Episode 1

Into the New World

It was January 1st and I was awake bright and early this morning, only today I wouldn’t be complaining about it. I haven’t seen Tiffany since Christmas and I was definitely missing her. Thankfully today we would be filming for We Are Dating, which is what our show is going to be called. How exciting right?

I thought so at least…

The first episode aired on the 6th, so I really hope that MBC had a great editing team. That only gave them around five days to get everything shot and edited. Oh well!

I was sitting in our dorm nervously waiting for the next set of instructions. What would we be doing today? Ah! I hope it was something fun! Hyung had just told me earlier that I needed to be awake and ready because a camera crew was coming to pick me up at around eight.

Soon enough I heard someone coming through the door. I stood up

“Ah, Dobin hyung annyeonghaseyo. Are you coming with me today?” He hummed.

“I was also asked to give you this.” He handed me a card.

“Omo, a mission card?” I looked up to see him nodding. Wah, this was going to be very similar to WGM! I opened the card and read it aloud.

“To: Taeyeon-ssi,

Please pack an overnight bag. Tonight you will be spending the first night together with Tiffany at an undisclosed location.

-We Are Dating Staff”

I internally laughed a little, if they only knew… I had to make a good reaction though.

“Wah~! Jinjja? A trip?” Dobin nodded. “Dobin-ah, do you know where?”

“I can’t tell you that Taeyeon-ah.”

“Aish, you’re no fun,” I joked. “Okay. I’ll go pack a bag.” I was followed to my room by the cameraman where I pulled a large backpack out of my closet. Crap, what did I even need to bring? “Hyung! Oh,” I saw that he was actually in the room now too. “My bad. What do I need to pack? Anything specific?”

“Aniyo, just a change of clothes for tomorrow.” I nodded. Ugh, he wasn’t letting any details slip by. I was curious though, I know I didn’t have any overnight trips on my list. God only knows what Tiffany could have come up with…

Fifteen minutes later I had almost everything ready to go. I stopped in the bathroom to get my toothbrush and I was done.

“Alright! I’m good to go.”

“Okay, you have to drive to go pick Tiffany-ssi up now.” Wait.

“I do?” He nodded.

“Here,” he said as he handed me a set of keys. “You’ll be driving to the location later too.”

“Seriously?” He nodded again. “Wow, daebak.” They really went all out for us didn’t they?

When we all made it out to the parking garage, one of the crew members then took a few minutes to explain to me where all the cameras were inside the car. There were three altogether. I guess they didn’t even want to miss us blinking. Whatever. Eventually, I was able to finally get in and head toward SNSD’s dorm.

She was thankfully waiting in the lobby for me. I hurriedly got out and went to help her with her bag, but not before I was being pulled in for a quick morning kiss and a big hug from the latter. I don’t know if she forgot we were filming, or if she just didn’t care, but I was fully aware. It was so weird to not have to worry about the cameras anymore, actually they probably wanted to catch us kissing and touching whenever they could since it was a show about us dating after all.

“Good morning Taetae.”

“Good morning Fany-ah. Did you eat?” She shook her head. Omo. “And why not?”

“I woke up late. We just got back from Japan last night so I’m really tired,” she whined. Oh crap, that’s right. SNSD had recently been pushing their Japanese activities very hard. Although I was glad she was finally able to perform and everything with her group again, I kind of hated it because it meant she would be spending more and more time away from me.

“Arasso,” I said while cupping her pout stricken face. “We’ll get something before we leave.” I picked up her bag, which was super heavy by the way. “Jesus, what do you have in here?”

“I brought everything I might end up needing for our trip, why?” Wait a second.

“You don’t know where we’re going either?” She shook her head.

“I thought this was your pick.” Suddenly a crew member jumped out with another mission card. Oh god. I was already over this. She took it and read it.

“To: Taeny Couple,

“Wah~ Tae we get our own couple name and everything.” I grinned. She started reading it again.

“Congratulations on your first episode of We Are Dating! Today you will be driving yourselves to visit-“

She paused. “What? Where are we going?"

“Today you will be driving yourselves to visit and stay with Taeyeon-ssi’s family for one night. The coordinates are already programed in to the GPS. Good luck!

-We Are Dating Staff

“Jinjja?” She nodded. Oh my god. “Wah~!” I jumped. “This is awesome!” I looked at Tiffany, who did seem all that excited. “What’s wrong Fany-ah?”

“Nothing,” she lied. She really was the worst liar I have ever met.

“Tiffany.”

“I-I’m just a little nervous now.” I laughed as I picked up her bag again.

“Don’t be, my mom and sister loved you remember? Let’s go!” I grabbed her free hand and started pulling her along with me.

I put her bag in the trunk beside mine as the PD told us that were going straight to Jeonju now. Wah~! I was so excited to see everyone. It’s been probably at least six months since I’ve seen my mom and way longer than that for my dad.

One of her managers along with mine got in to the van that had been following me. The cameramen, PD and our managers were all riding in that, while Tiffany and I would be driving ourselves. I pointed out the cameras to her just as I was shown a little earlier.

