Texting with Jungkook had become like this: a series of one word replies and smiling emoticons.

Correction: the same smiling emoticon. 

When you started dating a few months ago, he was all out with the texting. Sending good morning messages; simple reminders like: "eat your lunch", "don't stress yourself out", "keep smiling!" 

But now, he could hardly text you a full sentence! He wouldn't even spell out "okay".... Just "K" and it's drove you crazy.

"Maybe he's just busy." Your friend Jinnie reasoned one day as you told her about your little problem over lunch. 

"He's always busy." You countered.

"Exactly."

"Jinnie, I'm being serious." You huffed as you poked on your salad, suddenly loosing the appetite. "He hardly talks to me anymore. And it's not just the texts, the phone calls too!"

It was true, Jungkook hardly had time to talk to you over the phone. If you did, it was always you who called first and he to hang up first. "I don't know... I feel like he's--"

Jinnie frowned, "Oh Y/N, don't even think that. I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation."

"Like what?"

"Uh.." Jinnie clucked her tongue on her cheek. "He's...busy?"

You groaned, realizing how your friend was of no help at all. "Okay I'm not even going to ask anymore." You chuckled. "Thanks for trying, though."

"But seriously, Y/N. I'm sure what you're thinking isn't it."

"What did you think I was thinking?

"That he's grown tired of you?" She suggested and by the looks of her triumphant smile, you knew she saw your expression falter. That's exactly what you were thinking. "I'm sure he's just busy, Y/N." 

"I hope you're right." You mumbled with a sigh as you swallowed down the olive from your salad; tasting awfully bitter for your taste.

Two days later, you had no school and you took the chance to visit your boyfriend at their studio. You brought food and didn't bother letting him know beforehand because you wanted to surprise him. You also thought it would be a good opportunity to hang out--to break the ice, as you would call it.

We've been dating for several months now, you thought. What more ice is their to break?!

Arriving at Big Hit, you couldn't help but feel a little nervous. At the fact that you were excited to see him after two weeks or the fact that you were afraid he'll be his usual cold self? It was hard to tell. 

You had contacted one of the members, Jimin specifically, since he was the closest to you among the boys, and asked whether they would be too busy for you to visit.

"No, it's fine. We're just polishing some of our old dance routines."

"Oh okay." You said. "So I'll go around one-ish?"

"Sure." He said and you heard him smile. "Should I tell Jungkook?"

"No!" You said almost instantly. "I mean, I want to surprise him."

"Oh." Jimin snickered and you chuckled. "I see. We'll see you later then!"


Now as you stood in front of their dance studio, a paperbag of lunches you prepared for the boys in hand, you couldn't help but feel anxious. 

"Get a grip, Y/N." You said to yourself. "You're his girlfriend. You have every right to be here--"

Just then the door swung open revealing a sweaty Taehyung. When his eyes met yours, his face broke into a grin. "Y/N-ah!"

"Hey, Tae oppa." You smiled as you raised the bag in your hands. "I got lunch."

Taehyung made a cute face as he helped you with the bags, opening the door to let you in. "Yah! We have lunch hyungs!"

"Wae?!" 

You entered the room and was met by five smiling faces. Unfortunately, the face you wanted to see the most had his back currently facing you.

"Yeah, courtesy of Jungkookie's girlfriend." At that announcement, Jungkook turned around with wide eyes. You smiled shyly at him the moment his eyes met yours. "Hey."

"Hey." He said and you tried to hide the disappointment in your face when he looked at you blankly; as if your presence meant nothing... As if he didn't want you there.

You shook yourself from the thought and smiled sweetly, "I got you guys lunch! Eat up!"

Hoseok sighed as he went to get his food, "Gomawo Y/N-ah. You're a life saver!"

"If it doesn't work out between you and Jungkook, I'll be happy to take you in." Yoongi winked, which you returned with a grin. You looked back at Jungkook and saw him staring at you, looking bored and at the same time annoyed. You realized that he wasn't getting any of the food you brought. "Oppa." You said as you pointed at the bag. "Aren't you eating?"

He shrugged, "No."

"Why not?"

"Dieting."

You pouted, "Wae? At least come sit here with the rest of us--"

"I have to go to vocal rehearsals." He said and your face fell at the fact that he wants to leave when you just got here. 

"Oh?" You asked sadly.

"You sure you don't want some?" Jin asked. "It's not everyday Y/N comes here with lunch." You smiled at Jin, appreciating his effort to make him stay. 

"It's okay, hyung." he grabbed his bag and on the way out, he patted your shoulder. "I'll call you later." He said before leaving.

You sighed as the door closed, staring at it sadly. You suddenly felt a poke on your cheek and found Jimin giving you a concerned gaze. "You okay?"

You blinked then nodded with a smile. "Yeah. Can you pass me the bowl? I'm starved."

Jimin smiled and passed you the food. You opened it up and tried to eat happily, for the sake of the boys; even though the recent encounter with Jungkook just made you loose your appetite.

