards Hwa and Bambam almost in a threatening way.

"Stop right there!" Bambam cries, as per the script, Seokjin remembers (since he's woken up in the middle of the night before to help a nervous Jungkook practice). "I'm the Scarecrow!"

"A-A-And I'm the TIN MAN!"

Yoongi just wants to laugh at Jungkook's tortured and nervous expression. But then again, why not just enjoy the show?

**********************************************************************

"You wanna come with us?" Hwa asks, grinning and holding a hand out to Jungkook.

"Yup!" Jungkook smiles, and follows Hwa and Bambam, as per the script. Though he needs to see it later, since he forgot part of it (despite Seokjin helping him rehearse it every day). The three of them head off the stage and the lights go off again. Jungkook quickly rushes over to Taehyung to find the script, but Taehyung has to head off onstage now. He dumps the script on Jungkook with a rectangular smile before rushing out just as the lights flicker on.

Jungkook reads through the script, and Hwa grabs his arm, pulling him onstage and Jungkook drops the script, managing to get a glimpse of his lines.

"Hello! Who are you?" Hwa asks, looking at Taehyung, whom Jungkook admits has great acting skills. Taehyung literally jumps five feet into the air, and turns around to face Hwa.

"Are you the Wicked Witch of the East?"

"No, no," Hwa smiles. "I'm Dorothy."

"That's a weird name," Taehyung says.

"Who are you?" Bambam asks.

"I'm the Lion!" Taehyung announces, before realizing his mistake--the Lion is supposed to be a cowardly character, so he coughs, and tries to act timid. "I-I mean...I'm t-trying to g-g-g-go to the Wizard of O-Oz, but he...I...I'm t-t-too scared!"

"That's okay!" Hwa covers Taehyung's mistake. "We can go together!"

"But why do you need to go?" Jungkook asks.

"B-Because I-I wanna g-get courage," Taehyung says, and Jungkook has to stifle the urge to laugh at Taehyung's scared expression. Acting is really Taehyung's forte. "W-Why do you want to g-go?"

"I'm trying to find a way back to my hometown, which is in Kansas--I wasn't from here," Hwa says, saying her lines flawlessly. "And Scarecrow is trying to get a brain. Tin Man is trying to get a heart."

"Wow!" Taehyung gives Hwa a shocked look before turning towards the audience with said look; a few snorts sounding from the rest of the audience. "A-And I can come with you?"

"Yup!" Hwa nods. "We can all go together!"

With that, the Lion, a.k.a. Kim Taehyung, joins the group of misfits to head on over to the castle of the Wizard of Oz.

*******************************************************************

Then, the story progresses as normal, Seokjin and Jimin listening intently to some of Namjoon's raps that appear once in a while, not to mention that Hoseok appears sometimes with his seemingly-perfect dance routines (though from his many hours of practice with Seokjin watching, he can tell a few mistakes that Hoseok covers up like a professional). Jungkook and Taehyung relay their lines with the skills of actual actors, at least in Seokjin's opinion.

"And now, I shall present to you, a brain!" the kid playing the Wizard of Oz announces to the audience, as he digs out a white, mashed piece of clay. Fine, it looks remotely like a brain, and he places it under Bambam's Scarecrow hat.

"I shall present to you a heart!" the Wizard of Oz (Seokjin vaguely remembers his name being Moonbin or something like that) cries, the hat almost falling off his tiny head. He holds up a piece of plasticine (Yoongi is so sure it's plasticine) painted red all over, most likely representing a heart and gives it to Jungkook, who cheers. Well, it was close enough.

"Now! I shall present to you courage!" Moonbin holds up a signboard which says "Courage", and holds it in the air for some time (to let the audience read the words) before handing it over to Taehyung, who graciously accepts it.

"And you, what do you want, my girl?" Moonbin asks Hwa.

"Uh...I need to get home to Kansas," Hwa says.

"Kansas? I've heard of it! In fact, was from Kansas!" The Wizard of Oz bellows to the audience--more screaming than bellowing, to be exact.

"Really? Then you can bring me h--" Hwa stops and gasps. It almost looked as if she forgot her lines, but it was part of the script. No, don't ask how Seokjin remembers the entire script. "You haven't left! That means...is there no way to get back to Kansas?"

"Well, I can think of one," Moonbin says. "You've to ride a hot air balloon!"

"Hot air balloon?" Hwa asks.

"Yeah!" Moonbin nods excitedly. "You gotta fly all the way to Kansas in a hot air balloon!"

