Breaking News: SM Entertainment's SeulHyuck Couple call it Quits.

NCT 127’s Lee Haechan and Red Velvet Kang Seulgi became close on the set of the Korean Reality Dating Programme, Heart Signal back in April 2020. They confirmed their relationship in July of the same year after being spotted on a date.

 

The couple overcame a 6-year and many believed their relationship would withstand the test of time. It came as a shock to fans when the couple called it quits in November 2021.

 

However, their agency, SM Entertainment, confirmed in November 2021 that the pair had parted ways on good terms although the exact reason was never revealed.

The news has become a shocker to their close friends and families. They were fine the last time they saw the two of them together. What happened?

 

The ladies had decided to crash Seulgi’s house after hearing the news. They all thought that Seulgi might need some company. Cause let’s be honest, it’s painful, it’s exhausting and it’s so incredibly difficult.

 

 

Going through heartbreak can be absolutely miserable. You hate the person but you still love the person. And then you end up hating yourself for loving them, which eventually leads to you hating them even more for making you still love them. It’s draining, really.

 

 

But what happens when the breakup is quiet? What happens when there’s no big, dramatic event that ruins the relationship? What happens when you end things on good terms?

 

 

Sometimes there’s no resentment. And for Seulgi and Haechan’s breakup, no one fights. They don’t fight with each other or fight for each other. There’s no screaming, insulting, or drunken breakdowns in the middle of the night.

 

 

There are no angry texts, letters, or sad tweeting of song lyrics. Their breakup occurs to be not only mutual but it had dignity on both sides. No one loses respect for the other person throughout the experience. The heartbroken party is not sobbing on their ex’s door at 3 in the morning begging for them back.

 

 

Their friends were not involved. In fact, they were shocked when they found out about the breakup because they were under the safe assumption that nothing was ever wrong. And that’s the thing.. There wasn’t anything that really went wrong.

 

 

For SeulHyuck breakup, there are hurt feelings but they are completely overshadowed by the love that they once had for each other. There is pain but it is outweighed by all of the wonderful memories that they had together.

“It’s hard to explain Eonnie.. I don’t blame him because I agreed to it when we talk about the breakup.” Answered Seulgi vaguely.

 

 

“So Hyuck was the one who asked for it?” asked Youngwon again.

 

 

“We agreed on it together.”

 

 

“No no.. I’m sure someone had initiated it.”

 

 

“It was you. Am I right???” asked Yunha finally speaking up after observing Seulgi for a while.

 

 

Seulgi was silent. She couldn’t find the words to answer the question.

 

 

“You are seeing someone else right?” added Youngjae.

 

 

“Wait wait.. let her explain. We cannot just assume-"

 

 

“Aniyo Eonnie. I saw her talking to Kyuhyun oppa at my wedding the other day, in private.”

 

 

“Is this true Seulgi?”

“Ani, Kyuhyun oppa is just an oppa that i'm close with. Hyuck knows about him too. Soljigi yeoreobun, there really isn’t a definite reason for our breakup. Let’s just say we just wanted space to grow.. Individually.”

 

 

“So Haechannie initiated it and you agreed to it?”

 

 

“Yes.”

 

 

“Jinjja Na hal mari eobda..” answered Yunha.

 

 

 

This kind of breakup is so tough because the lingering feelings don’t vanish right away and they may not ever go away completely. No one did anything catastrophic for it to end. There was no cheating or cruel words said.

 

 

It ended not with a bang but with a whisper.

 

 

“Well Seulgi, I believe that these kinds of breakups can be the hardest to get over because the door is never closed. Everything is still unresolved so there’s no way to really end your chapter forever.”

 

 

“You didn’t just stop having feelings for each other and you didn’t stop being in love with each other. Someone just had a lot of doubt and it ended. It hurt but someone felt that it was a choice that had to be made. However, that doesn’t mean that it was easy for either of you. Right?” said Youngjae.

 

 

“Ya half true.” answered Seulgi short.

 

 

Seulgi and Haechan for sure, still wanted each other in their lives. Just for whatever reason, they didn’t want to be romantically involved anymore. It seems simple enough to try and keep a friendship but then there’s the seeing them with other people and watching someone else’s arms around them. Even though they have sworn to this friendship that they will be okay with whatever happens, it is so tough to watch the person you once loved fall in love with somebody else.

 

 

Breaking up on good terms is rough because both of them really care about each other but they’re not together anymore. There’s this inevitable magnetic pull to each other, which includes still wondering how their family is doing and still being concerned about their overall wellbeing.

 

 

Everybody gets hurt in a breakup whether you’re the one breaking a heart or the person getting heartbroken. And the process of a heart breaking continues long after the breakup. Being involved in each other’s lives as friends can contribute to it.

 

 

“Yah it’s nearly impossible for you to look at Jaehyunnie platonically without thinking of all of your extremely intimate moments or secrets that you have only shared with him before. What more now with Lee Haechan, the one you shared a pillow sleeping almost every day. The one you had a baby with. So what actually Happened?