Two days passed and he didn't call back. He didn't text nor did he reply to any of your messages. You started getting worried about the current status of your relationship. It was pretty obvious that he was was getting bored. The signs were right there! But then you started getting angry, thinking how on earth he could do this to you when all you ever did was be a good girlfriend.

That night, you sent him a text; telling him about your day, how much you missed him, and how much you wished you could be with him. You also told him to take care of himself, to not go overboard on his dieting, and to have a good night sleep.

You waited for a reply.

And waited...

And waited...

After two hours, he finally did:

At that, you knew. 

You knew your relationship was going downhill and there was simply no stopping it.

It's better to do it now than let it go on for god knows how long when the inevitable was pretty clear: we're falling apart. 

You thought about that fact over and over again, feeling your heart break a little more at every repetition. You didn't want to believe it, but it was hard to ignore when all the signs were there. 

A few days of more one-word replies, short-clipped phone calls, and blatant ignorance, you snapped. And you finally came to a decision:

You were going to end things with Jeon Jungkook. 

You went to Big Hit right after school, your heart heavy and your mind reeling at the thought of what you were about to do. You didn't want to do it, but you knew it was better this way than have yourself go through the pain of being ignored; to put up with his cold behavior then end up hurting in the end. You hardly even talk to him or spend time with him; and you wonder:

Is there even really an "us" anymore?

As you made your way to the studio, your heart hammering in your chest at every step, you thought about the ways on how you were going to tell him. How do I tell him? Should I just tell him straight out—?

"Y/N?"

You were in the middle of muttering your break up speech when you heard your name being called by a familiar voice. Your breath hitched as you turned around, your eyes widening when you caught sight of Jungkook, looking at you….

—with a smile. "Hey." 

"H—hey." You stuttered, feeling your heart race at the sight of him. It's been a while since you've seen him actually smile—much less directly at you. 

"What are you doing here?" He asked, tilting his head; his smile faltering a bit. 

"I—I came to see you."

"Oh?" He frowned. "Y/N. We're a little busy right now." He pointed to the studio behind you. “You could have called first.”

Like you would even pick up, you scoffed inwardly.  “But it's really important—“

"Yah! Jungkook!" Yoongi's head suddenly popped out of nowhere, making you jump. You realized too late that the studio’s door just opened. "Are you coming—“ his eyes suddenly landed on you, "Oh hey, Y/N."

"Hey." You smiled. 

He smiled back then looked back at Jungkook with a smirk, "Am I interrupting?"

You were about to say yes but Jungkook beat you to it. "No. She was just leaving."

That felt like a slap and you gasped inwardly at his statement. He doesn't even want me here, you thought. 

"Oh okay." Yoongi waved at you. "Nice seeing you, Y/N." Before going inside again. 

Jungkook walked towards you, "I better go. I'll call you later, okay?" He said as he passed you; the words like a reverb in your head. The same words he had promised you over and over again for the past few weeks. 

"You don't have to." You muttered and you closed your eyes when you felt him stop. 

"What?"

You took a deep breath before turning to face him. Jungkook had his hand on the doorknob, looking at you questioningly. "I said," you huffed. "You don't have to."

"Why not—“

"Because I'm breaking up with you." You blurted and Jungkook's eyes widened. "Wha—“


"I want to break up, Jungkook." You said, feeling like a ton of weight was lifted from your chest, but at the same time, a burden seemed to be pressing down on you when you saw the look of hurt flashing in his brown eyes. Why does he look like that?, you thought. 

"But—“ he opened his mouth, and then closed it; looking lost and slightly bewildered. "W—why?”

You scoffed at his reply, "You're really asking me that, Jungkook?"

He took a moment to let your words sink in before seeing the realization dawning on his face. "Y/N—“

You held up your hand, “It’s fine. You don’t have to explain. I totally get it.” You gasped, feeing the tears come but you held them back by biting your lip. You told yourself that you shouldn’t be crying when you’re the on dumping him.

“But—“

“Tell me Jungkook, did I ever mean anything to you?” you said, asking him the question you had been dying to ask him ever since he had become cold towards you. 

Jungkook looked at you as if you asked the stupidest question ever. “Of course—“

“Well it didn’t feel like it.” You confessed. “I’m sorry Jungkook, but I don’t think I want to be with someone who acts like he doesn’t want to be around me or doesn’t even have the time to say a full sentence to me—“

"Jungkook!" A voice called and you sighed at the sudden interruption. “Forget it.” You said as you nodded towards the studio. "You should go, I'll just—“ You hooked your thumb over your shoulder. Jungkook looked indecisive as he switched his gaze back and forth to the studio door and to you. "But I—“

"Jungkook!" A voice called again and he huffed as he opened the door to peek in. "Wait a second, hyung!" He yelled before closing it again and looking back at you. "Y/N—“

He didn’t get to say what he wanted to say for you were already nowhere in sight. “No..” he whispered as he started to run after you.

“Yah! Jungkook! Hyung’s gonna kill us if you don’t get your in here.” Jimin said, his head poking from inside the studio. 

Jungkook stopped, turning to look at his hyung and then back towards the hallway where you had left.

What have I done?
