53. Little Miracles

The rest of the weekend happened and Seohyun thought of giving him something in return for really trying to take care of Euna. And despite having second thoughts about it, Seohyun just decided to just do the very first thing that came to mind.

That was why she was standing outside his office building in the middle of the lunch break hour where so many people rushed around her. Seohyun put the phone closer to her ear as she moved to a shaded corner just as he answered her call, “Hello, oppa?”

“Oh, Seohyun…”

“Are you busy?”

“Just about done with a meeting. What’s the matter?” He stopped for a moment until he continued before she could talk, “Where are you?”

Seohyun smiled realizing that he must have heard the noise around her, “Outside your building, Oppa. Are you okay to have lunch with me? Sorry, I didn’t tell you earlier.”

“No, it’s okay. I’ll be there…” He replied and she could hear that he was close to the elevator, “Get inside the lobby at least, I’ll be there in… ten.”

“Okay. See you…” Seohyun ended the call and did as told. She realized that she was getting greedy, that she was indeed doing everything she could to be with him. Her unnie told her that there was a possibility that he might fall in love with her— he even might be already in love with her. But Seohyun couldn’t hang on to those thoughts because she knew the consequences. She allowed herself to fall in love with him and love him without reservations.

And slowly, slowly, she would give the rest to him.

Seohyun caught sight of him as he got out of the elevator. He was on the phone but his eyes wandered around and smiled once he found her. Her heart jumped because of that smile and she had to scold herself for feeling this way.

She realized that she really never fell in love like this before.

“Hi…” Yonghwa’s smile remained or it even widened and he touched her by the elbow to guide her out of the building.

“Hi…” she chuckled as they started walking out but she slightly shivered once his hand slipped at the small of her back. She liked it— walking that way where people could see them, it felt like she belonged to him, and he to her. That was a sweet thought that she easily smiled and when she looked over to him, he too had that small smile.

Their walk to the restaurant was short since the lunch rush actually pushed them to move faster like everybody else. Once they were seated, Yonghwa didn’t let her off the hook and reminded her that she was still to tell him about the promise she made to Jonghyun. Seohyun laughed and waved a hand dismissively as she spoke, “That’s part of the promise I made.”

“Not telling me?” He frowned.

Biting her lower lip, she nodded but replied softly, “It’s nothing, really. You know me, I would tell you if it’s something you should know…”

That only prompted him to look even more suspicious. But when she gave him a look that silently begged him to just let it go, Yonghwa exhaled rather deeply and nodded. He smiled when she mouthed a thank-you and asked instead, “Why are we suddenly eating out again? Any occasion that I may have forgotten?”

She chuckled, “Nothing, but if there is, I’m curious of your guess…”

“Hmm… let’s see,” he eyed her playfully then drawled, “That I’m going to be an appa… again?”

Seohyun laughed thinking to herself that it was a typical Yonghwa-answer, but instead of saying that, she responded, “If looks can get me pregnant?”

Yonghwa grinned at her, “If… but since it can’t, there are so many ways I can do exactly that. More ways than one.”

“I bet you could,” she said flatly and decided not to indulge him further by shaking her head and replying, “I just thought of buying you lunch for what you did last Saturday.”

Chuckling again, he nodded with confirmation, “So this is a reward.”

“Sort of,” Seohyun nodded then smirked at him, “I hope the next time we do this would be for dinner.”

He laughed while she smiled knowingly at him, “That was supposed to be my line, Seohyun-ssi.”

She shrugged, “You stopped asking.”

“I’m still wounded, you know?”

Seohyun only rolled her eyes, then answered almost patronizingly, “Fine, I’ll wait until you’re all healed, Yonghwa-ssi.”

Even though their food came and they started eating, their playful banter continued until Yonghwa received a call. The smile he had been wearing suddenly faded as he listened to the other end of the line until he groaned, “What? Since last Saturday? Why am I just told about this?” He sighed, “Okay, hyung. We will go there now. Yeah, she’s with me having lunch. Okay, thanks for telling me…”

“What happened?” Seohyun asked just as he put the phone on the table and took a big gulp of water.

“Gomo is in the hospital.”

“What happened? How is she?”

“Her heart…” Yonghwa took a deep breath before continuing, “She stayed at the hospital for three days. But they’re about to leave now. They’re taking her to my parents’ house.”

“Can we go see her?”

“Yeah.”

“Should we take Euna? Aunt Hyeonji and your parents will be happy if we bring her along,” Yonghwa nodded so she took one last sip from her glass and pushed her half-eaten food, “Can we go now?”

Yonghwa found himself chuckling, “Hey, hey… finish your food first.” Reaching out, he took her hand and gave her a small squeeze, “Don’t worry okay? Hyung said it wasn’t that serious. Besides, we still have time.”

With that, she took a deep sigh and nodded, “I’m sorry… I just want to see her…”

“I know,” he smiled, “I do too, but right now, let’s finish our food…”

On their way to the lake house, she called Mrs. Kim and asked her to get Euna ready. After the call, Seohyun hesitated for a moment before finally speaking, “Uhm, can we sleep over?”

“What?” He gave her a small glance but his tone was rather disapproving.

“I think it would make your aunt feel a lot better if Euna is around. Plus, it would definitely make your parents happy,” she shouldn’t have added that since the frown got a little deeper. Thus, Seohyun decided to put in a little charm as she spoke, “Please, oppa? At least do it for Euna? For me?”

Yonghwa sighed, “It’s just Monday.”

“I know…” she started crossing her fingers on her lap, “You only have to sleep there tonight, have dinner probably, then breakfast. That’s it.”

“They will surely insist on making it a little longer than a day,” he retorted rather pointedly.

“I promise we will only stay for a day. You can pick us up tomorrow after work.”

After a few seconds of consideration, he nodded listlessly.

Seohyun grinned, “Yay! You’re really the best, oppa.”

“I know I am,” he muttered.

When they got to the lake house, Euna was in the middle of her afternoon nap
