Chapter 132. Best Days

She yawned for the second time but she was still fighting the sleep that was crawling in her bones. The laundry that piled up from the weekend was still waiting for her attention and this would be the perfect time since her baby was in the middle of her nap.

Shifting to her side, she smiled watching Euna sleep. She was a handful this morning. Aside from her tailing her around, the little girl only wanted her to focus on her— play with her. Mostly, it was because Euna was sleepy and so when she started getting cranky, Seohyun just hugged her tight despite her protest.

And once she succumbed to sleep, Seohyun laid down beside her telling herself that she would only take a few minutes just to make sure that she wouldn’t wake up and look for her. But her own exhaustion and the lull of sleep got the best of her so she stayed a little bit longer. Sighing, she was about to rise when her phone vibrated and she knew it was the one she was waiting for.

“Hi, Appa…” she greeted softly still fighting off sleep.

“Hi, Umma… I just got your message.”

“You did?” She smiled shifting the phone to her side where their baby laid, “She’s napping right now.”

She couldn’t really see his reaction but she knew he was smiling. “Why are you home, by the way?”

“Ajumma can’t make it today,” she replied watching their baby sigh in her sleep.

“Do you want me to go home for lunch?”

She couldn’t help but smile thinking that he’s always looking for an excuse to be with them, “Only if you’re not too busy.” Turning the screen to her, Seohyun added, “I must warn you though, I’m only having the leftovers from the weekend.”

“I don’t mind, I’ll bring something too,” he replied with a short laugh.

“I thought you’re buying us lunch?”

The voice in the background made her raise a brow for a second but she didn’t react and just listened when Yonghwa answered her, “I’ll buy you lunch but I have to ditch you guys for her.”

That reply totally made Seohyun smile proudly to herself, although managing to catch a glimpse of the woman who owned that voice. “Who’s that?” She asked when his attention was back to her once more. Her brow raised once more when he didn’t answer and just left the group and moved to a quieter place. It made her wonder why he did that but she just waited until he spoke.

“Ahh, our new legal aide,” he replied almost carefully.

“Hmmm…” she mumbled curiously wondering why he had to answer that in private. But then, something made sense somehow so she asked, “I thought you’re using your family’s firm as your legal team.”

“We decided to build our own team since the job are piling up. But she’s a loan from the firm actually, a good family friend—” he stopped midsentence.

“A family friend huh?” She managed to say that out loud before shaking her thoughts off and grinning instead, “Anyway, Appa, I want fried chicken for lunch.”

“Alright, babe…” he replied with much enthusiasm this time, “Fried chicken it is!”

“How was your morning?” She crooned, shifting to her side while staring at him.

“I just got off the conference room,” Yonghwa replied lounging on his seat as well, “I need to check some plans and sign documents. That wouldn’t really take long so I can drop by sooner.”

Seohyun smiled, “Busy, huh? You don’t need to rush home, okay?”

“I don’t?” He faked a surprised look, “What if I really want to see you though?”

“That’s another matter then,” she answered with a small laugh. It took her a few minutes of convincing that he should go back to work and only when she mentioned that the sooner he could start, the faster he could go home. “Aigoo, he is like a little boy,” she murmured to herself with a smile after their call ended.

Seohyun was mostly done with lunch and was focusing on the baby food when the door alarm sounded. For a moment, she wondered if it would awaken the baby so she listened for a bit until Yonghwa appeared in the room carrying a box of take-out.

“That was fast,” she said with a grin.

“You won’t be saying that anytime soon,” he winked knowingly biting his lower lip in the process that she only chuckled shaking her head. Dropping his jacket on the chair and the bag of fried chicken on the table, Yonghwa moved behind the kitchen counter towards her. She laughed softly by the way he was looking at her especially when he pulled her to face him. His eyes travelled down her body with that smirk permanently pasted on his face, “Did you wear this for me?”

She fought the urge to smile and brought her eyes down the floral wrap-around dress she was wearing. Capturing his hand when he was about to touch the strings, she pretended to look oblivious of his meanings, “This? I just grabbed whatever was on top in my dresser.”

Yonghwa laughed then pulled her up on her feet and setting her down on the counter, “You’re amazing.”

“I know I am,” she finally smiled while putting her arms around his shoulders— and smiled some more as they kissed. He must have assumed that the baby was still asleep that he bravely fished for the strings once more. She moaned feeling his hand angling for something else but as they kissed, and touched, an ominous sound started to break the other noises in the room.

“Hmmm…” Yonghwa finally broke the kiss and grinned when she gave him a quiet nod, “I thought she’s sleeping. Did she sleep in her walker?”

She only giggled at the thought of it but shifted his eyes towards the hallway, “Watch…”

He raised a brow at her but followed that gaze, “Huh?”

“Wait for it…” she said with a giggle pushing his cheek back to the direction when he was about to look at her.

And just as Seohyun predicted, the empty walker suddenly appeared from the hallway followed by a faint whimpering sound. Yonghwa chuckled finally seeing their baby trying to push her walker as she crawled on all fours.

“Hmmm… maaahhh…” Euna sobbed as she made her way closer to them, “Ahhmmmmaaahhh…”
