Chapter 50

You Said Remember Me II

/ / / / /

Nana eyed Eunhyuk from the corner of her eyes after they stepped out of the cab. Joining the crowd among the street she wondered where exactly he was planning to go.

“How’d you get hurt?” he asked without looking at her.

“What?”

“Your arm.”

“It’s nothing big,” Nana tried to cut the topic short. “Was just…clumsy.”

“You look guilty,” he pointed out.

Nana turned to look at him before looking away. Speeding up she lingered closer toward the intersection. Someone brushed by slightly shoving her. Nana stopped in her tracks and turned around to look at the culprit who was currently dashing down the sidewalk. Seriously, why was she always getting shoved around? When she turned around to continue walking she felt someone grasp onto her arm. Turning around she wasn’t surprise with who she saw.

Leo stuck his tongue out at her. He smiled mischievously before waving and running off. Feeling her blood boil especially from the other day she made a run after him.

“Whoa! Hey!” someone among the crowd shouted.

“Bastard, just wait till I get my hands on you,” Nana mumbled underneath her breath.

However, when she turned around the corner she bumped into someone and almost collided back.

“Ow!” she moaned before pushing her hair away and looking up at him.

Her lips fell apart when she saw who was standing in front of her.

“I’m not after you today,” he clarified, “Eunhyuk, he’s with you, isn’t he?”

Nana frowned.

“Yah! Nana!” Eunhyuk’s voice neared her.

“Eunhyuk?” she repeated the name.

“He’s that one, isn’t he?” the tall man questioned.

Nana spun around to see Eunhyuk coming toward her. Spinning back around she stared back up at the man confused and lost. How did they know of Eunhyuk? And for what reason were they after Eunhyuk? She thought the gang only had business with her, Donghae, and Victoria.

Turning around she ran toward Eunhyuk and felt him grab her arm when they reached each other.

“What was that? Are you crazy? Are you trying to cause more trouble?” he scolded.

“What did you do? What did you do!” Nana raised her voice.

Eunhyuk stared back at her surprised. Nana turned back around to see Eui Tae starting toward them.

“We need to get out of here,” Nana turned down her left, but came to a forceful pause when Eunhyuk grabbed her hand.

“You can’t run down that area, there’s no where to hide over there,” he explained as they ran across the street.

Deciding to follow his lead Nana withheld herself from arguing with him. Isn’t wasn’t long before they ran pass a shopping mall and she wasn’t sure what Eunhyuk had in mind when he entered it. Running up the escalator apologizing to this person and that person for pushing their way through they finally fled down the hallway. Nana turned around to see that Eui Tae and Leo had really followed them in. She couldn’t help but allow a snort to escape her.

Stopping around the corner Nana pulled Eunhyuk down the opposite hallway. Somewhere around the 3rd floor Eunhyuk pulled her down another hallway. Spotting a full length door to a fitting room he pulled her toward it. Once inside he shut the door and locked it with a click.

Panting and fighting to catch her breath she felt their foreheads bump into each other when Eunhyuk turned his head. Nana tried to move back but found herself shrinking back into the wall.

It didn’t help much.

The fitting room was meant for one person but the both of them were in there. Nana could hear her own heart anxiously pound against her rib cage and glanced everywhere else trying to avoid looking directly at him. She pressed her lips together and gulped.

That was when she recalled that their hands were entwined. She released her hold on his hand and tried to pull her hand out of his but either she wasn’t doing it correctly, or Eunhyuk wasn’t letting go. But she couldn’t imagine that the second option would be the reason for it.

What was wrong with him? Feeling uncomfortable and stuffy she decided to let herself take a small glance at him. When she did she felt their eyes lock. The room temperature rose quickly and Nana wasn’t sure if her face was flushing red or not. Nervously, she clenched her free hand into a bound fist and wondered if she was hallucinating when his breath started moving close and closer to her.

