Mother to Mother

A few hours later
Mrs. Jung Pov
“I thought you said you were bringing us to Amber,” Mrs. Liu said looking around our living room.
“We will take you to her. But my husband and I would like to speak with you first,” I said sitting down.
“We came all the way here to see our daughter. I need to speak with her.”
“Please Mrs. Liu sit down, and be patient. I think you would really benefit from talking with us,” my husband said.
“I just found out that my daughter is engaged. I would like to see her,” she said frustrated.
“Yes she is engaged, to our daughter. So I think we would have a lot to talk about,” I told her as she finally sat down next to her husband.
“What are you saying? You are not surprised about this? Are you ok with it? I can’t imagine that this wouldn’t be a shock,” Mrs. Liu said.
“I’ll admit we haven’t known about it for long but of course we are ok with it. More than ok with it. They love each other. And Amber is an incredible person.”
“I can’t believe that you approve of this. Don’t you want your daughter to have children? Don’t you want a son-in-law that can protect and provide for her? Isn’t that what every mother wants for their daughter?” Mrs. Liu asked confused.
“First of all I think you should really listen to what your saying,” I said strongly.
“I know what I’m saying. I want to have grandchildren and that can’t be possible if they stay together.”
“Mrs. Liu you can’t really believe that they couldn’t have kids if they wanted,” my husband said.
“Well I guess anyone can adopt, but I mean the natural way. The way it was meant to be,” she said.
“Being a parent, or grandparent for that matter, isn’t about being blood related. If you choose to accept the responsibility then a child is a child. I hope that you could see that there is no difference. To answer your earlier question, of course we want our daughter to have children. If that is what she wants. And of course we want someone that will protect, provide, and most of all love her. Amber is all of those things. She is your child. You should realize that better than anyone. She is polite, thoughtful, smart, and she loves Soojung so much. I can’t see the sense in denying someone like that for my daughter. After I got over the initial surprise of them together, I only saw what was important. She treats Soojung as if she is more important than herself. She would do anything for her. And Soojung feels the same way. How often does that happen? In this huge world, how often do two people meet that are so compatible? If I looked at all that and disapproved because of gender, it would be the biggest mistake of my life. I love my daughter, my daughter loves Amber, I trust her, and so I love Amber too. That is all that matters,” I said seriously.
“This is just all so much,” Mrs. Liu whispered as a few tears escaped. “I was just going through our bills and I found the charge for the engagement ring. And the next thing I know we were on a plane over here.”
“You need to listen to me now. Mother to mother,” I said reaching across to touch her hand. “You can’t push Amber away because of this. Because if you do you might never get her back. Try to see this from her point of view. She grew up loving and obeying you. You are her parents. The people that gave her life, and to