 

 

It was late August to early September when Seulgi and Haechan started having the thoughts of breaking up. But they kept it from each other and went ahead to celebrate their first year anniversary. And it was displayed to the public. They did a photoshoot together and etc.

 

 

It was only after WooJae’s wedding when things got a little serious. After the wedding, Haechan obviously drunk was brought back home to Seulgi’s apartment.

 

 

The morning of the after party, Seulgi and Haechan were in bed after their morning cuddle. They just stared at each other without speaking to each other for a while. They love each other so much but something just felt off.

 

 

“Baby..” called Haechannie.

 

 

“Mmm??” Seulgi responded while adjusting the ruffles of Haechan’s hair.

 

 

“Heeojija(Let’s breakup)..” muttered Haechan short.

 

 

Seulgi just stared at Haechan not sure if she was choking after hearing it or she had expected it.

 

“Are you sure?” answered Seulgi.

 

 

“Aren’t you going to ask me why I said that?” asked Haechan.

 

 

“Will it change your decision if I asked?”

 

 

“I don’t know. But I feel like we should talk about it.” Said Haechan.

 

 

*Sighs*

 

 

“Okay.. Let’s talk about it.” Answered Seulgi now sitting up making Haechan does the same as well.

 

 

“I’ve been thinking about it for a while now and I don’t know if you feel the same way as I do. Don’t get me wrong baby. I love you and I still do. Very much. But I just feel like we should give each other space. I know we’ve given each other plenty of it, but I just feel like we need to let go of each other in order for us to grow individually.” Explained Haechan.

 

 

“I know. I get what you mean. I feel it too.”

 

"Let me ask you this.. Do you see a future with me?" Asked Seulgi starting to sob.

 

“Yes.."

 

"Seulgi, we’ve been together for about a year and a half now. And the only safe relationship I have with a feminine is with you. Like my entire understanding of what feminine is in relation to me is with you.”

 

 

“You have been my everything…”

 

 

“In order for us to meet each other in future again, we have to let go of each other and that’s the entire reason why we’re choosing this now..  but I want you to know that I have loved having you as my everything.” Haechan started tearing after saying all that was in his chest.

 

“Hyuck please don’t cry or feel bad about it.. I understand why we're doing this. I love you and you love me.. We’re happy and we’re also surrounded by our friends and families. We’re gonna fly into the world and we’re still gonna hang out with each other.” Said Seulgi cupping Haechan’s face.

 

 

It’s amazing how the grief and the disbelief comes in waves. Like Seulgi thinks she’s fine and she had accepted it. She’s good and cool with everything but she is making a decision in a place of love for herself and for Haechan.

 

 

But, there’s these like… her physical body hasn’t caught up yet and so there’s this withdrawal process almost like needing to wean herself off of this source of energy that has been so comforting and present in her life for the past year of their relationship.

 

The two of them mutually agreed to the breakup and hug it out for the last time. With all due respect, let’s let things get better with time. At least, they can still remain as friends and colleagues.

“Yah! It’s like pretending that the beautiful masterpiece just didn’t exist between the two of you and now all you have is this dinky friendship that doesn’t do your connection a shred of justice. You two were so much more than that at one point. How does it go from a work of art to a pile of ash?” nagged Johnny after practice.

 

 

“There still an undeniable attraction between the two of you and for that matter there’s still an indisputable amount of ual chemistry there. It’s hard to pretend that it doesn’t exist at all. That’s what this kind of break up consists of, a lot of pretending. Pretending to be okay. Illuwa Haechannie. You need a hug.” Said Doyoung hugging the maknae.

 

 

“Aniya Hyung havent you heard of a such thing as ending on good terms? Is it that wrong? or is it just dangerous? Everyone says that breaking up in a subtle, friendly way is the best possible scenario because you still get to have that person in your life.” said Haechan slightly frustrated by the members not understanding his breakup decision.

 

"Yes Hyuck but at same time.. That makes it harder for you to get over the person being that, its their presence that you keep around. That will be a problem. Like right now. Look at you." said Yuta.

 

“Right when you think you’ve totally forgotten about them, their name lights up on the screen of your phone. The name that used to make you flutter with joy is now making you feel sick to your stomach and you go back on the merry-go-round of feelings all over again.” Said Jaehyun answering the very so relatable question of Haechan’s.

 

 

“Well Chan ah, when you’re together, talking, reminiscing about the great times that you’ve had together in the past and essentially seeing everything that you loved about them, it doesn’t help the process of moving on. These conversations help remind you of why you fell in love with them in the first place.” Said Taeil.

 

 

“I truly believe that even though it’s harder to try and remain friends, it’s entirely worth it. Cutting each other out of your lives may be the easy way out but it is also a complete waste of a really powerful connection. You were in love with this person, which means you enjoyed their personality a lot. They were able to make you laugh and smile. You don’t have to throw that all away.”

 

 

“So while it is extremely difficult to keep each other around, I encourage you to do so. It really is the mature thing to do. You owe it to the time you spent together to salvage a friendship out of the relationship. A broken heart doesn’t always have to mean a broken bond. Its okay. Slowly but surely.
