Chapter 63

You Said Remember Me II

Deciding it’d be best to head back inside before she got soaked through she started back toward the doors. Stretching her arms on her way toward the elevator she couldn’t help but feel a small yawn leave her. Maybe she felt tired because yesterday had been such a long day and she’d barely gotten any good sleep.

When she opened the door she saw that Changmin had already awoken.

“Where’d you go? You’re wet,” he said with a small frown.

“It’s raining outside,” Nana pointed back toward the door.

“You were outside?”

“Oh…uh…yes.”

“Gosh, I want to go outside.”

“Probably soon,” Nana helped, “it’s just your shoulder that got injured. As long as your feet are ok, I bet you can start walking about soon.”

“Oh yea? I didn’t even think about that.”

She started toward him and plopped down on the chair.

“When did you wake up?”

“Just a while ago.” he locked his eyes onto her face for a long while and Nana started to feel nervous.

“W…what?”

“You look tired.”

“I guess I do, huh?”

“You could go back. I bet you want to sleep.”

“Oh no, it’s fine.”

Before Changmin refuted her the door open and a couple walked in. Nana’s eyes skimmed their face and watched them quietly talk to one another before closing the door. Once the couple turned toward her and Changmin she shot up from her feet and immediately bowed.

“Oh?” she heard his mother hum the word.

“I thought you two were stopping by the house to grab a bite first,” Changmin sounded surprised.

“Your mother was so worried she wanted to stop by,” his father explained. “Who’s your friend?”

Nana found the pair’s eyes hovering over her.

“I’m Nana, nice to meet you,” Nana introduced.

“Nana? You must be Changmin’s friend,” his mother walked toward her with a gentle smile.

Nana could feel the warmth from her flow into her own body as his mother put a hand on her arm. Nana watched her walk toward her son and start talking to him.

He had parents…parents she lacked.

Was it right to intrude upon his life?

“What? But I already have dinner ready,” Yuri mused over the phone with a frown. “No, no. It’s alright, I’ll just pack some and bring it over for you.”

She hung up the phone and glanced over toward Victoria and Donghae.

“Changmin’s parents stopped by the hospital,” Yuri explained. “I’m going to pack the food and bring it to them.”

“Change of plans, huh?” Donghae asked.

Yuri sighed. “That’s how they are, I guess. Anyway, you two go on and eat without me.”

“What about Eunhyuk?” Victoria said.

Yuri paused. She’d forgotten about him.

“Why don’t you just drop me off before heading toward the hospital?” Eunhyuk appeared by the frame of the kitchen door.

“But you didn’t eat…” Yuri began.

“I’ll grab something later,” Eunhyuk smiled. “Should we go?”

They were quiet.

“Sorry,” Yuri apologized.

“For what?”

“That you and Nana have to stay somewhere other than the house.”

“I don’t mind. Donghae’s starting to nag at me these days, it’s good if I can get away from him for a few days.”

“What’s he been nagging you about?” Yuri wondered.

Eunhyuk didn’t respond. She guessed he didn’t want to share it with her. Well, she assumed that was fine. She hadn’t been sharing much with him anyway.

Yuri parked the car along the street in front of the complex.

“Why don’t you put away your stuff and come back out?” Yuri suggested.

Eunhyuk turned to look at her surprised with the suggestion.

“You can get Nana and return back together,” Yuri added.

“Sure.”

She watched as he grabbed his bag and Nana’s bag before closing the passenger door. When he disappeared through the door Yuri turned to busy her eyes on the traffic.

Yuri had made a big deal out of nothing when Changmin had resorted to a motel with Nana. Now, when the man she supposedly had feelings for was staying at a complex with Nana for 3 days, why wasn’t she feeling heated up about it? Not upset but worry. Worried that they would be awkward. She wasn’t worried about Eunhyuk, a man, being confined in a room alone with Nana, a full grown woman. She was just worried if they’d be comfortable.

Eunhyuk and Nana would end up sleeping on the floor on mats. Perhaps beside each other or perhaps far from each other. Not a feeling of jealousy impounded her.

The car door opened and she spun around to see Eunhyuk enter the car.

Would Eunhyuk and Nana end up growing closer as Nana had with Changmin after their night in the motel?

/ / / / /

Nana busied herself with gazing out the window into the dimming sky and half eavesdropped on Changmin’s father who was speaking to who she assumed was Yuri. Shock infiltrated her when he took a step toward her with hands tucked into the pockets of his pants.

“Nana, right?” he asked.

She turned to look at him feeling nervous. She wasn’t good with speaking to elders. In fact it made her feel so nervous that she couldn’t help but sweat like a pig.

“Where are you from?”

“Seoul.”

“Really? We live in Seoul as well,” the 40 year old man’s face curved up into that of a surprised, yet happy-to-hear-that expression. “Changmin grew up in Seoul with Yuri. Do you know Yuri?”

Nana nodded hoping that she didn’t look bored.

“I always thought those two kids would get married some day,” the old man nodded his head back at Changmin who was trying to convince his mother that he was alright. “But it doesn’t seem like that’ll be happening.”

Nana doubted it. Yuri and Changmin…were obviously holding themselves from stepping over a sacred boundary. Or maybe it was Yuri who was afraid, and Changmin was only reluctant to cross it for fear that he’d lose Yuri.

Those two…had feelings for the other. Then why was Nana doing what she was doing? Why was she playing this game to get Yuri together with Eunhyuk? Why was she hurting Yuri, her great benefactor? Why, then, was she starting to look at Changmin more and more?

Nana worried. She had no family. Even if she did like Changmin, there wasn’t anything she could rightfully offer him because he had everything she didn’t. Friends, families, and a lover…

She didn’t know what she was thinking anymore.

“Nana?” Changmin’s father called her again.

