Chapter 115. Finality

To distract herself while Euna met her appa, Seohyun went on a little shopping spree for the essentials she needed at their new ‘house’. Her brother forced her to accept the credit card he shoved her way and insisted that it would help her get by for a while before she starts getting her paycheck. She couldn’t really argue with that especially since they were moving later that afternoon. She just saw the fully-furnished accommodation Joowon bought for them as a ‘gift for Euna’ when she wouldn’t accept it at first.

She couldn’t help but notice how near it was to Yonghwa’s firm which was also a few minutes ride to their own law firm. Seohyun decided not to tell her brother about it because he might just take it the wrong way and thought that it was actually good for Euna that her appa could visit her as often as he could.

Just that thought was enough to veer her mind into thinking of him again.

The struggle to stop herself from going to them or even trying to catch a glimpse of Yonghwa and Euna together was a test to her whole being but she managed to stay away until she got the call from her brother. Her unnie didn’t seem tensed so she reckoned that her brother actually listened to her when she asked not to cause any trouble. She trusted that Yonghwa would also be calm especially for the baby and it was a relief to finally have her back. The moment she took Euna with her in the backseat of the car, she couldn’t stop herself from hugging her sleeping baby tight that she was awakened by it.

Euna started whimpering but when she opened her eyes and saw her, she smiled with her eyes still blinking heavily. “Did you have fun playing with Appa?” She kissed her baby’s cheek when she cooed back sleepily, “You did? Were you a good baby?” Seohyun continued talking to her baby but she was also paying attention at the couple in front of her. She smiled trying to tune in to their whispered conversations until she frowned when her unnie turned the conversation around.

“Look at them…”

Yuri grinned and her brother scoffed, “She looks like she hasn’t seen her in days.”

“He was doing the same thing,” her unnie mumbled back.

He looked over his shoulder for a second, “He was doing what?”

“Oh yeah,” Yuri sneered patting his shoulder gently, “You wouldn’t catch that.”

“Just tell me what…” her brother grumbled dismayed that his girlfriend was obviously teasing him.

“Smelling each other on the baby.”

“I don’t do that, Unnie!” Seohyun muttered and the two laughed making Euna squeal and sat up straighter so she complained, “There, you just woke the baby…”

“She was already awake,” Yuri pointed out amused for a second until her phone started ringing loudly that she answered fast when the baby cried suddenly, “Hello? Who’s this?”

“Shh… Euna,” Seohyun rubbed her baby’s back when she got startled by the sudden ringing, “It’s okay, it’s just Imo’s phone.”

“Ahh, yes. I’m sorry,” the other woman glanced at her briefly from the rearview mirror before dropping her eyes and talked, “I really can’t talk right now. Can I call you later? Oh, okay… thank you. I’m sorry again…”

“Who was that?” Her brother asked with that tight voice of his that Seohyun couldn’t help but smile.

“Work related.”

Yuri shrugged him off hurriedly that even Seohyun would find suspicious but it was not really her business so she just gave her unnie a small smile when she turned to them reaching out to touch Euna’s foot playfully. When they reached their new home, she just had a big sigh, surprised with herself that it was actually out of relief. She turned to her brother and gave him a huge smile, “Thank you, Oppa.”

They didn’t stay long with them and she was left with the sleeping baby in her new crib. There wasn’t really anything to do since they had little to unpack and straighten in the house. She was expecting Ajumma to come the next day and maybe the familiarity she would bring her daughter would cheer her up even for a bit. Her cheery baby seemed only to enjoy car rides and going out but being home made her cranky. Her phone rang and she rushed to retrieve it before it could wake her grumpy one, “Hello?”

“Seohyuna…”

A familiar voice came beckoning and she was actually anticipating this. After taking a deep breath, she answered softly, “Gomo, I’m sorry… I should have called…”

“Oh, no… no, no, my dear,” she replied with a chuckle, “If you have time and if it’s alright with you, I would like us to talk.”

“Yes, of course, Gomo. I would like to talk to you too. There are a lot of things that I don’t understand.”

She sat across the young woman who had tear-stained eyes. They were a bit puffy at the beginning but when she started talking the tears just flowed that what she was saying was getting blurry. “Okay, Seohyunie, drink up first,” she pushed a glass of water closer to her, “Then, tell me… slowly this time, okay?”

She nodded wiping her nose with the tissue then too another sip, “H-he said he was—is Euna’s biological father.” Saying that was another jab in her chest that she whimpered for a second before shaking her head willing herself not to cry harder, “I still don’t understand most of what he just said but he was so angry telling me that I planned everything— that my parents were behind everything.”