Seriously, Nana thought she was going to explode. She couldn’t help but wonder why Eunhyuk seemed so calm at that moment. His eyelashes were much longer than she’d thought them to be. Nana immediately in her breath and held it when their noses slightly brushed.

What in the world was going on? What was she doing there? In a fitting room!

The door flung open and both of them turned to see an employee poke her head in. Nana turned away embarrassed and finally pulled her hand free.

After apologizing for the thousandth time she finally started toward the escalators and headed toward the first floor. For now she had nothing to say, but started wondering why everyone was trying to bring her shame and more shame. She was sick from embarrassment and couldn’t stand the voice at the back of her head anymore.

Changmin sat down on the platform and handed Lucy the seal her treat.

“Good girl,” he cooed reaching a hand forward to her fur before she quickly swam off.

He couldn’t imagine how Yuri was feeling, but he knew for sure that he wasn’t feeling very great after all. Changmin was a little depressed, honestly. Saying he didn’t know why would be the greatest lie of all. However, he needed put on a good front so as not to let Nana get in trouble.

He wondered how Nana was faring. She just might possibly be able to cheer him up a little when he went back home.

Once they left the mall, Eunhyuk stopped by a random place to order some take out. Nana waited silently by the window at the front door and when he placed his order he turned around. Walking back toward he went to stand at the opposite end of the window. She glanced at him before turning to face the front.

“Did you lie a lot in your childhood?” Eunhyuk asked.

Nana turned to look at him.

“Lying, it’s something that comes out naturally, yet it’s also something scary,” Eunhyuk seemed to be talking to himself. “Helping someone put up a lie isn’t really helping them or yourself.”

She pressed her lips together firmly.

“Don’t be a fool,” Eunhyuk advised, “I can see that Shim Changmin didn’t mean what he said last night.”

“Aren’t you being a fool too?” Nana shot back the question.

Eunhyuk quieted.

“You can’t even face yourself honestly, and you’re telling me not to lie,” Nana pointed out, “don’t bluff yourself.”

Eunhyuk’s brows deepened.

“I know,” Nana nodded, “we all have our own side of the story. I don’t know yours, and you don’t know mine. Neither you or me have the right to talk about anything.”

“What?” he asked.

“Your take out’s ready!”

Eunhyuk turned away and went to collect the food. When he turned around Nana was no where in sight. Hurrying out the door he spotted her standing by the intersection staring beyond the road.

Walking up to her he took her arm, “Come with me.”

They walked far and finally stopped by a remote park somewhere along the way. Even he wasn’t sure where they were but there were questions bursting inside him.

“Why?” she started turning to him a small glare. “Are you highly offended by what I said? Why? Because I’m right?”

“Yah!” he turned to look at her.

Nana pressed her lips together and waited for him to go on.

“You don’t know anything,” Eunhyuk muttered.

“About what?” Nana asked mildly. “About your friendship with Lee Donghae’s wife? That you’re wavering? That you’re perhaps hiding something even you, yourself, cannot face?”

He stared back at her hard suddenly filled with fury.

“Ok, lets pretend I didn’t say anything,” Nana said, “but you know, along the way somewhere, one of you will fall in love with the other. Maybe temporarily, maybe at the wrong time, or maybe when it’s too late.”

“Or perhaps never,” he looked away before shooting his eyes back at her. “I think, a lot of you are overlooking it.”

“Ok,” Nana turned to look at Eunhyuk who was still turned away, “then lets pretend we never had this conversation. But what did you do to them? Why are they suddenly after you?”

“Tsh…like I would know?” Eunhyuk snorted.

He turned back to look at her.

“You’re…a very strange person,” Nana commented. “Sometimes you seem so cold, yet despite that you turn out to be a not so bad person. You’re amusing.”

To hear those words coming from a much younger person surprised him to no end.

Nana turned away from him and started down the way they’d come. He opened his mouth as if to say something, but pressed his lips together and followed her. They were quiet for a long time, their feet in step with the other. Eunhyuk loosened his hold on the bag of food he was carrying and tightened his hold on it.