Nana snapped out of her daze.

“Yes?”

“I was wondering if you and Changmin are in any kind of relationship.”

The statement caused Nana’s brain to freeze. She lost her senses that moment.

A relationship? Did she have one with Changmin?

opened, but the door opened before the answer came out.

Yuri and Eunhyuk walked in.

“Yuri!” Changmin’s mother cried out loud.

Yuri smiled and greeted them. The way the two women hugged each other reminded Nana of a daughter in law and her mother in law, or a daughter who hasn’t seen her mother for quite a while. They looked…so happy and content.

Nana’s guts twisted.

“This is Eunhyuk,” Yuri introduced before glancing over. “I see you’ve already met Nana.”

Changmin’s father his hand out and Eunhyuk shook it gratefully.

“I brought dinner, are you hungry, Nana?” Yuri asked.

Someone who could cook well…yes, Nana, if she were a parent would want a daughter in law who could cook. Yuri had every attribute of the perfect daughter in law while Nana lacked in so many ways. All she could do was shoot guns, play games that emotionally wounded her, and act like an immature child.

“It’s alright,” Nana shook her head with a smile, “I’m not hungry.”

“But you didn’t eat all day,” Changmin said from where he lay.

Nana quietly cursed him from inside her brain. That was when she noticed that all eyes were on her. Her back trickled with sweat and her head suddenly began throbbing very intensely.

“I’ll get something to eat later,” Nana excused, “I’m feeling kind of tired so I’m going to go.”

Yuri seemed to open to protest but didn’t.

“Have a safe trip home,” Changmin’s father kindly bid his farewell.

“Nana,” Changmin called.

She turned to look at him suddenly feeling very disturbed.

“I’ll see you tomorrow,” was all that came from Nana before starting toward the door.

/ / / / /

Victoria ran her fingers through Donghae’s hair as he lie on her lap, legs propped up on the arm rest of the couch. They were quiet. Dinner had gone by silently and Donghae had helped her wash dishes before they retreated into the living room. Silent thoughts raced by before she turned her eyes away from the blank TV screen.

The home was so quiet.

There would be at least a person talking. The absence of Changmin, Yuri, Nana, and Eunhyuk only brought a lonely silence that stilled the world within the household. She couldn’t have imagined that such a beautiful house was now entrapped in a rock solid quietness.

“When was Eunhyuk last in a relationship?” Victoria asked.

“Probably somewhere in college,” Donghae replied digging his head into her abdomen. “He had a few girlfriends, none who I really know of.”

“Why? Was he really secretive about it?”

“No.” Donghae shook his head. “There was this one girl he especially liked, he was like her shadow though. After that much devotion he just focused on clubbing.”

“You mean you guys,” Victoria corrected.

“I did not.” he denied.

“Sure,” Victoria mused before returning to the topic. “So no more relationships from there on?”

“Nope,” Donghae said. “Why?”

“Didn’t you say a while back that Eunhyuk intended to leave and go back home, but he stayed?” Victoria questioned.

Donghae nodded grabbing her hand and playing with her fingers.

“He tell you why he stayed?”

“Nope.”

“I’m thinking maybe he has a ‘thing’ for Nana.”

Donghae shot up from where he was lying so that he was now sitting beside her.

“What?” the immense surprise lit on his face made Victoria want to laugh.

“He asked about her a few times, he’s being discreet about it,” Victoria explained. “Or maybe he’s confused and doesn’t realize it. He’s had many things running through his mind, hasn’t he?”

“But…Nana?” Donghae quirked both eyebrows.

“It isn’t surprising now that I think of it,” Victoria said glancing up at the ceiling, “he’s brought her outside a lot, maybe they’ve gotten close.”

“But they rarely talk to each other…” Donghae frowned.

Victoria shrugged, “It’s just my intuition. He dodges every question I ask that includes Nana. That’s my hint.”

“He likes her?” Donghae asked.

“That’s what I think.”

“Then what about Changmin?” Donghae went on. “I thought Nana was getting along fairly well with that guy.”

“And Eunhyuk and Yuri,” Victoria added with a tune to her voice as if she were singing some sort of song.

“Eunhyuk and Yuri?” Donghae repeated looking even more confused.

Victoria could tell that he’d never pondered over such thoughts before. Well, she guessed she shouldn’t be surprised. Since Donghae was a detective and only believed what he saw, not what he hears.

“What about Yuri?” Victoria asked. “I thought you were talking to her today.”

“Oh…that,” Donghae’s tone dropped, “I don’t know, but when she mentioned Changmin she seemed kind of…um…sad and disappointed. She said something along the line of Changmin is in love with Nana.”

“In love?” Victoria said. “That’s new.”

“So what are you going to do?” Donghae wondered. “Since you seemed so into this square drama of theirs.”

“I only think it’s much more difficult than what we had to go through,” Victoria turned to him.

“Hmm…really…” Donghae smiled pressing his face into hers.

“Except there’s no one who’s obsessive,” Victoria pointed out, “they all seem pretty mature in my point of view.”

“Maybe Eunhyuk will get emotionally wounded,” Donghae mischievously whispered into her face after placing a kiss on the skin beneath her eye. “I’d like to see him torn for once.”

“You’re evil.” Victoria placed a peck on the tip of his nose.

“Don’t tease me,” he warned nipping the side of her cheek.

She chuckled, her breath flying against his heated skin.

His warm hand dug its way to her abdomen.

“So, when will my son start growing?” he questioned.

“A few more weeks, perhaps,” Victoria replied kissing him on the lips.

Cupping her face into his hands he returned a hungry kiss.

“Gosh, I love kissing you. I don’t think I’ll get tired of it.”

“Me too,” she agreed wrapping both arms around his neck.

***And lovey dovey HaeToria :D