“Okay, let’s see if I can figure this thing out.” I started pressing a few buttons on the GPS. I heard a sudden loud beep followed by Tiffany’s laughter.

“I don’t think that was it.” I shushed her and tried again. I hit a few more buttons.

“Turn right on Olympic Road.”

“Ahha! You were saying?” She stuck out her tongue. I followed it’s orders and began driving. After a few minutes Tiffany broke the silence.

“Taeyeon.” I hummed. I was more focused on trying to get in to the left lane because I had to make a turn here soon. “I didn’t bring anything for your parents.”

“Okay? Neither did I…” Aish! This stupid guy just cut me off. Yeah, I didn’t miss driving at all.

“What? Why not? Ugh it doesn’t matter. We need to stop and get them something.” What? Why was she freaking out?

“Don’t worry Tiffany, we don’t need to bring them anything. They’ll be fine with just seeing me,” I joked.

“Taeyeon, Christmas was last week and today is New Year’s!” Oh . I totally forgot!

“Okay. We need to stop somewhere.”

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Fifteen minutes later we were in front of the Times Square shopping complex in Yeongdeungpo. Since it was the closest one the PD said we could just stop there. We quickly found a parking spot. Taeyeon then ran over to my side and opened the door for me. He was so cute.

“Thank you.” He grinned. We went to the van where our managers and the crew were so we could figure out what we were doing.

“Alright so we’ll send two cameras with you and your managers will also go to help keep the crowds away. Usually they’re pretty good about staying back when we film though.” We nodded. It sounded like a plan to me. They checked our mics one more time and we were off.

Taeyeon grabbed my hand again as we made it through the revolving doors.

“Where do you think we should go first?”

“Why are you asking me Tae, it’s your family!” Jesus, this boy was going to kill me.  He laughed.

“I guess you’re right… Should the gifts be from both of us?” I thought about it. That would save me the embarrassment and trouble of trying to find my own gifts for them.

“It’s up to you Tae.”

“Then it’s settled. Wah~,” he sounded. “Our first presents being given as a couple.” Omo, he was right. I felt a fuzzy feeling in my stomach as I bit my lip. This was exciting!

I let go of his hand and linked my arm in his. I wanted to be closer to him all of a sudden.

Was this what the future was going to be like? Us shopping for other people, together? Giving gifts as one? Ah! I don’t know why, but I was feeling giddy now. Maybe getting married wouldn’t be so-

“Oh.” I stopped.

“Oh?”

“The stores don’t open until 10:30.” He looked at his watch and then to the PD that came with us. “We have a half an hour.”

“We’ll just have to wait then. You really have to get them something right?” I nodded immediately. We couldn’t just show up empty handed. “Okay, let’s see-“

“I think Starbucks is open downstairs,” one of the cameramen announced. Omo!

“Jinjja?” he nodded. I looked at Taeyeon.

“Omo! That’s right! You didn’t even eat. PD-nim, can we go there while we wait?”

She agreed and a few minutes later we were sitting in a far off booth inside the shop. Taeyeon had just returned with our drinks and a breakfast sandwich for me. I kissed his cheek and thanked him. I noticed people curiously watching us, but it was nothing too out of hand thankfully.

“We found a mall directory, so you can see what stores you want to check out.”

“Thank you,” Taeyeon said as he took the brochure. It actually turned out to be a quite large map after he unfolded it all. “So, I think Hayeon will be the easiest to look for,” he commented. I hummed and took a bite.

“I think so too.” I actually had forgotten about her, for I was too worried about his mother and his father, which I have yet to meet. “What should we get her?”

“I dunno. What do ten year olds like?” Ugh.

“Taeyeon you really are no help.” He laughed.

“I’m sorry! I never see her, I don’t know what she’s in to these days.” I frowned. I guess he was right. Hmm. What did ten year olds like though? Dolls? Toys? Ah! I know!

“Do you think we can just pick her out a cute outfit?” I was definitely confident in choosing clothes. Fashion was one of my favorite things! He started to nod. Yes!

“That would work! I don’t know her size though...” Damnit! Well…

“I doubt it will be too hard to figure it out. Right?” He shrugged and then looked at the map.

“Ah! There’s a GAP for kids here.”

“Perfect!” He then pulled a pen out of his backpack and marked on the map. “Okay what about your mom and dad?”

“Appa really likes scotch,” he laughed. “Oh, can I even say that on here?” He looked around. “I can? Okay. Well I think that’s what we should get him.”

“Taeyeon,” I warned. We couldn’t just give them half assed presents! This was our first presents being given as a couple! They had to be good!

“No, I’m serious. He’ll love it. Dobin-ah,” he motioned for his manager. “Can you go to a market and buy,” he whispered, I’m assuming, the name of it in his ear. We both know we weren’t allowed to say brand names. If we did they would just be censored out anyway. Taeyeon dug through his bag again. “Here. I don’t know how much it costs, but if that’s enough get two.” I saw him hand his manager a $100 dollar bill.

“Taeyeon!”

