14 | A promise

After having her water as she calms down, Seohyun looked into her mother's eyes and Yoona before she shares what really happened.

"I was just bringing my clothes when I thought of checking the outside through the balcony. But as I opened it, just a couple of seconds later, the wind blows too hard, it's like taking me that I hastily returned inside. I did my best to close it but the wind is really just too strong that I keep stepping backward then I saw two wings - dark. Flew off from the roof. That's when I scream because I thought of my father and the way he died."

"So you didn't see the angel's face?" asked Mrs. Seo to make sure of it.

"Yes. I didn't. It was quick Omma but I really saw the angel. Why is this happening? What did I do?" Seohyun questioned, as she felt really in danger earlier yet she can't understand. "It's like the same thing happened to Appa... I mean, there was an angel when we crashed Omma... And I'm pretty sure it was the reason why he didn't make it."

Mrs. Seo could totally understand how her daughter feels like. She took her hand and hold it gently. "What happened to your father was indeed an angel's doing." She says softly, as she plans to tell her right there.

"You-you believe that too. I'm glad we're the same Omma. But why is this happening? Did Appa have something wrong? I mean out of all people? Why?" Seohyun desperately asks, holding her mother's hands back as she demands more explanation.

Mrs. Seo glances at Yoona and the latter smiled as she bowed before she left the room. She grabs the chance and opened again to explain. "Seohyun, honey,  your Appa did nothing bad neither you. It was because of Omma."

"What?" Seohyun's confused.

"You see... your mother... " Mrs. Seo pause at least 10 seconds before she continued. "... Is an angel."

Seohyun goosebumps. "How... how did you... become an angel?" and she is more confused.

"I'm an angel before I met your father." Mrs. Seo continued seriously, not leaving her daughter's eyes. "But since we angels should keep who we really are, I have to do it. Your father however knows about me being an angel and also keeps it from you so you won't be bothered. You see, there's a rule in our world, that we shouldn't fall for a human. But I did and I had a family. To protect you and your father, I runaway. I turn my back on them as it was meant to be... but it was still not safe. Dark Angels, they don't like what Angels have done to us that they want to kill my family. And that Yuri... she's after you, honey." she ended it with a gentle squeeze of her daughter's hand. "That's why I'm here... I'm here to protect you from any danger a dark angel can do to you."

"Aunt... Yuri is a dark angel?" Seohyun gasps earning a small nod from her mother.

"A dark angel is controlling her. Not entirely she's an angel." Mrs. Seo corrected softly. 

"Heol." Out of words, Seohyun couldn't look at her mother anymore as she processes everything she learned. All this time her mother had been keeping her the truth but her explanation convinced her but at the same time, she's upset. Because she had been sharing about angels to her mother but she would just make a lie. 

"I'm sorry if I keep everything to you, honey. It was just to protect you."

"Does... l-leaving me include to that?"

Mrs. Seo nodded and smile a little. "I hope you understand."

Seohyun get up and started pacing back and forth in front of her mother.

"I know it's hard to believe-"

"Does Yoona know about this?"

Mrs. Seo was taken aback and she shakes her head instantly.

"I see." Seohyun returned to her seat to the edge of the bed and stares at her mother with a small smile. "So am I an angel too? What will happen to me? If the dark angel couldn't kill me? Also, do we need to tell Yoona about this? Been sharing about angels, Omma."

"You have the blood of an angel that's why you can see Angels. And if I'm not mistaken as soon as you reach your 20s, either you can possess what an angel can do or remain as a normal human." Mrs. Seo explained. She's not certain what will happen to her daughter. What's important is for her to keep safe and continue living normally. "And only the dark angels are the bad ones, honey. The angel you saw back then save you but she couldn't save your father, Mianhe."

"That's... too much info, Omma." Seohyun had enough and doesn't have any words left in mind.

"I'll take care of Yoona, don't worry about her." Mrs. Seo flashes a reassuring smile, caressing her daughter's face.

Walking downstairs after having her fresh shower, Seohyun was surprised to see Yoona in the living room, cleaning up. "I thought you were with Omma?" 

"I changed my mind. You should have someone here." Explained Yoona as she genuinely smiled.

"Did... She told you already?" Seohyun wonders.

Nodding, Yoona approached the younger girl. "And I'm fine with it." 

"Glad to know." Seohyun smiled. "But isn't it funny? I was hating them back then for not saving my father, and rather killing him. It turned out I'm a half-angel." She chuckled softly.

"It's unbelievable for me at first but It made sense knowing the dark angels are after you. Don't worry, they can't hurt you as long as you have someone by your side." Yoona reassuringly said.

"They don't attack if there's a human next to me?"

"Absolutely."

"Omma tell you?"

Yoona nodded to confirm.

"Heol, I guess this is the reason she brought you with us. By the way, have you mentioned this to your parents? I mean, I'm pretty sure they will be concerned." Seohyun couldn't miss and ask about it. 

