Chapter 9. Meetings

Euna was sleeping so deeply that she hardly moved when she wrapped another layer of blanket around her little body. How in the world would Seohyun slip out of the hospital without being noticed? Perhaps that was really an outrageous judgement that she shouldn’t have considered anyway. But she was determined to end that charade before it even started.

It was almost lunch time and it was indeed the perfect time for her to execute her plan since the hospital would be busier. She ed the hospital gown and put on a dress from the baby bag and looked back at her daughter. One major problem would be walking especially with a baby and a bag.

The moment Aunt Hyeon Ji left her; she made her plan and decided to do it right away. She stood and walked carefully by the door as blood seemed to drain from her system with so much nervousness. Seohyun understood that it would be so much stress on her body but she would never feel at ease as long as she was still in that place waiting for things to roll as planned.

“I’m sorry… I could not keep my promise,” she whispered as she looked at the bed again and gently opened the door. When she was sure that she wouldn’t be noticed by anybody, she took Euna and the bag on her other hand.

The door remained silent until she closed it behind and smiled for that minor trial she successfully surpassed. A sigh of relief escaped her before turning around to walk.

“Where are you taking my daughter?”

That voice literally made her jump out of her wits and Seohyun slowly raised her head to look at the owner of that voice. How did he find out?  She couldn’t see his face that made her even more afraid. Was it him? She couldn’t even tell. That moment her heart ached with anger and fear on what he was capable of doing.

“You don’t have a daughter here…”

The calm voice echoed through the hallway as another man walked closer to them and dragged her to his side. Seohyun looked up and recognized the very same eyes who watched her in pain moments ago.

“Leave my wife and my daughter alone…”

“What?” The other man sneered and reached out for them.

“NO!!!!!!!!!!!”

She heard herself cry out loud and consciousness crept into her. Shivering, she gently sat up and reached out for the glass of water by her bedside.

It was just a dream but it felt so real— so powerful.

Seohyun had been really thinking of running away that she even brought that thought to her sleep. It felt so real but she could not make out how the other man looked. Her eyes wandered around the room and breathed deeply with gratitude that it was all part of her subconscious. Maybe she should reconsider—again.

She could not tell how long she fell asleep and the tiredness never seemed to wear off and was even heightened by that kind of dream so Seohyun remained motionless on the bed. It was the most eventful day on her life— next to her knowledge of being pregnant. After Aunt Hyeon Ji left, she weighed her options well and although a fine life was really tempting, she finally decided for a graceful exit to the agreement she just made. It was the best decision since she could not get her conscience to agree with the set up. She should really rest well and store more energy to stage her plan of running away with Euna when darkness comes.

It was maybe a way for her to plan more than be so impulsive. Although, the woman assured her that she would be better with them and treat her well, she knew that they were still strangers and whatever she was getting into was still a blurry picture for her. She remembered Euna and counted the hours she was to see her again—it should be by now.

The door screeched open but when she opened her eyes, she caught sight of the man. Her heart beat louder remembering her dream.  

“Leave my wife and my daughter alone…”

Even in her dreams this man was still protecting them. But she had to close her eyes and pretend she was asleep. She was still not very comfortable with his presence and to be with him all alone in this room was even more awkward. The best thing to do was to pretend.

The way her heart drummed in her chest as he got closer was absolutely strange. Seohyun had always been confident and people rarely faze her, but this man was a whole different story. Suddenly, she felt this weight on both sides of the bed as the pillow shrank by the abrupt load. A warm air seemed to blow through her nostrils. She finally realized that he was hovering on top of her.

“Why do you have to agree? You could have said ‘no thanks.’”

Her heart leaped but she was able to control herself from giving away her conscious state. He would leave soon, she convinced herself.

“Who are you?”

The faint smell of the alcohol irritated her senses that she was on the verge of pushing him away. One wrong move from him and she would surely scream with all her remaining energy.

“Do you know what you’re getting into? Gold-digger, I can smell you from afar…”

This jerk!!!

Her mind reacted but she kept her cool, she shouldn’t deal with him being obviously drunk and all. But one more wrong word and he would surely get what he wanted. This man was really something. She almost convinced herself that he was bipolar

“What are you doing in my life?”