“Tiffany! I promise he’ll like it.” He paused. “You can pick out a gift for umma. I think she likes you more than me anyway.” What! A sudden rush of panic spread over me.

“Ani! I can’t pick it out! You have to help Taeyeon-ah.” He laughed again and then put his hand on mine.

“Tiffany calm down. They’ll like whatever we bring, seriously. My parents are easy to please.” Whatever! I was still nervous.

“Is it just going to be your mom, dad and sister? Remember when we visited my family? Everyone came.” Oh god. I just said that on camera. I looked around but no one seemed to have picked up on it. Whew.

“That’s a good question. PD-nim,” he called out. “Does my family know were coming or are we surprising them?”

“No, they know Taeyeon-ssi.”

“Oh,” he paused. Oh? Oh!? “Okay thank you.”

“Oh what,” I quickly asked.

“Well it’s just that if they know, they’re probably going to call my aunts and uncles too.” Oh god.

“Jin-jinjja?” He hummed.

“I’ll call my mom.” He pulled out his phone. After we set up the microphone for it, he hit a few buttons. We heard it ringing.

“Yeboseyo?”

“Umma! You’re on speaker phone.”

“Taeyeon-ah,” she said back. She sounded happy too. “Where are you? Have you left yet? What time do you think-“

“Umma, calm down,” Taeyeon cut her off. “We haven’t left yet. I’m with Tiffany and we’re picking up a few things first and then we’ll be on our way.”

“Oh Tiffany’s there too?” Oh no! Taeyeon looked at me and nodded toward the phone in his hand. Ugh.

“Ne,” I said. “Annyeonghaseyo eomonim!”

“How are you? Has Taeyeon been good to you?” I grinned.

“Ne, eomonim. He’s been very good,” I laughed. “He actually just bought me breakfast!”

“He should be doing that anyway,” she called back. I started to laugh as Taeyeon started whining. Maybe today wouldn’t be so bad…

“Umma~, I didn’t call you to get scolded! Who all is going to be there today?”

She then went on to list around almost ten more people. Oh my god. There were going to be so many! How was I supposed to do this?

“Arasso, I just wanted to know how many gifts I should bring,” Taeyeon laughed. I smacked his arm. Ugh, you weren’t supposed to tell them we were bringing them things jesus Taeyeon!

“Oh don’t worry about us. Just hurry down here, we don’t need anything,” she said. Taeyeon shot me an ‘I told you so’ look.

“Okay umma, we’ll hurry! I’ll see you soon!” We all said their goodbyes and then they hung up. “See! I told you they wouldn’t want anything.”

“Oh shut up. We’re at least getting your family something, okay?” He grinned.

“Okay babe. Whatever you say.” I grinned at his use of babe. Gah, I really did love when he called me that.

“Tiffany-ssi, Taeyeon-ssi,” the PD called out. “It’s 10:30.” Wah~! Already?

“Oh jinjja? Then let’s go. GAP is on the second floor,” he said before folding up the map. Sticking it in his backpack he then stood up and reached for my hand. “Come on.”

I gladly took it and then picked up my unfinished drink. This was my favorite part of having our relationship exposed. We could finally walk around without worrying about if people saw us. A quick kiss or just us holding on to each other like this was perfectly normal. It made me feel like it was the beginning of our relationship again, like everything was so new. I know that sounds lame, but I can’t help it! We soon hopped in the elevator and Taeyeon hit the 2nd floor button.

“Did you eat enough?”

“Huh? Oh,” I grinned. “Yeah, thank you Tae. I could have bought it you know.”

“Psht, what am I here for then,” he asked as he laughed. “What flavor is that?”

“Guess,” I said as I held out my cup to him. He took a sip.

“I have no idea, but you’re gonna have to get another one because this one’s mine.” He tried to take it away.

“Yah! You dork!” I hit his arm and he returned my drink just as the doors opened. We stepped out hand in hand.

“Okay, GAP for kids, GAP for kids,” he repeated. “Oh,” he said as he pointed. We were off.

Just like I had figured earlier, it wasn’t hard at all to guess her size. The hard part however was deciding on something to get. Who knew kids clothes were so freaking cute, because I sure as hell didn’t. Gah, I wish some of these came in real people sizes.

Eventually though we decided on a pair of bright blue skinny jeans and a cute patterned sweater. I really wanted to get the bright pink jeans, but Taeyeon said his mom might be a little iffy of letting her wear those out of the house so I gave in…this time.

We went to checkout and Taeyeon paid for it, yet again. Ugh! I thought he said we’d be gifting these together! Why aren’t we splitting the bill? He paid for his dad’s gift too! As soon as we stepped out I asked him about it. He just laughed though.

“Fine, you can pay for my mom’s gift then. Don’t spend more than me though. It’s against the rules.” I grinned.

“Oh , hush and come on.” We passed The North Face and Adidas, but I doubt she’d want anything from in there anyway. “Oh!” I stopped in front of the next shop, it was a designer handbag store. “Let’s go in here.”

