Chapter Sixty-One : It's Over, So Wake Up.
Luhan's eyes darted to the girl on the ground beside him and he couldn't help but let a tear run down his cheek.
Luhan hissed before he dodged the attack of the extra demons coming out from the Underworld gate. There has to be a key in here somewhere, there has too. "Don't you ing touch her!" Luhan roared before he used his mind to split the demon up into two before the demon could even reach Hae Jung. She was too weak from the poison in her body because one demon had got to her and bit her by her leg as well as a few parts of her body. She even got hit at the side of her head, which caused the ear piece in her ear to get crushed. She was slowly healing and with her state like this, it was almost impossible for her to fight. The best she could do was trying to kill the few demons with her chants softly but even with that, it didn't exactly stop all the demons that were coming out from the gate. "I need help! Someone! ANYONE!" Luhan shouted as he tried killing as many demons as he could but there were too many.
He rushed towards Hae Jung's side after kicking away the demon that came near her. He was panting as he raised his arms wide in front of Hae Jung, being her shield. "L-Luhan," she breathed out as she was on the edge of breaking apart. She has too many injuries in her body that was slowly killing her but she tried her best to survive. "Stop talking!" Luhan shouted as he didn't want her to talk. It was bad enough he couldn't get to her in time and now she was suffering too much. Way too much for him. The amount of demons down here, at this rate of his killing and the energy he has left, he'll never get out of here alive.
"L-Leave. There's no way you can beat them." She whispered softly that it was barely audible but Luhan could hear them clearly. Luhan had created a forcefield over him and Hae Jung to protect them but slowly the demons tried to break it down. "W-Where are the rest?!" Luhan shouted and soon enough, Himchan came with Yongguk as they immediately cleared all the demons after they killed off the Minotaur they followed. Himchan gave a boost to Yongguk and with a blink of an eye, the gate to the Underworld shut tight with the key that Youngjae had formed. It took a while for Youngjae to shape a key that matched the gate but with his skills and endless trainings, it paid off. Within seconds, the door disappeared and the demons were nowhere to be found anymore.
"We can't explain much! All of us are struggling up there!" Himchan hissed before he disappeared with Yongguk again now that Luhan was alone with Hae Jung in the floor underground. Luhan gulped before he turned around to look at Hae Jung on the ground with her hands clutching onto her stomach. He got down onto the ground as he pried her hands away only to see she got stabs in the stomach by that particular demon who had sharp claws that managed to get to her when he was busy with another demon. He hissed before he attempted to heal her wounds , he wasn't good at it but he needed to try. Before he could even try, she wouldn't let him when she pushed his hands away gently. "D-Don't," she grunted before she swallowed hard. "You need your powers, t-to fight up there with them." her voice was getting softer and softer by the second, Luhan knew he couldn't let her stay like this for long. He had to make a choice to either stay here to heal her or get back up there to help the other members with the incoming vampires now that nothing else should appear in this room.
There was just so many of them and with just eighteen of them, it was getting tough. Although the vampires that were supposingly against them were actually a little on their side, that doesn't mean that when the monsters are killed off, they will remain on their side. The vampires would then attack them again. "If I don't do this, you'll die!" He shouted before he attempted to heal her wounds again but she pushed him off until he stood up on his two feet. "I don't think I can go on anymore, Luhan." she breathed out as she felt the immense pain in her stomach. Whatever that stabbed must've been one hell of a monster that in seconds she got stabbed so many times it was ridiculous. Her legs were failing her as well as her vision. She didn't know just how long she could handle this pain but she would love if she could just fall into a deep sleep and not wake up anymore.
But the only reason why she's still holding on for so long is for Luhan. She wants to see him as long as she could before she knew she wouldn't make it, this.. was nearing the end for her. "Sorry to break your little parade, but I think your time is up." A voice spoke up in the room and Luhan's eyes widened before he immediately turned around only to see the face of Zenon in front of him. Zenon had disappeared suddenly without a trace and Alaric couldn't sense where he was. "No." Luhan breathed out as he clenched his fists. "Y-You." Luhan pointed at Zenon before Zenon could only chuckle. "Come and kill me, I dare you." Zenon whispered softly before Luhan's breathing began to pick up the pace. "Don't ing dare me."