"Yup. I did and they are fine. As long as I help to do the chores and I should study well. Oh, they're looking forward to seeing you guys." Said Yoona as she mentally scolded herself again for lying.

"I would love to meet your parents one day." Seohyun brightly responded. Just then, a doorbell was heard outside. She hastily runs to the intercom to see who's outside. "Are they our neighbors?"

Yoona followed her and raised her eyebrows. "Probably because he's holding a pot or something."

"Oh, food for new neighbors." Seohyun smiled and pressed the button to speak. 

[Hi, I'm Im Ji Sung from next door. Would like to give you this little present to welcome you to the neighborhood.] The man outside speaks with a friendly smile on his face.

"Im Ji Sung? He sounds familiar." Seohyun mumbles.

[Huh?]

"Oh, ah thank you. I'll come to get it." Seohyun replied and was about to leave when Yoona holds her hand. "Wae?"

"I'll get it. You stay here." Explained Yoona and she didn't wait for her response as she walked out of the house. The man also looks familiar to her but she doesn't know where and when did she saw him. Either way, he looks harmless. 

Upon opening the gate for him, Yoona bowed and flashes a friendly smile. "Thank you for this kind gesture, Mr. Im." She said and took the pot from him, but their hands accidentally touched that it caused her to see his recent memory, where he talks with his son, studying in their living room. A portrait of a family of three however caught her attention but before she can have a clearer view-

"Welcome to the neighborhood." The man brought her back to reality.

"Yes, thank you." Yoona smiled back, doesn't know why but she felt comfortable with his smile.

"Don't mind giving the pot back. It's yours. I hope you guys love this neighborhood. See you around." Ji Sung said and began to leave while waving his hand while couldn't look away from the unknown girl. 

"He seems  a nice man." Yoona softly utters watching him leave until he disappeared behind the gate. She turned her attention to the pot and opened it, just to see chessy spice rice cake. She got excited and hastily returned inside. "Seohyun-ah look at this, he gave is rice cake." 

"Wow, that so sweet of him." Seohyun got the pot and ushered Yoona to come with her in the kitchen. "Looks tasty." she added as she took chopsticks and handed the pair of it to the doe-eyed. "We have a good neighbor, aren't we?" she started digging and took a bite.

"I know right? And he looks like a nice man." Yoona giggles as she copied the younger girl.

"By the way, I think he's the person Jungkook was talking about." Seohyun shares what she just remembers.

"Hmm?" Yoona just hums while enjoying the food that's new to her taste buds again.

"Im Ji Sung, he's a board member in Jungkook's family business." 

"Oh, what a coincidence to have a neighbor related to his family."

"That's what I was thinking too. And you know what? Mr. Im has a daughter named Yo."

Yoona dropped the rice cake when she heard the name. "Pardon?"

"Im Yo is her full name. According to Jungkook, this daughter passes away when she was young. And up until now, Mr. Im couldn't forget that day she left." Seohyun continued to share. "Poor him though."

'Im Yo, I'm angel Yo... no wonder I feel comfortable with him. He has a daughter the same name as me coincidentally.' Yoona thought as she once again took a bite on their food.

"Should we return this kind gesture?" Seohyun suddenly got an idea.

"How?" Yoona looked at her back.

"Since we don't have homework for tomorrow, let's make him some pasta. Just like when we first met." 

"Omo, that's a great idea." 

"I'll prepare ingredients later when we finished this." Seohyun giggles excitedly. 

Yoona couldn't say a word but she finds herself admiring the younger girl. She's always this cute but she is cuter at the moment. 'She seems to take the information about herself like It was nothing. It's a good sign. She'll probably accept me right away once she finds out I'm an angel too.'

After the long day of moving their stuff to the new house, Seohyun, Mrs. Seo, and Yoona sits down in front of the tv and is enjoying a movie with laughter and smiles on their faces. Yoona especially loves the atmosphere as she can't help and admire the Seos and the fact that they're having a bond on their first night in a new home. But the room got quiet when Mrs. Seo's phone rings and she excuse herself upstairs.

"Mr. Parker?" Yoona could tell but she still asks Seohyun.

"Yeah, he misses her." Seohyun shrugs her shoulders and looked down to the bowl of popcorn on her lap just to see it empty. "Aish, didn't realize that."

"You can just pop more of it." Yoona giggles. Her bowl still has popcorn.

"Let's just share with yours." suggests Seohyun, patting the space next to her. The doe-eyed is sitting on the single sofa on the right side.

"You will just finish this in one go." Yoona stuck her tongue out playfully. She gets up and transferred next to her.

Seohyun hit her arm. "I don't eat a lot. It was Omma who finished them." she defensively said and took a handful of popcorn from the doe-eyed.

Yoona gasps. "Really?" and she hits her back earning her laugh. She shakes her head in disbelief and just let her as she turned her attention to the tv screen. She glances at her and smiles when she looked at her back. 

"Have you wrote a lot of letters already?" Seohyun was reminded by the cards and .

"Yup." Yoona confidently replied. "I'm pretty sure she will love it."