“Isn’t this place expensive?” Although it wasn’t cheap, this place wasn’t as expensive as where I usually shop so…

“Ani, it’s not too bad.” I went to a row of handbags. Omo! His mom would totally love these! I heard a couple shouts outside now. Crap. The fans must have caught up to us… So far the crew has been doing a great job at keeping them away and keeping their distance. I almost forgot we were even being filmed for a couple minutes. They did tell us to just keep acing natural though…

So I continued on to the bags and began searching. Eh, green is a kind of random color… She might not like that pattern. Ah! A plain black one!

“Taeyeon! How about this?”

“What about it?” He walked toward me.

“Would your mom like it pabo.” Jeesh sometimes I worried about him.

“Oh! Yeah she should like it.”

“Should we get it for her?”

“Uh sure. How much is it?” I shrugged. They usually don’t have the prices on things like this because if you have to ask, you probably can’t afford it. “Excuse me, ma’am. Could you tell us how much this is?”

“Uhh, n-ne. Th-that bag comes to about $300.” Oh it wasn’t even bad.

“THREE, I mean,” he coughed. “Thank you.” The lady, who was probably just a little older than us walked away. “No way.”

“What, why not?” It wasn’t even that expensive, plus, I wanted to get her something nice. She was so welcoming to me the last time we met.

“It’s too expensive. Let’s just go buy-“

“Ani. Taeyeon, I want to get her this,” I said firmly. “Excuse me, ma’am. Could you wrap this up for me?”

“N-ne, of course Tiffany-ssi.” I smiled. Ah, so that’s why she was stuttering. She must know who we are.

“Fany-ah, you really don’t have to get her that.” Why was he making such a big fuss about this? It’s not like money is the issue here, so I really didn’t get it.

“I want to though. Ma’am, don’t you think Taeyeon’s mother would love that as a gift?” She looked at us nervously.

“Uh..uhm, well…I-I don’t know her, but I’m sure she’ll love it.”

“See! She said she’ll love it.”

“Whatever,” he pouted. Seriously?

The lady rang me out for the bag and we quickly left the store. I sighed in relief. We were finally done with buying presents. I felt a little better after buying this bag too. She’ll have to love it.

We didn’t talk much on the way back to the car, but I didn’t know if it was because he was mad at me, or just that we were surrounded by fans. Once we reached the car though I definitely figured out it was the first one.

His manager had called us once everyone was inside their respective vehicle instead of talking outside due to all the people that were now around us.

“Alright. Just head on to Jeonju now. We’ll be behind you in the van. Call one of us if you need anything. Remember. The cameras are always recording and we’re watching you.”

“Ne hyung,” Taeyeon said before hanging up. It was silent for the next ten or so minutes as he pulled out of the parking garage and maneuvered around town, successfully making it on to the highway.

“So…so how long should it take to get there?”

“Uhm about two and a half hours? I think?” Oh that wasn’t bad at all.

“Oh that’s not too bad,” I commented. He hummed. Ugh. “Are you mad at me?” I heard him sigh.

“I’m not mad Fany-ah,” he paused.

“Then why aren’t you saying anything?”

“You just didn’t need to buy something so expensive, she already loves you,” he laughed. “You know, she asks about you every time she calls.” What?

“Really?” He hummed. “Why didn’t you tell me?”

“I don’t know, I guess I forgot,” he laughed. “You better call her umma too, she’ll get mad if you don’t.” Oh god, I totally forgot about that.

“Jinjja?” He hummed. Wait a second…“Wh-what do I call your dad then? Mr. Kim?” He laughed.

“No~, he’ll probably ask you to call him abonim.” Uh, okay…

“We’ll I’ll address him first as Mr. Kim and see what he says.”

“Whatever you say Fany-ah,” Taeyeon said cutely as his hand came into mine. “You should take a nap.”

“Ani, I’m fine,” I lied. I was tired, but I didn’t want to miss anything. Anytime I’ve ever traveled this far it’s always been in our huge van, never in a car and especially not with Taeyeon. He grinned. Crap he totally knew it was a lie. How did he always do that? Jeesh!

“Hayeon and my other cousins are going to want to play once we get there, and I can tell you’re tired.”

“I promise I’m fi- Ah!” In one quick motion Taeyeon had reached across me completely and pulled the lever sending me descending backward. He laughed. “Taeyeon!”

“Just take a quick nap. I’ll wake you up in an hour.” I started to protest. “Here use my jacket as a blanket.” He pulled it out from the back seat. Ugh! This was getting harder to resist. I yawned. Oh no. I was done for now! “See! Go to sleep.”

“Ugh. Fine. Wake me up in an hour though.”

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

I felt warmth on my face, as a soft sound started to ring in my ears.

“Fany-ah~ wake up.” He repeated it again, but this time it was a little louder. I groaned in displeasure for I probably could have slept for another hour or ten. I stretched my arms out, but when I brought them back in one of my hands were caught. I smiled. I could definitely get used to this fool being there when I woke up.

“Have a nice nap?” I huskily hummed as I nodded my head up and down. Ahh~ everything was so warm right now. I wanted to stay here for hours. “Good.” I felt him hover over me and then place a kiss on my forehead. “Because we’re here.” Wait a minute... What? I jolted my eyes open.