"I'd like to just see you try, not that you can. Besides, your girlfriend is dying because you're not strong enough." Luhan's fist clenched so hard, his nails dug into his skin before every ounce of his body was heating up with anger. No one could say that about him apart from himself and Hae Jung. No one. "If I kill you, it would go against the treaty ru-"
"During wars like these, there are no rules. Therefore, come and give me your best shot. Plus, one of your comrades died." Zenon smirked when Luhan dashed forward only to pounce on Zenon. Zenon kicked Luhan off until Luhan's back came in contact with the brick wall as he fell onto the ground. He got back up before Luhan used his mindpowers to create a forcefield around Hae Jung before Zenon could get to her. "I'm here!" Luhan shouted before he swiftly dodged Zenon's attack as he kneed Zenon in the stomach. Zenon grunted before he slyly stabbed Luhan in the arm with a quicksilver knife. Luhan was kicked away from Hae Jung as he rolled on the ground. Luhan pulled the knife out before he aimed and threw it at Zenon's leg, causing the older one to fall onto the ground before he could even do anything to the girl lying on the ground.
"Let's put our powers aside, shall we?" Zenon said as he pulled out the knife from his leg to grip onto the knife before he released it to let it fall onto the ground. "Just hand in hand." Zenon smirked when Luhan gave a nod. He just wanted to get this done and over with. Without sparing another second, Zenon had made the first move to come towards Luhan. Every single kick or punch Zenon had tried to land on Luhan would be dodged. "You're not bad." Zenon breathed out when the two were standing away from one another after many kicks and attempts to stab one another. Luhan didn't have any weapons on him other than the antidotes because he gave the quicksilver poison injection needles to Himchan and Kai but he knows when is the right time to strike his last attack on Zenon. Luhan growled before Zenon used his powers to grab Luhan by the neck when Luhan was out of breath. Zenon raised him up in the air with his grip around Luhan's neck with force as his grip tightened.
Luhan's eyes squinted as he couldn't breathe but moreover, he felt like his heart was being compressed slowly and he knew if he didn't anything, he would die. "Y-You.. said no powers." Luhan grunted as he couldn't exactly breathe in but Zenon only smirked in content. "I lied." Zenon smiled when he picked up the knife to come closer towards Luhan as he had one hand to grip onto Luhan's neck with force while the other hand lifted up to stab Luhan's heart. Luhan shut his eyes tight only to open them back instantly when he heard a girl's grunt in front of him. His eyes widened when Hae Jung's face was millimeters away from his and that's when he come to realize, she had gotten in the way before Zenon could kill him. Her eyes were wide from the impact on her back and her eyes couldn't blink. Her lips parted but no words would come out yet.
Luhan felt like there was a lump in his throat, preventing him from speaking as he was still under Zenon's grip. "N-NO!" Luhan shouted with all his breath when Hae Jung was still standing weakly in front of Luhan. "Luhan, I lo-love-" Her sentence to say those three words to Luhan couldn't be completed when she fell onto the ground after Zenon kicked her aside. Luhan's eyes darted to the girl on the ground beside him and he couldn't help but let a tear run down his cheek. Her face had cuts on her cheeks and her eyes were closed like she's in a deep sleep. Her body wasn't moving and there was no indication she was breathing. Even though Luhan couldn't breathe, his lips parted as well as the incoming tears formed in his eyes.
"That girl got what she deserved. After so long." Zenon smirked before he controlled the grip around Luhan's neck as he walked to reach for the knife on Hae Jung's back. He pulled out the knife and he stood up only to widen his eyes when Luhan's eyes weren't red anymore. They were turning into a slight shade of grey.
"W-Wha-?" Zenon couldn't even finish what he wanted to say when Luhan had break free from Zenon's grip with great force until Zenon flew across the room. Light emitted from Luhan's body before his eyes rolled back just a little but soon he locked his gaze with Zenon. "I told you, not to touch her." Luhan said in a low and dangerous voice and Zenon scoffed before he stood back up even though he was injured a little from the push. "Don't kid me. You're half dea-" Zenon's voice trailled off when Luhan spread his arms out wide and his eyes closed for a moment as Zenon tried to pull another attack. The moment Zenon moved an inch, Luhan's eyes shot open along with the bricks in the wall was being pulled out by massive force. The bricks was being pulled out so quickly it came out flying at Zenon's direction like bullets. It was impossible for anyone to just pull it out like that as for centuries, this castle stood still with these very bricks but somehow, Luhan managed to pull it out.
