Sanghyuk scowled at the ‘out of order’ sign hanging out the elevator. This was the last thing that he needed. Well, actually it wasn’t. the last thing he needed was a broken hearted Hakyeon, drunk off his and clinging to him for support. He had warned the elder about his now ex-boyfriend. He had known that guy was no good the second he met him, but Hakyeon had brushed off his concerns and gone out with the guy anyway.

Now here they were.

The guy had cheated on Hakyeon. Well, actually he’d been cheating on someone else with Hakyeon, but the finer details didn’t matter. They didn’t keep the guy’s girlfriend from slapping Hakyeon like he’d known. It didn’t keep her from calling Hakyeon all kinds of things before she realized that Hakyeon really didn’t have any idea that she existed. She had apologized and Hakyeon accepted, but the slap and names still happened.

Hakyeon was……..broken. Beyond broken really. He thought that he had something, something big, and to find out that it was fake……it was horrible. The guy even had the nerve to deny it right up to the point his girlfriend made her existence known. Then he’d tried to blame it all on Hakyeon, tried to save his relationship with the girl.

“Come on,” Sanghyuk sighed, changing his grip on Hakyeon slightly, “we’re gonna have to take the stairs.”

“Should have listened,” Hakyeon mumbled, “you were right. He’s trash.”

“I know,” Sanghyuk hummed, “but I wish I’d been wrong.”

“Should have listened,” Hakyeon slurred.

“You should have,” Sanghyuk nodded, “but what’s done is done. Now you need to focus on healing. After that……well, that’s up to you. Hopefully you’ll find someone new, someone who’ll love you like you deserve.”

“Should just date you,” Hakyeon said, “you wouldn’t hurt me, Hyukkie.”

“I wouldn’t,” Sanghyuk nodded, smiling sadly, “but we both know that you’ll never see me like that. I’m just the little kid from next door to you.”

A/N: I’d originally planned to go for a happier ending. Clearly that’s not what happened.