“You’re joking.” He shook his head. I looked around and...we were parked… in front of a house that was probably his. “Oh my god,” I said in English. “Taeyeon! How could you not wake me up?”

“You looked so peaceful and you were tired! I didn’t want to bother you!” I quickly pulled down the mirror in the visor. Oh god.

“Ugh now I look all swollen. Taeyeon~.” He laughed. Seriously. He’s laughing?! I’m about to go in there looking like a marshmallow and he’s laughing?

“Look at me.” Ugh. I turned toward him with my angry glare. He studied my face for a second before cupping my cheeks. “You look beautiful. Now let’s get out and see my family.” Ugh! He thinks he can say a few sweet words and get away with it…

“You’re just saying that,” I said angrily.

“Aigo, is SNSD’s Tiffany fishing for compliments right now,” he asked teasingly as he grabbed my hand. “Oh my god,” he shouted causing me to jump just as he did. Omo. His manager had popped out of nowhere and knocked on his window scaring the crap out of both of us. Ugh! As if I already wasn’t having a good time right now! Taeyeon rolled down the window.

“Everything is ready to go, come on.”

“Ne!” He rolled it back up and turned off the car. “Ready?” I shook my head ‘no,’ but he only grinned. “Don’t worry.” He took his jacket from my lap and put it on quickly. Oh no! There goes my warmth…Ugh! “Fany?”

“Yeah,” I responded flatly.

“When you go in it might get a little uncomfortable at first,” he said. Oh god.

“Why~?”

“Because by the looks of it, a lot of my relatives are already here,” he said as he looked around. There were an odd amount of cars around. Oh god. “So if you get uncomfortable or something give me a signal. Okay?” That was a good idea!

“Alright! What should I do?”

“Uh,” he paused. “Ah! Just do this.” He then tapped his nose three times. “Three times. Okay?” I laughed. This seemed a little silly, but he looked so cute when he was trying to be serious.

“Alright Taeyeon.” He smiled and then took two of the bags from the backseat. He stepped out of the car.

“Grab the last bag Fany-ah.” I gulped.

I don’t know why I’m even acting like this. I’m Tiffany Hwang. They’re just people! Oh god but they’re not just any people. They’re the boy I love’s family. Omo, and I just knew the PD would ask them all kinds of questions about me. I internally groaned.

No! You will be confident and you will be yourself. Get yourself together Tiffany! I shook my head as I heard Taeyeon knock on the door. Oh my god we were already here.

“Coming,” I heard from the other side. Alright you can do this Tiff. You can do-. “My son!”

Taeyeon was immediately pulled in to a hug as a camera man slipped past us and into their house.

“Umma! How are you? Where is everyone else?” He’s right I didn’t see anyone around.

“Your father is in the living room with your aunts and uncles and Hayeon is in her room with your cousins. Oh come inside, everyone come inside,” she cheered. I stepped inside and slipped my boots off. “Tiffany dear, how are you?” I froze. Oh no. I slowly turned around to face the woman.

“I’m great eomonim,” I smiled. “Ha-have you eaten?”

“Ani, we were getting ready to,” she smiled back. Omo. “You can still call me umma if you’d like,” she said as she put her hand over mine. Oh !

“Oh, ne u-umma. I forgot,” I laughed. “I’m sorry.” Good job Tiff, two minutes in and you’re already screwing up!

“Oh. Taeyeon-ah, when did you get here?” I turned to the deep voice that had just entered. Oh god his dad.

“Appa! Is everything going well?” I watched the two of them sort of hug.

“Yep. All is well. Oh and who is this?” Omo.

“Oh! Appa I’d like you to finally meet someone.” He came to me and took the bag I had been clutching on to out of my arms and set it down. Oh god. “Appa this is my girlfriend Tiffany Hwang, Tiffany, this is my father!” I immediately bowed ninety degrees.

“It’s nice to finally meet you sir. Taeyeon has told me so much about you.”

“It’s nice to meet you too, but Taeyeon has told me nothing about you.” Oh god. “I’ve heard a lot about you two on the news though. Who knew who my son was dating would be so news worthy.”

“That’s what I’ve been saying appa,” Taeyeon chimed in causing the older man to laugh. Wait so he wasn’t mad?

“You’re even prettier in person.” I bowed and thanked him. “I heard you were the one to chase my boy too. Are you sure it wasn’t the other way around?” Uhh.

“Appa~!”

“I’m just asking Taeyeon-ah. You even confessed first?” Man he had really been doing his homework though... I took a deep breath.

“Ne sir. I did.”

“Wow. Taeyeon, you better keep her.” What?

“What,” Taeyeon asked the same thing. Was he really like, giving us his approval right now?

“You’re not going to find another girl that looks like that that would want to be with you,” he laughed. Omo, I started to laugh along though. So this is where he got his dorkiness from…

“I totally could!” Excuse me?

“Yah!” Oh god I couldn’t stop myself in time either.

I just yelled at their son in front of them. Before I could apologize though, Taeyeon was being smacked on the back of the head. Oh my god.

