Hongbin used to think that age was just a number, that it didn’t matter. As a child, he had no problems getting along with any of the kids on his street. It didn’t matter how old or young they were, he could make friends with anyone. Anyone who made a big deal about age differences was weird to him, like an alien or something.

And then he met Sanghyuk and the between them didn’t seem like nothing.

Sanghyuk had moved in next door when Hongbin was thirteen. Sanghyuk was this tall, handsome seventeen year old and Hongbin was instantly smitten. He went out of his way to see Sanghyuk, trying desperately to become the other’s friend. And it worked, he did become Sanghyuk’s friend. Unfortunately, that’s all he would ever be and his position as friend served as a constant reminder of that fact.

Because he was Sanghyuk’s friend, and a close one at that, he got to meet everyone that Sanghyuk dated. From his first boyfriend Jaehwan to his most recent one Wonsik, Hongbin got to meet them all. He got front row seats to finding out that Sanghyuk would only ever see him as a little brother. To Sanghyuk, he was a child and always would be. He would never be someone the other could see as a lover.

It broke Hongbin’s heart.
