Chapter 63. Lock and Key

Hyeonji laughed after her sister-in-law recounted how she talked to Yonghwa and Seohyun’s house helper about the two’s ‘capades’. She had thought about it as well. If any capade was really happening, then it was a good thing. It was likely that they have proceeded into the next phase of their relationship.

Although she thought that Seohyun was a hard nut to crack, her nephew had probably have enough experience cracking any kinds of nut. She chuckled at her own thought until Eunsuk mentioned that so far Mrs. Kim hadn’t caught them in the act of kissing or any other physical intimacies that would suggest that.

“I really think Seohyun just agreed to stay with him because of Euna but she hasn’t given him that chance to be her boyfriend again,” Eunsuk said thoughtfully.

Hyeonji nodded still not giving her any verbal responses. She lifted her cup on her lips and took a small sip of her tea. It was part of their narrative that the two would try to work out their relationship for the baby’s sake but Seohyun would still decide if she wanted to be with him for good.

“Just like what your husband said, we should give them time,” she finally replied when the younger woman appeared to be waiting for a reply.

“What if we reach out to her parents?”

The two turned and saw Sunggwang standing by the doorway obviously listening quietly to their conversation. Eunsuk suddenly looked at Hyeonji with worried eyes because they had been keeping something very significant from him.

Hyeonji smiled at her silently saying that she was handling it. Ushering her brother to take the empty seat across them, she waited until he was seated before speaking, “We are going to do that behind Yonghwa’s back?”

“He is not doing anything,” Sunggwang replied with an obvious bile on his tone.

She laughed softly at her brother then shook her head, “You see? That’s exactly the reason why your son does the opposite of what you expect from him.”

Sunggwang groaned in annoyance.

“Yeobo, Unnie is right,” Eunsuk spoke softly hoping her husband would listen to her, “If Yonghwa find out that we try to meddle again, he’s going to lose it.”

“Did he not do exactly what I told him of finding a woman before we do that for him?” He scoffed.

Hyeonji shook her head, “He had no choice that time. Yonghwa said it already, Seohyun didn’t want to take him back. She even lied about Euna not being his,” she could feel her nose growing but she knew the white lie should be kept drawn to these two. “We have two strong-willed couple in our hands. If we keep a tight rein on them, they might just both implode. Let them deal with their relationship on their own.”

Eunsuk nodded and sighed. Looking at her husband, she could tell that despite that heavy frown he was wearing, he was already agreeing to what his sister said. She softly added, “By the looks of it, they are really working on it really well right now.”

“Then what if you said came true?” Sunggwang argued again, “What if she gets pregnant again?”

“Seohyun is not stupid,” Eunsuk replied, “If Euna was an accident, do you think she’d do another one? Besides, it’s up to her.”

“What if your son is not asking to marry her?” He retorted again.

“Do you think she would stay this long with him?” She replied feeling the sudden irritation. Her husband had always been very critical of Yonghwa. “I think she just want to make sure.”

“Uh-huh,” Hyeonji added, “Don’t worry. I’ll keep an eye on them. Right now, let’s just wait and see. If another baby comes, then we should celebrate. And if that really happens, Yonghwa would really be stupid not to chain this woman to his side.”

“I’m so sorry…”

Seohyun chuckled hearing him sigh so loud after explaining, “You don’t have to apologize, Oppa.”

“I know,” he mumbled, “I know— it’s just that I have been going home late these days. I hardly see you and Euna.”

Her heart did a tiny somersault hearing that, “We miss you too. Euna has been looking towards the door, I think it’s already part of her routine to see you in the afternoon…”

“We only get to play in the morning… and in a very short time.”

“Don’t worry, Appa. It’s almost weekend,” Seohyun giggled when he only groaned in frustration since weekend was still two days away. Then she frowned to herself once she remembered, “Unless you have to work?”

“No… no…” Yonghwa sighed, “Maybe we should let Ajumma come this Saturday so you don’t have to do anything else but focus on me…”

Seohyun laughed noticing that he was probably wearing a smirk when he said that. Then she bit her lip before replying, “Hmm… how do you want me to focus on you?”

A low growl came before he replied, “It’s for you to figure out…”

“Fine,” she spoke almost breathily recalling the way she felt when his hands where on her. A tiny whimper stole her attention that she looked over her shoulder and saw her baby stirring and opening her eyes slowly, “Oppa, I have to go, Euna is up…”

“Okay, lock up and don’t wait up for me. I’ll try to be home earlier.”

“Don’t worry,” she responded as she walked closer to the playpen making sure that her baby would see her so she wouldn’t cry, “Yuri Unnie is coming here after work.”

“That’s good to know… kiss Euna for me.”

“Will do,” Seohyun smiled when her baby grinned groggily at her then she chirped to keep her baby in a good mood as she ended the call, “Hanging up now… see you later Euna’s Appa…”

“Ne…”

It was true— he was hardly home and she knew that it was normal since Aunt Hyeonji told her this before. His aunt also pointed out that it was only lately that Yonghwa had been spending time at home, he was mostly out with his friends or clubbing after office hours and especially on the weekends. Although it made her happy to know this, Seohyun thought that in the end he had to go back to his old routine.

It would be better for all of them.

And no, she didn’t think that he was only making an excuse to be away from them. It was pretty obvious that he would have done everything to be home but he also had other responsibilities. She smile— if only his father would realize this, he would know how responsible Yonghwa is.

It was a nice thought that probably, just probably, she and Euna had been a way for his inner goodness to shine through. This setup really did change both of them and she hoped that if the worst happened— she could only hope that he would be better than he was before they found each other. Seohyun only distracted herself away from these thoughts when she felt the tears falling and her little curious one stared at her seriously.

She shook her head and kissed her baby’s forehead, “I’m not crying, Euna. Something got stuck in my eyes.” It was a lie that she told mainly herself and not her baby because her little one just looked away unaware of her umma’s pain.

By late afternoon, Yuri arrived with a rented baby walker for Euna. “This is very practical,” she said as she kissed the baby’s cheek who was currently looking seriously at the walker.