“Umma!”

“Don’t you ever say that again. Taeyeon introduce her to everyone and I’ll go get your cousins.”

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Within the next ten or so minutes I had introduced her to everyone, she even met Hyoyeon’s parents. I told her not to bring him up though, for it was probably still a sore subject to talk about.

My cousins were especially fond of her though. Even though I don’t think they said more than two words, they stared at her almost the whole time, especially the boys. It made me feel proud and a little like laughing. Their expressions were priceless.

She did seem like she had calmed down a little after meeting everyone thankfully. Like I told her, my family was really laid back. They weren’t the kind to go crazy over little things she may or may not have done right. I’m sure they would cut her slack anyway since she didn’t even set foot in Korea until she was a teenager.

“Oh my god Taeyeon.” Oh no, I quickly looked to the girl beside me. “Is this you?” I looked to see her pointing at a very, very old picture of me when I was probably around three? Maybe four? I was staring straight in to the camera with a goofy look on my face though. Gah, I was such a weird child. I laughed.

“Yeah, I don’t know why they keep it framed like that though,” I said.

“Because you’re adorable,” she exclaimed as she picked up the frame. “Oh my god Taeyeon, this is seriously the cutest picture of you I’ve ever seen.” I laughed.

“Yah~ what about now?”

“Ani, you were totally cuter back then,” she laughed. “Umma,” she called for my mom. I smiled at the sound of that. “I need a copy of this.” My mom started laughing too.

“I’ll make sure to send you one!” I looked back at Tiffany who was now taking a picture of the picture.

“Yah! What are you doing?”

“I,” she paused. “Am making that my phone’s background. See,” she held up her phone.

“Fany~! Now people will see it!”

“Good, they’ll see how cute you were. Ahh~,” she voiced again. “You are so precious Taetae.” I grinned. Although I did love hearing her compliment me, I didn’t want my embarrassing baby photo seen by everyone. If it was just her it would be fine, but I knew it wouldn’t be.

 Oh god.

I totally forgot about the cameras that were here. I gulped and looked at the one that was now zooming in on all the embarrassing pictures my mom had framed. Omo, I’m done for!

“Tiffany-ah,” I heard my mom call. We both looked in her direction. “If you like that, here is one of our old photo albums, I’m sure there are some good ones in here too,” she smiled. Oh no. No no no no!

“Jinjja? Wah~!” She quickly went to the table. I tried to stop her, but I lost, like usual.

The next couple of minutes we sat together and looked through the book. It was fun to see all these past memories that I had completely forgotten about. I actually don’t remember a lot of things from my childhood unfortunately, but I am really glad that my parent’s captured all these photos of me while I was little.

“Ah Taeyeon, why is your expression like that?” She was laughing as she pointed to a picture. I did look pretty silly.

“I really don’t know,” I laughed as I flipped the page. Oh no, this one wasn’t any better…

“Omo, Taeyeon you made those faces when you were little too?” She was clapping as she laughed now too. Ugh, she really enjoyed torturing me!

I noticed the PD talking to my mom out of the corner of my eye. Uh oh, here we go. I knew this was coming. Within the next few minutes my mom sat down beside me on the sofa. I held my breath.

“So Taeyeon, how long have the two of you been together?” I exhaled. I knew it. The interrogation has begun. I laughed.

“Uhm a little over a year and two months,” I questioned. “Right Fany-ah?” She hummed. “Do you have any other questions umma,” I spoke up. “I know what this is.” She started laughing.

“Arasso, you caught me.” Everyone in the room started laughing.

“Does anyone have anything to ask?”

“What part of America are you from,” my uncle spoke up. That was random…

“Oh, I’m from California.”

“Ah, I was just over there for work,” he explained. Ah, well that makes sense then I guess.

“Oh can you speak English then?”

“Of course,” he replied. They then went off in a little English tangent that was so cool. I could listen to Tiffany speak English for days. My uncle didn’t know as much as she did though which was pretty funny to listen to the conversation kind of run dead because he couldn’t keep it up. She even impressed them! Wah~!

Once they were done though my aunt asked a question that caught me way off guard. I coughed.

“What did she say? I couldn’t hear her.” Oh god now I have to repeat it.

“She wants to know when you started to like me.” I watched as she immediately covered and looked away. Everyone started laughing.

“Aniyo! I’m curious too Fany-ah,” I said as I grabbed her hand. I think I knew, but I wasn’t totally sure. ”When?”

“Ah, do I really have to answer this?” She looked at me like she was asking for help, but I only nodded. “Ugh, fine… I think it was after Hello Baby,” she said toward my aunt. “TYS guested on the show that my group was doing and he was really nice and sweet to me.” Ah, so it was then. I knew it! I then remembered a very important fact from that day.

“And then she asked for my phone number,” I added proudly.

“Yah! That was only to help with the baby!” I laughed. “Taeyeon said that he would help me out with the baby that we had to take care of on the show because I was doing such a bad job on my own and he did so great in the few hours he was there. Jeesh Taeyeon, don’t give them the wrong ideas about me!” Everyone laughed.

