Chapter 105. Always By Your Side

The week passed them by so quickly Yonghwa felt like he was chasing the days away. He got back in the groove of work and he could tell that their vacation did him good. Despite the initial shock of that Euna revelation, he knew that he was even more reinvigorated to work. There was even more realization that he had— he could actually leave this fact from Seohyun since she said it herself that, for her, he will always be Euna’s father.

That their baby, and even her own, should owe her life to him.

He was still unsure how she would react to it when the time comes that he wouldn’t have a choice but to tell her what he found out—especially how he got that information.

For now, he didn’t want to lose what they have, this easy relationship that gets even sweeter as days passed by.

And their little girl was the icing on the cake.

She had been bursting with energy now. Her expressions and reactions to everything were something he would miss so much whenever he would be at work. When they brought her to her doctor for her monthly check up, they were told that Euna would be speaking long before she would learn to walk. And they could tell that this early. With her rather sassy personality, it was easy to get her to mimic sounds and she would respond to words she constantly hear like milk, snack and even bath.

It would be the highlight of his day at the office when he would call Seohyun in the middle of the day and have their baby ‘talk’ to him. She would get excited seeing him on her umma’s phone screen that he thought she was happier that way than seeing him in person. Unlike her, the best part of his day would be coming home to them so it upset him a little when he would arrive later and missed seeing his baby awake and most especially playing with her.

Although whenever Euna would be asleep, he would find time spending with Seohyun— and he loved every minute of it.

Whether they would be talking or more.

When Friday came, he decided to spend a little more time at work just to appease his friend who had been complaining that he had verged into that path towards monogamy and he had been doing it too much. They had a few drinks afterwards with some of the foremen but Yonghwa decided to limit his intake remembering just a few nights ago when he had too much.

And Seohyun wouldn’t let him forget that either.

She gave him a slight nudge with a warning that he would be spending the night out in his unfinished gazebo if he would come home that drunk. If only she knew the reason behind it, Yonghwa knew she wouldn’t give him a hard time over that. So he just let it slide; besides, Seohyun seemed to be too tensed with her upcoming meeting with her brother. He, too, was having this mixed feeling of excitement and anxiety. The approval of her brother is important for him especially since he knew how close she is with him. He was also being reminded that she could easily be persuaded that she no longer need him to take care of her and Euna.

Her brother could easily take them both away.

Take the life he knows now away.

More anxiousness sank in.

He sighed. Now, he was probably as tensed as Seohyun about the meeting.

Good thing they had Euna to distract them somehow.

He smiled when he found them in the bedroom. While Seohyun looked up to him with a welcoming smile, their baby who was seated on her lap barely paid him any attention and only grumbled when her umma stopped reading for a second when he walked in. Yonghwa chuckled, loosening his tie and lying down on their makeshift bed on the bedroom floor just a few inches from Seohyun’s stretched legs. She was reading their daughter’s fairytale story while she occasionally hummed softly.

Yonghwa just listened to their quiet voices, glad that he was home now and he could stretch after a long day of walking around the construction sites and fixing problems that came on his desk. He couldn’t even remember how he spent nights like this before the two of them, he couldn’t even remember feeling so at peace in where he was— and happy.

“Is she asleep?”

He chuckled hearing Seohyun’s soft sing-sang voice as if she was still reading just in case her baby was still up. But he smiled looking at the baby, her chin was resting on her umma’s arm, lips posed in a pout, and eyes slowly blinking for a second until they closed tightly. He nodded gently raising and kissing the back of Euna’s hand.

“Finally,” Seohyun said with a sigh then carefully laid her on her spot and he too rose.

He yawned as he made his way to the adjacent room and grinned when Seohyun walked behind him and positioned herself on the couch at the end of the room. He ed his dress shirt while she watched, positioning herself sideways that her legs hang on one arm while her back rested on the other.

Yoghwa slipped off his shirt then unbuckled his belt as he asked, “How was today?”

She smiled stretching, “The same. Euna was nice to me today.”

It seemed that they both know that they were just making a small talk and this would lead to something they were both looking forward to all day. “What’s the plan tomorrow?” Inquiring again while pushing his pants down.