"Hot air balloon? Wow!" Hwa cries, looking as excited as Moonbin is.

"Yeah! Come back in three days and I'll present to you your hot air balloon!"

******************************************************************

"It's almost my turn!" Wheein cries, or more like whispers, as she heads out, dressed in her Wicked Witch of the West outfit, complete with the black hat and the black gown. Hwa remains onstage, even as the lights dim and the characters run about, Kyungsoo and Minhyuk and some other kid changing the background of the stage while actors and actresses get into position.

Seokjin watches as Hwa confronts the Wicked Witch of the West, and after which, defeats the Wicked Witch of the West. She heads out, and is greeted by the Good Witch of the North.

"Well, I'm glad you made it this far," the Good Witch of the North says to Hwa.

"Yes, but defeating the Wicked Witch of the West is not going to bring me home," Hwa cries, sadness in her voice.

"You do have one thing in your arsenal that you can use," says the Good Witch of the North. "And that is the flying shoes!"

"You means these?" Hwa looks down at her feet and points to them.

"Yes, exactly those!" the Good Witch of the North explains.

"Great! You're going to go home, Dorothy!" Jungkook cries, grinning.

"But will we ever see you again?" Bambam asks, trying to look sad, though Yoongi can see tinges of a smile at his lips.

"Yes, we will!" Hwa pets Taehyung's mane.

"I'll be seeing you, then!" Hwa smiles and waves, more at the audience than her friends. With that, she runs offstage, pretending to fly.

Then, Gaeun and Yugyeom appear again, as the scene changes to a house.

"Oh! Dorothy!" Gaeun exclaims, running towards Hwa who flies into the house. Yugyeom stands up from his chair and yells, "Hwa!" too. The two "grandparents" envelop their "granddaughter" in a tight hug, as the audience starts clapping. Again, Namjoon's voice rings out through the audience. He is singing a melody and a calm one at that.

"I wrote it," Yoongi grins, feeling proud of himself as he watches the entire cast run onstage, the propmasters and the emcees/narrators and dancers too, and give a bow. They wave just as the curtain closes and Namjoon's song ends.

****************************************************************

"That was great, Jungkookie!" Seokjin hugs Taehyung and Jungkook. "Your acting was great too, Tae!"

"Yeah! You like it, Jin-hyung?" Hoseok asks, running up to hug the group of three.

"Of course! Your dance moves were amazing, Hoseok!"

Hoseok grins as wide as his mouth can probably allow him. "How about Namjoonie's rap and singing?"

To be honest, Seokjin never knew his dongsaengs had this much talent. "Yep, that was great too!"

****************************************************************

It isn't long before Seokjin has to tuck Jungkook and Taehyung into bed, especially after all that excitement. They got to keep the costumes, because honestly, next year's play is going to be Peach and Blue and there is no need for the costumes.

Seokjin remembers reading to Namjoon and Hoseok about Peach and Blue, but Hoseok wasn't really paying attention, but Namjoon is all focused on the peach and the frog and the story itself. But that's a story for another day. Seokjin places the mess of a tin man costume in the corner of the maknae's bedroom, along with the Lion's costume. He hadn't managed to wash the face paint off Taehyung's face before the younger jumped into bed and just...fell asleep. Jungkook too, but at least he managed to get his dongsaeng out of the uncomfortable-looking costume.

Jimin has just finished brushing his teeth and is yawning. He climbs up to his bunk above Taehyung's and just falls asleep. Soon, the three maknaes are sleeping like logs. Breathing a sigh of relief, Seokjin makes sure the heater is to the right temperature before closing the door silently and heading back to the hyung's bedroom, where Yoongi and Hoseok are out like lights but Namjoon is still scribbling on his notepad.

"Go to sleep, Namjoon," Seokjin says. "Have you brushed your teeth yet? You must be tired."

"I'm not tired, hyung," Namjoon answers, closing his notepad. "And I brushed my teeth already."

"Alright then, hyung needs to sleep too, so just...go sleep," Seokjin says. He switches the main light off, leaving the lamp on Namjoon's bedside table lit, as he crawls into his covers and sleeps.

Chapter 38: Ah, so cute! I really enjoy your stories, ty!
I cook for a living, but since I grew up with western dishes and that's what my current clientele prefer I am proudest of my soondubu jjigae which my family have been the taste testers for. However, at work, my coworkers favourite is my macaroni and cheese while the clients prefer the sweet and sour pork.
Watching RapMon chopping an onion was truly entertaining!