The anger in Luhan's body was taking over control and his eyes turned fully grey as he couldn't stop from pulling the bricks out from the walls to throw them at Zenon's way. Luhan's eyes was blinded, and he wasn't himself. Hell, it was like his soul wasn't controlling his body, his emotions were. Brick after brick, Zenon was getting hit and it was barely possible for Zenon to get up. It wasn't long until a few vampires from the Carrion Clan came down to the room they were at to assist Zenon but it was hopeless when Luhan mercilessly ripped their heads off at the same time he was using his powers to pull the bricks out from the wall to aim them at Zenon. It was like he was multitasking and he doesn't even know it. Little did he know, the bricks that he pulled out with his mind were all shaping into forms of sharp blades and it all aimed at Zenon before he could even blink.
"L-Luhan! STOP!" A voice shouted and before Luhan knew it, he was pinned down on the ground by Brian who had came just in time as he was sent here by Hae Jung's parents. "Snap out of it! STOP IT!" Brian shouted as he shook Luhan's shoulder vigrously. Just like that, Luhan's eyes changed back to red and he couldn't blink because he didn't know what got into him. "W-What?" Luhan croaked out when he looked around him. He had killed five vampires along with this close to killing Zenon in the room. The bricks on the walls were half gone as they were all pulled out by Luhan. The floor was covered with pieces of cement along with broken bricks everywhere. Over at the corner, Brandon took care of Zenon along with Onew and Jonghyun who had came along with Brian. Minho and his sister had left the moment everything was under control. They seemed to have left without a letter, a note, nothing. They just left and made it look like God was on their side guiding them until help arrived.
"What happened?" Luhan managed to ask as Brian let Luhan go. Luhan got up on his feet to look at Brian who smiled slowly. A genuine smile after such a long time. "We did it." Brian breathed out and Luhan's eyes widened. "What?"
"We did it." Brian repeated his words before Brian gave another smile to Luhan. "Everything, is falling into place. Things are fine up there now that we're all here." Brian nodded but Luhan felt a deep twist in his gut. "Something wrong?" Brian asked and it came to Luhan quickly. When Luhan turned to look at the girl lying down on the ground, he appeared by Hae Jung's side as he lifted her body up even though he was this close to just fainting but he just wants her to wake up. "HAE JUNG!" Luhan shouted and Brian came to her side. "No." Luhan breathed out as he shook her body. "NO NO NO!" He continued to shout as he tried everything he could to wake her up. Soon everyone else, s, a few trainers along with Alaric gathered on the same floor Luhan was.
Luhan remembered the anitdote injection he kept in his pocket that Hae Jung's mother gave him and he pulled the cap off before he injected it into Hae Jung's neck after fumbling with the cap for a moment. Once he injected the antidote in her, he pulled out the needle to throw it across the room. He went back to shaking her body before he stared at her face. It was pale like all color has been out of her. He slowly placed a hand on her cheek, only to finally have the time to analyze the injuries she had on her face. She had burnt marks at her temples, a few scratches on her cheeks along with a slight cut at her bottom lip. He gulped before he brushed his thumb at her bottom lip before he felt a tight grip around his heart. His gaze travelled down to her body, where the first thing he saw was the blood stain on her stomach where she was stabbed multiple times.
Her clothes, torn because of the demons that tried to kill her. His other hand sneaked up behind her back where he could feel the wound of where she was stabbed on the back by Zenon. He wanted to analyze so much more, but he couldn't. It was too much to take in. If maybe, just maybe if he would react differently when Hae Jung lied to Zenon to cover up for Luhan, maybe she wouldn't be like this.
Maybe she wouldn't suffer this much.
Maybe someone better could've taken care of her.
Maybe someone else would've protected her better than he would.
Maybe she wouldn't be dead.
After staring at her face that seemed to be a few minutes, he buried his face in the crook of her neck as he shed silent tears. His arms wrapped around her back tightly as he lifted her up into his arms with his face still buried. "Wake up." he whispered in between his silent sobs but she wouldn't wake up.
"Wake up please." He whispered again but he didn't lift his head up to face anyone. If he didn't believe the lie Zenon had pulled on him, she would be here with him, alive. "We need to leave now." Alaric voiced out softly before everyone moved out of the castle to head back to the castle in Darion Town. Luhan weakly lifted her up in his arms before he followed everyone to leave the castle. It won't be long until the other members in the Carrion clan from different towns would come so it's best they leave now. The treaty could be done later but for now, it was important for all of them to head back to the castle.