“I know, I know.” I grinned. “I’ll never forget that though. I think I had a heart attack that day.” She gave me an unbelieving look. “What Fany? The prettiest girl in the world was asking for my number,” I laughed. “It was scary. You were scary!” Oh god. I said that aloud!

“Me?” I hummed. “How?”

“You were intimidating Tiffany,” I laughed. “Not only were you the prettiest girl I’ve ever seen, you were SNSD! The nation’s biggest girl group. Oh goodness. I remember how nervous I was around you all the time… How did you even like me? I was such a dork!”

I remembered back to all the stupid little texts I sent her before we started dating. When I was trying to get the Tiffany Hwang to like me! The stupid jokes and the awkward compliments, gah, I was so lame! She started laughing.

“You think you’ve changed?” Wha- The room erupted in laughter.

“Yah! I have to!”

“Uhhuh, whatever you say Tae. You’re still the same dork that I fell for a year ago.” I grinned as wide as I could. The first chance I got I would be giving her the biggest kiss I could. She was perfect, and she seemed to be charming the pants off of everyone here too, which made me happy. That was my Tiffany though, she has the ability to capture people’s hearts and quickly too. I mean I’m a prime example!

We answered a few more questions until Hayeon came over to sit on my lap. I hadn’t got to see much of her today yet since the rest of my family was also here.

“What’s up Hayeonie?” She moved to my ear and started to whisper.

“Oppa who are those bags in the hall for?” Omo! I had totally forgotten the presents!

“Fany-ah! The presents.” Her eyes widened just as mine did. “Umma, appa, I’ll be right back!”

I couldn’t believe Taeyeon ran off and left me here alone with all of his family. Don’t get me wrong, they were all nice and very welcoming, but… well…They just kept staring at me. I knew I was like the shiney new toy in the room or something but still!

“Yah, Seungyeon-ah. If you want to ask something just do it,” Taeyeon shot at the teenage boy that was previously staring at me as he walked back in. He looked away. “Don’t just stare pabo.”

“Taeyeon,” I started. While he was one of the prime offenders, there was no need to yell at the kid jeesh. I took one of the bags from his hand and smiled at him after he kissed the top of my head.

“Uhm, i-is anyone else in SNSD dating?” I was taken back a little. I didn’t expect him to actually ask me anything. I laughed though.

“Aniyo. They aren’t.” Yet…

“Ah, who is your favorite,” Taeyeon laughed. He looked away again.

“Uhh Je-Jessica-ssi,” he said shyly. I smiled. This was so cute. I aww’d. I saw his cheeks reddening and-

“Oppa! I want my present.”

“Kim Hayeon,” his mother shouted. “Be respectful.” Hayeon bowed her head and apologized quickly.

“Ani, it’s fine Hayeon. Here,” he said as he handed her one of the bags. “Tiffany and I picked it out together.” I smiled at her. Wah! I really hope she liked it.

“Ah so it’s from Tiffany unnie too?” She looked at me and I nodded. “Wah! Thank you!” She quickly pulled out the sweater. “Oooh. Umma look!”

“Ne, Hayeon it’s very pretty. What do you say?” She quickly thanked us and began pulling out the pants as Taeyeon handed over his father’s gift. I was surprised, yet thankful when it turned out that he liked it. Ah~ what a relief.

“Now Umma.” Taeyeon took the bag from my hand. Omo. This was it! I really, really hoped she liked it! “Fany-ah picked this one out by herself,” he said as he handed it over.

“Aniyo, umma,” I added. “Taeyeon helped me decide.” Well kinda… I watched her stir through the tissue paper and finally pull out the bag from earlier. She studied it for a few seconds. Oh god, she wasn’t saying anything! I grabbed Taeyeon’s hand and squeezed.

“Uhh umma what do you think?” I could hear Taeyeon’s voice become a little shaky too. Oh god she totally hated-

“It’s beautiful,” she announced as she turned her head toward us.

“Jinjja,” I asked quickly. “You really like it?” She nodded.

“It’s wonderful Tiffany thank you,” she smiled at me. Omo! She liked it! She actually- “I don’t think you should have spent this much on me though,” she added. “Aren’t these expensive?” I smiled.

“Aniyo, umma. Don’t worry about it,” I paused. “I wanted to get you something to say thank you for being so warm and welcoming to me the first time we met… Even though we kind of sprung our relationship on you that night and everything,” I added as Taeyeon and I started to laugh.

“It’s my pleasure Tiffany-ah. I was just happy that my son’s first girlfriend is someone as great as you,” she complimented. “You don’t need to get me fancy gifts.”

“Hold on a second,” the PD stopped us. Aish, they must have to change the film. “Tiffany-ssi is Taeyeon-ssi’s first girlfriend?” Oh god. I looked at Taeyeon who had already started turning red. “Taeyeon-ssi is this true?” I started to grin, for I already knew the answer.