“Lets ride a taxi back,” he suggested, “I don’t want to run again if we get spotted.”

Even in the taxi neither of them spoke. He turned to look at Nana who seemed to be staring out the window.

“That day…” he began.

Nana swiveled her head around to look at him.

“You said…you heard everything?”

Without a word she turned back to look out the window. Maybe he really was a fool as she’d said.

The knock at the door brought Yuri back to reality.

“Yes?” she called out quickly shuffling the paper on her desk to make it look like she’d been working hard the past hour.

“Sherriff Kwon,” an officer walked in, “these are some snapshots we took from the CCTV around in the area.”

He handed her the photographs.

“We’ve requested for the videos, but there was only one in the area,” he explained, “so they told us it wouldn’t matter no matter how many times we tried to look it over. As you see it was the CCTV was only directed at a specific angle so we couldn’t get much out of it.”

“Ok,” Yuri nodded, “thanks.”

The officer nodded before backing out of the room. Once the door closed Yuri ran a hand through her hair. She didn’t want to deal with any cases right now. She only wanted to finish her own personal case before finally returning to work. Yuri had had no idea that Changmin could be so stressing. Who knew he was such a big factor in her life?

Heaving an awfully deep sigh she finally picked up the photos and glanced at them. Suddenly sitting up in her desk she felt her eyes widen with a deep, dark frown. She couldn’t see much of their faces because of the blurriness from the picture, but she could pick out their backs. Had they really been on site? Why?

Grabbing her bag she shot up from behind the desk. If she didn’t get a good explanation, Nana and Eunhyuk might really get dragged into a messy situation. Yuri wasn’t prepared to fight off her colleagues as her reputation with them wasn’t so well off during the moment.

“Donghae, don’t you think that sometimes we should have our own personal space?” Victoria asked.

“No.”

“Oh really…come on.”

“No,” he persisted, “and besides it’s dangerous in Osan. I can’t allow you to step out. They’re ready to jump on us at any time, don’t you know that? I like you being a good girl like this, so lets just watch this cartoon show.”

Victoria was so ready to choke him and walk out.

Biting back her tongue she asked, “I wonder where Eunhyuk and Nana went. They’ve been gone for so long.”

“They probably got lost,” Donghae replied, “you know Eunhyuk.”

“Donghae,” Victoria started, “shouldn’t you also be trying to make sure Nana’s comfortable around here? From the looks of it, I think she feels lost in the crowd.”

“Nana, she’s just like that,” Donghae explained, “a little stubborn, so she won’t open up easily. But doesn’t she look like she’s getting along well with Changmin?”

“That’s what you think,” Victoria muttered, “you don’t even try to look beyond what you see. That’s just exactly like you.”

“Why! Are you saying I’m a bad person?”

“Yes.”

“You should try to be more attentive,” Victoria pointed out, “I’m a person too, I can manage to look after myself, yet you’re making it look like I’m someone who can’t do anything for herself. I’m not useless, Donghae. Don’t make another mistake like you did by not letting me know about Ren Gei.”

“You’re pregnant, Victoria,” Donghae shifted from his seat so he could face her, “I’m not going to allow anything to happen to you.”

“Yet, I can still fare for myself,” Victoria tried to get the point through his head.

“I don’t want you to,” Donghae refused, “you’ve done enough by yourself. You’re always fighting everything by yourself.”

“No, I do not,” Victoria retorted, “we do it together, too, but you can’t seem to see it.”

Donghae was ready to argue back but the door opened and Yuri rushed in. They both turned surprised by her sudden entrance.

“Where’s Eunhyuk and Nana?” Yuri questioned.

“They stepped out a moment ago,” Victoria replied.

“Is something going on?” Donghae wondered. “Why are you looking for them?”

“I need to talk to them,” Yuri closed the door after her. “When will they be back?”

“But what exactly happened?” Donghae pressed on.

Yuri was silent and pressed her lips together before saying, “A man was recently murdered. The CCTV caught Eunhyuk and Nana on site.”
