The Moon is Broken
What are the odds to accidentally meet someone you know in a city bustling with millions of other people? Quite small. Maybe because I keep hanging around the same parts of the city, I am starting to feel that Seoul is a lot smaller than you'd expect. In my eyes it's shrinking every year. I keep meeting same people, seeing same cars, eating same food, going to same places, taking same buses. Has my life really become so boring?
When I walked out from the gaming hall where I spent the rest of my small change and won nothing, how typical, I saw Taeyang. He was walking on the other side of the road in his flashy red jacket, how could I not notice? The way he kept looking around and pulling the cap lower on his head made him look a little suspicious, he was wearing the hood over his head too.
Interested to death, instead of calling his name I actually followed him secretly. I think he felt my presence because once in a while he kept glancing around as if checking if anyone was following him. It really triggered my interests how paranoid he was acting. Luckily I was smart enough to keep my distance and lately I always wore shirts with hoods so I could hide my face.
Taeyang finally stopped in front of some pub and slipped in. I waited for a while before crossing the road and following him inside. The place was rather old, rakish and dirty, smelled of tabacco, beer and wood. Not very cool if you ask me. I would have expected for him to go to more stylish places...
I looked around and saw Taeyang talk to some guys, Min Woo and his men to be exact. One of the guy's head was bandaged, I guess it was the one who's eye got injured. At least he didn't die. They all stood around the only pool table in whole place, Min Woo was leaning on his billiard stick and Taeyang had his arms crossed over his chest. They were deep in some kind of heated discussion but still kept their voices low.
To look less suspicious I went to the counter to buy something to drink, a beer. But not because I wanted to drink beer, I mean, it's not like you buy water in a pub so I am not an alcoholic, not yet at least. While paying I glanced at the empty booth style table near where the guys were standing. With a slight smirk on my face I grabbed my beer and a random car magazine before heading towards the table.
To my luck, I could hear perfectly what they were saying to each other. So I perked my ears and pretended to read the magazine, holy WHOA! Nice cars. Wait, is this about the cars or half women? It's like reading a women's magazine about cakes and 'how to lose weight' tips, all in one. Wait, I am supposed to eavesdrop and not think about chocolate cakes. I want to eat cake...
"Are you sure you about that?" Min Woo asked sounding disappointed.
"I wouldn't have left in the first place..." Taeyang sounded a little irritated.
"Once this is over the reward will be good."
"How many times do I have to tell you that it's useless screwing Sil Jang over, he is not that easy." Taeyang grunted. "He will crush you all."
"You made it alive..."
"Barely. It's my luck police has been running after him for past years so he doesn't have enough time to worry about me. What the hell is going through Dong Wook's head to be so careless?"
Okay, so now it's confirmed for sure. That red haired bomb boy is after Taeyang and Taeyang is Jjang for sure.
"Man, you better come back with us."
The other guys agreed.
"I rather kill myself than kiss Sil Jang's as.s. Why don't you help me instead?"
"You know how dangerous it is to play that kind of games with him."
"He won't notice, his attention is elsewhere. Why don't you do it for the shake of the old times?" Taeyang pursued.
"Dude, that's not gonna happen. Since you left Dong Wook has taken your place and we-"
"Since when did you ever respect his whiny a.ss?" Taeyang asked sarcastically. "You are not fooling me."
"Screw you..."
"You haven't even listened to what I have to offer."
"What could you?"
"The diamonds, I still have them."
The guys grew quiet.
Don't tell me this is about those stolen diamonds Sil Jang got from Africa. I thought that was just Daesung's exaggeration. I mean seriously, this is not cool anymore.
"You can't live your lives recklessly like that, think about your future. Like everyone else, you will end up on some abandoned alley with your head bleeding."
"But" Min Woo sounded hesitant. "Shouldn't you talk about this with Dong Wook?"
"You crazy, man?" some other guy commented.
"You know what he thinks of me now..."
"It's also tricky to trust the police. You know what kind of influence Sil Jang has."
"I have been doing this for years now, these people are trustworthy. Have you lost your faith in me?"
"Tsh... after you ran away like that."
"You fcker. Who is hiding?" Taeyang's voice filled with tension. "It's you who has been searching in wrong places while I have been here all along. Why do you think Sil Jang is hiding now? Even if he almost crushed me like a bug it doesn't mean I will give up like some coward. You have been hiding your puny as.ses abroad while I have been working on this case."
I peeked at the scene from behind the back rest of the bench and saw Taeyang glare at Min Woo. He looked pissed.
"Then why don't you help us try to figure out this bastar.d" Min Woo took something from inside pocket of his jacket and handed it to Taeyang. A photo.
"Are you taking me for an idiot?" Taeyang tightened his jaw. "Me to give out someone I am working with? Do I look like a traitor to you?"
"But, by giving out this guy you can take care of Sil Jang, finally. Isn't that what you have wanted all along?"
"Not like this" Taeyang threw the photo at Min Woo's face. "I'm not a sly coward."
Could a guy look and sound any cooler?
"You won't get away from us anymore. It's no use hiding."
"I am not hiding, for God's sake" Taeyang simply said. "But that doesn't mean you can force me go back."
"You should, when Sil Jang grows tired he will simply finish you off."
"Tsh" Taeyang scoffed. "He can crush me but he will never be able to get rid of me. He has been trying all these years. I have changed, I am not stupid anymore."
"Of course, the first one to go" Min Woo held the photo in front of Taeyang's face. "Would be this friend of yours."
"Just try doing it. Try getting me angry once again and I swear, I won't spare any of your lives" Taeyang threatened coldly and the guys around him actually turned pale. "I won't be careless but when it's needed, my finger won't hesitate to pull the trigger. I am, after all, the Jjang"
Taeyang's eyes glinted evilly, a proud smirk appearing on his lips. "Even though I have changed a lot and left the past behind, some things about me never changed. The worst things, you know what I mean. I dare you to get me angry. Wanna see me lose my mind, EH?"
His words made me shudder. A person couldn't get any more serious and... scary.
"You are making this hard for everyone" Min Woo sighed.
"This is simple, if you choose Sil Jang's side you become our enemy. Let me say it more clearly." A cold chuckle escaped Taeyang's lips.
"You bec