“Ne,” he weakly answered as he started nodding. “First girlfriend, first kiss, first love,” he sighed. “A lot of firsts with this one.” I heard his aunts all ‘aww’ing. I grabbed his hand and smiled. If they only knew how far that lists of firsts extended though…

“Alright everyone! It’s time to eat,” Taeyeon’s dad exclaimed as he came back in the room. What the hell, I didn’t even see him leave. Whatever, I was thankful to get out of that conversation. Taeyeon stood up and pulled me up along with him.

The rest of the night progressed rather smoothly I’d say. The food was delicious, even though it was a little embarrassing to eat since Taeyeon kept insisting on feeding me things. I did enjoy it, a lot… I just didn’t want to over step any boundaries in his home with both of his parents right there.

I did get the chance to talk more to his aunts and uncles though which was really interesting. I didn’t know what it was but his family gave off an attractive feeling, if that made sense. It was always so fun and lively! It made me want to come back one day and just keep talking to them!

What was really interesting to watch though was Taeyeon with his cousins. The children sat at a different table than us but Taeyeon spent a good portion of time over with them at first. Assisting them in setting the table or even dishing out food to their plates, it was really cute to watch.

Ah, no wonder he was always so caring and thoughtful with me, he’d been doing the same thing at home for years before me! Wait a minute…

So does that mean he would do it for anyone? Omo. It wasn’t just me? Oh god why am I just thinking about this now?!

“That wasn’t bad was it?” Taeyeon had just walked back in to their living room where I was seated.

“A-aniyo. Were they the last ones?” He hummed.

“It’s just us now.” He scooted closer and wrapped his arm around me. Mmm this was-

“And me!” A tiny figure came hurling toward the sofa where we were sitting. She jumped and landed almost right on Taeyeon too, oh my goodness. “Unnie are you sleeping here tonight?” That was a good question… I looked at Taeyeon who shrugged. Ugh I should have known he wouldn’t have known.

“Oppa,” I called out for my manager.

“Uh, ne Tiffany-ssi?”

“Where am I sleeping tonight?”

“Oh, you are staying here.” Wait what?

“What, seriously?”

“Umma!” Taeyeon’s mom just came back in the room. “Is Fany sleeping here tonight?”

“Ne,” she replied quickly. Oh my god. “Everyone is.” What?

“Where is everyone sleeping?”

“Well, Tiffany will take your room and you can sleep with Hayeon tonight. The others here will have to sleep on the floor here,” she motioned toward the ground. “I’m sorry.”

“Aniyo, it’s okay,” the PD said. “We’re just happy you’re letting us stay, especially since we have to leave at noon tomorrow.” What?

“Why,” I asked loudly. “I thought we were staying later?”

“Aniyo Tiffany-ssi. Jiho-ssi called earlier and said we needed to be back earlier for a flight to Japan.” Ugh, I frowned. This ! Not only would I get to spend less time with Taeyeon’s family, I would be spending less time with Taeyeon.

“Alright,” I sighed. “I’m sorry Tae, I thought we’d get to spend more time here.”

“Don’t be baby, we still have until noon tomorrow.” He grabbed my hand. “Are you tired?” I shook my head, even though I was pretty tired. Hell I was always tired though. I think it’s become one of my personality traits. “Aye, don’t lie.” I laughed.

“How do you always know?”

“I know you Fany-ah, I can always tell,” he laughed. “Here,” he patted his shoulder. “Go to sleep.”

“Tae~, I’ll just go to your room.” Omo! His room. “Taeyeon! I haven’t got to see your room yet!” I quickly stood up. “Show me, show me!”

“Ugh,” he groaned. He did hesitate at first but eventually he showed me. Along with a cameraman, the two of us entered his room. Everything looked pretty normal though. There wasn’t anything too embarassing, omo, except for that!

“Taeyeon! Why do you have this up here?” I pointed to the poster of SNSD from our debut. Holy crap that was so long ago! “Ah! We all look like babies!” He laughed.

“I told you I was your fan even before I met you, I have BoA noona too, see,” he pointed across the room.

“This definitely qualifies you as some sort of stalker right,” I teased.

“Yah~ I just thought you were cute,” he laughed “And now you think I’m cute!” I grinned.

“You’re too much.”

“You love me.” I smiled again.

“I know. I’m sorry I’m sleepy though. I even napped today,” I pouted. I did feel bad. I wish I could stay out there longer, but I was so full and so warm that I was bound to start drifting off soon. It was almost around 10:30PM though, so it wasn’t that early anyway.

“Ani,” he said as he wrapped his arms around me. “My parents will be going to sleep here soon anyway. They just have to get a few more blankets out for these guys.“ He motioned toward the cameraman, that I had totally forgot was there by the way.

“Want me to help?”

“Ani, ani, ani. I’ll go help. You sleep.” He kissed my forehead. “I’ll come wake you up in the morning okay?”

“Fine, goodnight Taetae.” I squeezed my arms around him even tighter.

“Goodnight Fany-ah.” Just like that he left and the cameraman left. I was alone in his room. Omo! I was alone in his room. I started exploring further, but my eyes fell back on my poster. Aish, he really was a big fan of ours, well mine, before we met. I laughed. It was so funny how things all worked out like they did.
